To put an end to any rumours of fattened bent signing for Liverpool, I just spoke to Steve Clark over dinner and he told me that bent was dismissed as a target by Dc in November when Liverpool were already making plans. He also said. There will be no signings in DM and that Mr Henry has promised a fund of £20M BUT ONLY IF THE RIGHT PLAYERS CAN BE FOUND. Also expect the club to reduce the wage bill before any movement is made to bring players in. Suarez has met with KK and told him he is commited to Liverpool fc, so let's put an end to that rumor. The final thing SC said before he left was that Andy's Carroll has been put on a new fitness regime last week and is already showing signs of improved fitness. So guys give him a chance what happend to the famous YNWA attitude???

Hi eds. J.Rhodes just played a blinder for huddersfield. Commentater said there were 8 premeir league scouts at the match. Was any from liverpool by any chance? Liverpool are tired of Reports that they wont spend this january and they need a right midfeilder. I heard from my source that Jesus Navas is at the top of liverpools list. Also the Darren Bent switch will come in the summer when we can put in a serious offer for the player.

I realy hope Bent does not come to liverpool. I would rather Demba ba. Bent was crap at spurs and would be much the same at liverpool.

Why would Liverpool care about reports they are not signing anyone? not only that, it would actually help stop people bumping the price because we are definite buyers. Seriously, the very small number of people involved at Anfield on transfers will not care what others say and will only realise a rumour if it is to tease out a player's interest without breaching rules.

Hi ed you said we are interested in a midfielder. Is it a winger or attacking mid like silva or ozil. I think we need both but which are we looking at this window and who? {Ed001's Note - both, we are looking at right wingers and central mids, but, until a move is made, it is impossible to say for sure which we will go for. Personally I think right mid is priority.}

I personally think we will sign the most talented player avialable to us whether it be attacking midfielder or wide player. We need quality.

right just to clear things up. i spoken to jay spearing yesterday about transfers, this is what he told me;

darren bent - he said lpool will NOT sign bent. i mentioned torres and yes he did laugh and said the boys have been laughing about this in training.

he said liverpool have an INTEREST, so this doesnt mean are gonna sign the list of players below ok;

kagawa - will defo make a bid this weekend. listen out.

hoilett - he did say its between lpool and spurs, with spurs having the upper hand.

defoe - he mentioned lpool will try to get on loan during next week, so listen out for this.

soldado - he said lpool are interested but are not willing to pay 25 mill +, so will see what happens on this 1.

was also told that lpool will not get a DM even though lucas is out.

and lastly people he told me that liverpool have not fully drawn up there list of targets and are working day by day, so i will call him on monday and will be back. and i do also know that alot of people here would doubt if the obvious is gonna happen so please go ahead and click on unbelieveable.

Mate i used to work at Man City (when stuart pearce was manager) and I'll have you know that the players have aren't told who is going to be signed and they definitely aren't "in the know" about potential buys!

The only players who would be told of potential transfers are:

1: The captain and vice captains
2: Senior players

Kam {Ed001's Note - not so much their paths crossing in a bad way, just that he saw how Bent struggled to adapt to being one member of a team, rather than the focal point of it. As for De Jong, it looks likely now that he will finish the season at Twente, which was always how Liverpool would prefer it, it was only if it looked like he was moving we were likely to jump for him in January.}

While we are interested in Bent I don't believe the transfer will take place, high fee and high wages for a risky gamble. We don't want another Andy Carroll situation. Luuk De Jong is very much a Summer target and Comolli has been given reassurances that the player wants to move to Anfield. There is also interest in Siem De Jong his brother. January targets include a loan option for Zarate and there is strong interest in Boudebouz of Sochaux. The club are also monitoring Kevin Strootman and maintain a serious interest.

ed why is it that no clubs have bid for hoillet yet ? he only has 6months or so left on his contract so and blackburn announced they would listen to offers , he would be a great buy ! {Ed001's Note - Spurs have spoken to Rovers, as have Stoke and Villa are showing interest.}

Listen all, for £6-8m we should be interested he has pace and a decent cross which we badly miss

I think it would be a real shame if we miss out on him, he isn't the most consistent but he's dangerous and young and would be a cheap enough option that we wouldn't feel obliged to start him every game

Junior hoilett a possiblity... Being mentioned everywhere at the moment

I watched Blackburn V bolton before Xmas...Hoilett has pace to burn. Blackburn are resigned to losing him. Could be worth a punt.

Good player, but he won't become a long term premier league star but still an improvement on what we have in terms of right sided wingers.

Heard that the two most likely/realistic targets this January are Luuk De Jong and Gaston Ramirez, with the latter looking more difficult to sign this month. Any news on this? And also, have Liverpool enquired about Hoillet yet? Think he would be a decent signing for a cheap price. Thanks. YNWA

Apparently gaston ramirez's agent said he didn't want to move to liverpool. Also, luuk de jong's dad said de Jong is staying in twente unfortunately. Hopefully I am wrong!

Liverpool have inquired about Bent and a number of striker targets, however they will evaluate the interest next week. There is even a possibility of a swap of Carroll with Defoe plus cash for another striker.
Dalglish is a fan of Carroll but is not convinced he will get the type of service with Luis's game. The main attribute they want is goals and that is why Bent is being mentioned.
Strong rumours today from a source working for a first team player that Liverpool have agreed to AV's demands with a starting fee of 16m plus add-ons.
Expect Defoe and Bent to be mentioned next week heavily, Dalglish knows Redknapp likes Carroll, and Bent has set his heart on an Anfield move.

hey big news guys, two big names coming in, xabi alonso and pato, also heard that we will be buying a experinced d.fensive midfilder, to fill lucas place till end of the sason with possibilty of doing some coaching wt u think eds {Ed002's Note - Pato will probably go to PSG. It is not anything new and there has been no interest from Liverpool - and he is way beyond what teh club could afford. Alonso, not right now - perhaps on a free before he retires. Dalglish said no replacement would be brought in for Lucas.}

Ed002 i have asked tis several times and got no answer, you have on several occasions made statements on what Liverpool can and cannot afford. have you been told specifically what our spending limits are or is it just a guess? {Ed002's Note - Liverpool's owners will give reasonable financial support for transfers but it is costing them a lot of money to run the club. There is no guesswork here. They are not in the position to be spending £50M on Cavani or £40M on Higuain or Hazzard. If a "major" name is to arrive over the January window for anything like that sort of money the majority of the money will be recouped via sales. Come the summer things may be different if a Champions League place is obtained.}

Jay Spearing is playing well. Would cost a lot of money to get a better replacement.

LFC interest is small in Bent, inquired, quoted 27m, that is where it ended!

However, heavy interest in a Befatimibi Gomis, esp. from Dalglish, and Lyon are willing to do a deal, can you confirm this eds?

Looks like we are wrapping up a deal for more top young talent. 13 year old Dublin lad will be attending the FA cup match were pool hope to get a deal done. I've heard he has turned down Utd to go to us so thats always a bonus. He has been watched a few times and plays centre back or centre forward strangely. Keep an eye out for this being anounced over the next few days. cheers

Whose this Dublin lad play for at the moment?

I dont know which team he's come from but he played a couple of trial games at U-16 level and didnt look out of place at all. Big lad and very good on the ball, silly to make comparisons especially at such a young age but people sayin he has a bit of rio ferdinand about him. Just to give ya an idea what type player he is. Hi Eds, first of all - great site. I am truly addicted!

I am simply passing on what I've been told now so please - don't shoot the messenger...

I used to write for COS when I was at uni in Liverpool a few years back and would say I was one of their "more productive writers" even by my own admission, and did pick up a few connections "during my time" there...I also have a few connections in the Liverpool store in L1, who, despite not knowing too much, sometimes pass on information regarding upcoming changes to shirt numbers/stock ordering etc. - This can be hard to interpret however they did get the Aquilani transfer spot on about 3 days before it happened a few seasons ago.

I have been informed by two sources (not L1 store connections) that we ARE interested in Darren Bent.
The stumbling block is the transfer fee. Liverpool are only prepared to stump up around 17 million as of now, and villa want closer to 25. Liverpool will not entertain that figure - thats all im being told - no idea of contact between clubs etc. They have said absolutely nothing about Luuk De Jong apart fron that we have monitored him - this however is general knowledge.

This is ALSO backed up by what I have been told by one L1 store connections who have said that they are expecting some changes to names and numbers for the shirts. That is all I have been told - it could mean a new signing however it could also just mean re-shuffling of squad numbers or promotion of a few youngsters.

I said they pass on details about squad names and numbers which they ARE involved with, because as you may have guessed they do shirt printing there. They told me about the Aquilani transfer days before, and also about Babel leaving. Both where spot on. They are both Liverpool fans and would have no reason to lie.

For the record I never speculated on transfers whilst I was at COS. I had the opportunity to but I was more interested in discussing current players and staff or articles about best transfer policy - not just mindless speculation. For the benefit of everyone who has bothered to read it properly - shuffling of squad numbers usually relates to one first team player in, but one out with the same number. Take fro that what you want, jst passing on what I know. Os red.

Correct me if I'm wrong but aren't squad numbers allocated at the beginning of the season unchangeable until the end of that season? {Ed002's Note - There is a chance to change on Feb 1 after the transfer window.}

Squad numbers are officially submitted at the beginning of the season and players can't all just swap numbers during the season. The only thing that could happen is say, for example, Dirk Kuyt leaves and his number 18 shirt becomes free, and incoming player i.e Bent can then take that number 18 shirt. They can't mid season go 'I'm bored of wearing number 11, stevie trade you my 11 for your 8!' Get your facts right before you lie.

Hang a second the guy is just passing on his info. Incase you all forgot this is a rumour site, he has heard a rumour and posted it! As Ed002 stated, shirt numbers can actually be changed on Feb 1. So get your facts right first.

Just to clear up, squad numbers can be changed on jan 1st - however reshuffling, like I said, usually means one player from the first team out and one in to take his number. I have absolutely no information however on who could be leaving/ arriving apart from Bent. Although general rumours suggest there is interest in kuyt and maxi - OS red. {Ed002's Note - Squads have to be submitted on February 1 not January 1. What news do you have on Bent for us?}

Darren Bent plays double the amount of games and scores the double amount of goals than Defoe. Oh I'm sorry Defoe had one decent game against West Brom the other day.

Defour was a Hodgson target. Krasic has been mentioned more recently but is a right midfielder, not a central midfielder. In saying that its a right midfielder we need not a cenrtral one anyway.

Torres talking to more than one club apparently. PSG and Galatasaray are both interested and he is talking to all but that does not mean he will go. I highly doubt Galatasaray but Paris is a City he (and his family) might like and they have a good project. My contact says he is very likely to stay at Chelsea though and be given a run in the team until the end of the season.

I have friends who work at melwood and can confirm that fernando torres was at melwood yesterday although it wasn't to complete any transfer he was there 20 mins and left with pepe reina and returned later on to collect his car and left again. Looks like was just a flying visit to see his friends up here. So all those getting excited can calm down

Another response that wouldn't make sense, I don't believe Fernando is returning but why would he meet his friends at Melwood surely somewhere public or at there homes would be better.

Torres has admitted to a Spanish Radio station that he has found it hard to settle in London, and he was more settled in Liverpool because of the Spanish team mates who were in the LFC team at the time, and the neighbourhood/people were more friendlier. People have gone on other forums and explained he use to live next door to Pepe Reina and they were in and out of each others houses and it has also been stated in the past that his wife has not settled down in London either. I am not in the know, just information picked up from various forums.

Hello :) right have we got any interest in any of these players - Bent , Torres , Cabaye , Tiote , Ba , De Jong or Coloccini these are all the rumours I have heard and today I've heard a lot of rumours about Torres being at melwood no smoke without fire please answer back :)

Not even smoke in this case. a valid rumour must have some level of fact behind it even if the ultimate outcome is not certain. this just seems to be fans talking about their hopes. lots of hopes does not equal smoke in this case

@mirroranderson is suggesting the darren bent deal is near the final stages of negotiations. alex mcglish is saying liverpool have not contacted villla because they dont want to publicise the deal.

They would not contact McLeish. they would contact the Chairman/CEO and McLeish probably wouldn't even know until the price was agreed.

i have heard that liverpool are extremely close to a deal with sessegnon. he is in england and his family is in france so liverpool are going to make a deal for him and a benefitial deal for his family. eds what do you say? {Ed001's Note - I very much doubt it, his family are not settling in England.}

This whole rumour has escalated purely because he has stated he is unsettled in England. Easy to see through moranic thought process: Unsettled player in North East, Liverpool in general graphical area, Lucas injured so pool need midfielder = FAKE LIVERPOOL RUMOUR

Sessgnon will most likely not last in sunderland but would be great to go to liverpool

'off the ball ' is a radio sports show on newstalk.ie (irish station) , you can listen live or listen back. the show is on from 7-10 weeknights . I'd highly recommend it for sports and particularly football fans ( Johnny Giles Thursdays). No, I dont work for them , but its just a really great show and very addictive . I have stayed in the car just outside my house after arriving home for up 20 minutes sometimes just in order not to miss the end of some of the interviews theyve had.good banter. anyway the reason it sprang to mind was that they were on about liverpool looking into getting some player from Inter Milan this window,a striker. (i think) . The source sounded legit ( a writer but not a tabloid hack) and it was from Inters side ,not Liverpools which seems water-tight these days . he said it wasnt a done deal but that discussions are definitely well under way. Im sorry I cant provide more details but I was distracted at the time and didnt catch it properly. maybe the eds could have an inkling as to which player is in question. I'd be interested myself. apologies for essay length post about a half rumour!

Newstalk use Graham Hunter for european gossip...and some well respected others who are based on the continent. They can be taken serriously because the people they used seem to have excellent connections. That said, they are oppenly derisory when it comes to reporting on Liverpool, especially that droll, sardonic t**t who has a pop at every opportunity. I was driving the other night and listening to coverage of the City game, he could barely contain himself when Reina made that blunder, describing him as fat and bloated and basically rubbing it in. For reason like that I find it hard to listen to them. If you want to listen to the podcast of that show you juts have to listen to the podcasts on their website. Simples.

If you're talking about Ken Earley, and I'm pretty sure you are - he is actually a Liverpool fan himself, you clown. He just doesnt wear the rose tinted glasses like the vast majority of Reds, and is extra-critical of them because he is a supporter. For the record I heard him reporting on Reina's mistake and he never called him fat or bloated.
