Pelligrini been named Malaga manager. Looks like you missed a trick there Mr Henry, but whatever you do get Roy out after another shambles display. . I hate to think what would have happened if Stevie G hadnt come on. And Poulsen. . . the less about him the better!

Absolutely fantastic come back from the team, er, i mean, stevie g. too often has he had to do that. its getting ridiculous. definite message to henry, wide players please! 5 cm at 1 point. all credit to krgiakos, jovanovic and konchesky, 3 players who arent wanted by most fans, played. .better than most to be honest. eccelston, when he came on looked good, i thought. just what we need, a bit of confidence on the ball, cheeky stepovers in the box, a tricky, dangerous threat to goal. i do hope rh is gone come jan regardless of results. watching the team play is heart wrenching, we lack attacking flair in games up to now, can't win being defensive. something has to be done. based on that performance, chelsea will hammer us, just hope roy is as good a manager as he seems to think he is and pulls something out of the hat. .
believable: roy works his magic and we win by a couple
or
unbelievable: grandad roy is up to his usual tricks and we lose by at least 3

He's got a buateful mrs and messi isn't worth her right leg.

Ed, I believe Shelvey can step up but he nees to play in central midfield and not take up Pacheco's place behind the striker. (in these kind of games)
What do you think? Also how can we persuade Roy to play Johnson as a right midfielder? A petition?
RHI {ed's note - I did feel sorry for Shelvey tonight, he has no chance if he is not going to be given a chance in a position that suits him. He needs to play central, he needs a run of games as well, to give him a chance to settle in before he is judged. I don't think Roy will listen, he thinks he knows best and he will just hold up his past record as proof he knows what he is doing.}

To the person who posted this. .
Inter Milan boss Rafa Benitez hoping to shore up midfield with move for Liverpool's Lucas

Lucas if u need a lift mate il drive you to inter lad, anyone else agree, ?

got to say mate i disagree. I am not a biggest fan of lucas myself, but why would liverpool sell him off now after doing all the hard work with him so another team can benifit. i think lucas will improve alot more this season

Ed can u give me an e-mail address for john henry and a link to this site for him, plse we need to sack woy now wtf is he thinking? i thought that spearing and shelvey played ok tonite but poulson wat is he? seriously wat is he meant to be he can't tackle, defend pass, shoot, no pace where doe he fit in to our club. {ed's note - I can't find his email address, it was posted on here the other day as well! But his Twitter is: @john-w-henry - that might be better anyway.}

i thought lavezzi was ok tonight but didn't really rate any others in napoli and that tackle on ngog was shocking and uefa need to hand that thug a big ban

{ed's note - he (Roy) had probably spent the second half screaming at him (SG) to get back. . .}

Ed: I know how you feel about SG but you have to give credit when its due , he -Stevie- inspired the whole team and these 3 points are due to him
I agree with philosopher Pleat . Stevie need to do his business in the opponents half not ours.
Roy {ed's note - I fully agree, he was definitely the difference.}

Just watched ssn and hodgson is on his high horse:

" I am sick of people doubting my coaching ability, after tonights performance i think i have done enough to justify myself as manager of Liverpool Football Club. . . . . "

He is talking like he won the champions leage final! Get real Roy, the performance was poor. Say that after the Chelsea game. . I DARE YOU! !

Do we believe Roy or Not?

()()

04 Nov 2010 22:41:55
{ed's note - I really don't understand his reluctance to give Pacheco a chance, there is no injury keeping him out, it is a conscious decision by Roy to leave him out.}

I am starting to believe Mavinga had a point about Roy and English players.
Roy {ed's note - I think the Scandinavians might dispute that, especially a certain Mr. Poulsen.....}

()()

04 Nov 2010 22:23:07
Can i say why did he take Jovanovic off for Gerrard and not Poulsen who's crappy header was the reason for our goal.
But at least he changed it early with Gerrard and Eccleston.Which gave Gerrard time to work his unbelievable magic!
I also thought that Eccleston looked good when he relaxed more with good runs and i especially like the stepovers and cross that's the kind of play we need on the wings not Shelvey and Meireles ffs.
In also thought Ngogs hold up play was much better he just neeeds to be more clinical which will come and if he can become Stronger and better finisher he could become a really good player!
But Surely Comolli should look at that match and realise liverpool could do with buying Lavezzi cos if he was behind torres doing that and passes like that Torres would score loads.

Ed?

Liverpool looking at Hazard and Llorente!

ED

Roy Hodgson will never go if he keeps getting lucky freak results like tonight. Why is he so defensive?

Also - Did you notice Broughton sat next to Henrys missus and texting John Terry at same time?

What is the deal with playin Spearing? does anyone here actually think he is good enough when we won't give Pacheco a chance?

"PETER THE API NUNN"

YNWA * * * * * {ed's note - that is the way Hodgson sets out his team to play and always has, fine as a stop gap during the takeover but he is never going to take us anywhere but mid-table mediocrity.}

Sounds like ed is blowing a lot of steam about our bad performance. We were dire. We took of our only width with more cm's. I was kinda hoping we would lose so Roy would go. We have got so lucky. Didn't derserve to beat Bolton. Got lucky today. I know 4 5 defeats on the bounce is bound to happen soon with Roy. The longer he stays the worse we'll be long term. Anything else to add ed? {ed's note - I think you have summed it up very well, we don't seem to be showing any signs of improvement, that is what worries me. How much longer can we rely on Gerrard to rescue us?}

()()

04 Nov 2010 22:07:41
Who needs half time team talks when Gerrard ( and the rest of course ) puts that amount of effort and skill in - sort of ( in a lesser way perhaps ) similar to an Istanbul game in the way the players made it happen - not the manager.

But no doubt the Mail, Mirror and the toilet rag will try and make it a Roy inspired comeback.

I am as happy as anyone with tonights result, on the other hand everything had to rely on stevie gerrard. Defensive negative tactics again.
Why don't we go after lavazzi he was a constant thorn in our side. Even cavani caused problems.
Great win though, bring on chelsea.
What do you think ed?

Jamie {ed's note - great win? We were awful, we were lucky that their defence was a shambles or we would never have got the result. Hodgson did nothing to change things or make things better, his only idea was to throw more and more central midfielders on the pitch! We won't be so lucky against Chelsea.}

Is it not athletico bilbao mate {ed's note - he is right it is Athletic Bilbao, the club was started by Brits, hence the British spelling.}
* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *
Regardless, Atletico refers to Atletico (note absence of "h") Madrid. Athletic (note the "h") Bilbao is otherwise known as Bilbao - I live in Australia and even I know that. End of lesson - LIVERPRES

lol the guy never put atletico, , , he put athletico, , , so u jus take the o out there was nothing wrong with the h lol, , im sure the guy meant athletic bilbao he probably jus thought it was athletico, but he never said atletico so y u keep going on about atletico i don't know

Another disgraceful performance with us being saved by gerrard. roy plaese just get the f* * out our club. at times we played wid 5 central midfielders, wtf? shevley and spearing didn't play well either, eccelston showed glimpses of skill. all i no is roy needs to go and take his boyfriend christian poulsen wid him.

believable - we win on against chelsea
unbelieveable - we lose?

Hey I edit for the LFC site and over the next24-28 hours it will be revealed not so much as breaking news just as a factual confirmation that liverpool will make a conscious bid for Athletico hit man Fernando Llorente it is believed to be in the region of 25 million plus a player or a 30 million maximum. Liverpool and Hodgson are looking to get a cash + player deal involved as they do not feel the 36 million buy out clause is the correct decision. Expect this news soon
Onwards and upwards.

Athletic can only buy Basque players, currently Liverpool don't have any Basque players, we had Mikel San Jose, but he left to Athletic over the summer. If there was a bid for Llorente it would be a cash only deal, heres hoping !
Im sure the ed will back me up.
Liverbird {ed's note - Basques don't only come from Europe, there are big Basque communities around the world, is it possible any of our players has Basque heritage? If not, I fully agree with you, Bilbao will not take any of our players in part exchange, more's the pity!}"

I know a bloke who could forge Poulsen's passport for £50

Kezman was released today from his contract with PSG. No transfer fee, could be a decent bit of business and strengthens the attack. What do you reckon Ed? {ed's note - not good enough for me.}
Kezman said today that he doesn't want to play in europe anymore, he rejected a move back home to Partizan and said he wants to go to the middle east or America

Apparently we've made contact for Eden hazard? Don't think we should buy him personally, seems a bit to nani eseque, willing to do a trick or 2 with no end product, not direct enough, for the same price we could probably get Juan Mata, much better option in my opinion,

Plus why are so many people wanting of Mario Gomez?he's well known as the most expensive flop in German football history, I wouldn't pay over 10m for him as a 3rd backup striker at best.

Ed (s) who do you think are the most likely players to come in January and do you know of any we've been watching or been in contact with or about? {ed's note - I really wouldn't want to say right now, the whole scouting system is now in the hands of Comolli, he is likely to have his own ideas.}

Inter Milan boss Rafa Benitez hoping to shore up midfield with move for Liverpool's Lucas

Lucas if u need a lift mate il drive you to inter lad, anyone else agree, ?

- Have you actually watched any Liverpool games this season pal? Lucas has consistantly been the better of our players. He devleloping nicely into a great Midfielder, I suppose you were one of the numpties who boo'd him all last season? Watch this space. . Lucas will lighten up the Prem over the next few seasons.

I've got a season ticket for the paddock for the last 12 yrs and no is never boo a player, as much as he tries and he is good for Brazil, he won't make it physically in the epl, Italy would suit him, I think you have miss read my post meaning, I think it would be best all round for him to go, and we use the money from his sales trillionaire!

()()

04 Nov 2010 19:47:36
Ed, what's your opinion on mario gomez, on current form I would break the bank for him {ed's note - I would not buy a player just because he is on form. That is the time to avoid buying someone because their price is at its peak. I don't think he has done enough in the last few years to be worth buying unless it was on the cheap myself.}

()()

04 Nov 2010 19:29:36
After seeing the line up for tonight, I wouldn't blame Pacheco if he left in the summer. Not even on the bench. Shocking. When is he ever going to be given a chance?

()()

04 Nov 2010 19:25:40
36million euros for llorente? i don't know the exchange rate but id say that's at least about £30million? I like the lad alot , think hes a good player but is he worth spending £30million on? surely that would be the whole of nesvs supposed "budget" , also we spent roughly about £25m on fernando torres , i know that the players values are much higher now days but he aint worth more than el nino.

Belivable - if you think we should pay less than £30m

Unbelivable - if you think hes worth the £30m

()()

04 Nov 2010 19:25:14
Didn't he only just sign for Lyon in the summer? Can't see them selling him just yet!

()()

04 Nov 2010 19:16:09
Ed do you think benitez wants any of the current liverpool players at inter milan?
I think that if benitez comes calling for kuyt we should offer kuyt in a straight swap for coutinho or biabiani.
Also if maicon moves to madrid then we could offer johnson in a straight swap for either of the above.
Anyway apart from that i want us to sign afelly, coentrao and a striker in january but would settle for affely and a striker in jan!
striker would be anyone of llorente, lisandro or hulk!
also wat are peoples views on michael owen. .i think he is out of contract in the summer but i personally wouldn't want him back and would rather have suso, ngog or pacheco playing up front!
wat do ya think ed? {ed's note - do you really think we have a player good enough to get in the Inter team? By the way, if only Javier Zanetti was younger I would break the bank for him, that bloke is an incredible player, one of the top players in the world over the last ten years or so.}

()()

04 Nov 2010 19:12:36
Hugo Almeida's contract runs out in the Summer. Hello? 8 goals in 16 games, good friends with Meireles and cheap. Surely we couldn't resist an offer? I think he would be a great partner for Torres, or he has enough quality to play up front on his own when Torres is injured.

Do it Roy!

How's it going Ed and fellow Red's, We need wingers with pace and skill so bad that at the mo the opposition's full backs are having a field day we have enough midfielders at the club keep Lucas as he is showing signs that he will be a very good player for us he's not a holding midfielder and it shows with all the needless free kicks he gives away in dangerous positions, get rid of poulsen what a waster!
Still no Pacheo whats up Ed?
Mcgeady would have been a steal for 10 million and at Liverpool he would have improved no end just he's final ball lets him down we could have worked on that.

If this new geezer from spurs starts buying young players we never heard from I'll snap he should look at the young players already at the club and give them there chance to shine first.

A great performance and a win tonight please to get some confidence for Chelski on sunday.

Eric The Real Red
Y.N.W.A {ed's note - I really don't understand his reluctance to give Pacheco a chance, there is no injury keeping him out, it is a conscious decision by Roy to leave him out.}

This Daniel Cammoli appointment.

Anyone else think like me its a bit like deja vu with Evans and Houllier? Not that Cammoli would take charge of team matters but I wonder if the wheels are now in motion.

I never said he was completely Irish. He has Irish parents and since he played for Ireland, he's Irish in FIFA's books. And since FIFA dictate football, he'd have to be referred to as Irish.

I don't agree with your view personally, but I was only speaking in football terms. Hence the "technically".

Joan Capdevila's agent has confirmed that there is English interest in the Spanish international.

The 32-year-old is out-of-contract with Villarreal at the end of the season, and is free to talk to clubs in January.

I think liverpool should get him as he is an excellent attacking left back. Are Liverpool touted for him ed? Is he a player who would do well at Liverpool? {ed's note - we were connected with him while Rafa was in charge.}

Christian Poulsen is close to an exit from Anfield.
Liverpool have agreed a deal worth £7million with Airbus UK of the Welsh Premier League for the Dane.
Airbus will receive a large compensation package of £7million to take on the man they call the Danish Pelé on a part-time basis, filling in for the injured Dave the Butcher.

A further £13million will be used to pay off FIFA executives to make sure the deal goes through.

I think that we'll get 4 or 5 new players in January, with those who have proven they aren't good enough being sold.
INS
Blaise Matuidi + Dimitri Payet - Good relationship with Comolli, good talent, fit into JWH's criteria.
Keisuke Honda - Increases Liverpool FC's population in Asia, brings in more money.
Ryan Shawcross - He's young, English and a solid defender, much like a young JC.
Guillerme Hoarau - Not too happy with PSG, mainly his performances and every player has a price. A good enough striker to act as a backup to Nando.
Of course these signings would require some sales:
Dan Agger - RH doesn't like him, feels he's a bit of a crock and prefers both Skrtel and Soto over him.
Ryan Babel - Not a good man with the fans, get a decent return on him.
Possibly Lucas with fans not happy with him, but he is starting to win a few over.
May I also remind fans that Christian Poulsen CANNOT be sold! He's played for us and Juventus, 2 clubs. He can only be sold now back to Juventus or remove him from his contract, which would require a hefty compo package as he's 6 months into his contract, which is what, 4 years?
Anyway I think these transfers for Ashley Young, Fernando Llorente etc are pure fantasy. We have a rumoured £25m package for January and these 2 would cost £40m-ish for them both. The transfers above would come up to around £35m spent and £18m return.

Really can't believe what I've read but the Daily Mail is reporting that we are interested in Sean St Ledger of Preston. This would be a terrible signing. He's not exactly brilliant in the Championship, no way he could he make the step up to being a Liverpool player. He failed at Boro and although is consistent for Preston, he simply is not good enough. I hope this does not come to fruition. Another we are being linked with is Matuidi of St Etienne. Slightly less terrified by this rumour. Seem to remember Arsenal were very interested a few years back, not sure what stopped them making a move (any ideas?). Either way he's young, looked good the admittedly few times I've seen him and would hopefully get Poulsen on his way. £7m was the quoted price.

Why do we need Comolli, we could have saved a fortune and hired you instead, or even cheaper still bought a copy of Football Manager for approx £40

Easy this scouting lark. . .

Where's my contract? also I don't play Football Manager. .if you watch any French football, it becomes obvious which ones could have the talent to be of use to us.
A lot of people talk about Comolli "discovering" Gareth Bale, lets be honest I think everyone in the country knew who he was when he was a Southampton - he just managed to persuade him Tottenham was the place to be.
Just a thought from the past, Alou Diarra, who Houllier signed on a free, a player who never got a game for us and was continually loaned out, is now 29 and captain of France

Here we go again if the press are to be believed, Hodgson chasing 2nd rate players, from English teams, Pavlachenko?, Cole, SWP, Ashley Young, players that cannot even get regular starts for there present teams, now Sean StLegar, from Preston.

Gone are the days when Liverpool or any team would look to the lower leagues and find diamonds, agents and academies have ensured the best players are channeled at early ages to the best teams.

Hodgson may be a nice man, but he lacks ambition, and courage, he talks rubbish i.e. "Our display against Everton was the best we have played this season"

Talk about blind!

He slags Rafa and by association his signings off, saying they are not good enough, well those players finished 5 places, and 17 points above Hodgsons Fulham team last year. Not a great way to motivate your team! !

Lastly he is NOT A WINNER, he has won nothing in football in any major league, by that I mean England, Italy, Spain, Germany or France. I don't see Sweden or Denmark as major leagues.

Its simple he is not good enough, and he should be replaced by someone alot better, someone who will attract top players not 2nd rate ones.

And to this end the rumour doing the rounds in is that Gus Hiddink is being lined up sooner rather than later

##(Ed: Ref my comment "A little worried about Commoli's appointment. Not with Roy in charge as it will keep his POulsen type targets under wraps, but with finding a new manager. I hope his involvement is purely identifying talent and not selecting transfers. What top class manager would want to work under those conditions?
My main point is that we have to start integrating the kids into the team (Suso, Pacheco, Shelvey, etc etc) but they have to be integrated into a strong team. These kids need to play with the likes of Gerrard and Torres etc to develop, otherwise its just another reserve team run out.
Ed what do you think? {ed's note - I don't think it matters who they play with, it is more about who they play against. You learn more from playing against the best than you do by playing with them.}"

I disagree as i believe its a combination of the two. Fowler admits he learnt so much from playing alongside Rush for example (his movement, tiing, positioning etc) He wouldn't have picked that up alongside Baros regardless of who its against. I do agree with you that they need to play against good opposition but its more important that they play alongside great players they can learn off. Very few players have a natural talent, they have to learn and be nurtured. {ed's note - what I was meaning is that it doesn't matter if you are playing alongside great players but the matches are uncompetitive friendlies.})##

I think we half agree with each other in the sense that the young players need to play with the best we have (rotate the best 11 to include a youngster or 2 now and again) but also needs to be done against good opposition, competitively. We are on the same wavelength but said it in different ways!
Great site by the way, i check in every day {ed's note - cheers mate, yeah I do think we meant the same thing, you just explained it better than me!}

Graet debate guys no one is wrong i think it is time we stopped pussy footing around with our youngsters and give them ago we didn't hold Fowler nor Owen back like this so why are we doing it with the likes of Pacheco, Amoo, Eccleston and especialy Shelvey! the bloke was playing regular first team football for Charlton for gods sake and we are only just staring to stick him on the bench to bring him on on the 87th minute against Blackburn! What must he be thinking when he see's the likes of Poulsen Lucas and dare i say Meireles?! Continuously unimpress in the middle of the park? yes he will probably get a game tonight but probably alongside Lucas or Poulsen or even worse Both! I know we have Chelsea on Sunday but how great would it be to see how good this boy really is tonight by sticking him alonside Gerrard for the first 45 minutes on one of thos famous europeon nights at Anfield and see how he rises to the challange? But hey no mater what happens tonight say Shelvey does start alongside Gerrard and sets him up for a goal or vice versa we all know Roy won't show the faith in him and play him against Chelsea on sunday! he'll just be another youngster with bags of potential to warm our bench ready for when poulsen's 31 year old legs have had enough on the 87th minute! !

Opinions! spurs fans were not looking to crucify, he was just very poor at his job, frank arnesen did all the good work which comolli undone, wenger is very diplomatic and would not create a nagativaty regarding former staff. the fa ct being that a lot of liv fans are blinded by his role just becau se he is at liverpool does not mean he is good at his job! he i s very poor! wasting funds and by-passing talent, if a scout found the new gerrard he would and will pass it over as his was not his find? these supporting him will doubt see sense! we as a club were in the right hands and moving forward! he froze our club and moved it backwards and since he has moved on we have again moved forward! be afraid be very very afraid with comolli"

If he was so poor, then why did Redknapp decide to re-sign Kaboul, Prince-Boateng go to Milan and Bent become a gaol machine? And where were the calls for Levy's head when the Berbatov saga became a soap opera and Comolli had been cut out of the transfer dealings? I'm sorry but in my opinion Comolli carried the can, which is not unreasonable given he staked his reputation on Ramos, but there were many commentators, particularly from Spain, who believed Spurs had nabbed the best coach in Europe at the time. No one could have foreseen just how at odds he would be with the English game.

ok then that's a fair point. wot wud be ur stating 11 with the players we got now? and wot wud ur stating 11 be in the summer 2011 but with 4 new players that are possilebilities ? {ed's note - with the players we have and with any we buy the goalie will still be Reina, but the players we have 11 would be: Reina, rb: Kelly, cb: Wilson (Ayala if he wasn't on loan), cb: Agger lb: Konchesky (would prefer Mavinga but I wouldn't want too many youngsters in at once) mf: Meireles mf: Gerrard mf: Cole/Lucas fw: Pacheco fw: Torres fw: Kuyt. With 4 new players, I would change the left back, a new one has to be priority, probably Taiwo as his contract is running out. I would get Afellay and Honda and Llorente as the other 3. Honda would replce Cole/Lucas, Afellay would replace Pacheco and Llorente instead of Kuyt. Both teams give a lot of flexibility and the ability to change shape during a game to exploit the opposition's weaknesses.}

Radio Cadena in Spain is reporting that Liverpool are considering making a move for Athletic Bilbao and Spain striker Fernando Llorente. The 25 year old has scored six goals in nine appearances this season, and his performances for Spain have really caught the eye of Europe's top clubs. Both Manchester United and Manchester City are also believed to be interested in the player but according to the radio station, Liverpool are believed to be the front runners. It remains to be seen though whether Liverpool can break the bank for the player as his buyout clause is €36million; a fee that Radio Cadena feel could well be matched by Liverpool with their new American owners.

Im pretty certain with Commolli coming in, we'll be looking at a few Ligue 1 players in the next transfer window. If this is the case, here's a few players who could do well for us.
Dimitri Payet, 23 - St. Etienne, an attacking player who has recently broke into the full French squad.
Blaise Matuidi, 23 - St. Etienne - central midfielder with real ability
Eden Hazard, 19 - Lille, showed against us in Europa real ability and a constant threat.
Moussa Sissoko, 21 - Toulouse, versatile central midfielder - in the Patrick Viera mould (Dominant Arsenal days, not money grabbing Man City ones).
Mamadou Sakho, 20 - PSG. Centre Back/ Left Back. Been in the PSG team since he was 17, even captaining them. Called up into France squad recently - in the Thuram mould- big, strong, athletic and very good defender
Lisandro Lopez, 27 - Lyon. Been linked with us in the press - a very good player - capable of playing up front or on the wings. Proven goal scorer at Porto and Lyon - and put in a very good performance against us last season in UCL.
Valter Birsa, 24 - Auxerre, out of contract in Summer, sweet left-foot - impressed me with Slovenia at World Cup.
Taye Taiwo, 25, L'OM, quality left back

Why do we need Comolli, we could have saved a fortune and hired you instead, or even cheaper still bought a copy of Football Manager for approx £40

Easy this scouting lark. . .

Opinions! spurs fans were not looking to crucify, he was just very poor at his job, frank arnesen did all the good work which comolli undone, wenger is very diplomatic and would not create a nagativaty regarding former staff. the fa ct being that a lot of liv fans are blinded by his role just becau se he is at liverpool does not mean he is good at his job! he i s very poor! wasting funds and by-passing talent, if a scout found the new gerrard he would and will pass it over as his was not his find? these supporting him will doubt see sense! we as a club were in the right hands and moving forward! he froze our club and moved it backwards and since he has moved on we have again moved forward! be afraid be very very afraid with comolli

Great site by the way, i check in every day {ed's note - cheers mate, yeah I do think we meant the same thing, you just explained it better than me!}

Ed, do you think we should go for a player like Giovani dos Santos? He's only 21 and impressed me when he was playing for Mexico at the World Cup, he's never really got a look in at Spurs, i personally think he's a quality player.
Rocky {ed's note - loads of ability but he has an attitude problem and likes to spend the night before a match out on the lash. Redknapp even said that he wished he could pass a club like he can a ball. So no, not for me, we need players who are going to be professional right now.}

Must've picked that up from when he played with Ronaldinho at Barca. . But would you take him if we got him for £5m? I think on a bad day he's better than Babel and Maxi put together {ed's note - much better player but we already have enough players with a poor attitude.}

Whatever happens in january, the long term plan it build a 'talent factory', buying in cheap unknown but class players from all over the world, developing them, and then selling them on a year or two later for a few million quid- and in some case a lot more than that.
Comolli's previous talent scouting and development operation actually funded the whole transfer budget in one or two seasons, according to one site I saw.
NESV see this as a profit making area- lets just hope they remember to hang on to the best players.

Ive been speaking to allot of hardcore spurs fans. .
and they all hate camolli, the general consensus is that frank Arneson was responsible for the quality of youth at the club.
Once Arneson left it all fell apart. . arsenal fans thinks he's awful too. . he was sacked from both. no one else a little worried?

just because he worked at arsenal during successful periods, doesn't mean he was responsible. and spurs were terrible while he was there and he almost turned them into a selling club like ajax.

this is not the positive appointment everyone is making it out to be. if it was talismatic leader like klinsman of cryuff (maybe kenny if he got the chance), they would help the way the club develops, plays and trains its youth.
Camolli is a glorified scout. . it wasnt real madrid who picked him up after spurs, it was Saint-Étienne.

cant really see the positives myself other than maybe curbing roys spending on average players, im not saying its a disaster. . but the idea that he found gareth bale is just silly, its not how football clubs function. he will only coordinate scouting, and search for tips through his connections.

its my first post, i felt like some one needed to bring it up!

opinions? ?"

I'd disregard the Spurs fans' opinions as they simply needed someone to crucify when they failed to set the league alight under Ramos. Some even claim Comolli was responsible for Jol going and happily ignore Levy's role in it all, still praising him as a genius of the game bizarrely. They needed someone to sack and Levy was never going to take any of the blame.

Wenger still rates him highly and that's good enough praise for me to accept that he may have an eye for spotting talent.

I have watched Shikalaba live (not youtube) many times and i can tell you for a fact he is NO Ryan "usless" Babel! He is absolutely brilliant at taking on players, and knows where the goal is with a powerful shot. Anderleicht have offered 5 million Euros for him but Zamalek refused cause they know he is worth a hell of a lot more. They have recruited a european agency to handle his transfers. If we can just have someone from our scouting department take a look at him, they will see huge talent in this kid.

But apparently Comolli has a few ideas on players he think would be great young buys : Hazard, Shaquiri and C.Rodriguez, Muniain, Cazorla, Payet and Nilmar.

Santi Cazorla is 26 wouldn't call that young. Nilmar is 26.

Saint-Etienne are braced for bid from Liverpool for their captain Blaise Matuidi following Damien Comolli's appointment at Anfield.

Comolli, who will shape the Reds' transfer policy after being appointed as director of football strategy, rates the tough-tackling France midfielder very highly.

Along with Arsenal, Liverpool were already tracking the £7million-rated 23-year-old, but Comolli's arrival from Saint-Etienne gives them the upper hand in prising one of France's most promising prospects from Ligue 1.

Liverpool boss Roy Hodgson is ready to break the bank to sign Athletic Bilbao striker Fernando Llorente.

Llorente has emerged this season as Spain's prime striker ahead of Fernando Torres and Barcelona's David Villa.

Manchester United and Manchester City have been linked with Llorente in recent weeks.

However, Radio Cadena Ser says Hodgson, armed with cash from new club owners NESV, is willing to meet Llorente's €36 million buyout clause to bring the striker to Merseyside in January.

Just a quick line abiout this 'next manager English' thing that's surfaced. You need to remember that we are dealing with Americans and they do not have the same concept of England, Wales, Scotland, Northern Ireland that we do. To them it's all 'England'. So for 'English' read the word British instead. (just hope they don't mean Martin O'Neill)

Just read we're monitoring Sean St Ledger from Preston. (ED is this true?)
I also support Rep Ireland and can honestly say he shouldn't be in Irelands 11 never mind Liverpool's. He's not even an average player. Positional sense and decision making is very poor and I can pass a ball better than him (no exaggeration).
We're in big trouble if we continue to look at second rate players. The trouble is, I believe Roy would sign him (on the basis of Konchesky, Poulson and Jones). The worst liverpool back four for many a year could get worse. Unthinkable.
I thought we were looking as if we were going to get out of the woods with the new owners, but if they let Roy stay we're finished.
I'll still support LFC for the rest of my life, but always looking back in time with envy.

The eds must be hating having to comment on silly posts/ questions about potential siginings when Comolli has just been appointed! Wake up LFC fans this is not fantasy football. You cannot simply pull names from a hat and hope to sign them. Apart from the fact that NESV may now have some sort of finance available to buy some players, don't forget that the past 3 years has severely tarnished LFC's reputation so players are not as keen to flock to Merseyside as they might have been in years past.
At this stage let's just hope we can attract 3 or 4 (if that) solid players in Jan to sure up those areas we need cover.

If i could have one player for Liverpool in the Jan window = Ibrahim Afellay. Creativity we lack

On another not, to all those people criticizing the LFC fans for heaping praise on Lucas and Maxi lately, saying that we are fickle becuz we were not behind them before. I just want you to think for a second. Imagine how they must feel now, when they are acknowledged for their good work, their confidence is just going to sore and we will begin to see the best of them. If all those at Anfield could give a shout & applause, the first time Lucas and Maxi touch the ball on Sunday against Chelsea, just imagine how much they will lift their game.
Most of us aren't happy with Roy (I am one of them), but for those 90 minutes on Sunday, lets get behind the team as a whole. . Any thoughts Ed? {ed's note - the crowd at Bolton were fantastic, that had to have helped the team.}

My main point is that we have to start integrating the kids into the team (Suso, Pacheco, Shelvey, etc etc) but they have to be integrated into a strong team. These kids need to play with the likes of Gerrard and Torres etc to develop, otherwise its just another reserve team run out.
Ed what do you think? {ed's note - I don't think it matters who they play with, it is more about who they play against. You learn more from playing against the best than you do by playing with them.}

If the below is true and Woy's idea. Then get the f*@k out of our club NOW!

Story in The Daily Mail. The paper reports that Villa are 'set to rival Liverpool in a bid for Preston defender Sean St Ledger'.

When did Bale apparently say this? There doesn't seem to be any record of it anywhere, wasit not Lennon who said this before? Ed you hear about this at all? {ed's note - there was a video clip on youtube, but it was pulled and I have yet to see it back up, it was Lennon and Bale together.}

Hey ed. Did you know that KING KENNY has more medals than Roy Hodgson has away premier league victories.
To fact: LFC to sign Wickham for £5m after the player met Roy and Kenny yesterday. The fee rising to £10m depending on the future development of the player. The player will complete the move on 1st Jan 2011 if all goes well. I know tottenham's bid of £8m was rejected but the player is very keen on joining LFC as he is an LFC fan hence a move was made.

On Spanish football 2nite GB said " Pellegrini was in London last week speaking to Liverpool who were said to not be interested due to him being foreign " He will no be appointed Malaga boss in a few days. .He never gets things wrong in spain so i think we can kiss goodbye to him guys. . .If we are said to be going english maybe King kenny is convincing nesv?

Any self respecting Liverpool fan would no that Kenny Dalglish is in fact Scottish! And why would we be interviewing other candidates if the one they want is sat within the club. Please go on wikipedia and read the Liverpool FC page. You may learn something

Before hodgson was appointed, i said that Ronald Koeman would become coach and bring Affelay with him. To be honest I pulled that out of my ar*e.

But yesterday someone mentioned Damien comolli joining before he did. . so I'm just happy that even if 9 out of 10 posts on this site are rubbish, there are some truthful ones.

Damien Comolli's job role at Liverpool will be to front the scouting department and will be in charge of player recruitment (transfer negotiations, contract negotiations.)

He will head a new overhauled scouting system along with current scouts. All players will be technically analysed and discussed on a regular basis with Hodgson, Lee and Mike Kelly. Hodgson will still have ultimate control over team selection and transfers though.

{ed's note - I haven't heard anything about the stadium yet, I doubt NESV have even begun to sort that out yet. I think Sterling is a couple of years away yet but Suso is very close, that lad is a bit special.}

Ed I agree. I have seen Suso play several times and not once has he had a bad game. Links the midfield and the attack well, rather like a certain Mr Dalglish used to do. I think he needs to start appearing on the first team bench as we do not want to lose our top youngsters, and contrary to what Roy states, we have a good crop coming through who play better football than the first team at the moment.

The future's bright, the future's RED

Is it just me that people are raving about Bale for what hes done to inter but when i watched they where just stupid the fell for the smae run twice and the same shot 3 times, it shows you don't need great skill just speed and the defenders he beat at inter were old like zanetti and lucio, hes easy to defend against like Rafael showed.

But apparently Comolli has a few ideas on players he think would be great young buys : Hazard, Shaquiri and C.Rodriguez, Muniain, Cazorla, Payet and Nilmar.

Ed, if you had to choose between rafa and roy in charge until a new manager comes in, who would you choose? I think roy is useless. When he first got here i thought he'd be giving the youngsters a chance like he did in pre-season and that he'd be getting the best out of all our players and buying at least a half decent striker, but he has done none of the above. To be honest i think he's made things worse for the team with his negative comments in the media, he hasnt backed our players up, he's not playing agger because he (quite rightly) questions the type of football roy plays. There are so many other things i want to mention eg. his tactics etc. Roy has just proven to be a more pathetic version of rafa. Im not saying rafa is a good manager, but he would be a better option than roy i think.
Red bl00ded! {ed's note - I would take Rafa over Roy, and I don't want Rafa back either, it is the lesser of two evils. Roy is seemingly intent on saying all the wrong things and doing all the wrong things.}

Hey everyone, first time poster, (by the way, great sight Ed!). I'm Egyptian and watch alot of the Egyptian league and let me tell you there are some very talented Egyptians in that league. Its no surprise that we wone the Afrian nationas cup three times in a row beating off the likes of Cameroon, Cote devoir, Ghana and others in the process, and that's mainly as a result of the local lads rather than the ones we have based in Europe.
Anyways, we have a star playing for Zamalek (currently leaders of the egyptian league) his name is Mamoud abdul Razik (nicknamed Shikabala). he's extremely talented, can pass through players, best position is as a second striker, or on either flank. He's left footed and has a hell of a shot on him. He terrorises defenses with his speed and dribbling skills. I would certainly love to see him in a Liverpool shirt, only problem is, how on earth can i get Hodgson to take a look at him before he gets snatched up by some other club in Europe, and beleive me when i say this. .he will!

ARDA TURAN - Player with heart, beautiful technique on the left, right and through the middle. Very good first touch with the pass and the booming shot from anywhere. 15 million pounds well worth it! and. . . . . . he's expressed his LOVE FOR LFC! That should say it all!

For me, and I mean no disrespect to Tranmere in saying it, his first remark alone should bar him from ever being welcomed as a player or in any other footballing capacity at Liverpool, and doubly so for insulting the town itself.
To be fair, people do joke around when a camera is on them somtimes, and he may not have meant it too seriously, or as badly as it sounds when you read it, but he was clearly being very cocky because Spurs were playing well and him too, and LFC were on a bad losing streak.
But joking or not, he was kicking the team while it was down, and he had no need to insult the city too.
Sadly for Mr Bale, the class of LFC will eventually come through, and we will back in our rightful place, and kicking him and his team's arses all over the park, home and away.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

You know when people like Boris Johnson say we are a city of self pity? Well I think its reactions like this whenever someone takes the piss that live up to that image, and make Scousers a joke in others eyes. Why for the love of God can't we just take it on the chin? (With the almighty exception of The S* newspaper, )"

You make a fair point, and we shouldnt overreact to insults, as it does just play into the hands of the city's detractors.
I think what wound me up was that he insulted both the club AND the people of the city one go. One or the other I'd probably take on the chin, as we usually do.
But fair point- and the main thing is that he was wrong on both counts.

The appointment of Damien Comolli is either a sign that NESV do not have a lot of faith in roy's ability in the transfer market or, its because he has been hired before the new management decision has been finalised so he can give his own opinion of NESV's selected candedates! i don't know who, probably nobody any of us have thought of, but i expect a radical thinker with a track record of winning, and roy will be history soon.
