Why bizarre? He was bought at when we needed cover at CB because of injuries to Matip, Van Dyke etc. Plus, he cost us 500k and we've sold him for 8 times that. We, as other clubs, have done similar things in the past. Good business as far as I'm concerned.

Agree @Bakedbeanboy - he was bought as cover when we lost out first four choices at CB. It was a good move for both him and the club then and it is another good move for him and us now. Fair play to the lad and best wishes for success at Rangers.

I think that there was a time, not long after he got here when he would have got a game but he suffered an injury and by the time he was fir Williams, and in particular, Phillips had caught the boss’s eye.

I do feel for Davies, and I guess this is the best ending for both parties. I hope he gets a decent career moving forward and I hope Liv can use the money to reinvest in the team. Shame we never really got to see how he would have done in a proper game for us.

I suspect his disappointment will have been tempered by a decent signing on fee/ salary and at least gained some experience of training with world-class pros under world class coaches at an elite training facility. Good luck at Rangers, lad.

I think the theory that we've made money on this transfer is flawed (although I agree that getting £4m is decent) . Yes he only cost £500k up-front (and I assume none of the add-ons have been triggered) and has now been sold for £4m, but I believe his salary was about £3m per year. So for 1.5 years we've paid him £4.5m for not one single appearance. Add the transfer fee and it becomes £5m plus usual peripherals that go with a transfer.

He's not played a single match for us so it's hard to argue that we've had anything for the £5m, other than perhaps the assurance/ cover that we needed in that position at that point in time.

RR - Davies loan to Sheff Utd evened out the initial loan transfer fee and I can't imagine we'd have paid all of his wages for the time he was on loan, so I still think we've made more of a profit than you're saying.

I challenge anyone to tell me when he had a bad game for us. Lad never put a foot wrong in an LFC shirt lol.
