Reports suggest that we have turned to Wijnaldum after missing out on Zielinski, talks are ongoing but Liverpool are confident of striking a deal.

I bloody hope not! would prefer brannagan every day of the week.

Hope not. That would be throwing money away. We are well covered for attacking midfielders and frankly he was rotten last year for Newcastle.

Noticed this a few times in the last couple of hours! Hmmmmm.

This could be possible, and I'm not doubting his ability, but this still makes little sense to me.

Piotr Zielinski was our main midfield target and we let him get away because we wouldn't pay the 15 million until the very last minute, when we had already burned bridges with Udinese.

And yet our back up target, so to speak, is Newcastle's Wijnaldum. a player who would cost us more than Zielinski at about 20 million?

Why would we pay more for our back up target then our main target?

I'm left scratching my head at this. Klopp clearly wanted Zielinski and whoever was in charge of player recruitment further exacerbated the situation (I. e. tapping up) by offering less.

I honestly don't remember much of Wijnaldum when he played in the prem last season so I have no basis to form an opinion about his ability but I remember one of the Ed's seemed unsure about him, doubted his bottle when Newcastle faced a relegation battle if I remember correctly.

I'm guessing this signing would also spell the end of Joe Allen's tenure with Liverpool. A shame as I thought he was coming into a little bit of form but it might be best for all parties. A fresh start for Allen and some money in Liverpool's coffers.

Regardless I'll be interested to hear everyone's opinion on this.

I would rather give branagan his chance tbh, I think that any Newcastle player who gets a transfer back to the premier league can count themselves very lucky imo. we would have had zielinski if the player and klopp had acted more professionally let's not forget the player stupidly wore the Liverpool shirt as well as letting the world know about his conversations with klopp. couldn't we use this money to finally give Leicester want they want for chilwell or is that to sensible a transfer approach?

Winnaldum is lightweight, can't tackle, isn't a centre midfielder, isn't a winger, isn't exceptionally paced and isn't exceptionally skilful. Not needed thanks.

If this happens then Klopp has lost the plot. Why are we interested in such a pathetically poor player whose qualities help get Newcastle get relegated? The guy isn't even better than ANY of our midfielders at the club including the academy. I'll believe it when I see it.

nice of us to contribute to rafa's promotion push, here you are rafa have £25m, for the dutch lad, we might come back for sissoko if we get rid of bentenke.

Wijnaldum would be a poor signing in my opinion, really poor. Very inconsistent, complete lack of work ethic and, even on his good days, is far from impressive. The fee is also ridiculous. Think this may go down as a very bad signing if it happens - hopefully it is just nonsense.
