Apparently we big for Douglas Luiz.

Agree0 Disagree0

31 Aug 2022 03:58:55
Well he’s a decent player, but he doesn’t make me big.

31 Aug 2022 06:37:07
I'm always big.

31 Aug 2022 07:59:39
Does this mean we’re officially in desperation territory?

31 Aug 2022 08:03:08
I wish we were small for him.

31 Aug 2022 08:27:39
Isn't Luiz, if its true obviously, a "6"? .

31 Aug 2022 08:30:11
I doubt that. Not good enough!

31 Aug 2022 08:33:48
Seen some Villa fans saying he’s actually good Gerrard just plays his favourites McGinn and Coutinho in midfield over him.

{Ed001's Note - considering he plays a different position in the team to those two, I very much doubt that has even a tiny bit of truth in it.}

31 Aug 2022 08:49:33
I'm actually OK with this, be a baller under jk.

Prem xp, solid with room to improve / grow.

31 Aug 2022 09:09:42
Partners family are die hard Villa fans, they all say he’s much better as an 8 but McGinn and Ramsey are pretty much nailed down in those spots so he only really gets used as a 6

He’s a decent player, good technique, would be a decent squad option with a fairly high ceiling.

Another Portuguese speaking Brazilian, hopefully of good nature. Not quite the FDJ or Tchouameni that we were hoping for, but surely more reliable than Nobby.

31 Aug 2022 09:34:59
He passes the durability test as he’s not had any injuries for the last three years. So there’s a good start.

31 Aug 2022 09:37:27
Players like Luiz hardly scream progression to me. Klopp can't keep pulling rabbits out of hats on the "limited" budget we have - limited compared to others at the top. Sooner or later the club transfer model will need to be altered if we are to keep pace at the top. And kick on.

We need to make better transfer decisions the first time as we don't have unlimited resources. Luiz might be a really good player, but only because he's better than an injured Ox or an injured Keita or an injured Curtis Jones. IF he signs then we back the lad of course. But I doubt he's coming. We've had since April to find an Alt target to Tchoumeni. So for me we are done in this window. No matter what Klopp asks for or hints at etc etc.

31 Aug 2022 09:58:14
I actually think Luiz is a decent player with a lot of potential. Good on the ball, decent vision and technique and durable as mentioned above. Also has the ability to score from outside the box which we have been missing for quite a while. Don’t be put off by that he’s at Villa or maybe doesn’t play. KDB and Salah didn’t play at Chelsea and Mascherano didn’t play at West Ham. It’s all about how Klopp utilises him if it is true and if it is I trust Klopp and the transfer team know what they are doing.

31 Aug 2022 10:18:39
Better off sticking with what we have, cruises through games having no impact at all.

31 Aug 2022 10:24:26
I don't think the transfer model is bad. It just needs a little bit of flexibility in it. Long-term and thoughtful planning of recruitment is a good thing. But sometimes there is a glaring opportunity cost and a bit of flex is needed.

You can compete and win with our recruitment model. We've shown it already.

But we're in danger of becoming arrogant. It almost feels like we're so precious about our transfer strike rate, we're missing pragmatism.

31 Aug 2022 11:36:39
Luiz is fine for the early rounds of league and fa cup and will warm the bench at all other occasions unless Fab out. His girlfriend is a very good footballer for Villa women and she is smokin. Not a transfer I would approve of but if cheap and low wages considering fair enough. Anything over 20 million is too much.

31 Aug 2022 12:34:30
We already moan about quantity over quality in midfield. He would add to that.

31 Aug 2022 16:53:01
Not heard any rumours or claim to be itk but if we’re talking Douglas luis, there’s no mention of Soucek, quality squad addition in my mind.

31 Aug 2022 19:25:50
Great points Pelican.

31 Aug 2022 23:22:26
Paying 20 million or more for a player who probably would not even make the first team and just needs to plug a hole for a short period of time makes little sense. It would be better to just tough this out with the players we have. Fabinho/ Eliott/ Carvalho/ Curtis jones whilst lacking experience is still quality wand we can always put firmino at the top of the midfield behind the front 3.

hendo got injurd tonight keita and thiago are out but they won't be gone forever. surely better to wait it out and find a good replacement in the 24-26 year old range over a longer period of time (january or next summer) . we might even realise by then that our young guys have gained the experience and are too good to drop.
