ED001 I have heard that skrtl has been offered a 3 year deal and there is a hitch at the moment because he has to play a lot of games to earn his full (expensive) salary. SureLy this cannot be true?? It's in the Liverpool echo today. I find it EmbarrasIng the club sees him as our best centre back and is offering him such a deal
{Ed001's Note - he has been offered a new deal, for reasons beyond my understanding. They are struggling to come to an agreement due to clauses and add ons. Other than that I have no more knowledge. I haven't read the Echo's story regarding it, I have given up on the Echo as it no longer does anything other than give propaganda these days. They get briefed, rather than researching and coming up with a full story. Sadly they can no longer be considered as something to trust. The likes of Pearce are little more than mouthpieces. Someone at the club is obviously trying to put pressure on Skittles to sign his contract.}

All about opinions isn´t it. I had never been a fan of Skrtle but think he has had a pretty good season and if he is not good enough neither is Lovren in which case we would have to buy 2 new CB´s. Finding 2 good enough that are willing to come to a club without CL football would not be easy.

I'm sure you are correct. Most sources are incorrect but the skrtl story is in quite a few newspapers. My hope is that there is no clause for such a poor defender to be playing a large percentage of games. It reminds me of the Johnson situation. I do worry at the level of coaching we have within the club who cannot spot the difference between a good and poor defender
{Ed001's Note - it is not a clause that forces us to play him that is being suggested. It is simply referring to a very standard large appearance bonus, with a slightly lower wage instead. So if he is out injured or dropped he would get a lower wage than he currently does.}

I hope Rodgers isn't in charge for skrtls to be given large appearance bonuses. He should not be rewarded for being not good enough. Hope our other promising centre backs are given a chance

Ilori? Inexplicably being put up for sale.
We have 1 that is good enough, Sakho, so we need Skerts for the time being and a wage reduction with appearance based bonuses actually makes sense to me.

I wouldn't say he's been solid, but he's good in a back 3.
I really hope Lovren improves and gains confidence but we still need a proper leader at the back. Think Carragher, Terry, Kompany, Fonte type.
Ed I know you said it's not a priority, but assuming Toure, Coates, Wisdom & Ilori leave, do you know of anyone that would fit the bill? Pleeeeeeeeeeeeeease.

I really think some people are being too harsh on Skrtel. He may not be the best defender but he has without a doubt been among the best of a bad bunch for us for some time now!
