Hey Ed001, have we shown any interest in Lascelles or Lejeune of Newcastle? You said Klopp wants 2 CBs by next summer of which I assume one will be VVD. Maybe one of the two Newcastle Cbs would be a good options for us considering they would be cheaper than the alternatives bandied about and from what I have seen of them, they seem disciplined enough to be effective in a high line.

{Ed001's Note - not recently in Lascelles, before he moved to Newcastle we were interested, but not since. As for Lejeune, he was being watched by a lot of clubs, we certainly looked at him, but it was Arsenal (if I remember rightly) that Newcastle beat to his signature.}

I can't see were you said this ed about Klopp wanting 2 new CB's by next summer?

Agree0 Disagree5

{Ed001's Note - the plan originally was one this summer, one next, to give Gomez a season to see if he was worth developing rather than buying the second one. That was what I actually said.}

26 Sep 2017 16:51:05
Ok mate. And were do you think we are at now? Still wanting 2 in? Bloody hell its already sounding like another rebuilding job mate next year replacing Couts, Can and 2 CB's already lol.

Agree1 Disagree1

{Ed001's Note - right now I think Klopp would just be glad to get one in!}

Agreed. Possibly in Jan?

Can is replaced with Keita, Couts might not be leaving but otherwise yes I guess there will be full rebuild in the defenxe wich will take time to adapt after .

Hi Eds, has there actually been a meeting as Spanish publication Sport claims between Coutinho's agents and Fenway Sports Group in Boston with representatives of to make it clear that the Brazilian ace still wants a move to the Nou Camp?

Believable1 Unbelievable4

{Ed002's Note - it was not exactly like that but it is true that it has been made absolutely clear to the owners (the club already knows) that Coutinho wants to leave.}

26 Sep 2017 13:31:52
As if anyone had any doubt anyway after this summer lol.

Coutinho wanrs to leave? Since when?

Ed is it possible he might leave in January? Also I thought Barcelona said in the summer it was now or never?

Agree4 Disagree3

{Ed002's Note - I cannot sensibly answer questions about the timings of transfer nor any questions which include "is it possible". Barcelona have other options they are considering as well.}

What we panicking for?

It was this year or never so I was told. We wouldn't sell on a 5 year deal for 100 mil, why would we take less.

Rather have 4 years outta the boy.

As it stands at the moment Liverpool have a good chance of reaching the following stage. Barcelona may do so as well but would not be able to use Coutinho. It makes no sense him leaving in January but perhaps his desire to join Barcelona over-rides anything else.

ed02, like your honesty, even if it isn't always what we want to hear/ read
a questions if I may, haven' seen it so if I missed it, just reply rtfp. you think Mane will go next summer? why and where do you think he will go?

Believable1 Unbelievable6

{Ed002's Note - There was interest in Sadio Mane this summer from Inter Milan and he is a consideration for Real Madrid going forward - but they have another player or two in mind more immediately. Don't be surprised to see interest from Barcelona. As to whether or not he will move, Liverpool will certainly want to hold on to him but he, like others, will be attracted by the chance to challenge at the highest-level and will want to consider his options - so I think there is perhaps a chance he will go.}

thanks for the swift reply.

{Ed002's Note - You are welcome.}

I think we need to accept that the vast majority of players want to play at the very highest level and if they are good enough then there will be interest in them from the very best teams.

To avoid such things happening we need to be challenging for honours every year, domestic and european.

It is very rare that the best players will want to leave the best clubs and will generally only happen when there are other situations going on in the background. Costa leaving Chelsea and Neymar leaving Barcelona being two examples.

To get the best players and keep the best players you need to be towards the very top of the pyramid, at the moment we aren't. Hopefully that can change.

RedDawn is 100% right. The way to combat our best players wanting to play at the top is to be legitimate challengers for the top and to give them in Liverpool what they believe they can get elsewhere i. e. a full trophy cabinet.

Brilliant so a chance Mane could go to Barcelona but I suppose they want to play at the top. I just hope that we don't turn into a feeder club.

Big salaries will often do the trick.
Prime example is De Gea and Rooney at United.

When Rooney was playing well in a not so great United side, City came sniffing around and they offered him. A new contract reported at £300k per week.

De Gea is one of the best keepers around IMO, United paying him huge wages.

To challenge year in year out, you need to compete with the bank rolled super rich ownership structures. Unfortunately buying success is the current method ruining football and FSG aren't in the same bracket. One needs to spend $300m in today's market just to keep pace. If we could get lucky with a few players all hitting career best form at the same time, few injuries and a bit of good fortune we could challenge for a season or two, until the squad is cherry picked by Barce or RM. Sad but true. I think trying to outspend is pointless, just keep bringing new blood focussing on quality not quantity as there are enough decent players out there but we need to find them first, then it's just 11 v 11 on match day.
PS. Still think Liverpool need a gun striker first and foremost. Goals cure everything!

Bigger problem for LFC is that the EPL is the hardest league to get champions league every year, the likes of Chelsea and Man U have missed out in recent times. The 2 Spanish clubs aren't going to any time soon. Ultimately if a player wants the guaranteed by default route rather than being part of the reason for getting UCL then do you want to spend large sums of money to keep them.
