For me, and I mean no disrespect to Tranmere in saying it, his first remark alone should bar him from ever being welcomed as a player or in any other footballing capacity at Liverpool, and doubly so for insulting the town itself.
To be fair, people do joke around when a camera is on them somtimes, and he may not have meant it too seriously, or as badly as it sounds when you read it, but he was clearly being very cocky because Spurs were playing well and him too, and LFC were on a bad losing streak.
But joking or not, he was kicking the team while it was down, and he had no need to insult the city too.
Sadly for Mr Bale, the class of LFC will eventually come through, and we will back in our rightful place, and kicking him and his team's arses all over the park, home and away.

You know when people like Boris Johnson say we are a city of self pity? Well I think its reactions like this whenever someone takes the piss that live up to that image, and make Scousers a joke in others eyes. Why for the love of God can't we just take it on the chin? (With the almighty exception of The S* newspaper, )

How about lucas barrios of dortmund, , he looks good what you think of him ED {ed's note - I have not seen much of him, I don't get to see a lot of German football, but I keep hearing about him so he must be doing something right.}

hes only 25, , he joined dortmund last season, , , scored 23 goals out 36 games not bad id say and scored 6 in 11 games so far this season

Hi Ed, very rarely contribute as I have no sources whatsoever, but just wanted to see if you'd heard anything about interest from the Red's in Xherdan Shaqiri from Basle? Heard something a few months back, and see that he scored tonight, so in typical footy rumours fashion thought I'd bring his name to the table. Looks a crackin lickle player. {ed's note - with the new guy in no one actually knows who we will be targeting just yet. We did have him scouted in the past, but I don't know if Comolli will have a completely new set of targets or not.}

Why is everyone raving about the chimp that is G.Bale. He's only had a few good games and all of a sudden hes branded the next Messi. He is a good player, but that's it. He is too one dimensional, Head down and run. He is too easy to shut out of a game as was proved by 'them' last week. I would take Modric or VDV over Bale.
Ed, I was wondering what does a director of football strategy do exactly? Is Comolli just a scout with a fancy title or does he tell Roy who we are signing, or maybe a bit of both.
Also agreeing with a lot of posts on here, Coentrau looks awesome, and I'd be more than happy with Toivenen and Afellay {ed's note - I am not exactly sure what his responsibilities will be, it seems like he will be a bit of both though.}

Napoli midfielder Marek Hamsik admits he expects Manchester United scouts to watch him at Liverpool tonight.

Hamsik, 23, Slovakia national at the World Cup in South Africa

He joined Napoli in June 2007 from Brescia for £4.8million and is highly rated in Serie A.

Hamsik now hopes to star at Anfield this evening in the Europa League to impress his suitors.

What did bale actually say about liverpool?"

One of the things Bale said was that he would sooner play for Tranmere Rovers than Liverpool, although I only saw that part of it.
It was pulled off you tube within a few hours (obviously someone realised the controversy it could cause for him), but someone watching this site must have seen the whole thing, or know where a copy is, or the rest of things he said- so let us know, or tell us where we can see it. As a person who grew up in Liverpool, frankly I am sick and tired of the stick and the bad reputation that the town gets, when it has exactly the same social problems as any other UK city or town, and in fact is better and safer than many of them.

Any news on the stadium ed , would be great if we could do something like the lucas oil stadium in indianolpis. wow what a stadium

1 more how far of is sterling and suso for the 1st team , 1-2 years? {ed's note - I haven't heard anything about the stadium yet, I doubt NESV have even begun to sort that out yet. I think Sterling is a couple of years away yet but Suso is very close, that lad is a bit special.}

he needs too be on the bench now then even if he doesn't get on its a chance too get experience with the first team , if your good enough doesn't matter how old you are (ie wilshire, walcott, bale)

Liverpool's new football director Damien Comolli's

Damien Comolli arrives at his new job of Liverpool's Director of Football Strategy

Tottenham and Arsenal. past clubs

HITS

Gareth Bale

Signed for a total of £10 million from Southampton, the Welshman struggled initially - famously not enjoying a Premier League win for 24 games - but his stock has never been higher after two captivating displays against Inter Milan in the Champions League this week.

Dimitar Berbatov

Though his spell at Manchester United has been unpredictable, the Bulgarian distinguished himself at White Hart Lane after his £10.9 million move from Bayer Leverkusen. That he earned Spurs a £20 million profit makes him a definite success on Comolli's part.

Gael Clichy

Before joining Spurs, Comolli worked as Arsene Wenger's chief European scout for seven years, and is credited with discovering Kolo Toure, Emmanuel Eboue and Clichy.

he may be the man for the job.

A couple of questions for you editor -

First one - I'm really excited about Suso and can't wait to see him in first team action, how long do you think it will take for him to atleast be on the bench?

Second one - How long do you believe it will take us to be serious title contenders again? I'm gonna say around the 3 years mark

Cheers ed (great site) {ed's note - he really deserves to be on the bench by now in my opinion, but we need a manager who is brave enough to take a chance on youngsters first. As for contenders, I think we could easily be contenders next season if managed correctly.}

Just watched Roy's interview talking about Comolli's appointment and tomorrow's game, and I can't remember seeing him looking so resigned, so serious and so sad.
Its not much evidence to base a rumour on I admit (although compared to some on here its gospel standard), but I'd swear he talked like a man who has been given very bad news- either unhappy about losing the power to pick new players, or maybe even been told he's on his way.
You have to have great sympathy for the guy if he is for the chop- he did steady things and hold the fort well over a very difficult summer. If only he could get the team playing well too.

We are really lacking depth up front(GIVE THE KIDS A CHANCE WOY) so Kezman would help, although West ham, Birmingham , Newcastle and Blackburn are all interested these other clubs don't fill me full of confidence about his ability.But given these names we will get him if we want him.Given his time at Chelski he may feel like he has something to prove in the EPL.What do you lot think? ED? {ed's note - I don't think it is worth the risk.}

I beleive liverpool won't be making big signings in jan, i think players such as carlton cole or swp are the best we can hope for

in my opinion i think the players who i beleive we could sign and who could maybe make the difference are the likes of Darren Bent, i know he's not world class but he does score goals and lots of them.
Another one is Andy Carroll, the Lads got it all and i beleive someone who could compliment Torres very well aswell as chip in with goals himself, also we need pacey wingers, the lad from hamburg Elija (spelling) and affelay could be good signings, iv heard rumours that Barcelona are in for affelay so whats to say they snap him up and he turns out to be the next best thing which would sum us up completely

Andre pierre gignac doesn't look a bad shout from what I've seen of him today! Stocky, strong, good free kick and a good touch. But it is against zilina:( Ed what dp you reckon to him and how much is he worth. P.s please people stop saying ". .is a not that good a player but he'll do the job short term" we need people like Honda who we can use long term and make a profit from! {ed's note - hard to tell from one match like that, but he has looked decent and has got a good reputation.}

Can everyone stop going on about bale. .i wouldn't want him after what he said about the club, but i think we should get meireles on the phone to Coentrao straight away and persuade him to join, he is pretty much the exact same player as bale and would be half the price.
ins
afelly 7-8 million
coentrao 15-20 million
offer taiwo a precontract for him to move in the summer
hulk 10-12 million
team after jan:
. . . .reina. . .
kelly. . agger. . skertl. . coentrao
afelly/ johnson. . gerrard. . meireles. . cole/ maxi
. . . . . . . .torres. . . hulk
wat do ya think ed? {ed's note - I would much prefer Coentrao to Bale, Bale was completely shut out of the game by Rafael last weekend against the Mancs.}

I'm sorry, but if fans are started to resign themselves to the fact that we'll be stuck with Woy (the worst LFC manager since Souness - but at least Souness would try to win a game instead of trying not lose) then we might as well hang ourselves now and ask the Premier League to relegate us for crimes against football. At least then we'll have decent players. If Woy stays in charge till next season our will probably consist of Almunia, Carlton Cole, some Scandinavian lad Woy worked with in the 90's and people like Konchesky and Poulsen.

If NESV want to succeed, even if they're American, they will know to sack Roy before the morale goes completely and we start permanently praising players like Kyrgiakos and Maxi.

Rant over.

My source is telling me that comolli is extremly interested in lukaku (spelliing) of anderlect roumoured to be worth 20m, that's alot for such a young player but he looks to have evrything and comolli belives he is well worth it.
He is also after toni kroos of bayern, pjanic of lyon, gibbs of arsenal and adam johnson. Click yes if you like these players?
ed do you think these are realistic and good options? {ed's note - not really no, not in the slightest bit realistic in my opinion.}

I see it has started already the guy has only just been named and we already have people claiming to know who he is interested in. How long before his 3rd cousin or best mate from school come on here and claim to talk to him every day and know exactly who he wants to buy . By all means post your rumours but don't lie about who you all pretend to know just makes you all look stupid when they don't happen.

To whoever posted this drivel! !

Oh My Word! So now Zindane taking over or is it Kenny or Pelligrino, Last week it was Rikaard taking over! !Football Manger 2011 must be out this week! !Stop posting crap this is for real fans, as for the names being toutet around concerning the players it is just dillusional , we just need a team mentallity, a bit of man management(Shankly style) and players who would die for the shirt. We must invest in British players, such as Shawcross, the lad Jarvis from wolves looks good and yeh i think SWP would be a good signing, much better than Maxi who is as good as a cock flavoured lolly pop! !but most importantly we need another striker and youth players need blooding more, so in the meantime play Ngo( He has potential, improved in the year and looks hungry) with 442. Why The F. . are we playing 451 its bloody crap. I would rather see us play proper footy and loose than experience the dour footy we have been seeing since the likes of Souness, La Frog and the Waiter. But people you are starting to make this site a joke and the people who are running this are doing a great job, please stop making there hard work more difficult weening out the mindless bollox, go the FM2011 site instead.

when i started reading this i thought es is right all wannabe mangers this page or scouts not rumours but then he cntradiks himself and turns into pro manager himself.
ps ed any news about what i sugested lsat week. get a page for scouts and team dreams. aswell as the banter and rumours. and can or has anyone else heard anythin about the zin zidan to confirm rumour apart from the poster earlier? what about your sourses ed? {ed's note - the page is on the to do list mate, but the list is a longggggggg one! The Zizou rumour was rubbish mate, I only posted it as I thought it would give us all a laugh, never expected anyone to actually take it seriously.}
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
Couple of points my old mate;

So this site is for real fans is it, and how do you define real fans then, I have no problem with whatever people want to post (yes its sometimes on the wrong page but so what) no one is forcing you to read it! !
Next. if you are going to support a players inclusion in the team at least spell his name right. its NGOG.
Next; souness, la frog, and the waiter. are you for real! whatever you may think of previous managers. they were that. they were managers. you may not have liked them but that doesn't give you the right to denegrate them in this way. or is that what real fans do.
I am not even gonna go near zizou. jesus you can't even get his name right.

I have no problem at all with anyone posting on this site. the editors do a fantastic job. but without people posting then none of us would be here would
we.
So take your holier than thou, xenophobic drivel somewhere else. or have i got to be a real fan to say that!

Ed, what to you think of Andre Wisdom?. . Probably the strongest player we got. . also is Michael Roberts that good. .apparently he's the most skillfull player in the reserves.

Toby {ed's note - I like Wisdom, he was excellent for England's U17s in the Euros during the summer (as was Coady) but I don't think he is ready for first team football. I can't remember seeing a Michael Roberts play for the ressies mate sorry.}

But can people really think we are going to sign him now after he's been on this goal scoring form and being bayern best player so far this season, so can people please stop saying we're going to sign him its like real selling ronaldo and barca selling messi. Ed of all of the youngsters we have at the minute which of these players do you think are good enough to play epl at the moment.i just can't understand how pacheco isn't getting games.also like to see shelvey and kelly in the side.would also like to see us signing lass taiwo affelley turan and bring back ayala.would you agree {ed's note - Ayala, Pacheco, Kelly, Mavinga, Shelvey, Wilson and Suso are the ones I would say are good enough right now.}

Why why why have we brought a director of football in? is it because nesv don't trust roy with signings etc? if so why is he still here then? i don't like the idea of someone buying players that dosent coach the team, just look at the dennis wise kevin keegan thing at newcastle. Damien comolli and jol had the same issue at tottenham. when jol left he said comolli signed players he didn't want and most of the players he signed underperformed he's also the person who brought ramos in to work with them players and nearly got them relagated, both of them got sacked. If hes that good at spoting talent why did arsenal let him go?
if Comolli's coming in now to buy players and dumber can't get them playing right, the new manager won't have a chance to buy the players he wants that's why i think its a bad idea. should of just apointed a top class manager. whats your thought on comolli ed? {ed's note - unless he is just here to be a link between the board and the management team?}

Damien Comolli will be quote "Working closely with Roy Hodgson and the coaching staff". So much for all the bull s* t rumours that Roy was or is going to be sacked! Ed what have your contacts to say about this?
Aroc {ed's note - what do you expect the man to say? Perhaps he should have said "I am here to get Roy out of the door as quickly as possible and choose and appoint his replacement". Of course he is going to say what he said.}
First of all this quote came from Henry not Comolli, now I don't expect Henry to say Comolli is here to get Roy out the door but I also don't expect him to say that he will be "Working closely with Roy when he is really thinking of sacking him. Just face it you were given a bull s* t story and you ran with it.

Sammy lee is a scouser through and through. no not good enough to be a manager or number two. he does get players hyped up for games though. he shows passion in each and every game from touch line. plus for first so many games he was only 1 to get off his seat to give order Roy just sat there for every game not moving out his seat until new owners came in. since then he gets up now and shouts at players. i don't think they no wot he saying like but he is shouting something. Sammy shouts with passion and Sykes players up. so for me no he's not a manager or number2 but he deserves a place on back seats in coaching staff. can anyone confirm about zin zidan ed?

Ed I don't know if i am chatting sh*t or not coz been drinking as a pre match warmup but I believe Sammy lee is Bo* ocks and whoever is in the hotseat at anfield be it Roy or whoever should appoint Borrelo as second in command.Didnt he do the same job for Barcelona and was pi* ed of when he wasnt given a better role.
Every player and that's basically all the good ones at the moment rate him as the best coach they have ever trained under why not give him a more high profile role and I am sure he would give all these great youngsters we have in our youth a fair crack at it.

The appointment of Damien Comolli will not motivate the first team and get them playing with smiles on their faces. Comolli is not the reason for the current success at Spurs. Much as I hate his sniping at Liverpool in recent months, the success at Spurs is down to the players enjoying playing for Harry Redknapp and his hard work.
We need someone who has the affect on our players atleast in the short term. That man is Kenny Dalglish until a permanent appointment can be made. I'm sorry but I just can't see Hodgson remaining as Liverpool manager beyond the next two weeks.

Hi Ed, first time post but here goes. Spent the other night (Mon) talking to Martin Broughton at an official function (he was visiting Riyadh). Managed to get him to open up a bit. Asked about the current squad and its strengths/ weaknesses. Asked if the core squad was good enough. He said the squad needed re vamping.
Some good players don't fit in, he named one England defender who needs to go as no one in the squad liked him, but stated a new foreign defender was fitting in very well, despite not speaking English! He said Stevie had been unsettled by the tabloid stories over his private life earlier in the year but was coming through that now. El Nino was his biggest concern, primarily trying to get him focussed on the hear and now and not worrying about the future (which affected his World cup and the season so far). When we asked if Roy was the man to take the team forward he was diplomatic but not completely adamant that he was, we will see.

He also spoke at length about the new owners and his belief they are here for the long term and will either build a new stadium, or more likely, enhance Anfield to retain the history and tradition. No info on any major signings though. A really nice bloke (for a Chelsea supporter!) The future is hopefully, bright!

An interesting post. But I wonder about the longevity of NESV at Liverpool. Was Broughton on BA duty or Liverpool duty in Riyadh. Maybe he was networking for his new 'sports ventures' business once he leaves Liverpool. Maybe he was seeking new buyers to give NESV a nice profit. Who knows.

Ed! if my memory serves me well didn't damien comolli get jol out of spurs for ramos to take over? do you think this is how roy will go? but for someone better than ramos( who could be worse than roy) {ed's note - I do think this is the first of the changes to come, yes.}

I agree with Ed here, this is the first of the changes that will eventually lead to the departure of Roy, however I would expect this to be a long process and I can see Roy maybe lasting the season (unless things get even worse and we drop back to the bottom 3 in the next few weeks) .
I am also hoping the appointment of director of football will encourage the owners to look for a young manager.
But one concern, and probably a question to the Ed , what will happen to King Kenny? is he in their plans? have you heard anything?

Roy {ed's note - he is very much part of their plans mate, NESV want to have a core of ex-players around the club. I am not sure how they intend to utilise them though, that is something the owners will make clear in time I am sure. Probably in a kind of figurehead role I would expect for Kenny, similar to the role Bobby Charlton performs with United.}

I love how. . now that comolli has been appointed people are coming up with young french players, because hes french, how many french players did he sign when at spurs? i said yesterday that roys job was safe untill nesv had there man to deal with all things football, i fully expect roy to have 3 games to buy him self more time, he just isn't fancied buy the supporters and comolli's first job, will not to be looking for young talent, but a manager instead. nesv could never have made that descision, they proberly have no idea who pellagrini is, or a frank rijkarrd. its going to be a very busy 2 months behind the scenes im sure.

Bad news about Pellegrini would have loved him to manage liverpool, but he was just 1 option to go for. now that damien comolli has been appointed we maybe 1 step closer to parting ways with roy (fingers crossed). as ed said nobody with any knowledge of football would say roy is doing a good job. so with the right word in the ear of john henry we might not have to put up with this boring football. with abit of luck stoke might be roys last game.
and to the post earlier about being worried that fans hope we loose to git rid of roy, i don't think there is anything to worry about. my love of liverpool fc runs far deeper than my disapproval of roy hodgson.

hopefully the young lads get a run out tomorow against the italians and give them a hell of a game.

ed do you think we are any closer to getting rid of roy or are there plenty of other things for the owners to be doing.

Im not sure Comolli's appointment today is a great thing for Roy personally, even if he has come out and said he's excited about the prospect of working with him.

I think what we have seen today is the first steps to oust Roy and bring in a manager, like say, Rijkaard who is used to having players identified and signed for them.

I guess all will be revealed very soon, Chelsea in my view will be Roys last game. .

As for your negitivity regarding Rafa, I personally believe that we were far better off with Rafa than the current situation, to achieve what he did (Champions League win, FA Cup win, Champions league Final, League Cup Final, 4 Top 4 finishes) with only a £25 million NET spend is heroic! Quite a few people have mentioned Darren Bent as a possible transfer target. 2 real sticking points, Bruce and Sunderland would want at least £30m for him, (he's scored almost every goal for them in the league, so dillusions of a fee around £15m are ridiculous).

Also, Bent is not the class we need to elevate LFC back to top 4. All he does is score , (sometimes lucky), goals and doesn't bring anything else to Sunderland other than that. So when the goals dry up, what are you left with?? also, he takes SAFC's pens, it would be interesting how many goals were from open play, and not off a bloody beach ball! !

This January will see 2-3 players coming in, (I reckon a left winger and a stirker), and going out each way. Don't be surprised to see a bid from Spurs for Glen Johnson, if they think they can get him on the cheap. My personal opionion is that we need a new RB, CH, CM, RW, LW and Striker, (my preferences would be Van der Wiel, Shawcross, Affelay, Defour, Honda and Lopez of Lyon.

Jack Robinson will make more apperences next year and then will ne first choice LB the season after.

Next Year will see Torres go, as I think he will do roughly the same as what Rooney was going to do and just not sign another contract, but if we sign Lopez, it'll soften the blow slightly.

To me it looks like a european setup is going to be used and a new manager will be brought in (hopefully) to work with Comolli.What do you think? {ed's note - the Zidane thing was someone trying to be funny, and it did make me laugh! I think it is the first step, Comolli will soon be in a position to run things if Roy has to be booted before a new man is ready to replace him.}

To ed; apparently our roy has known damien for years?!

Roy Hodgson added: "I am looking forward to working with Damien whom I have known for many years. We are engaged in an exciting project here and he will bring a lot to the table. We all want to see moves to strengthen the squad and support player development over the next few years. John Henry and I are totally united in delivering on that ambition."

I would surmise that this is the start of roy becoming marginalised, the team is beginning to take shape at board level, and it doesn't really leave roy in such a good position. If someone else is in charge of "football strategy" and identifying players etc. that leaves roy free to concentrate on. . .coaching/ tactics. He is gonna get found out

I pretty sure the Zidane rumours are just that 'Rumours' but I think he would be a good choice. When King Kenny first took over he was a world beater on the pitch but managerially untested but with the great Bob Paisley by his side as his assistant manager he proved him self. With King Kenny by his side ZZ could be great. With that in mind Ed, are there any other players reaching the end of their playing days who could step in to the hotseat with King Kenny by their side? Big Sami springs to mind and I always thought Gary Mac would have been a great manager with an experienced assistant with him to start with. {ed's note - I think a certain Jamie Carragher would be very upset that you never mentioned him!}

Liverpool have appointed Damien Comolli as their director of football strategy.

The 38-year-old Frenchman spent three years as director of football at Tottenham, where he signed the likes of Gareth Bale and Dimitar Berbatov.

He will begin work alongside Reds owner John Henry and manager Roy Hodgson with immediate effect.
"I am delighted to be joining Liverpool and look forward to working with John and Roy, " said Comolli, who also spent seven seasons as a scout at Arsenal.

"I think we all realise there is a big job ahead, but we all share the vision that John has for rebuilding the club and bringing back the success that the supporters deserve."

Working closely with Roy Hodgson and the coaching staff, I know he will make a valuable contribution to strengthening the Club and the squad as we move forward.

"Today's announcement is just the first step in creating a leadership group and structure designed to develop, enhance and implement our long-term philosophy of scouting, recruitment, player development and all of the other aspects necessary to build and sustain a club able to consistently compete at the highest level in European football.

"We intend to be bold and innovative. We will not rest until we have restored Liverpool Football Club to the greatness Liverpool fans expect."

The Comolli rumour is interesting as I would have expected the manager to have a significant part in such an appointment - Do we know if Roy has had any involvement with this chap before? ( I couldn't find a link )

If not ( and yes then making an assumption that Roy hasn't been involved in the appointment ) then it indicates a lack of faith in the manager by the owners and at the very least suggests that Roy is not a long term prospect.

Hardly news to anyone here but the first public sign that NESV don't fancy Roy.

Balague hates Liverpool. It is his job as Rafa's chief propagandist, friend and publicist to talk down Liverpool FC, its players, Board and new owners now and in the future to protect Rafa's 'wonderful' legacy at Liverpool. Really worrying to see Carlton Cole heading for the exit door at West Ham in January - even more disturbing is that Wenger sees something in him too! - I thought better of Arsene.

Bolton was a spirited performance and it was nice to see some grit at the back but watching the Newcastle game before and the Tottenham game last night, its clear that a lot of teams pose a threat that we do not.

I will say it again - width and pace.

No use getting a support partner for Torres if the supply aint there - and all of our play is slow and through the middle currently.

We need to find 2 wingers and for me, depending on who we buy would determine whether we opt for a Crouch type front man or someone like Bent.

Pacheco may be a good player, but he really isn't what we need at this point in time. He isn't a wide man for me and we already have too many central players not getting a game.

Adam Johnson, Bale, Lennon are the types we should be looking for - SWP is too inconsistant.

* *

PLEASE RESPOND TO THIS

I am not totally convinced by Sammy Lee as AM at LFC. I don't know why - but he was terrible at Bolton and I am not sure that he commands a lot of respect from the players. Anyone agree? {ed's note - he is a joke mate, Lee should never have been allowed back at the club in a coaching role.}

I think NESV should give RH complete discretion in the transfer window, enabling him to beat Barcelona to the signatures of Carlton "the Hit-Man" Cole, SWP, Danny Murphy and Titus Bramble. With the £8m we get for Torres and Gerrard we could secure ready-made replacements in Emile Heskey and some Scandinavian midfielders who Roy worked with in the mid-nineties.
If RH fails to bring back Djimi Traore he could always go for Phil Babb as his contract as a window-cleaner finishes in January.
In footballing terms we are slowly being twinned with Fulham and as Europa League runners-up we should be grateful of that fact. Like Roy I truly believe if we play well on Sunday and get a bit of luck we could keep the Chelsea score right down and, who knows, maybe even nick a point which could be vital in the fight against the drop !
We all know that these South-West London derbies can be electric so we have to rise to the occasion.
Come on Ful. . . . er, Liverpool!

Adding that to the fact that he is a marketing man's wet dream and it becomes a no-brainer that the club must surely be interested in him. Especially when you consider the fact that he is an outstanding player in a number of positions, positions we need to fill. So it is more of an educated guess than wishful thinking.}

Quite right mate. .If KK was involved in team afairs i really don't think Torres would struggle as much as he seems to. Mainly because i think tactically we would change which would help him immeasurably. It just seems a no brainer to have KK take over short term. then NESV can take their time deciding who they want.

Just think how much more joy there would be in the Liverpool of old return. actually trying to win matches

KK is not out of management for too long. Think about it.What does the manager actually do. In most clubs he will have some say in transfers but not total control. Fitness training is carried by a coach under the manager, as is goalkeeper, defender, mid-fielder training.The manager must oversee this training. The manager may well decide on the formation of the team 4-4-2 or 4-5-1 or whatever is needed. The MOST important function of the manager is MAN MANAGEMENT and CONFIDENCE BUILDING. Remember under Shankly, everyone believed Liverpool were invincible. I remember Liverpool loosing away to Ajax 5-1 under Shankly, and every single supporter, and player believed Liverpool would well and truly beat them in the return match at Anfield. On that occasion Liverpool didn't win but Shankly's power to make you believe was incredible. Kenny has the stature in our eyes, his love of Liverpool cannot be doubted, I'm betting he hasn't lost that MAN MANAGEMENT and CONFIDENCE BUILDING abiliy. All the other stuff that goes with the job he can delegate to others. We need the figure head of KK. The sooner the better.

I'm sure he'll be bringing in Damian Duff and The brazilian Ronaldo as his assistants. Would love to see Zizou butting fergie and fat sam on the touchline, but if he tried it with Bruce he'd probably bounce off his massive swollen head. Come on NESV make it happen!

Cheers for the reply Yep, carn't argue with that, I personally want him back now even its just a short term, I think alot of the players would be lifted by it aswell, I have read alot of Torres interviews where he talks about meeting with Kenny and how honured he felt and I know its usually just Lip service when it comes to players talking about the club they play for but one of things I have liked about Torres is he seems genuine hence the reason he stayed at Athletico for so long and chose LFC when he could of got paid higher somewhere else.

I don't know much about Afellay, but as a tricky winger I doubt he's any good at tracking back. . . and we all know what Johnson is like at defending! So, I reckon that team would get slaughtered down the right by teams. Imagine what Bale would do to those two! Go with 3-5-2 attacking, 5-3-2 defending:

. . . . . . . . . Reina. . . . . . . . .
Kelly . . . Hangeland . . . Agger

We should get these players

affelay
honda
dempsey
coentrao

ed how much do you think they would cost? They're pretty good buys cause honda would generate shirt sales in japan and dempsey in USA. I also think that affelay is the only player that we can get come january, the othera maybe summer. {ed's note - you are talking about 50m to buy them, though Honda would have to be the definite for January of them as it is the close season in Russia.}

I'd like to see Javanovich play upfront supporting Torres before the transfer window re-opens to see if he can be the answer to our lack of goals from the strikers.

I'd also like to see Johnson play as a right sided midfielder rather than a wing-back, I feel his defending is not up to the standard required for Liverpool, but going forward he has more to offer.

Im not convinced about SWP, yes he has pace, but Ive never seen him be consistant enough in delivering quality crosses.

If we are going to push the boat out for a striker that meets the requirements of young, talented and commercially viable I think this points to Aguero and I'd love to see him in a Liverpool shirt. He has the potential to help tap into the Latin market (Which Lucas is not achieving at the moment) as well as the European and World markets.

I hate to criticise players, but I don't think Babel has lived up to his potential and I think a new club would give him a chance to revitalise his career.

What do you think ed? {ed's note - I can see what you are saying about Aguero, but for me he is not the player to partner Torres. I am sure he can do it, but it would not be an ideal combination for me. As for Babel, he should have been sold years ago.}

I think affeley would be a great signing. All the dead wood needs to be cut (babel, jovanovic, poulsen, possibly kuyt)

We need a new style of play and the likes of affeley would be great additions.

Regarding the rumours of our latest targets, Toivonen, Afellay and SWP. Before he was initially named as a pre-season target I knew nothing of Toivonen, but have since watched PSV when on Satelite TV and would love him to sign, along with Afellay (who by now the whole of Europe is monitoring) I think they would both bring that next level qualities to Liverpool that we are currently missing.
As for SWP, he is very hit or miss, Lately alot more miss than hit. But, if the reported £5M fee is true, then it maybe worth a punt. On his day he is a good pacy winger (something we are crying out for). And of course if NESV gave us a blank cheque book, we would be looking at better players than SWP but I doubt that they will be. If nothing else he would improve our squad.
But as these transfer targets have reported in the Mirror, that undoubtedly means that they have been made up, and we are probably not lookint at any of them?

Liverpool will try to buy PSV trio Afellay, Toivonen an dDzsudsak ubt inlikelt o get all 3 as PSV wouldn't want to lose 3 of their best players in january so Babel will try to be used as part of the deal.
They are valued at 8M, 13M and 15M respectively.

To the original Ed. I know your opinion on King Kenny managing us and I can genuinely see your point. I would be devastated if his rep was tarnished, however drastic times need drastic measures (Ok I may be over exaggerating here). I have been having an argument with my mate who was against the idea for the same reasons you gave i.e rep tarnished plus he felt he had been out of game to long. My argument was that he hasn't really been out of the game at all, Ok he hasn't managed but he is at every game I have been to and is at every match I watch on TV even before he became back involved when Rafa was in charge. Since he's back he has signed a couple of young players one of which is Jonjo Shelvey, and from what I have seen of him, King Kenny was spot on demonstrating that he has an eye for spotting talent. If you add these to the fact that he has won numerous leagues as a player and a manager including a prem title with Blackburn, he sounds like the ideal candidate. Again I know it's a risk but if Kenny wants to get back into management who are any of us to argue with him, and if he came back and won the league I think the champions league winners parade would be a small gathering in comparison. I mentioned at the start of this post that my mate used to be against the idea but he has recently read |Kenny's recent autobiography and is now all for the Idea. I haven't read it myself yet so I don't know what is in it that changed his mind, although he did mumble something about the boot room, but I was too p* *d to understand what he said (we had just beat Bolton 1 nil - cause for celebration which says it all really). My other reason is that I don't think Roy is right, tactically speaking, and I just don't know who else I would want in charge. Anyone else have any comments/ ideas for or against would be good to hear them.

Bob Loblaw {ed's note - I certainly wouldn't be upset if the King came back, he is just not one of my first choices. I really can't see how he could be any worse than Roy, that's for sure!}

Ed - do you think there's any mileage in the rumours that Damien Comolli could be on his way to LFC following his alleged resignation from St Etienne yesterday?
I hope so! The guy has an eye for talent and is excellent in transfer dealings. I think Harry Redknapp is seeing that now with Bale, Dos Santos, Hutton etc and his experience at both Spurs and Arsenal will help too.
He is rumoured to be a great friend of Billy 'Moneybags' Beanne (General Manager of Oakland Athletic NBL team) and also has an etye for football talent. {ed's note - I think there is a lot of mileage in it, he does seem to be the guy that suits NESV's profile judging by their Red Sox experiences.}

Hi Ed I'm gonna try again. . please post Ive seen a few posters requesting contact details for John W Henry. .

Mr Henrys email is: 'jhenry@redsox.com'

This is an email I sent to him last week prior to Hodgsons 5th victory away from home! (Well he did say he wanted to hear what the fans had to say)

Dear Mr Henry

First and foremost I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for saving our club and to wish you all the very best for the future success of Liverpool FC.

For many, many years, well 20 actually we have been living in the shadow of our fiercest rivals - I dare not mention their name I am sure you know who they are. To cut a long story short, and I guess I'm probably not alone - The managerial position at LFC is under some scrutiny and I have to say I'm not the least bit surprised, in my opinion appointing Mr Hodgson as manager was never going to work out.

You have probably been bombarded with emails from us Fans with requests for a change and here's my reason - RESULTS DON'T LIE.

Looks like we're slowly becoming in poll position to sign Afellay in January. What great news, hopefully it'll mean selling someone like Babel.

What would people think of a swap of Babel for C.Cole if we get Afellay? We'd still have all if not most of our transfer budget left and 2 vital positions would be filled.

As for serious signings, I can't see many people coming in, I'd love Hazard but if we do manage to get Afellay it would never happen. I'm thinking Defour in for about 12 million and perhaps a new striker if we don't do a swap deal or some sorts. Coentrao wouldn't go a miss either, both him and Defour would cost about 25 million and would be brilliant together.
Any opinions?

Once again we are being linked with a move for great striker in Carlton cole. What rubbish, but last time when we were being linked, roy was more then interested. He even over looked at some of the better ones and bidded for Cole. Luckily, we escape. .

The latest word on Pacheco according to the official site:

"The boss (Roy Hodgson) is keen on him, " he told Liverpoolfc.tv.

"He sees Dani filling those wide roles, so when he plays for the reserves he occupies those positions and learns to adapt and play in them.

"It's good for his development to learn several roles and it will only benefit him, especially if he's required to do a job for the first-team."

Great so his plan is to keep him in the reserves until he learns to play in a position that is out of position for him. Unfortunately I can see us losing Pacheco before we loose Hodgson. .usual story

Coentrao's price just went up after scoring 2 goals in the Champions League overnight.

Probably cost up to 15m pounds.

Hi ed. sanchez is reportedly on his way to the swum in jan as a replacement for valencia in a £22m deal - source caughtoffside. so if roy is suppose to be intrested(he loved him at the world cup) then we ad beta move quick and give him assurances of 1st team football etc. .

also ed are we defiantly intrested in bringing the hulk and honda in jan cuz there seems to be intrest on quiet a few sites that we are guna be purchasing them for £18m/ £14m?

{Editor's NOte: There is zero chance of Sanchez joining Liverpool - it is never going to happen. As for Hulk, it seems to be a recent remour eminating from fans' wish lists - but you never know. Honda is interested in moving and could be available in January - but there might well be a lot of interest from elsewhere. Would, in my opinion, be a very good buy.}

Hodgson is a classic having a go at Benitez. Yes Rafa made mistakes but in his time he won the champions league, Fa Cup and we became a team feared across Europe. He brought us respect. He talks about signings. Rafa's first 2 were Alonso and Garcia Rh's were Koncheskey and Poulson.
Pacheco is not injured and will not get another look in. Same goes for Agger he is being frozen out.
If the board have any sense they will get rid of RH and give a new manager the transfer window in January.

Do you agree

* * * * * * * * * * * * *

Rafa's first 2 signings were Nunez and Josemi. Pacheco never got a look in under Rafa for years.

The torrent for the actual game was released today apparently. i'm still in the middle of downloading the game as i speak. i say give it till tomorrow and the download speed will be a lot faster than what it is now. i've been downloading it for 3 hours now and i've only managed 9%. You could probrably start another page and let people post their findings of young talent in the game or something to make your site even more cool with the fans. I've been trying to look for the gareth bale vid myself, and trust me, now after reading your comments about him and lennon, i think i'd do the same follow through punch to the face with G&H in one sweeping motion.

dirty ryder {ed's note - a talent spotter or scout page would probably be a good thing, I like the sound of that.}

To ed, not a fanatical user of twitter myself either mate, but i have the odd glance now and then! to access john henry you go on to twitter and type:
@john-w-henry {ed's note - thank you mate, I just can't see the fascination in it, I like to have a proper rant when I am not on here, you can't do that with such a small character limit. I have to keep it restrained on here.}

YNWA {ed's note - John Henry can be contacted on Twitter, he is very active on there mate, though I can't remember the name he uses on there as I don't actually use Twitter myself. They don't give you enough space to say what I would want, you can probably tell that from here mind!}

Oh by the way, this is just an early warning to all you guys. Expect the transfer rumours to get even more off key now that footy manager's coming out soon lol. infact. .let me start it off. .Liverpool will part exchange babbel and lucas for momo sissoko and cancel aquilani's loan contract and give poulsen a free transfer to make room for Lassana Diarra for 11 mil. Gerrard's leaving for 20 mil which will give us funds to buy Pazzini and have enough money for Ronaldinho's wages for the loan deal

oh by the way Ed, in terms of the transfer window, i don't think Woy would be getting much money to spend as i would think that most of the money will be saved for a new manager in the summer. i like to know your opinion on the transfer situation and regarding the manager speculation

cheers

dirty ryder {ed's note - it is due out on Friday isn't it? You will know where I am if I go quiet for a few weeks! I really don't know what will be happening in January, I am still being told that the players believe Roy is on his way. There is a belief that he is not having any real say in who is targeted, though he has made recommendations. I believe that NESV have been contacting possible candidates, one being Pellegrini, who was telling the truth when he said he had been in contact with the club over the job. But I think they were just getting someone near enough to be appointed if results hadn't picked up, I expect them now to get the board etc sorted before making an appointment. I just don't have a clue how long those kind of things take, never having had to choose and appoint a board of directors myself!}

Ed, if Roy disregards rafas signings (rightly so, not that rot has proven shrewd.) so much and thinks we have so much dead wood (which we do.) why does he still persist with rafas old head scout Eduardo Macia, maybe I'm missing something here. {ed's note - simple, Roy is talking out of the wrong end of his body. He is doing what all managers do - look to shift the blame for everything on to the previous regime. He will then expect lots of money to buy new players and claim it is not his fault the team are playing badly because he wasn't given the 500million pounds worth of players he asked for.}

If we read between the lines it seems that NESV are going to give roy a little time , how much i don't know?
todays meeting was the first of several between john henry; manager and staff, planned for the rest of the week, and john henry will be present at the napoli game.
do not worry about roy ( if he stays?) squandering transfer budgets in january, he will not be handed say 50 mil and be told there you go roy buy who you think, cc, swp etc, remember, his previous signings were made under the old owners rules, here's a bit & sell to buy.
nesv know that they have to spend money to get us back to the top, so new players will be suggested , and if they offer value for money, and after being assessed it is felt they will improve the squad, the money will be made available, they will not buy bad players for the team! and also expect players to be moved on who no longer fit team requirements.
its hard being patient, but lets give nesv time and support to sort this mess out.
things can only get better( and i'm sure over time they will see that roy is not up to thejob). . ynwa

{ed's note - I am not putting any more of these stupid comments up! Bale has made nasty abusive comments about the city, people and club, he is not fit to wear the shirt, end of!}

_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _

ed, what did he said about us? {ed's note - I have been trying to find the link to the vid to post for ages, it was pulled off youtube because of its contents, so that gives you an idea. It was him and Aaron Lennon, and, if I remember correctly, they were also slagging off Manchester and United. I don't really want to try and quote from it because I only got to see it once and it was a while ago. But the general gist of it was an attack on scousers, Liverpool the city and the club. They seem to think Liverpool is the armpit of the world, judging by the clip. If anyone could find me a link to the clip I will put it up straight away as I think all Liverpool fans should see it!}

{ed's note - it is beginning to look that way, putting together the rest of the staff is taking longer than I thought it would. I thought they would have already had people in mind, but it seems they have had to look for the right people now they are in place.}

well if that's the case then we maybe in big trouble. i watched both games on sunday and to see newcastle playing far better than we have all season nearly made me sick. being from the noth-east and almost surounded by newcastle fans saying "thats how to play against the mackems" gets boring after awhile.
and what really annoys me about roy, this so called 'mr nice guy' i have been waiting to hear abit of passion in his interviews and when it finally happens its directed at raffa and frank rijkaard. and yet when torres has been getting stick from every1 he hasnt got a word to say.

always a red

ps great site and taking the time to answear every1s questions no matter how insane lol.
always a red {ed's note - I really think Roy has made a complete mess of his comments and he is just letting everyone down - including himself - by attacking people like Rafa and refusing to defend his team. In fact he came in and commented about how poor a team he had to work with! What kind of response does he expect from players when he tells them they are useless? And if I hear him say once more that a point is a good result I will have a nervous breakdown! I can't take much more of his negativity, it is depressing.}
