Crystal Palace have just had a bid of 23mil plus 7mil in add ons rejected by Liverpool for Benteke.

Is this correct? I thought Palace were looking at another prem Striker and Sissoko and have stepped back from him?

{Ed002's Note - Palace are looking at Sissoko and have spoken to another Premier League side about a striker (who is also attracting interest from elsewhere).}.

Liverpool need to realise that they ain't going to get £30mil for benteke.
Get rid a year on the sidelines ain't going to do anything for his value.

16 Aug 2016 12:47:47
Benteke will be a deadline day signing for someone. For £30million.

16 Aug 2016 14:04:18
Apparently the add-on clauses were completely unrealistic to the point that Liverpool would have a take a large loss on him. I don't have a problem with turning that offer down. He may not fit our style, but he did score 10 goals last year and was barely played when Klopp took over.

Eds, what do these add-on clauses typically consist of? Number of appearances? Number of goals? It's an interesting part of transfer fees.

{Ed001's Note - it varies from transfer to transfer.}

Benteke to Arsenal? haha.

16 Aug 2016 17:40:06
Personally, I think he would suit Evertons style, what with them adding wingers to their side, and with Lukaku possible going, they're going to need a strong physical presence.

Doubt it would happen but it wouldn't surprise me if he's been considered.

16 Aug 2016 19:11:08
Like I already shared last week, it is well known by fan circles in Liverpool that Benteke will be moving to Everton. The only thing holding it up is confirmation on Lukaku. He prefers Everton over Palace, and the deal is already agreed in principle. The papers are always weeks behind.

{Ed002's Note - There is no agreement between Liverpool and Everton over the sale of Benteke. His agent is actively trying to get clubs to speak to him about the player. You "fan circle" is being teased, probably by someone on Twitter.

Do you hold hands when the fan circle meets?}

16 Aug 2016 19:24:11
Don't know why we should care if Benteke is sold or stays, the money the club receive is irrelevant to the fans, if he stays, there's 1 more striker incase there's injuries, unless klopp can't buy a left back until we sell Benteke, then that's a whole new ball game, should be £30m plus £2.5 in add ons, he will be sold, strikers are a premium and he's a top striker if played to his strengths.

16 Aug 2016 20:54:50
There should be no need to take a huge loss. Benteke is not all of a sudden a worse player, in fact in his last couple of games there was improvements in his movement and running off the ball so he should be a better striker. He scored 10 goals in very few appearances, especially full games so he knows where the goal is. It's just teams like Palace know how many strikers we have and are trying to get him on the cheap. If they can't afford him then move on.

16 Aug 2016 23:58:31
Benteke played 42 games last season, Poolie. That is not few in any shape or form.

17 Aug 2016 00:30:30
In todays crazy market benteke is worth every penny of 30m.
In fact I honestly believe that given the ridiculous prices paid this summer, an argument could be made that benteke is worth more than 30m.
Teams crave players that deliver big goals tallies very highly, and goals is something benteke will almost guarantee.
Make no mistake- he is a very valuable player, in my view maybe worth 35 or even 40m at the moment- and a responsible business would not sell a valuable asset off cheaply without a good reason.

17 Aug 2016 03:15:17
Agreed. I feel like because he is a Liverpool player "who didn't work out" we are almost undervaluing him. In today's market, and that is key, today's market, he is incredibly valuable. He is a fantastic striker who guarantees goals. I almost wish we could find a way for him to thrive here but unfortunately it just isn't in the cards. If he were to be made the focal point of a number of teams in the prem, la liga, serie A, etc. he would potentially lead the league in scoring. No need to let him go on the cheap.

16 Aug 2016 20:56:05
The fan circle holds something when they meet, and it's not hands.

16 Aug 2016 21:31:58
To Ed002 - Yes the fan circles are when supporters meet in a secret factor, form a circle and hold hands with a big air con unit in the middle!
Actually fan circles is my new phrase for 'pub'. ;0)

I still think there could be something in it though, which is why I shared with you girls.

Don't forget that "up front" doesn't mean (or very, very rarely means) one lump sum paid in one instalment. "Up front" means the transfer fee that doesn't include clauses.

Typically an "up front" fee is paid over the length of the new contract signed by the player for the new club. In the past this might be over 4-6 seasons.

Palace offered £23 million over 36 months. Liverpool might accept £20 million over 24 months, as an example.

The clauses are normally appearance, goals based or international caps or even promotion/ relegation. They might include a sell on clause as well.

Liverpool playing a canny game here. Palace want Benteke and will end up paying what Pool want and in the time frame that Lpool want.

17 Aug 2016 10:57:47
Benteke might have played 42 games cincy, but he only started 15 PL games and scored 9 goals. I'm not saying we should keep him because he clearly doesn't fit our style of play but let's not write him off as a bad player, in the right set up he can be unstoppable.

17 Aug 2016 13:29:25
Lfc Hopeful beat me to it, Cincy. He actually started 14 EPL games, with a further 15 sub appearances, and scored 9 goals.

He's definitely worth £30m+ in this market to the right club.

17 Aug 2016 19:31:40
Fatdave, I'm not convinced that transfer fees are paid over the length of the contract paid for the player as that decision has got sod all to do with the selling club so why would they wait for ages to get all their money? I had it in my head that there was a two year restriction on that type of thing.

You may be getting confused with how players fees and contracts are amortised/ depreciated in the clubs accounts.

17 Aug 2016 20:45:37
How does that get a disagree?

18 Aug 2016 17:22:28
Apparently one of the clauses was Palace making the CL - which is laughable so never going to happen. If the other clauses were that ludicrous then it was effectively 23m and club was right to bin that one.
