Sky sports just said Mane undergoing medical ahead of a £34m move.

Agree14 Disagree4

27 Jun 2016 11:44:08
overpaid yet again, so it seems, talented player but just wish we would stop buying southampton players (no offence)

27 Jun 2016 12:01:26
34 million for mane, Zielinski for 12! 46 for Reus sounds much better.

{Ed001's Note - really? This is the kind of stupidity that is annoying. This is not football manager.}

27 Jun 2016 12:07:28
Reus is not coming to liverpool, buddy. Wake up.

27 Jun 2016 12:10:02
Does the cost matter really? Think it's really good signing me self.

27 Jun 2016 12:16:31
Let's try ignore the prize and club for a minute. Are the player better than, let's say Jordon Ibe? Yes. Will the player an improvement of the squad? Oh yes! Do the player want to play for Liverpool? Apparently. Well that's all we relly have to worry about. Job well done! Maybe it seems a bit over the odds, but that's the consequence of not being able to offer CL football. Non the less we got three fine players for a total of £10 mill. (and proberly high salaries) early in the window. Four proper good players comming for £45 mill is pretty good business. Pardon me for talking money here Eds. Correct me if i'm way off!

Best regards
M. Smedegaard.

27 Jun 2016 12:33:37
Yipster9999 we could save that 46 million, sell benteke for 24 million and buy pogba.

We've got the best we could under the circumstances we've been given. Buying any proven prem player who is as good as mane isn't going to be cheap nowadays.
personally I think we've finally replaced the pace and directness we lost when sterling left, and added someone with more end product.
I think this season will be very exciting, especially with the addition of pep, Jose and conte and koeman. top 4 for us, even without European competition is going to a massive ask! But sit back, enjoy and support!

27 Jun 2016 12:34:48
Well I'm not holding my breath, but I'll be the first to apologise if it turns out good business. Good luck to the lad, hope he sorts his attitude out. No improvement on Oakland for me.

27 Jun 2016 12:37:52
We don't no for sure grujic and karius are proper good players smedegaard. Matip is proven and mane is good when he shows up.

27 Jun 2016 12:51:54
Pogba isn't going to Liverpool, ever. Reus could, klopp connections and when he goes back to Dortmund for training, he's going to be on his own.

27 Jun 2016 12:52:42
Also, we sold sterling for £49m

Just saw he's arrived for his medical.

27 Jun 2016 12:56:48
Who is Oakland yipster9999?

27 Jun 2016 12:41:42
Yipster, why not sell all of our players and buy Messi?

Now that he's retired from internationals, he should easily be able to cover 11 positions on the field.

27 Jun 2016 12:42:19
We know Klopp has wanted to add width. If Marko stays then that's 2 quality wingers with young Ojo as back up and who Ojo can learn and develop alongside. He's coming now so support the guy. I'm nor all for paying £10m for Chilwel but if it becomes apparent it's happening then I'd happily man up and support the guy it's what fans do.

27 Jun 2016 13:09:07
A player signing isn't automatically questionable just because he's from Southampton.

27 Jun 2016 13:12:03
Just for the record, I was 110% joking about pogba coming to Liverpool. Jesus.

27 Jun 2016 13:21:14
Lets just get behind the lad. It's a hefty price tag but who's to say he won't be the difference. He's clearly an upgrade on what we have currently so that is a good thing. It might have been cheaper to just buy Southamptons entire academy and staff but if we offload Ballotelli, Benteke and others which we will have to to abide by FFP then it'll be ok. The Yanks seem to be running the club responsibly maybe not doing business the "Liverpool way" but fans can't control that. We just need to show our support win or lose.

27 Jun 2016 13:35:38
More then happy with Mane on the pitch as a player and I believe he will improve our attack. Disappointed with the fee, again we over pay, over pay Southampton, who signed his replacement for £12m a third of the price.

Rather our next move is to sign the Saints negotiation team and their scout.

Welcome Mane, price tag is not your fault and hope the Very best for your move.

27 Jun 2016 13:38:43
Oakland was meant to be lallana but I was typing with such rage over the 34 million price tag. I know we wouldn't get Reus but it would be nice to see us try and compete for big names. Is it just me who isn't happy with signing? I just see us keep making the same mistakes over and over again, players must think if I have a decent season in premier league I can move to Liverpool triple my wages.

27 Jun 2016 13:49:46
Mane would be a great signing and could prove to be worth every penny. We've all seen enough of him to know what kind of player he is. Excitement and entertainment is what we all want after all isn't it?

27 Jun 2016 13:54:27
The fact we didn't get Mane for much cheaper a few years ago when we could have is Rodgers' fault, not the transfer committee's. The transfer committee recommended him, Rodgers didn't want him. He costs a lot of money, but if he delivers on the pitch then who cares.

27 Jun 2016 13:58:35
"players must think if I have a decent season in premier league I can move to Liverpool triple my wages"

Its Leicester, not Liverpool who have bid for Troy Deeney.

Chelsea are likely to pay more for Stones than we have on Mane, does he justify that?

Is Lukaku worth more than Suarez?

What about Sterling leaving us to triple his wages at City, how has that worked out?

I'm not just spouting random names, but trying to point out a couple of things:

1) Players in general want to move unless their club is winning everything (and sometimes even then) . And they will almost always move for more wages, especially if they have had breakthrough seasons. I'm sure Vardy has close to trebled his wages, but he stayed where he was rather than moving.

2) We have taken a 'gamble' with a number of cheaper players - Matip, Karius, Gurjic, and even Zielinski or Dahoud at £15-£25m - compared to their relative costs with experience in the EPL. For Karius at £5m, read Jack Butland at £15-£20m, for example. It makes perfect sense for Klopp to buy at least one player who is already proven in the league, to fill an obvious gap that we have in our forward line.

I too would love us to be pitching for some of the biggest names and be a destination club once more, but until we are regularly in the CL, that's unlikely to happen, regardless of the manager.

And before someone says "Chelsea can do it". They've been in the CL for the last decade or more, every season, and have also won the EPL and the CL recently. Much as it pains me, they have a much more successful recent history than we have, and the vast majority of players, especially the best ones, will want to join a club that is more likely to have success.

We have to be realistic about who will join us this window and the next, and hopefully this time next year, we find that Klopp has signed the right pegs, for the right holes, to move us closer to success.

27 Jun 2016 14:20:03
Pogba, Reus, come on people, they aren't coming! If Klopp can sort his attitude out, I'm happy, as he could just be what we're missing.

27 Jun 2016 14:26:33
Spot on Zed. i'm not happy with the price and not sure if his stinking attitude will change and I hope it does. However, his talent and abilitymis nog in doubt and Klop has wsnted him since his Dortmund days so he scouted him way before we knew who he was. So on yhat note sndif Klopp ca fix his attitude issues, I am all for it.

27 Jun 2016 14:41:17
Brilliant post! Hats off to u Sir.
Karius, Mane, Matip and Grujic for a combined fee of around 50 million is good business to me. The all have room for becoming even better players than they are now and none of them will be on extortionate wages. We have improved 2 problematic positions (width and GK) and a quality LB should round up a fruitful transfer window.

27 Jun 2016 15:20:57
I just think he will be another el hadj diouf. Could do a lot better than mane.

27 Jun 2016 15:45:11
Not posted for a while due to family problems etc but have read the posts.

There seems to be an influx of imbeciles on the site who slate everything and live in a football manager fantasy land.

It is no wonder ed002 slates us as fans. Get behind the new players and current ones.

Great signing and will hopefully become a great player for us.

27 Jun 2016 16:08:16
why do people care about the price?

27 Jun 2016 16:48:53
OK KSS - in that particular position he's being bought for, who could we get that is a lot better than Mane, taking into account no CL, no Europe, and with proven PL ability and stats, ready to say we could do better - give us names.

27 jun 2016 17:55:19
quite!

27 Jun 2016 17:57:50
I welcome Mane. He could terrify a few fullbacks with his pace and skill.

27 Jun 2016 19:12:34
Diouf is a ridiculous comparison! Do you even know/ remember who El Hadj Diouf was?

This was a chap who was bought off the back of a scouting report at/ before the 2002 world cup. He had only played in the French league, not the EPL.

Mane has spent 2 seasons in the EPL, successfully scoring 25 goals in 75 games for Southampton, with a number of assists along the way too.

About the only comparison between the two players are that they are both Senegalese forward players!

27 Jun 2016 19:17:34
John B. lallana., save the money and invest when better players are available, or use it to strengthen positions like Cm and Lb.

But I'd rather go for, Pastore, draxler, schurlle, Munain, Lucas Moura, brahimi, to name a few.

27 Jun 2016 19:26:16
Diouf was less talented, lazy and a csncer in the dressing room.

27 Jun 2016 23:40:59
If medical ok and we sign, the price is what they paid and the player is Liverpool. With sales we can recoup much of the money we paid on players - we just have to sell sell sell now.
If he finally arrives I think he can do well, price is a lot of money but he will get my support for coming and pulling on the shirt - as did Benteke, however we know he will be leaving.
I still think we need to sign the Southampton scouting team.

28 Jun 2016 09:19:52
Hi Guys,

Feeling a bit tentative to weigh in on this Sadio Mane deal, as I understand from reading the posts, there are lots of fans who are against this signing at the quoted price.

Here's my view, I choose to look at Mane as the replacement for Sterling.
Now I know people will say, Firmino was brought in when Sterling left, but I see Firmino as a different type of player, closer to the Gerrard mould than Sterling.

The question we should be asking ourselves is, Who would you prefer in the team, Sterling or Mane? I know everyone will say Mane, he has a much better record, a hunger for goals and a better end product than Sterling.

Thanks.

28 Jun 2016 11:23:12
The thing is that Man United had a £30m bid turned down in January and Chelsea and Bayern Munich both had a look at the lad. He isn't a mug and certainly is better than the likes of Walcott, Oxlade, Townsend or Yarmelenko. He is proven in the premier league and at international level, he is lightning quick, skilful and knows where the goal is. As Ed002 always rightly says, don't discuss the money, just look at what he will bring us, which is pace, goals and unpredictability. Support the lad and make him feel welcome.

28 Jun 2016 11:29:19
Yipster, we tried for Goetze and he rejected us out of hand. By big names I don't know who else we could realistically go for? Reus and Sane wouldn't come as there is no champions league and Rafa Silva is off to Benfica. Beyond him I am struggling because Mane is best available to us who we know has been successful at a high level. Like I say who else would we be able to attract? As far as I am concerned, the lad wants to play for us, he has been looked at by some the likes of Man U, Chelsea, Arsenal and Bayern, so he is no mug. I have had my doubts about him, but he is here now so support him and give him the freedom to show us what he can do (Not that we haven't seen that already. )

28 Jun 2016 10:42:43
not read all the comments but to the one who said 'does cost always matter' of course it does. are you off your head mate? jesus we go and pay this for such a player its horrendous. we don't need him, and time will show it was a mistake. very simlar to a balotelli, benteke, carroll deal. stupidity, they see us coming, rediculous!

28 Jun 2016 11:42:19
All I can say is that Man United were willing to pay a similar price for him and he was watched by Chelsea, Arsenal and Bayern Munich. This could be a really good signing if we show the lad some support and give him the confidence to just go out and do what he does best, which is make defenders look stupid.

28 Jun 2016 17:47:02
He doesn't need support. He's an animal when he choses ro be, a beast of a player with proper aggresivness on the ball the likes of Phil, rob and Adam wouldn't know.

He's the one that can win the last ball that looked unwinnable and spark the team in to life. I loge the lad and were very lucky to be able to get him.

Glad we didn't fund his move to Bayern by going to gotze, now that would of been a mistake considering all the similar players we have to him. Be fine if we need to replace couts but not to add to this already good bunch of players

Enjoy next year lads its going to be a golden!

28 Jun 2016 23:30:37
Agree about Pogba.
There is zero chance of him signing for Southampton so there is no chance for our scouts to take a look at him.
