Hi Eds,

With Arthur Melo seemingly wrapped up, is that us done in midfield? Or are we looking at potentially adding another? Seen some reports that we aren't done today

Cheers for all the work you've done this summer!

{Ed002's Note - Klopp has said there will be many more additions Benny.}

Sounds like we’re turning into Nottingham Forest on Deadline Day, Ed!

Thank you for your efforts and knowledge Ed!

We should have got gini back on loan weeks ago. Wishing the lad all the best now that he's broken his leg.

01 Sep 2022 16:11:01
Not a soul saw this one coming in!

Stop gap.

GINI Is finished mate and was not as good at us as everyone thinks yea he was part the title and champions league team and scored 2 on that unreal night at Barcelona but he was bang average and was a passenger with great players around him IMO.

I can't agree. Gini did a top defensive job and shielded possession better than most players. He wasn't creative so his play was less attractive than the Bernardo Silva type of play so many people desire, but don't discredit the lad for getting the job done.

Spot on Gandalf.

01 Sep 2022 20:46:16
Cheers lad!

Absolute rubbish loan signing. He'll be injured within a month. No backing from the owners. We'll be very lucky to finish top 4 this season I feel. Way too many injury prone midfielders now. Embarrassing really.

01 Sep 2022 21:08:59
I don’t understand all the insults currently being directed at our title winning midfield. Gini was great; I’ve never seen a player so impossible to get the ball off. JH an incredible captain, with underrated passing ability. Don’t judge a player on their final days - that’s why too many LFC fans don’t realise what a great player Ronnie Whelan was.

01 Sep 2022 22:04:21
Naby Keita. Will forever be remembered by me, as the signing that made Henderson and Gini world class. Talk about a kick up the arse they jumped about 5 levels in class.

01 Sep 2022 22:22:39
Hello Monstersouness, also his match winning goals City 1-0 at home scored the only goal with a header, fully agree with Whelan he was the reason Sheedy went to Everton as Sir Bob knew the better player as Sheedy was also excellent.

One for Ed025 Everton just signed James Garner ("MAVERICK"! ye not digging them out of the cemetery are ye Ed025)

Wijnaldum was an okay player who occasionally turned up. He did have an excellent fitness record to give him credit. Frustratingly he has the talent to be so much more.

01 Sep 2022 23:10:38
Bought to fill any possible gaps, waiting for Bellingham next summer.

The thing is a really great team follows the adage that the ‘sum of the whole is greater than the sum of the parts’ Gini was not flash in the way he played so didn’t get the attention that the ‘impact’ players did. He did, however, do what he was selected to do and he was very good at it.

Anyone who can remember back to the 60’s would probably recall a certain Mr Stiles who played down the other end of the East Lancs Rd. He won the League, European Cup and the World Cup. He, too, had his limitations and to describe him a stylish football player would be incorrect. His role was to ensure the opposition star players were ‘taken care of’ like Eusebio in the 68 European Cup, which he did very well (from his team’s point of view) .

To be an effective player in a great team doesn’t require an individual player to be great it requires them to do what they are asked to do. It’s also true that the most technically gifted player for each position in the world all playing in the same team wouldn’t necessarily guarantee that it was the best team in the world. anyway, just saying.

Agree WDW and Gandalf, the title winning/ CL winning side relied on a rock solid midfield controlling the pace of the game, squeezing the life out of the opposition and avoiding conceding possession or goals unnecessarily, Gini was a master at holding the ball under pressure and we’ve missed him (especially in the biggest games) since. That solid base was what allowed a front 3 of Mane, Firmino and Salah doing the rest.

For all the desire to have a creative, goal scoring midfield, that too comes with its compromises and requires a who different type of game, much more Man City like. I’m OK with that if we have the players and Klopp goes that route (Carvalho and Elliott look worthy candidates in the future) but to deny Gini’s effectiveness in the role he was asked to play at the time is like trying to have your cake and eat it. The team was buily around him and Hendo doing the dirty work and not the glamorous stuff.

Gini was a fantastic team player for us. Maybe not a fantastic individual player but a fantastic team player like many others.

Many fans say Origi won us the CL but without Gini we beat Barcelona that night 2-0 and go out 3-2 on aggregate and never win the competition.

02 Sep 2022 12:36:00
Really JK? So you know what would've happened if there had been someone else playing instead of Winjaldum. Must be fantastic to be able to have that insight.

02 Sep 2022 13:04:23
Hacker that’s very true someone else could very well have played in Wiji’s place and scored 2 and won us the game. The same applies to Origi also.

We could also then say that Klopp and every player in the team doesn’t deserve praise because if they hadn’t have done what they’ve done over the years then others would have done it in their place.

Or do you have the insight to say they wouldn’t have ??‍♂️

It must be fantastic to have that insight if you do.

02 Sep 2022 15:23:00
I never claimed to have any insight. Nobody can know. Yet you said what would have definitely happened without Winjaldum, that Liverpool would have lost the tie!

02 Sep 2022 15:42:10
Hacker I did indeed. But I said it in the same sentence as fans say Origi won us the CL. I was just trying to make a point that Wiji played his part also.

Obviously you believe he didn’t. It’s an opinion game and no one has any insight regardless of how high an opinion we might hold of ourselves as fans.

02 Sep 2022 17:11:41
Hacker if Carvalho hadn’t scored wed night then would we have still won the tie. Of course someone else could have scored but they never. Against Barcelona that night of course someone else could have scored 2 goals. But they didn’t. It’s not insight. It’s hindsight.

02 Sep 2022 21:16:26
You talk nonsense on a daily basis JK. As you say its an opinion game and that's my most honest opinion.

02 Sep 2022 21:21:01
Again JK, different game if different people were playing so nobody can know what would have happened.

03 Sep 2022 08:01:24
Good to hear Rambo ?.

03 Sep 2022 09:00:43
2 posters having a discussion and the only thing you can offer is a personal insult.

I suppose that says a lot more about you than me Karenbo.
