A question for you Ed002 if I may, just curious what happened with Liverpools interest in Bertrand? Did we not want to pay the asking price for him?

Used TSF but couldn't quite find anything about it!

Cheers

Believable4 Unbelievable21

{Ed002's Note - Therw was no offer made to Chelsea - just questions about his availability.}

Eds what do you know of Phil Kirklands story in the Echo that we've approached PSG about Cavani.

Believable18 Unbelievable32

{Ed002's Note - I will guess it is based on Twitter from before trhe world cup. If not it demonstrates that Brendan Rodgers and the transfer committee and the club are flakes looking to spend money to appease gullible fans who want a marquee player - it doesn't matter who it is as long as he costs €60M the club cannot afford.

The shock is that the Ibrahimovic news involving Liverpool has not been mentioned yet tonight.}

Seriously Ed, there's been a link with Ibrahimovic? I'm still not quite up to speed with the sarcasm levels on here so please forgive me if I'm being stupid!

Eds, I've read several reports that we're interested in Ibrahimovic, any truth ;-)

Ed is this the alleged twitter spat between Sturridge and zlatan from a while back?

Agree1 Disagree0

07 Aug 2014 21:43:11
Not for me Ed.

Give me Sturridge all day

Anything after him is a bonus.

Care to spill the Ibra news ed?

Ibrahimovic news Ed?? Can you elaborate?

Agree1 Disagree1

What ibra news is this eds? You do love a tease :)

07 Aug 2014 22:14:03
That may be true Ed002 however when you look at the merchandise range in the club shop that Gerrard has always had but also suarez and torres before that . The revenue it brings in is phenomenal and after all its a business that requires revenue?

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - Some sort of sick joke I guess.}

07 Aug 2014 22:14:20
Oh Ed002 you tease.

Ed002 - what is this 'Ibrahimovic information' you referred to?
Appreciate all the work you guys do to give us fans even a small insight! Thanks!

I honestly don't know if I should laugh or cry at some of these replies.
They say sarcasm is the lowest form of wit but you, quite obviously, need a few brain cells to rub together to appreciate it.

Agree4 Disagree0

It's the twitter mentality Tristan.

The 'marque' signing grabbers.

The transfer leeches!

Agree4 Disagree0

When they say marquee signing? I've heard Blacks have a sale on tents and Argos 50% off on gazebo's, is that close?

Joking aside, we are short on fire power and have sold a world class player who is worth 40+ goals a year, Ian Ayre says that we haven't touched the Suarez money yet (how true that is I don't know and none of us can claim to).

So if Ayre's claims are true, then maybe the club have unreasonably raised the expectations of the fans, if it's not true, I would rather they came out and said it.

I don't think that it is unreasonable that any supporters of any club may expect that if you sell a world class striker, you try to replace like for like or as close to as possible.

As it stands, if Sturridge gets injured long term we are in trouble, I like Borini, he's a nice guy, but he's not going to score the volume of goals that Sturridge or Saurez would, I see lambert as a back up and a plan B, but replacement for Suarez? No way.

What alternatives are there?

Falcao? Not at all, if the costs bandied about are true, then it makes no sense, besides which he'll end up at Madrid in any case.

Cavani? Don't see that one happening, cost of it wouldn't make sense.

Lavezzi? Too near 30, PSG want top dollar and he is on stupid wages, don't see it as a starter.

Huntelaar? Too old(31?), limited as a footballer, no pace, poor first touch and essentially a goal hanger who doesn't contribute to the team(so can't see him being a Rodgers type player), Also will want top dollar wages, not worth it.

Bony? Prima facie, perfect option, young, won't cost a kings ransom, strong as an ox, relatively quick, only drawback being that maybe isn't as flexible as Rogers wants for a forward, but as a CF he's scored goals and is PL proven.

Lacazette? Young, quick, plays across the front positions and scores goals. But would be a risk as Ligue 1 is a poorer competition.

Reus? Slightly left field as not a CF, but can play across the front line, talented, quick, skilfull and would be a real coup, however, a lot of teams will want him and I suspect that he will end up at Bayern Munich.

But having said all that there's 24 days of the transfer window left and so far hasn't gone too bad, so all we can do is wait and hope for the best.

Agree5 Disagree0

Just been told Messi in local l4 chippy. I dashed down but sadly it was just messy bit of a scrap and 2 community bobbies asking for witnesses!

Agree0 Disagree2

Agree with mr Dennis' sentiments. please substitute the word 'marquee' with 'quality'. We need to sign a quality striker. RL is a great third striker, nothing more.

Having visited this site for some time, Ed002 is a legend in sarcasm.

This should tell you if the Ibra rumour is true or not!

Ed002 - I mean no offence, you'd skills are admirable.

Agree1 Disagree0

We are not interested in either Cavani or Ibrahimovic, regardless of what rumours are going around

Edinson Cavani's agent confirms Rodgers is in for the PSG striker

Cavani's agent, Claudio Annelluci

"There was much interest in the player during the past six months. I can confirm that Cavani has heard proposals from Liverpool and Arsenal, " he said.

"He would love to play in England, but has not yet made a final decision. He is not interested in money and fame, he just wants to be happy playing football."

Believable7 Unbelievable27

{Ed002's Note - Why not share the date for this news? It is truly, truly why you may just hear the word laughing stock again. Thank goodness "Claudio Annelluci" did not say this back before the world cup. Nor mention the "Liverpool representatives" he was talking to.}

This would be the same Cavani who not 12 months ago was trying to get the UN nato or sodding greenpeace to impose sanctions on LFC for holding his mate Suarez "hostage"

"Liverpool have confirmed that Brad Smith has joined League One side Swindon Town on a youth loan.

The 20-year-old made his first team debut last season when he appeared as a substitute in the 2-1 defeat by Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on December 29, 2013.

The Australian born left-back is an England youth international and he was called up to the U21 squad for the Three Lions at the end of last season."

Hope he gets played regularly. Good luck to the lad. Seems a natural part of his progression, same as Wisdom and Suso's loans. Now, all that said, Suso will be sold and Wisdom will never cut the grade just to spite me, haha. but I do believe they will both be top players.

Ed002,
What do you make of the Falcao rumours. Is this even possible, I for one hopes this is true

Believable12 Unbelievable51

{Ed002's Note - I really would not hold your breath about Falcao moving to Anfield.}

I find it hard to believe, but also after Benzema just signing 5yr contract, Bale Ronaldo, Jesse I'm not sure RM would pay the wages for him either.

Tony Barrett has just confirmed that we did, in fact, inquire about getting Falcao but we were told he's off to Madrid. So unless that moves break down, we'll be looking elsewhere. Also said the loan fee was £12m, which, with wages added, would go up to £22m, so it makes sense that we backed out. Paying that much for a loan alone isn't very responsible. Madrid however, could probably afford that. Does show that the club is showing intent for a big name and will get one if the deal is right so fingers crossed they can get someone of that calibre in before the window shuts. Thanks.

Also on the Echo it's saying Liverpool have contacted psg about Cavani, saying he's not about the money or fame he just wants regular football. Also he hasn't made a decision on his future, Think of it what you will but I agree, it's showing intent.

Agree0 Disagree3

Not sure why we haven't looked at Jackson Martinez, he's a quality player and has the physique not to get bullied around.

There was no way that Falcao was ever going to be realistic.

Agree1 Disagree1

How much would you put on winning the prem league or the champs league, I don't know about his wages but why don't you go on about the money we are paying glen johnson a week, plus his bonus money like appearance fee, being in a winning team, any goals or any assist money, let the money men at the club worry about the money and worry about the team winning or losing or not having better players that could win us titles and cups, the deal for falcao wouyld have been cheaper than GJ staying

Agree0 Disagree1

If Aquilani was bought for 20 mil then Falcao is defientely worth 22 mil for one season

07 Aug 2014 13:11:31
My pal Roy says Falcao is in Liverpool. He is a Sunderland fan who is "in the know" Twitter is claiming we are in for him also. Where has this even come from eds have we actually got interest in him

Nice! I love rumours like this! A lot more fun that the normal infighting and backstabbing that often passes for normal behaviour on the boards!

Danny, just throw in a sighting by a cabbie, and some info from an estate agent,and we're there!

Seriously, would love this to happen!

I can confirm Falcao was in Liverpool.

He was busking in Lime Street Station and did his big hit "Rock Me Amadeus".

He packed up and left when the crowd were only putting in £50 notes.
