ed do you think that coates will be in the squad for stoke and what players ight have left by then in your opinion?? {Ed002's Note - I doubt he will. I am not goig to guess at others leaving right now aside from Degen.}

When u say i doubt he will do u mean he wont sign or he will be left out???

Hi Ed, Do you think Jordan Henderson will eat cereal on Monday morning? {Ed007's Note - I heard he was a Coco Pops fan, all the youngsters like the milky chocolate.}

Do you know where Degen is going ed? {Ed002's Note - QPR looks likely.}

Ed do u know if there is any firm bids in for degen at the moment thanks

red jonno {Ed002's Note - I don't know of firm bids, but QPR seems a likely destination.}

Looks like arsenal will sign park chu young, more fool them. We'll be laughing when he's in the army!

27 Aug 2011 21:00:02
hi ed, any chance of us swapping joe cole for a spurs player?thanks {Ed002's Note - I think it unlikely.}

Wat about glen hoddle oh and maybe gazza

Krancjaer

Joe cole for pavlyuchenko that should be a good deal we get a back up striker what every one keeps going on about

I was thinking kranjar, pavielchenco or david bentley

You'd be lucky if yu could swap Joe Cole for a packet of crisps. RED LENIN

Swap for dos santos if anything, DC conection too.

any news on stevie gerrards injury and possible return to action?
thanks
jimbo {Ed002's Note - The standard answer applies. I very much doubt we will find out anything specific. The club made a statement and we should stick with that until we hear otherwise.}

I hope he's made to work for his place and not just given.it because of who he is! We're playing well at the min and dont wanna see that change!

At the arsenal game gerrard and fabio capello were talking and gerrard put up two fingers don't no if this means two weeks two months will find out soon if he is on the bench or not ed do you see this??

Made to work for his place,whats the lad been doin since he got into the team.hes carried us for years.and hes are captain,why should he work for his place

ste liverpool

Made to work? kenny will have to try and hold the lad back, he's waited a decade to play week in week out with a strong squad and probably waited just as long to play his heart out for kenny!
s.p

Work for his place are u on drugs he is a legend.
I heard that he started light training last week and heard nothing since so must be going well i think he will be back playing for
us after the England games i can not weight with him in the team we could finish top of the table.
Gav1234

I'm with you Ste, to me he's the first name on the team sheet....well after Reina, Carragher, Lucas and Suarez. Mind you, Adam and Henderson are difficult to replace.
Oh what great problems to have!

The Booter

@ the booter
Thats what I mean who can we drop? Stevie is getting on a bit now and are midfield is lookin pretty young! I know you'll will not agree with me but stevie hasnt been playin that well for 2 years now, I just dont think he should be first choice anymore :- what do the eds think?

27 Aug 2011 17:25:17
not a rumour but people saying raul meireles to chelsea but meireles is out for up to 6 weeks so wouldnt he fail a medical i dont know what would happen ed
cheers {Ed002's Note - I don't expect he will be moving to Chelsea.}

Raul is out for 1 week 2 max said the offical site

Doubt it, an he's only out for 1-2 weeks not 6 weeks!
Skurks

If he was having a medical they would work around the injury like aquaman when he came to us.

A player wouldn't fail a medical for a short term injury - during a medical the buying club is looking for more serious underlying problems with the players health and fitness. If a torn hamstring or dislocated shoulder etc could prevent a transfer there'd be none.

Po

I agree i dont think he will be leaving. BUT he is only out for 2 weeks

You claim to be a liverpool fan check the website 1-2 weeks

Didn;t you notice andy carrolls injury when he came to us???????? injured players can pass medicals you know, they do it all the time

Did Aquilani and Carroll fail their medicals when they joined us ????

KK said he would only be out for 1 week

Was it Downing or Barry who signed for their last club in a leg cast?

Is there any reason we haven't bid for Gary Cahill, Ed? Apart from the price tag?

Rob {Ed002's Note - And putting the efforts in to Coates.}

Thanks Ed002, you seem to be confident it's a done deal.. Which usually means it is! I haven't seen you commit when you're wrong.

Celticbuddha {Ed002's Note - I suspect it is down to the international clearance being provided - basically confirmation that he is not registered with anyone else.}

Cheers Ed, do you think there will be any effort put into signing him even after Coates is signed?

Rob {Ed002's Note - Cahill? No, I very much doubt it.}

Ed, you said that we werent interested in Coates, and when someone asked you, you responded as if it was a stupid question to ask. Why should we trust your opinions? It only seems to be Macca that has any insight into any transfer dealings at Anfield {Ed002's Note - And so it starts - please point me to the post where I said it was a "studid question". Just ignore anything I say - suits me just fine. I see you could not bring yourself to sign your post.}

You have carragher, skrtl, agger, kelly and then coates. At a push Johnson can also play CB. How many CBs do you want?

What is the fe*ish with Cahill? Lets say we get Coates and Cahill, would you start asking for Peter Griffin also?

27 Aug 2011 15:47:25
Q: Eds can you tell me why we haven't seen anything of note in the media about Coates? I.e. Transfer Talk on SSN, or confirmation on LFV.TV that we have agreed a fee?

Thanks Richy p {Ed002's Note - There will be when it is announced finally.}

Coates was at the Bolton game today and was shown on TV

He was in the stand at todays game so i think we can say he's signing :) {Ed002's Note - I will be in the stands at the Toulouse vs PSG game tomorrow, but I am pretty sure neither are going to make an offer.}

He was in press box at anfield today

To ed002 so why would coates be in the stands tonight?a doubt e would foly over from south america just to watch the match,he is a dead certain to sign trust in king kenny {Ed002's Note - I expect he will sign, but Sylvain Marveaux attended two games last season and turned down the contract at the last moment - so not "dead certain".}

Nice one ed.. You never fail to amuse!

Myk

27 Aug 2011 15:34:46
Hearing we are looking at Harry Kane of Spurs 18 year old England u-19 international, possibly as a part of the Joe Cole deal, Coates will sign

Inside_red

Coates was at Anfield today. Its out of the bag. Spare us the 'rumors'

Great business if it happens !!

27 Aug 2011 13:59:24
Hi Eds, do you know what will happen to Nathan Eccleston? {Ed002's Note - I don't know what the plans are.}

27 Aug 2011 12:55:51
Afellay could be the perfect addition and the final peice of the puzzle in my opinion. He is at the right age, mentally sound having captained PSV and positionally he can cover 3/4 positions - which would also allowing Dirk Kuyt to coverhis natural position in the forward role and role in which he thrived at the end of last season when Carroll was out. Afellay would fit nicely into the team which would see liverpool through for the forseeable future whilst the youth are nurtured through.

I would go all out to get him if I was King Kenny and Don Comolli!

Opinions Eds??

che-mistry {Ed002's Note - There may be a chance.}

27 Aug 2011 17:59:33
My mate is away barca at the moment and it's all through the pubs with the locals that liverpool have approached barca about afellay and the player is very interested about move to prem. This could be just pub chat but thought I'd let you know.

Also on a non transfer related item. Henderson has took some serious stick since he come here of so called fans. The lad his 20 and is certainly gonna be quality. Give the lad a chance. He's been great against Bolton so far today.

All through the pubs? Really?

Henderson is 21....haha but i totally agree mate

I dont think he will after this match great goal by him and pass to put suarez 1 on 1 with the keeper shame he missed

SPOT ON support the young lad he's gonna be quality

Barcelona, pubs, hmmmmm

No, we shouldnt sign Afellay. If the boy is naive and stupid enough to think he will get a game in the current Barca first 11, then we shouldnt sign him.

Better performance from hendo. But we need more than this..and consistency

He got stick from ignorant people. He wasn't bad in the first 3 matches, he was just average and it is reasonable when someone changes a team. The kid has a lot of potentials and he showed it today. He will need a lot of time to perform like this constantly.

I don't know enough about Afellay to comment so I won't... As for Henderson, he seems to be playing very cautiously, afraid to mess up... He didn't release the ball early enough a couple of times today but I'm not gonna say he's a poor player.. He is getting better and will just need more time to get confidence and gel with the others more than everyone else.. In my opinion anyway.. Everyone had a really good game today though...!

Myk

I was one of the Henderson doubters. He, along with (big time) Charlie Adam had good games today, as did all the lads. My issue with Hendo is that he appears cautious as Myk says. I feel these two need to press the ball harder and quicker and take more responsibility. I can appreciate nerves, but I can't take a lack of application. You can still work hard if the game isn't going your way.

Sebastian Coates at Anfield watching the Liverpool-Bolton game. Coates just shown live on sky at anfield

Saw him too mate, the commentators also said he had passed his medical and that they were waiting for final paperwork

Yes we all saw him

Can't believe 2 clicked disagree to my post. Was watching the match on sky n they put the camera on him with his name n said they believed he has passed his medical n just the paperwork needs sorting out before they announce anything.

Coolio - this transfer is job done now - I expect it to be announced tomorrow afternoon so the media can carry on talking about us for another day!

Gonner be monster

Jay essex red for life,yer i saw him too.sky cam panned up on him he is a monster, the chap that sat behind him could not see the game.can some one please tell him we won 3.1 ha,up the reds great win the boys.we are on the up,in king kenny we trust

27 Aug 2011 17:01:07
So, following the interview of Coates earlier on youtube, this is the rough translation;

He says it's a big move for him, he's leaving behind a lot of good friends and colleagues but he feels it's the right thing for him to do at this point in his career as he is pursuing his dream. It's the biggest transfer his club Nacional have ever done, and he has been with them since he was 11 years old. Also says that economically the offer was good, even though he rejected an offer from a Ukranian club who wanted to pay 8million € more than Liverpool offered, it's not about the money, Liverpool offer more sporting opportunities than going to Ukraine would.

Thanks to my mate MC RVee for that!

27 Aug 2011 16:54:23
Just watching the Chelski match whilst waiting for ours and im sure i just heard Luis Suarez's song from somewhere of the crowd??!

Dazza

Well its not like the chavski fans can make up there own is it? maybe they should buy one from a music artist ie jedwood lol

We copied celtic they have been singing it for some time now

We sang before celtic Wikipedia it {Ed007's Note - Have a wee look at this guys, brilliant.:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ljBbMJhEyPc

We did not sing that before celtic wiki or not

27 Aug 2011 16:52:07
So the Norwich keeper gets sent off when it was questionable to say whether it was a goal scoring oppurtunity. Phil Dowd is the 4th Official.. I hope he has taken notes. Where is the consistency? Phil Dowd has cost us so many points over the years..

He is the worst ref in the league by a country mile

Reffs get away with murder especially the so called big named ones. respect the reffs my arse.........thought you had to earn respect. how many games do they ruin over a season? affects top and bottom of the table.JOKE

27 Aug 2011 16:24:18

27 Aug 2011 13:44:44
Not sure if you's have heard but Park Chu Young to under go medical at Arsenal in next 24 hrs! We can stop going on about him now..
Titto

Park Chu Young is a boardroom purchase. Something is very wrong at Arsenal. . . Arsene has lost control of transfers

How do you work that one out , oh because he is not a overrated , overhypred player that costs 30 mill

27 Aug 2011 13:14:24
Park chu young on way to have medical at arsenal according to BBC

It dosn't sound like we were ever in for him reading whats been said on the bbc
wildRED

Why r arsenal bargain hunting?

Ha, looks like Wenger effectively ruled out any chance Lille will negotiate with Arsenal for Hazard. They're not happy about this.

But...he will go for a medical at Arsenal and then we will put in a last minute bid for him. And we will get him. Go on, ask the Ed. ***ls

27 Aug 2011 12:42:13
5 players still to leave Liverpool this summer:

Christian Poulsen (1mil) Espanyol
Philip Degen (free) QPR
Joe Cole (3mil) Tottenham
David N'gog (4mil) Bolton. Buy back option included
Brad Jones (1mil)

Getting rid of these players will save the club approximately £33mil with the transfer fees, and cost of wages for the remainder of their contracts. (Joe Cole contributes £13mil of that)

AZ

1st, someone is gonna pay for poulson? lol . 2nd , degan ? ill happily drive him wherever myself. cole could be going ngog will go and jones will be released for personal reasons. summat to do with his family i think. the greedyman

Brad Jones is on a free, the club have agreed to release him on compassionate terms due to the ill health of his young fella. He will not be getting us £1m

Emos1892

Why have the club not released Jones yet then? I've been hearing this for weeks now. Surely it isn't difficult to release
Someone on compassionate grounds? Maybe he doesn't want to go or perhaps we want something,however small?

Why on earth would there be a buy back option on N'gog??

Dazza

There is no way Cole is on 13 million a year. That's 250,000 a week.

I think he means the 13m is all the money left on his contract for the 2/3 whatever it is years

NGOG will prove himself... worth have a sell on clause or buy back option......

Actually, no agreement on Jones yet - still hoping for a transfer so we don't have to pay out his remainder. However, late transfer window release still most likely as very little interest and none significant. Wish him all the best anyways.

27 Aug 2011 12:35:56
Seb Coates passed medical awaiting work permit before confirmation
L1

27 Aug 2011 12:17:39
Seb coates has put pen to paper on a 5 year deal, around £50000 a week. Lfc looking at releasing this today

Craig bellamy has been offered £65000 a week 1 year deal and the option of a further year

Liverpool still in the market for further players.Comolli had been told there was £100 million to spend this summer, but a large percent has gone on paying players off, agent fees etc and accomadating the wage bill which is increasing still.

City r paying Bellamys first year wages

A 20 year-old on £50,000?
I seriously doubt that tbh

Coops

Are you serious? Since when is wage size judged by age? How old was messi when he started earning big bucks at Barca?

BooDaBooze

27 Aug 2011 11:25:30
Afellay To Sign

no firm proof yet

ste liverpool

Hope so

Ah but who is he going to sign for? I doubt it's us!

An autograph?

An early christmas card is it!

Enquiries only, as with 50+ players since April. That said, if there is an extra signing after Coates and Bellamy, it will be this guy.
Likelihood: 3/10.

27 Aug 2011 11:01:50
KK will signe Matt Jarvis on Deadline day after the sealing the Bellamy and Coetes deals.

Ronnie

Oh of course he will! We now have maybe 2 or 3 dozen deals to be done on deadline day.It'll look like a supermarket check out won't it? Players being pushed through the scanners."ding" that'll be £487 million pounds please Kenny!

Thats marquee isnt it? no need for the lad

Would prefer hazard or a.johnson....

Would prefer messi,but could we get them or would they wont to come

ste liverpool

Yeah but i think hazard an a.johnson are possibilities but messi would never happen so what's your point?

Not saying it won't happen but I know someone at wolves and he said arsenal have been looking at him, more chance of him going there

27 Aug 2011 10:22:46
alrite ed is there any truth about the Ibrahim Afellay rumour,or is caught offside being reliable as ever?

ste liverpool {Ed002's Note - I don't know of any firm interest but I have enquired to see if we can find out. It seems unlikely but not impossible. I am travelling today so I would not expect an early answer.}

27 Aug 2011 10:49:19
Ed is the Coates transfer still on or is he going to Atletico ? cheers . {Ed002's Note - It is still on.}

Coates has turned down a move to Atletico, so he will now definitely come to Liverpool.

LFC for life

Are we most likely to get him Ed ? cheers. {Ed011's Note - Most likely yes but there is no guarantee}

27 Aug 2011 10:48:59
Hey Ed's according to caughtoffside we are linked with affelay , comolli is going to make an late bid for him so do use reckon this could be true or b.s ? it would make sense on why comolli went to spain 2 weeks ago and plus a lot of people are saying we are going to be doing more business on deadline day after we get coates and bellamy ! {Ed002's Note - It seems unlikely, but not impossible, to me.}

Isnt he out injured?

Lazy journalism once again from caught offside!

For those who do not believe Atletico Madrid put in a last minute bid for Sebastian Coates, check this out.

Y.N.W.A.

I believe they did, just that Coates already had his heart set on LFC.

Surprised it was only atletico made a bid, expected a few big teams to come in late.

27 Aug 2011 10:29:40
I predict Coates will be presented to the crowd at the match tonight just like Raul was a year ago.

27 Aug 2011 09:50:56
how much did we get for insua or did he leave on a free. Irish jr {Ed002's Note - Free I think.}

27 Aug 2011 09:44:34
Coates: Joining in the next 2 days.
Bellamy: Joining before deadline.
No further signings for first team squad.
Bueno: Starts 10-day trial soon and will sign after that. Will spend 1st year back home before moving over permananetly next summer to play in ressies initially.
Nacho: Done deal. Will join up with Academy squad within the month.

Ngog: Joining Bolton before deadline.
Cole: Joining Spurs before deadline, possibly loan to buy.
Jones: Not much movement, may end up staying until January but could go on a free.
Mendy: Will not be sold yet due to form last year - more time in ressies or loan if one can be arranged.
Shelvey: Expected loan no closer to fruition. Part-season loan most likely at some point though.
Wilson: Will be loaned out as expected, probably to Rangers, probably seaon-long.
Degen: Has a few suitors - sale very likely but probably on deadline day.
Skrtel: Staying - likely sold at the end of the season - extra CB spot being taken by either Wilson or Wisdom rather than a purchase.
Maxi: Staying - likely sold at the end of the season - extra winger spot being taken by Suso or Sterling rather than a purchase.
Lucas: Going nowhere.
Kuyt: Staying for this season. Could move on next summer as always had ambitions to play in Italy and there will still be interest in him in 12 months.
Hansen: Will be sold at end of season.
Aurelio: Will be sold at end of season - extra LB spot being taken by Robinson.
Flanagan: Staying with first team squad this year rather than loan. Loan possible for 2nd half of season depending on injuries.
Poulsen: Some interest but nothing concrete - could be another waiting til January for a move.
Meireles: Contract agreement very likely in next month.
Carragher: 2 more years in first team squad prior to retirement and coaching role. Doesn't want to coach whilst still part of squad.
Coady, Wisdom and Sama: Ressies this year, loans next year.

What a pity! You were doing so well until you mentioned Flanagan going out on loan.No effing chance!

Don't think Carra would make a good coach, has recently stated he would need to control his temper if he went in to coaching. Can't see him lasting 2yrs neither.
kidmillions

no need for anyone elses posts

Bueno has already had his trial. He scored for us in the 1-1 draw.

Re: Flanno - with Johnson & Kelly both fit (and preferred) he won't be left to rot in the ressies. Needs to keep playing - don't want another Spearing, i.e. where his progress is halted for 2 seasons by playing mediocre kids/ressies constantly.

Bueno has not had his trial. Bijev, Nacho and Tapia have. Bueno yet to feature for either ressies or academy as part of his trial.

Was it Kenny Dalglish that posted the original post? How do you know the details about each player. Shameless.

Aurelio's contract is expiring next year and he will leave on a free.

PITSILFC

Apologies. Didn't mean for this to be taken as ITK. Just wanted to gather together what i've taken to be the most consistent info on a selection of players as of this moment. So many questions get repeated here so was hoping to offer some collective insight. The info given is based on most-repeated/reliable and consensus opinion but certainly not definitive. Should've put a disclaimer but got carried away with the list! And yes Aurelio's contract is til 2012, sorry. I meant that he'd be gone not sold. Darby's is til the summer too, and he'll also go on a free it appears. Didn't mention some players (Gulacsi, Doni, Agger, Spearing, Ecclestone, Amoo, Roberts) as i have no idea where we stand with them at the mo. Any ideas much appreciated.

OP

p.s. We're signing Hazard for £24.5m on Tuesday. ;)

27 Aug 2011 08:59:22

{Ed002's Note - I don't think so. Aquilani will be 5.7M euro but note that you have mixed curreencies (£ and euro) in these figures.}

27 Aug 2011 08:57:20
Hey Ed's
how do you rate "Moa" from Hannover, he seams to be throwing them goals in.
Seams to me like a good "backup" in the front.

what chances do you think there that we have any interest in him? {Ed002's Note - There is no interest in Abdellaoue that I know of.}

27 Aug 2011 08:34:11
Eds, was there a transfer fee in Insua's move?
Thanks {Ed002's Note - I don't think so.}

27 Aug 2011 08:05:00
morning eds
with carragher in his last year ,agger injury prone and im not convinced about skrtel even when we get coates probably today do you think a second cb will arrive.

scott dann clearly loves the club and is the cheapest of my 2 options but i still think a deal can be done for cahill.
arsenal regardless of value have clearly gone in with a low offer thinking they now have a clear run at cahill,
this may well have worked in are favour as they have upset the bolton owners.
bolton wanted 18 million but an offer of 15 might work keeping in mind we will get 3-4 million for ngog which brings that down to about 11 million.
do you think there is still interest ?.

mystic red....... {Ed002's Note - I don't see a second CB this summer.}

Ah mystic red you've been crystal gazing again haven't you? Only another £11 mill from our bottomless coffers? Sorry lad but if we sign Seb C we won't be signing another expensive defender

I'd agree with that.alls arsenal have done is irk bolton,trying it on. we should step in.

Maybe if we could sell Skrtle , I believe Anzhi offered 10 mill., then we could get Cahill as well as Coates.
CR

Ed002 is correct. We have gotten a CB (a young promising one at that) in this window and would say that no other CB will be coming in.

Didnt realise carraghers last year when did he say that??

Agree,esp,after today.cahill quality

27 Aug 2011 07:45:27
Eds please can you let us know what happened to that rumour from macca that went on late last nite relating to coates, bellamy and ruiz? Cheers {Ed002's Note - I guess if there is any further news on teh subject Macca will say.}

I noticed that it had disappeared too. Any reason why it was taken off the page Ed's? {Ed011's Note - It was definitely a fake macca}

27 Aug 2011 09:09:44
We will see 3 more players at Anfield this summer.

The first will be Sebastian Coates (7mil)

Then Will be Craig Bellamy (free) 1 year automatically becoming 2 if he makes 25 appearences. He will be given around £65k/wk.

The final will be M'Baye Niang (7mil)

A host of players have left, but there will still be more departures.

N'gog will go to Bolton for 4mil with an option to buy him back for 7mil before summer 2013 and a 35% sell on clause

Degen and Joe Cole are also on their way out to QPR and Tottenham respectively, both for minimal sums.

Liverpool are looking to sign base players..players who can get them into the Champions League. If they manage this then next year expect much fewer signings (2 or 3) but all of them to be exciting, potential world class players.

This sounds reasonable.

Wow! i bet you had to cash in all your favours to get your hands on this information, so well done to you.

Well we are NOT gonna buy n'gog back. s**t player

A sell on clause is always a good idea where young players are concerned but I'd rate the chance of us buying N'Gog back as between slim and zero!

The club probably doesnt think the chances of him developing to a player worth buying back are slim to zero. Why include the buy back option?

If given chances, he could turn out to be a very good striker.

Why would QPR want Deadend when they are trying to sign Luke Young for £2million?

27 Aug 2011 08:53:00
LFC confirm Insua has signed for Sporting Lisbon on a 5 year deal. No fee mentioned.

Made up were started to get rid of the crap,sum1 plz take poulsen

ste liverpool

Yep. This one is no rumour as it is confirmed. Good luck to the lad.

BooDaBooze

I wonder if they have enough mcdonalds for him over there.

Pleased to announce Coates IS coming!
At Madrid did submit an offer, which was made over 10 days ago, pre-Liverpool and, although excepted by the club, as soon as he became aware (via Suarez) that Liverpool were interested, he made his mind up that Anfield was his preferred choice.

His work permit has caused a few issues, but will be cleared.

If Liverpool fail with their Coates transfer (if he is to go to Atletico) then Dalglish will battle it out with Wenger for Cahill on transfer deadline day. A bid of £12mil + N'Gog.

Coates is a done deal. Athletico bid's was higher, but he chose not to speak with them.

He won't be moving to Atletico.

Oh bloody hell! Deadline day signing!What's this fetish about deadline day signings? if a player's available at an affordable price then sign him up straight away!

Irrelevant. Coates is like 99% on to sign.

Suarez was said to have been influential in the arrival of the Uruguay centre-half Sebastian Coates, who underwent a medical on Friday after Liverpool agreed an £8m fee with Nacional. A deal to take Craig Bellamy back to Merseyside from Manchester City, who are willing to settle his contract, is also thought to be close.

Liverpool pondering over a £17 million bid for out-of-favour Real Madrid attacking midfielder Kaka.

Cheers

KP

I would love to have Kaka providing he would be injury free but £17 mill is just to much as he is 29 and not had good season since his milan days.

TexasRed

Garbage

Dream on lad

Why ?????

Not going to happen!

You win the prize for worst rumour this week and are in the running for worst rumour of the month award!

This must be a signing for all the medical staff, to have something to work on all season long. Now we are clearing all the dead wood out. Ahh as nice as it sounds,its complete and utter TOSH.

We need a world class winger,or Carroll will be a flop. We can't rely on Suarez.

Downing is definitely 'world class' in my opinion.

Dunno mate, was a Downing doubter a few weeks ago, but reckon he's the real deal - PS, where did he find all that pace??

Ya we can rely on this world class winger then

Caroll needs to learn how to work hard as well as how to how to anticipate play. His positioning sucks and he looks lazy.

I'm a real convert of Downings myself. I actually thought he was an inferior version of Riera a couple of years back but he has been class. Potential game winner on his own and excellent for Carroll.

Duriny his tyne with Newcastle (get it?), most of his delivery came from one Jose Enrique. The two linked up really well in their first game together in Red and I expect this is why we signed Jose over any other option (Gael Clichy, for example)

If Kenny had wanted another striker who would run all over the place he would have gone for another in the Suarez style. Carrolls role is to give us a physical presence around the opposition penalty box and try to create space for players like Suarez and attacking midfielders. Must admit he does not yet look like the player he was before he was injured at Newcastle but hopefully that will come.

Realy what world class winger did he have at newcastle?
eoghan

Carroll has already had some fantastic balls over to him but his anticipation and/or willingness to fight for the ball leave a lot to be desired.

If you knew your football and anything about our record signing you would know that most of andy's goals at Newcastle came through the central midfield via the through ball wing play however is just another option su

Downing is greedy and over hesitant.there have been a few times when he could of passed a ball into the box but overworks it and then players are closed down and the moment lost.

Downing is a great winger and will give Carroll a lot to work with. In the long run I do believe we need these kind of player on the right as well. If rumours about Afellay are true, then with Coates now on his way to Liverpool we will have a great team.

If Bellamy comes I believe he will spend much of his time as a sub.

LFC for life

We can't rely on Suarez to do what? score goals? Make a brew at half time? play Santa Claus at the club Xmas party?

Downing is greedy and hesitant? Are you mad? He's been quality - loads of heart and passion....so what if he's taken a few shots on he's a new signing trying to impress and correct me if im wrong but we've been missing players that will stand up and take responsibility when we can't break through with the strikers. If your entire midfield can score goals (as ours can) then why not have every one of the f*ckers banging shots in as often as possible?
At the end of the day it only takes one sweet strike and it's a goal - but you're not gonna score EVER if no-one has the nuts to have a crack. Better to have shot and missed than never to have shot at all......and who creates the space for these shots? The much maligned monster Andy Carroll.
Duckula

Nail on head! dont care what anyone else says. he aint type to create own. needs service. not lumped forward, back to goal. from wide! endve

No we need pace like elia or afellay

Unbelievable, "Can't rely on Suarez". The man is intrumental in Liverpools success. Just watch the team play when he's not on the pitch. We need another Suarez. Carroll bounds around, quite slow and play ends up one dimensional and a bit dull

Agree with some post here!; Downing is a quality player and i have to be honest i thought he was overpriced at 20 mill but he is proving me wrong, he got alot of pace and a completely player he was from Aston Villa, shooting dribbling and just look like he is reborn, hats off to Kenny saw something special on Downing also to the people saying "he is greedy" I rather have someone shooting that has a possibility of scoring than someone who just pass to the net eg Arsenal

any chance of us getting sturridge ?
jayyy {Ed002's Note - No.}

I think It would be very smart to incorporate sturridge into a deal that would take meireles to chelsea

Your the eternal optimist ED002!!!!!

Or the eternal child. Mum, I want this, I want that, I want that one too. After Sturridge, I am sure he will be asking for Conway Twitty

I wish
adam johnson

And still the shopping list goes on and on! Neither Sturridge nor Johnson are available and Sturridge has repeatedly been quoted as saying he wants regular 1st team football which he will get with chelsea set to unload their older strikers soon.

Suarez 7/1 outright top goalscorer in the PL this season well worth a gamble i reckon, rooney and aguero are both 5/1

You could of got 14s like i did before the season started ,also got 16s for carroll.

Well 2 weeks ago i got 25/1 Suarez top goalscorer in the prem. ya beauty Rob Smith JFT96

I took suarez a couple of weeks ago at 10/1!!

Rob lets hope we are all in the money come end of season ,thats great price you got mate well done .jeffo

I got 17-1 In July on betfair. Well worth a tenner.

This is not a rant, but an observation.

I've read a lot of Carroll posts here. A new myth seems to have emerged - Andy Carroll the hard worker. This is the latest nugget in 'the innaccurate assessments of Carroll' collection.

Come on now folks, Carroll is as lazy as sin.

Anyone who has been watching the last few games can tell you this. If they refute that, then I don't care what they think - they clearly have no idea.

He made one half assed attempt to win the ball back once v Exeter.... and it led to a mistake from their rightback and a good attacking opportunity, but that was it - we need more of that.

A great strike v Exeter but admit it folks, he was AWFUL until that strike (which was a great hit). I mean unbelievably bad. I'm not here to slag off the guy - just being honest.

Technically, he looked the worst player on the pitch.... against Exeter! His first touch made Skrtel look like Franz Beckenbauer...... In particular, one easy take which was miscontrolled (or you could call it missed control more accurately) had Kenny tearing his hair out.

Comparing his workrate with that of Peter Crouch to display how hard he works does not help, or prove anything either. I've read such comments here. Really.

I hope he bangs them in this year - but folks, claiming that he already works hard and ignoring/refusing to accept the bad aspects of his play thus far (he can improve) does not help either.

If you lot were to be believed, we already have (in Carroll) the complete striker in the World upfront atm (I don't mean Suarez btw..... he may actually be that player!).

Carroll needs to work harder. Some of you think he already does work hard - good luck to you. But I maintain that he will be a £35m flop unless he ups his work-rate.

Forcing defenders into making errors is a basic requirement of a striker. Defenders are usually not the most technical players and when harrassed, they make errors, whether losing the ball - rushing a pass or conceding possession by lumping the ball out for a throw.

This is basic stuff.

If he ran his balls off for the team, I reckon the fans would be more forgiving about him. Look at Kuyt v. Arsenal, Carroll was widely criticised (rather unfairly I feel) whilst Kuyt, whose performance was also very poor, was largely spared criticism.

That's because Kuyt as we know, works hard (There is even a banner that reads 'Dirk Kuyt works hard' lol.).

Carroll's lazy approach to playing upfront is just making him an easier target for already critical LFC fans.

But remember this.

That thunderbolt of a strike v. Exeter? That was no fluke - he has the killer instinct and has a might left boot. Thats what we paid for, he's shot us down like that before - just like he shot down Man City last year too.

And I've found a new love in my life, for his chestal layoffs - at times they are very nice indeed.

I think he will up both his all-round game and his work-rate. I have faith. It's not all bad.

Only two league games gone though folks - I fancy Carroll to bag a brace v. Bolton.

Cue lots of slobbering on here. lol.

Everyone relax. Give him time. As far as I'm concerned he is a new signing who needs to settle in, just like the other new lads.

But work harder big man! it'll make your life a lot easier and get the critics off your back.

BJH YNWA.

ps. And stop falling over everytime you are touched you big lump of a man!!!! I heard him described as a 'battering ram' here - he should be, but it is he who gets battered more often than not!

'Man Up'. lol.

pps. I still reckon he can be quality! I would also suggest that Liverpool's coaching staff are aware of the issues stated above. They're not mental (I hope).

ppps. Until now, I hadn't even mentioned his heading ability. Which has potential too. Amazing eh.

If I had both the time and the abilty, thats pretty much what I would have said.
Its a delicate balance between slagging and assessment and I think you have come pretty close.
I think he will be awesome - but there will be frustration intermixed with adulation.

I retract that statement.kyb

You've already made your narrow mind up pal. No point in anyone trying to change that.

Dirks Engine Room

I agree that if you work hard for the shirt "a la kuyt" your short comings get over looked. kuyt's control over the football is awful, he's already given the opposition, half a second extra before he gets the ball under control. So yes carroll to work harder and he'll come good once his touch returns

Wow, very nice. I agree 100%. There was one episode where he was basically strolling around.

One thing you missed is his rather bad possitioning. He doesnt really know how to anticipate play. Go watch Saurez's goal against Exeter again.

Just expanding on what has been said about the big man i to have dispaired about him,only because i can see he has everything in his locker,but do our midfielders really have to volley the ball high in the air at him instead of to his feet he has great control we do,nt see it cause our game plan is plain for the other team to see give the big man credit to feet to feet as the ex manc said you will see the best of him when were putting through on goal y n w a carrol.

BJH, i hate to say it but i agree with you. He would be 2x the player if he worked on his speed and fitness. Maybe having someone challenging for his place will get him to fight harder for it. I feel in a few year he will come good but at the moment he is so slow, he doesn't even hold up the ball for faster player due to his woeful first touch. Hes young and kk bought him for a reason but we may have to wait a few years.
Wheeler92

Since u continue to talk about wat he needs to become a better player, i have one for you. When you are playing poorly and you know this, u dont want people reminding of this 24/7 and its a fact that if everyone layed off him he would improve so instead of talking about the negatives, talk possitive.
Dark-knite

Thanks for the comments lads, I meant this for the banter page. Silly me.

Good points made here by you lot about his positioning, anticipation and also about the contribution of his teammates to his performances too.

I have some problems with Carroll atm, but I also have faith in the big man.

I can see here that I'm not alone!

3 points tomorrow!
Come on Andy!
Come on the Pool!!!

One game at a time, lets see where it takes us! Jeez i'd love a Carroll hat-trick though! I'd be made up for the guy.

BJH YNWA

The game has changed, best teams have moved away big battering ram forwards and have gone small ball, control and PRECISION passing, especially top teams, it hasn't been long, but we have all seen pool becomes livelier and more dangerous when carrol comes off the field, liverpool and possesion and control team that's giving away ball on carrol crosses from players that are not best crossers. On top of that we are overspending on average players that can cross. Carrols money would had been better spend on Aguerro, Mata, and our back 4. Speed, crativity, pin point passing, and hard work are the name of the game now. Carrol will be Ibrahimovic going to barca experiment failure number 2.

Wow. A handful of games while injured and 3 games regaining match pace and you've made your mind up about him forever already? Glad I don't have to please you! Even God himself isn't that judgemental.

What we still need to remember is i still dont feel he is 100 % fit... if u compare his preformances from the end of last season to this season and pre season his workrate has improved....

but if u compare his workrate from now to the start of last season he still has alot of improving to do so give him some time the boy is quality.. (lack of right foot is concerning though)

I'm hoping he comes good, but I'm starting to have doubts, we have had some excellent crosses coming in and he isn't there to be on the end of them, surely that is his role?

Anyone who opens a long rambling lot of thoughts with "this is not a rant" - should know they are ranting.

UNiT

Give the lad chance, who knows what his instructions are from the management. He has hardly played since Christmas, we have had the summer break, it will take a little while to come together.

You want a ballence veiw , leave him for a few months then make comment! I am not claiming he is going to turn out to be a massive success, but I think we should all at least give him a chance. He didn't look too bad against City last year or against us away last year, I seem to remember a fantastic strike from 20-25yards, so not just a battering ram.

With regards work rate he needs to play high up the pitch because of his lack of speed, if he chases to the full back or drops into mid field, who are our mid filders going to play the ball to once they have won it back?

Oh and by the way.....Kenny went after him and the fee was inflated because Newcastle rated Carrol at 15m less than Torres.

Please put things into context.

It looked to me Carroll was carrying a leg injury Hence his display so give the lad some slack and judge him next year.

You've clearly never played at a decent level and don't understand that a guy as big as Carroll doesn't cover as micyu ground and move around in a similar manner to somebody such as Wright Phillips. Its physically impossible.

Give Vermalon a ring and ask him whether or not he thinks Carroll works hard.

Ozone

I totally agree now the dust has settled hes far from the finished article its a good job weve got suarez

I watch the "big man" Andy several times when he played for Newcastle and my best mucker is an avid Newcastle fan. He rated him highly and stated him as a "battering ram" that near no one beats him in the air. I do agree with the original post but do realise it's early days and the lad needs time as the pressure must be immense (British transfer record).
I don't know if this is the way of the coaching staff or Andy himself but, he always hangs at the back post which does have positives (team mates will always know where he is when crossing) but it mainly is negative as he should be mixing it up. He needs an Aldridge/Rush, a dedicated attacking coach to show him the ways and then big Andy with his attributes would scare the sh*t out of PL defenders. I do believe us as LFC fans can make or break a player and should give all players our full support (we nearly broke Lucas, now look at him) when they play, but constructive criticism is what it is as every fan has his own opinion, but just writing that some players are sh*t is a disgrace and I for one read past most comments like that.
Baz Mac

Your inability to understand the game is confusing his lack of sheer pace with not working hard...

anyone who's being watching the games can see he clearly is working hard but he simply isn't fast enough to close down balls and put pressure on effectively...

you try playing up front on your own against a passing team like Arsenal and we see how your work rate is...

Ed's - any chance you can just delete this post that's from a non LFC supporting numpty?
Why let idiotic stuff such as this get posted?

It was not a rant, it was well presented and was 100% correct. At present he`s pretty poor, but we all hope he will kick on very soon, he needs to as does Henderson who has looked bloody awful so far.!

Matt B

Great post mate, hit the nail on the head.

maka

Do agree with most of the points on Carroll, I think he needs to work on his movement off the ball, sometimes when crosses are coming into the box he's trying to head it and generate power from a standing start. I also think Confidence is a massive part of a players make up and Andy will improve with a few goals behind him and that alone will improve his movement.
kidmillions

The post wasn't well presented and certainly isn't 100% correct.

You should do some more thinking and less talking

The brainwashed, ie i never criticise till their gone merchants. who forget vast fortunes these guys are paid.wont like your post. fact is 100% correct!aint nasty, backs the guy. but constructive criticism which is true.trouble with us lot,were too sensitive "calm down, calm down"mentality.i see no problem saying truth. makes nom less of a fan.indeed more honest if blinkers off.aslong as backed at games. forumn criticisms fine, especially if constructive.

Although i might not totally agree with you i at least give you credit for not being like the other posters on here who just totally slag him off, you at least point out the positives as well and leave your mind open for the fact that he can improve.

In my opinion you've hit the nail on head. He needs to lose that 'throwing the toys put the pram' attitude each time the cross isn't on the money (like he did with Henderson (btw who seems to have replaced Lucas, and hopefully will prove the critics wrong). He has bags of potential and I remember watching him in the newcastle vs sunderland 5-1 game and he was untouchable, actually destroyed them and let Nolan pick up the pieces and its that attitude and effort I personally want to see.
BenLFC

Your all blind ...did anyone watch henderson in last three games i hate to say it but he s got a long way to go to be average ..back to carroll exeter maybe not his best game but he s done well if the goal had counted against sunderland you,de all be praising him and it would have given him confidence ...he just needs a goal or two

Lol@ Ozone (former World player of the year) Got a grudge there m8? Have I made you look like a fool in the past? lol.

I see you have read my last post to you then, I was waiting on a reply that never came. lol. Pretending you didn't see it eh?! lol.

Seriously though, what are you talking about? I don't expect him to buzz around like Suarez, chasing back and switching flanks (thats a better example, Wright-Phillps?! what a mental comment btw, what ARE you talking about?!).

I understand that Carroll must hold a higher, more central position as our primary 'target man', but thats no excuse for not fighting for the ball when it's in his area. He just strolls around and lets centre-backs waltz forward with the ball.

tbh I don't expect the likes of you to understand - or the person who still says we should have signed Aguero and Mata, or the people who haven't signed their posts (pretty obvious why).

Any other fans who criticise what I say by making good arguments or good points, I have no problem with that at all. I'm happy to be corrected and to learn from other people's observations. But not from the likes of you Ozone, sorry m8. lol.

I suggest you read what I originally wrote again - this time try reading it without thinking 'this is the guy that made me look stupid - I'm obligated to disagree with anything he says' and then writing a stupid post about how I'm wrong (because Carroll doesn't move like Shaun Wright Phillips apparently - lol).

Because thats what you just did.....

BJH YNWA (still waiting on Ozone to write something sensible, but then, he'll probably pretend he didn't read this either. lol.)

ps. Seeing as how Vermaelen was roundly praised for his performance, again I am bewildered by your brain. In your mind Carroll ran him ragged did he? He didn't seem to me to be too overawed by Carroll in the game I watched. Get me Vermaelen's number from your mates/colleagues at the PFA and i'll ring him to see has he recovered yet..... lol.
