Hello Ed, wanted to ask do you have any names on which midfielders we want this winter window?

{Ed002's Note - I cannot realistically be accurate about the timeing of transfers. There has been interest in recruiting a DM player and several have been looked at. Joao Gomes can probably now be discounted as another side are in discussions with his club. Florentino is an unlikely option in January. Sofyan Amrabat is of interest and may be a January option but there are now other clubs in the mix for him. Jude Bellingham will remain the primary midfield target and Liverpool will push in the summer to make it happen - but the cost is going to potentially be huge. Enzo Fernandez is subject of discussions with another club and seems unlikely. Weston McKennie is not out of the question but there is interest from elsewhere in the Premier League. Otavio remains an option. Frenkie de Jong and Marcos Llorente should be discounted. Moises Caicedo would be an expensive solution and there is interest from elsewhere. Eljif Elmas is a viable option although there is an issue that will need to be resolved. The club has looked at others as they are looking to add midfield players over the next two windows.}

The few times I’ve watched Elmas he seems a good player. I thought McKennie had a good World Cup too along with Musah. Hopefully just one in that can get settled then maybe Jude in the summer. Getting one in feels important given fitness history of some of our midfielders.

{Ed002's Note - Elmas is a versatile and well-liked player and as I have said Manchester City were very keen. McKennie is again a versatile player and cover defensively for Fabinho if Liverpool decide to keep him.}

ED2, you said that Enzo will only move if the release clause is pay in one lump sum which is 120M right? Is there a club out there that is able to do that? 120M to be pay in single payment is crazy money.

{Ed002's Note - Yes there are a number of clubs who can do that.}

Thanks Ed! Like fooking Santa these days.

Thanks Ed02 I was going to ask if you had any insights on midfield targets so this is really appreciated.

Considering we’re searching for DMs and the likes of Caicedo and Enzo are on the list with their price tag, I’m surprised we’re not considering Rice.

Ticks every box and some IMO, with only a relatively short amount of time left on his contract.

{Ed002's Note - I don't see Rice moving to Liverpool.}

I watched McKennie a few times for Juve last season and thought he was consistently solid, never stood out as the best player on the pitch, but was always good. Would be good if we could get him in at a decent price as the Enzo fee is getting a bit ridiculous, no doubt inflated after the world cup. According to reports, Chelsea have bid to match his buy out.

{Ed002's Note - Juventus want €30M for McKennie but will settle for less. I thought Liverpool already have a pre-contract agreement for Fernandez - that is what everyone here told me.}

There is no interest in Khepren Thuram or Kone?

{Ed002's Note - There is interest in both - but not from Liverpool.}

I’d take that McKennie all day. He’s an upgrade on some of our midfield players for sure.
What’s his injury record like?

{Ed002's Note - Not an issue.}

As long as we avoid Amrabat, that’s the main thing. He looks like a huge mistake waiting to happen. He has the turning circle of the QE2, he isn't versatile, he literally plays in Fabinho’s position and is inferior to Fabinho, plus he’s carrying an injury that needs injections to continue playing, which implies a serious injury on the horizon in the very near future. Personally, I think we should go for Caicedo, he’s a known quantity in the premier league, has plenty of energy to get around the pitch and can play both holding and box to box roles.

Which club is in discussions to sign Enzo ed002?

Cheers
Drogie.

{Ed002's Note - Chelsea.}

Ed002 cracking update that on the potential midfield targets. Fingers crossed we get a new mid in Jan. out of the list above who would you see being the best fit. Not who is most likely to sign but who you personally would like to see us sign…. always value the Ed’s views on players. Thanks for the update.

{Ed002's Note - Weston McKennie.}

Does Rice want to stay in London Ed? Lifestyle over sporting project eh. That rarely works out well.

{Ed002's Note - I really don’t know.}

28 Dec 2022 14:45:13
Ed02 do I take it that Liverpool are prioritising Bellingham over Fernandez?

{Ed002's Note - I don’t think so.}

28 Dec 2022 15:40:12
Probably a sign of getting used to stupidly inflated transfer fees, but McKennie seems quite cheap at potentially sub €30m. Is his contract running out in the next 18 months?

28 Dec 2022 16:10:43
Thanks for the info Ed?.

Spaceman. Rice was in the Chelsea academy. His family mainly live in Surbiton way and a lot of them are Chelsea fans. Also his bestie Mount is there. If Chelsea bid for him we will be over there faster than it would take for his agent to let him know a bid has even been made. That being said if they don’t bid he will be off somewhere as West Ham won’t fulfil his ambitions.
