Hey Ed001, What's the transfer status of Allan de souza and Harry wilson? Are both of them expected to go out on loan?

{Ed001's Note - or possibly be sold.}

Really ed, harry Wilson might be sold? Surprising and disappointing after doing well last season.

Surely it should be a loan deal instead of a sale for Wilson. The lad has talent.

I really the boy leaves, what is a man to do to get a chance? He is a winger, and he scores for fun.

It's a hard topic lads because yes we want our best youth players to come through the system but honestly what chance in the prem are they ever going to get? The ed's have eluded to the Like of Harry Kane and deli Ali where faith was put in youth player that wasn't even highest though of but get the chance and grow from the experience. Modern day fans demand the likes of kieta etc a 22 year old lad who had one Stella year in Germany, let's be real for a sec, most of us won't of seen the lad play only highlights, and reports! Most are calling for us to smash records to bring him in, yes it's clear he's talented but people are more then happy to turn their backs on emre can who has got better and better an we know the backroom rate highly! If you was emre what would you do, it's not about money ofc not, he's at a stage he realises he's gunna make more then he will ever need. But the lad needs to play an progress to move forward. Jesus look at coutinho 3/ 4 years ago? A reject from inter for the same reason!? He didn't see a way forward.
I'm wittering on but youse get the point somtimes it's best to have faith that our kids and coaches are good enough to bring through rather then changing every year on the latest trends to apise fans.

I couldn't agree more Mickmullin. I don't usually post here as I don't have any access to rumours and am certainly not ITK. I am posting simply as a fan from India who feels the same way as you do. I have seen liverpool open a couple of academies here over the last decade or so, as we have done in several parts of the world and call me naive, but I feel it would be wonderful to have a system where we seek to promote our best and brightest from the entire youth system to the first team.

Whether or not we have the money to go out and buy the latest 100 million pound player, I would like our club to be run in a manner where we teach our own kids how to play and show them a realistic chance of getting into the first team and wearing the red shirt with honour. It's ridiculous to expect the club to simply spend for the heck of it. CM is currently not a huge concern in my opinion and I am also all for giving Gomez a real shot instead of smashing our heads repeatedly against the wall to try and get VVD. Considering the position we've put the lad in, as well as ourselves, we might actually have to go in and bid for him eventually. But I really do believe we can win big things with our own lads, if only we persist. Barcelona, for all its glamour and star studded front line, was at its peak built mainly on homegrown talent. There is no reason for us to not manage to do the same, and not run after the latest player the internet is going gaga over. Let's not treat our players like iPhones; we don't need a newer model every season if the last one works just fine. Emre is going to be a great player IMO. He's definitely being seen as part of the German national team's future and we should also place our faith in him. I totally understand if he's unsure at the moment. I hope we can sort his contract out and move on to actually preparing for the next season in the best manner possible.

Rant over. Thank you eds for doing a fantastic job and maintaining this site. Wherever else would we fight and quibble among ourselves on the internet?!

YNWA.

Being in a premier league academy does a lot for them without promoting to first team. Academies at other clubs will look at those lads if they are released they won't look at kids who haven't been in an academy. Clubs in the championship and league 1 will take a punt on them, try getting that if you've been released from Barnet or Crawley. It gives them an elevated position from which to get a decent start to their career. Realistically the only reasons to have an academy are to produce a commodity to sell and to take a shot at finding the odd gem. Unless you are a selling club you can't and shouldn't be bringing in several players a season from your academy. In fact realistically you only have as many players in the academy because you have to be able to field a match squad, it doesn't mean they're all potential first teamers.

Having said all that you equally shouldn't be spending large sums on a player like Markovic when you have lads with the same potential already at the club so I do understand the frustration. I just think fans, especially at a club like LFC with a tradition of developing players, have unrealistic expectations on how many of the academy players will come through. If Woodburn and TAA become the first team players they're expected to then that is a pretty good return for that age group.

I agree detailslocked. Solid post IMO though I do believe there will always be so much talent outside the club you can't afford to just promote from within and expect to be successful. Do as best you can to ensure the players have a future, whether in football or outside the game, and serve the community with integrity, but don't promise first team opportunities one day to 14 to 16 year olds who look promising. It's a fine line to walk, selling the club to young players you think look good while also considering what is truly best for the kid.

Hi Eds, what's happening with Cameron Branagan? Seems to have disappeared off the radar.

Was the big fuss about Branagan for a few weeks last season just a flash in the pan or has he got potential but just not progressing?
