Hi eds, do ye think that Lacazette could be an option on the summer? Cheers.

{Ed002's Note - No.}

Just curious eds not necessarily on how lfc will be set up (you can't predict the future, I think. ) but have mentioned a re-structure and posters have commented about director of football or rodgers as head coach etc.

Just curious about first how for example Ajax manages itself (not that we'd copy them) and how their relationship between their DOF and manager works compared to example dortmund? Bit of a moot point as think BR is great at developing and coaching players but game tactics, handling media and transfers seems to be his weak point. But can't see him accepting a coaching role (which is sad as think it would improve him as a manager but at the same end is a demotion so fair play).

Basically I along with other posters mentioned de boer as a 'realistic replacement' potential replacement but thinking do have worries as to if he'd do better. Has done well in their league but manages a club which should win every season, but from what u remember hasn't done anything in Europe. Which makes me worry as that hints a bit about tactics and ability to compete against better teams. Where dortmund have got to a CL title and won against a team which should win the title every season.

Sorry if not a clear question and to post it on Easter Sunday, but appreciate all the work you put into the site and is very interesting as is the most reliable source for not just transfers but finding info on how clubs, managers etc work. All in all enjoy Easter and thanks in advance!

{Ed002's Note - I really don't know what you expect about comparing the ways Ajax and Dortmund operate. Both clubs have someone in that role (Overmars and Zorc) and both have responsibilities that go well beyond the first team (responsibilities for overseeing youth teams, reserve teams, scouting etc.). Zorc tends to regularly talk with the press, whereas Overmars doesn't. Overmars has to periodically deal with the rants of a slightly confused old man whereas Zorc doesn't. Both will have good relationships with their managers but do not interefere with the first team to any great extent - so not dissimilar. I am not so sure why there is such an obsession with a DOF by Liverpool fans. In many cases such roles are not even visible to the fans (at Chelsea or Manchester City for example).

I would not worry about de Boer failing as a Liverpool manager too much just yet.}

Cheers for the response and sorry wasn't a well formed question! Basically kept reading on the site about DOF and you explaining it isn't that obvious, but from what I've read (Tbf online) Ajax have one and may be wrong.

Basic curiosity was just to do with how successful clubs tend to operate. Imagine is dependent on who's in control but for example rodgers seems to be good at improving players but in game tactics, transfers, media etc he seems to struggle. Remember hearing that one of Sir Alex Fergusons greatest stengths was getting in people to do what he couldn't.

So was curious about roles or structure of clubs like dortmund (who seem to do well dispute not being financial equal with their rivals) and Ajax simply as rumours/hype linking us with their manager or United under Sir Alex. Will inevitably vary Ferguson was a great manager but was he responsible for transfer, coaching, youth players, tactics, stc or did he have advisors to help and how does that compare with other clubs (barca, bayern, dortmund, Athletico, etc)?

Again apologies if vague/obscure but tried my best to re-word!

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - Dortmund are in a pretty much similar position to Liverpool financially in terms of income. Managers deal with the first team pretty much exclusively and are responsible for tactics - there will be input from other coaches as required. The structure of clubs vary depending on size, that country's approach to coaching income etc.. Try asking Ed001 if you see him.}

Also sorry last post may be vague or broad and answering is a bit difficult as the nature of the ill worded question probably is. Can you recommend any good sources or books on how successful (ideally recent clubs) operate?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - Paul Hughes of Durham University spoke to many EPL clubs when he was at Loughborough University . You should be able to dig out his paper. Ex Liverpool manager Gérard Houllier has studied all aspects of the game and has worked for Ploufragan and Clairefontaine on the tactical approach to coaching and on the business aspects of the game with organizations from different domains. You might find something out there from him.}

Hi eds,

Reports today suggesting that Liverpool are interested to get Falcao on a loan deal in the summer. Do you think we have any chance of getting him?

Believable0 Unbelievable10

{Ed002's Note - Monaco want to sell Falcao. His wages would be crippling for Liverpool. Strikes me as unlikely.}

Question for ed001 please,

Do you know of the club would be willing to give Roy Evans a shot? Played great football under him and he was very restricted by our budget back then, I imagine these days he might do a lot better.

{Ed001's Note - sorry mate, he won't be choice. Would be interesting to see what he could do with a DoF above him who actually gets players he needs and a decent budget, but it won't be happening.}

Loved how we played (mostly) under Evans, and he has always seemed like a true gentleman.
But wasn't that a result of many years of schooling young kids, and having an established winning "Liverpool way" ?

Seems to me that long term planning required for those glory days, doesn't stand much of a chance. Develop young players and they seem to be snatched up (We are guilty of that too)

Sounding cynical, but money money money will be what will get you there.

Ed I was going to ask if there are any updates or progress on Ings or Milner? But Suppose with our Manager position in question, new players in are not priority are they.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - Whilst Liverpool remain keen on both players the situation remains pretty much unchanged.

Liverpool, Aston Villa, Leicester, Real Sociedad and Newcastle all have shown an interest in Danny Ings. Surprisingly, rumours of Manchester United and Manchester City interest in Danny Ings are true as well. My expectation that he will join Liverpool in the summer is wobbling a bit right now.

Manchester City were looking for James Milner to agree a new contract but they accepted that he won't. There is interest from Valencia (although I think they have now moved on), Roma (with rekindled interest), Inter and from Liverpool - his wage demands might be an issue.}

Cheers for reply Ed, will both players come without champions league then?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - I really don't know.}

Hi eds, I was just wondering what the situation is with Blanc I know before the PSG Chelsea game there was talks of him being sacked could be possibly be looked at in the summer if Liverpool get rid of Rodgers? I know it's difficult with possibles etc but is there any other managers you expect to be available and Liverpool could look to if Rodgers is sacked

Believable2 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - It is fair to say that an alternative to Blanc was being considered by PSG but he is no longer available. It is also fair to say that there was a third party looking to see if a deal could have been brokered with Liverpool for him. That however is a while back and long before Liverpool began to improve. Right now I would not want to speculate too much Alex.}

05 Apr 2015 11:48:36
Cheers for the response. From what I've seen he's always done a good job but obviously PSG is much like Man City in England and they're expected to win everything every year.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - I suspect there will also be a job available at Manchester City come the summer.}

05 Apr 2015 14:00:40
No surprise there from City. If possible do you know of any other managers available for the summer who are well respected like Blanc or up and coming managers obviously its hard to speculate however knowledge of managers is something that is difficult outside of the Premier league without watching each league thoroughly

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - There are a number of managers across Europe who will be moving this summer. Much depends on what happens with certain jobs and at certain clubs. It will become clearer in the coming months.}

Eds, would the potential arrival DoF and, with the way things are heading, manager, severely alter our current targets for the summer transfer window, or would the interest in place for most targets be sustained regardless of changes in staff?

Believable0 Unbelievable1

{Ed001's Note - impossible to say until one is chosen.}
