Hi eds, what do u tink of this Vardy interest which is reported from espn? Vardy is "modern day Ian Rush"?

"Liverpool is "leading the race" for the 29-year-old England striker, who's wanted as a "modern-day Ian Rush" in what would likely be a £25m summer bid from Anfield. Liverpool could offset some of that cost by selling Mario Balotelli to West Ham for £10m, according to reports from the Brentwood Gazette. ".

{Ed001's Note - not aware of anything in it at all. Not the Vardy bit nor the Balotelli bit. Leicester would not sell him in January for that price anyway. They have no shortage of money to spend and are buying, not selling.}

What if Vardy is a summer acquisition instead of January buy?

{Ed001's Note - what if? Are you asking if it is possible? Far too early to say, the January window has not even shut yet.}

super Mario to West Ham put a smile on my face . pity its just paper talk.

I hope there's no truth in this. Fair play to the lad for what he's done this season but he'll turn 30 soon and I'm not convinced he's at the very highest level really. If he'd had 2/ 3 good seasons in the PL then I think it'd be a decent shout but he's not so I'd rather we left him where he was.

£25 million for a player about to turn 30 off of the back of one really good season would make no sense at all.

Very much a Liverpool acquisition then Mr. Dennis.

17 Jan 2016 10:58:56
On the one hand, £25m for Vardy as Mr Dennis said with one good season, wtf?

On the other hand, £25m is what Fergie paid for van persie, at a similar age, also off one good season, to help win him his last league title.

Not saying I completely understand the interest (if indeed it is real, it is a rag reporting it after all! ) but it's not without precedent.

Just read the same dribble on the BBC site, there saying for the summer for Vardy, the hammers are welcome to Mario pity it's rubbish.

Van Persie was worth the cost to Man U, and was a good player, Vardy dosnt come close to what VP offered. There has to be no chance of Vardy, can't see Leicester selling and surely, surely we wouldn't waste that kind of money on him. The lad has done well and I hope he scores plenty at the euros and helps us lift the trophy but there's not a single piece of me that wants to see him in a Liverpool shirt, I'd rather throw away 10 mil on Charlie Austin, and I sure as hell don't want us to do that.

In this moment, I Believe.

Zeddicious - Utd bought a proven goal scorer in van persie. He produced season after season.
AND, buy buying from Arsenal not only did he strengthen United but also weakened a rival massively - as was proven.
Point is, vardie at that price, no thank you. His game is massively based around his pace and coming into his 30's this is most likely going to fade.
Thanks, but no thanks.

It's the daily star!

17 Jan 2016 17:52:03
Tbh, I'm amazed I got one agree! Lol!

And in the run up to his last 2 seasons with Arsenal (18 goals and 30 goals respectively) RVP only got into double figures twice in his firs 6 seasons. Hardly a proven top level performer, like Thierry was, for example.

17 Jan 2016 20:07:18
Zeddicus that's because Van persie was primarly used on the wings by arsenal until his latter seasons. Also you have to take into account his horrendous injury record during his years at arsenal. Another reason why stats are useless.

Far too much money and too much of a risk for a player who has been excellent for only half a season.

Also Vardy plays in a two which is not the same as playing up front in a one. If he was up front on his own would he be as effective?

We need a world class striker or one that has been consistently very good over many seasons and no more target men please. Carrol + Benteke = 67.5 million? for 2 players who will never get you in the top 4.

Vardy is just the kind of English player Liverpool go hard in on, including some ridiculous overpayment for "proven EPL goals", and after he arrives, he's an absolute donkey.

I can just see it.
