Gutted! Like all LFC fans all over the world after another embarrasing day for the club. Torres and Gerrard must be wondering what they have let themselves in for, to be truly honest on paper our team right now i think is worse and weaker than last seasons team. We have waited for 4months for a quality back up striker for Torres and we are now to wait another 4months to see if we get one. We still have no quality left back, we have sold the best holding midfielder in the world for peanuts we have sold Reira and Yossie and let 2 quality youth players go to Fulham. We are a laughing stock! And don't get me started on the Babel debacle how on earth is Babel ever going to lift his confidence up after been told he is part of Roys plans to be then told he's not and to fly and ride around England to find a new club, Embarassing or what! We ard now a laughing stock to the rest of the league. Cole and Raul are quality players that's it, the best we can hope for with what we have got is 4th that's it. There is not a cat in hells chance of Torres stayn now and to be honest I don't blame him. Rant over Gutted red!

Just seen on Revista that Trezeguet had an offer to join LFC and was very interested. But he also had an offer from Alicante and the reason he chose them was because that's were his wife is from.

So you can't say that Roy was not trying to at least get 1 striker in weither you like Trezeguet or not after what happened today with no striker coming in i would have carried Trezeguet to Anfield myself.

I think all us expected a striker to be signed and it hasn't happened, we have to get over it won't change now. I would like to see Babel giving a run up front to see if hes good enough once and for all, as for Ngog hes no way near good enough and never will be. As for playing Joe Cole central i don't think hes strong enough, i think he'd be better on the wing he would create more.I don't understand why Woy let Aquilani go. I think if we kept him and if we play one striker my midfield/ attack would be. Aquilani Meireles

I've been over-negative in my previous posts and that's because I share the same frustrations as every other true fan. However, I agree with many of the positive posts which are optimistic about our chances if we can consistently field our best eleven.
Obviously, we need to keep Torres fit and we'll need to prioritise competitions, utilising the likes of Amoo, Shelvey and Pacheco in the "lesser" games.
I would look at "rotating" Jovanovic and Pacheco on the left of midfield in the Europa games with Cole behind the striker (Babel, Kuuyt, N'Gog) and I'd definitely have Johnson right midfield. For the Europa I'd give Shelvey a chance DEFINITELY instead of Gerro and Brad Jones in goal is a no-brainer. Poulson and Lucas could provide Euro experience in midfield with a chance for the promising Wilson in central defence. Kelly should get more and more starts for Euro experience as he's our future in defence.

Finally, I couldn't comment on the banking affairs at the moment, I'm not 'in that loop' but I'm sensible enough to be able to deduce that the 15-20 million profit we've turned will go towards the debt/ fines/ interest payments that we are hamstrung by, which in itself means 'Bodgit and Scarper' won't have to find that money. So although they may not be spotted leaving a town centre branch of the RBS with a lorryload full of used tenners, they won't have to be taking one there either. Once again they benefit from a transfer window.

The only way they have benefited from this transfer window is if there is any money left then you can guarantee the banks will take it most probably for interest payments as you know G&H were paying 2.5 mill a week. Now that the club is not sold by 31st August it was being reported that RBS would impose a fine of 60 mill. So if anyone gets the money it's the banks.

ED doe's this mean now that G&H are liable for 60 mill for not selling the club before 31st August as was reported IF it's true?

(1) Where does the figure of £2.5M a week come from - the loans to the bank are less than £240M - even if we take that as an example with interest at 8%, that is only about £370k per week. (2) The August 31 date is hearsay only - there is a penalty potentially due in October if the loan is not either repaid, renegotiated with RBS or refinanced by someone else. I know an attempt was made by H&G to refinance the debt with BarCap in June and if no sale is in hand then I expect they will attempt the same in preparation for October. No one picked up on the June 30 date which was significant in terms of more control in the matter of the sale being passed to Martin Broughton which in turn led to the July 1 statement - that was a surprise.}

Liverpool have announced that El Zhar has gone out on loan for a year (check the LFC website)
And Gomez could potentially come in on a loan deal as I believe the loan window has not shut yet.

Why oh Why did Roy not sign a decent striker to partner nando? I think it is utterly ridiculous as look what happened last season when torres got injured. .
Ok so we may have ngog, kuyt babel and pacheco as back up but none of them can score goals and that has been proven last season. I really hope there could be a loan deal coming in or even a free transfer as even an older more experienced striker on a free would be better than nothing. I think its going to be a long season for us and don't know which way its going to go.

Kuyt regularly pops up with 10-15 goals a season, quite often big goals as well ie the derby. Ngog scored a fair few last season when he got thrown in when nando was out

Seems carlton cole transfer collapsed because redknapp went off on one at spurs.
babel went to london to do a swap deal for pavlechenco but at the last minute liverpool were told west ham wanted babel and would be willing to swap him for cole if they could buy robbie keane from spurs.
not happy at liverpool backing out of deal redknapp refused to sell keane to west ham so with no replacement west ham refused to sell cole.

as i can't find it anywhere apart from they may of put in a late bid and now its past 6 so unless its been done behind every1s back spurs have not signed vdv so stop getting your knickers in a twist

there was alot about it on sky sports news and as long as they faxed their paper work to the premier league by 6 then everything is fine. the premier league have to look over everything until it is confirmed. he only arrived at the spurs training ground 6 mins before the deadline so they may not of got it finalized on time but i doubt it.

i have faith in roy and also for the 25 players that we regester for this season.

If it's a swap deal for babel/ cole then it will do a job, babel doesn't create much and doesn't score enough goals. He has been given plenty of opportunities. Cole can score (albeit not many) and he's no Torres but can he be of more benefit to us than babel? Even if he scores just 10 goals, that's about 8 more than babel.

Maybe a stop gap player until January, let's be honest, what could we do with the time and money available to us at the mo?

I wouldn't be too unhappy if carlton cole is on his way to the club. he had a good season last year and played on his own up front all season in a very average team and still scored goals. if it was a choice in a 4-4-2 formation partnership with torres id pick him over any of our other strikers. Carlton Cole is similar to Heskey, and if he can bring others into play the way heskey used to do for england, and roy can turn him into the type of heskey that bagged 22goals in his first season at anfield then this will be a good signing for us, look at what roy did with zamora, so lets get behind whoever comes in and really support them. Roy is really after a proven goalscorer with plenty of experience and is using all of his managerial and negotiation skills to tempt none other than andy cole. Roy has said "we need a player of the same callibre as konchesky here at anfield and andy fits the bill" another signing rumoured to be imminent is the return of Igor biscan the natural replacement for steve Gerard.

The Anfield manager was in talks today with at least five different clubs as he attempted to find back up for star centre forward Fernando Torres.

The Reds are trying to bring German international striker Mario Gomez in on a year long loan, and even though his club Bayern Munich are resistant to any loan deal, Hodgson is continuing to negotiation.

He has also made enquiries about West Ham striker Carlton Cole and Spurs forward Peter Crouch, and is prepared to offer winger Ryan Babel as a makeweight in any deal.

I for one won't be too disappointed if another striker is not signed today, But i will be VERY disaapointed if a wideman isn't signed. Converting chances isn't our problem as Kuyt (when played up-front), Babel, Ngog and obviously Torres can all score goals. Our problem has been creating the the chances in the first place.

West Ham have held a long-term interest in Babel and he has been mentioned in a possible swap deal with Carlton Cole.

Tottenham and Liverpool are reportedly considering securing a swap deal that would see Anfield winger Ryan Babel head to White Hart Lane with Russian Roman Pavlyuchenko heading in the other direction. Roy Hodgson is looking for more attacking options and Harry Redknapp is after some more wide men and has already been linked with a move for the Dutch international so a deal to exchange the pair may be agreed.
A straight swap would appear to make a great deal of sense for all concerned and both players are valued at around £12m but it could be that initially any deal could be on a temporary loan basis.
Such a move could become more of a reality if Spurs fail to capture long term target Steven Pienaar from Everton.

Sky bet have slashed odds for Wayne Bridge to leave Man City today from 12/ 1 to 1/ 2 on to join Liverpool, also Ryan Babel is evens to join Spurs today with rumours of David Bentley coming this way as part of the deal, also the earlier Robbie Keane post could have something to do with it too. Other rumours heard are the reds have enquired about a number of City players (SWP, Santa Cruz, Adebayor ect) Santa cruz is 3/ 1 to join Liverpool or Fulham. Apparently the Matio Gomez deal might be rescued if the Reds Agree to a bizare clause which the must purchase Gomez for around £15-20million if he scores a certain amount of goals in his year long loan, doubt that though.

Im living in Dublin and i live only 5 mins away from Malahide (which is where the Irish national team train) and me and a colleague where spectating the training session.
Mid-way through the training session Robbie was called to one side by an unknown person (PROBABLY HIS MOTHER-IN-LAW OR WIFE, WHO LIVES IN MALAHIDE TELLING HIM TO COME HOME FOR HIS DINNER OR MICHAEL ONEILL FROM SHAMROCK ROVERS WHO ARE BASED IN ROBBIE'S HOMETOWN :) and he vacated the grounds immediately.

Not a rumour, more of a wish. . We should be focused in bringing in a quick winger with an eye for a quality final ball. We do not lack strickers. What we really lack is fluidity, creativity, attacking variety and final balls to kill opposition. Torres, Kuyt, Babel and Ngog can all score (each one with his own talent and ratio of course). However, everything depends on their proper "feeding". ALEXIS SANCHEZ is a type of player Woy should be looking to bring in. This is the player that fits the bill both tactically and macro-economically (shirts sales, marketing etc). I cross my fingers and pray. .

Here is my take on what is going to happen today! !

1) No striker unless on loan with perhaps a small payment in kind towards final payment in full. We have limited funds and need to fill the wings this is a priority. Moving on to my next point below.

2) I think turan/ ruiz/ elia one or possibly 2 out of the three will be coming, these area's have been identified as our weakness by Kenny and Roy and they need to be filled ASAP. We have players that can play in the forward position so wingers are a priority rather than a forward unless of course we can get one on loan which free's up the cash for wingers.

Roy will have a 2 year plan and I suspect that wingers are January/ next year priorities as we have "cover", (I'm not saying it's good cover by the way). Roy does need to bring in an experienced Striker as it'll then allow Ngog to go out on loan.

Roy Hodgson has stated four or five times now, that we DO have the room for a Striker. Not a Winger (even though i would love TURAN). He has also stated that if Liverpool can find the player "that fits the part" (Roy Hodgson's words) we still may not finalise a deal before the transfer window closes.

So if we have the room for a striker im guessing that NO ONE is in the know!

For the past month on this site not once, have i seen anyone say we were negotiating with Raul Meireles. Then, one day everyone realised we had struck a deal.

Who are the players we have consistently been linked with for the past few weeks that fit the striker mould:

. Klaas-Jan Huntelaar (signed with Schalke 04)
. Mario G�mez (according to Bayern NO DEAL)
. Rick van Wolfswinkel (why when we have Babel, Ngog)

Chances are that we won't sign any of them, maybe not even a striker at all. Truth is, the only people that know are RH and the back room staff.

The most obvious deal at this point in time is Konchesky. Insua has left for 3 or 4 million i believe. Paving the way for a new LB. Only thing holding up the deal is Lauri Dalla Valle having a medical with Fulham.

I think we are all too optimistic with who we are going to sign. At the end of the day look at who we have already signed (Cole, Wilson, Jovanovic, Poulsen and Meireles), and the mentality in which RH is managing the team. These are things to be excited about!

In my opinion Ed we could do with both, there's no point playing a 4-4-2 without pace and crossing ability on the wings, if were gonna stick with a 4-5-1 then I think we could probably do with two more pacey wide players so that when attacking the formation temporarily adjusts itself to 4-3-3 the way Chelsea used to play with Robben, Duff/ J Cole .

I have been a Liverpool Fan all my life, from the days of King Kenny 'till the present time of "El Nino". I have a few points to share. Some great things and signings have happened during that time. However, unfortunately I believe we will not sign anybody else (apart from Konchesky). Why? Well;

2. We have no Money, the Americans will take the Mascherano money and run.

As much as I love Liverpool FC, we need to face facts:

- We will NOT sign anyone from our Premier League rivals (Arse, Manure, Chelsea, Spurs, Man C) as they see us as a threat

- We will NOT loan players such as Huntelaar, Gomez, Benzema as there are a multitude of clubs that would jump at the loan option themselves and could offer Champions League football.

- We will NOT sign Aguero, Suarez, Ruiz, Hulk, Young, etc as we are run by two tight-fisted Americans and over half the Masch cash will have gone towards Mioreles.

Although we are all justly proud of our illustrious history, it is money and exposure in the Champions League that entices the top players, not heritage and club loyalty.

More realistic targets are: N'zogbia, Jerome and, unfortunately, Carlton Cole

And I still hope the rumours of Toivenon and Turan are possibilities though. Whoever we get, we back them to the end.

Insua's twitter is interesting. Looks like he's off to Istanbul. This doesn't necessarily mean it's part of a deal to bring a player in, but I would expect it to be part of a deal for Arda Turan.

Whatever the case, I hope Insua does well over there, I always felt he gave all he could when he pulled on a Liverpool shirt, and it's unfortunate things didn't work out for him.
