There's a few stories circulating that coutinho has agreed terms with Barcelona. Suppose is was going to happen sooner or later, it's pissed me off as he's quality got to be worth 100 mil. Any ideas on a replacement guys?

Just read the same reports! Absolute joke! We'll miss out on NK, VVD and Can is on the way out to!

25 Jul 2017 23:08:57
Wouldn't believe it, it's just rumours.

Source is a Spanish radio station.

Genuinely curious. how is Phil able to "agree terms" with Barcelona but not LFC? Supposedly Neymar, Suarez, and Messi spoke well about Phil to the brass at Barca.

Are those not examples of "tapping up" as well?

Cheers,
JCS.

{Ed002's Note - It would be if the players or the club were approaching him.}

Starting to wander what the age is of some of the posters on here
Hadn't most of the same sources for the last few weeks been saying Keita and vvd signed for us/ agreed personal terms etc?
If coutinho wants to leave then let him leave, yes he is ONE of our best players, but if he wants out why keep him? As long as we get good money for him.
We have players who should be able to step up and I'm sure there are plans in place for his replacement. As one of the eds said a few times his agent and himself have already spoke of his desire to play for Barca. I believe max Meyer was a replacement mentioned before.
For now it's newspaper clickbait.
Until it's announced its rubbish.
If he goes good luck thanks for some awesome entertainment and onto the next player. Players come and go, Liverpool will always be here.

Uggers chill out man it's probably nonsense. Some people jump on anything just to say how crap we are when they don't even know the full story. Another scenario to your doomsday prediction would be that we sign VVD and Keita, then Couts stays and Can signs a new deal. Just as likely as your ill informed rant.

Thanks, Ed002. I phrased the second part of that post poorly. More accurately, I meant that supposedly Neymar, Messi, Suarez had spoken to Coutinho (and also with Barca) about the benefits of a potential transfer.

My friend works as a scout for a London club and he mentioned something called "soft tapping up" -- is that a common term and is it accurate in this apparent instance where players work as agents for the clubs?

I tried searching the phrase but didn't turn up much.

Thanks again,
JCS.

{Ed002's Note - Well the rules are explicit and talks of "third parties" which includes the players and your friend is correct and the term he uses is a good one. What we know is that Coutinho and his agent made the approach via players and the club - and that is of course wrong - and very similar to the Ashley Cole/Chelsea situation. I have mentioned before how poor Liverpool are in dealing with the transfers - but no one ever asks about others, and it would include both Spanish leading sides and Manchester City. AS for his "soft" term, he is correct - and clubs have to live with players talking with each other and asking about clubs/cities - and that is likely not something anyone could control. Players are briefed at the start of the season about plenty of stuff, from how to behave, what not to do, to changes in rules. It always cover such matters - but that issue persists - across the board. Great comment, thanks.}

Why are you shocked?

This has been brewing for the last couple of seasons!

Now, let's take a big hefty sum, ask them to throw in a couple of players and invest it wisely in quality.

Its not all bad.

If true, i wish him good luck.

If Coutinho is so desperate to go, then tell Barcelona to offer 100 million pounds and get it over with. Hopefully Can signs a new contract and we sign Keita. Would like to see Chirivella get a chance as he is the closest we got to a Coutinho clone out of the numerous youngsters waiting for their chance.

26 Jul 2017 03:28:39
Really good post lifelong red. I totally agree. Ever thought about writing professionally?

26 Jul 2017 08:00:50
Coutinho looked gone in the pre-season games so far.

26 Jul 2017 08:24:23
Faithinworks, stop talking nonsense mate. It's preseason not the bloody World Cup.

26 Jul 2017 08:38:03
but haven't we said he's 100% not for sale. Surely it would take a monumental bid and £80mil isn't that these days.

26 Jul 2017 08:48:52
Indian Buzzer. in what world is Chrivella a clone of couts are you insane? they play nothing like each other Couts is attacking Mid, young Pedro is more like Alonso in his play style he sits deep to dictate play the closest we have to Couts in the youth systems is Woodburn who looks to be taking on the part of Couts understudy, and if you go further into academy the closest there is Dhanda.

Hi Eds,

I'm slightly confused, when we have been caught up in a "tapping up" storm you are (quite rightly) massively disparaging of our actions and the way we go about doing things. When it is Barcalona (in this instance) your response is. "business"

It seems the regulations are suitably vague that teams can pretty much do as they please. I think our transfer approach and management has been deeply embarrassing over the last few years but it appears to be no different to the other teams out there. The Agents hold way too much of the responsibility, in any other industry it'd be classed as a conflict of interest with such huge sums involved. Surely better regulation has to be considered or put in place.

Jp.

{Ed002's Note - I am not sure what you are reading, but Barcelona has not been doing what Liverpool did and I would certainly not have given a one word answer like that. The rules are pretty clear and it is really nothing to do with other industries.}

26 Jul 2017 09:56:25
Indian Buzzer,

You cannot seriously be suggesting we replace Coutinho with Chirivella?

I'm all for giving a youth a chance throughout the season but you have got to be kidding me.

Resolve our best player with a boy who has only played a bit of a championship footy and will likely go out on loan again this season?

Give me strength!

26 Jul 2017 10:14:36
Chirivella a clone of Couts, Indian? Lay off the Koolaid, bro cos you are seeing things. I don't believe the reports being conveyed via the Barcelona mouthpieces in the Spanish media. They and RM do this all the time. If we don't want to sell, we should not sell esp. if Couts has not asked to leave. N BTW, regardless of offer, Keita is not going anywhere and we should use the same tactics used on us by RBL in this situation.

Professional writers do need to be able to spell.

26 Jul 2017 13:34:34
Just saying. Don't need to freak out as if anything I say is going to tip him over to Barca. Altho it seems to me it's a matter of timing now. Take a chance to go now if he can, or maybe miss out if Barcelona move on and back to their #1 veratti?
Anyway, Suarez looked gone in Melbourne too. And by all accounts, if not for a Stevie G convo and the carrot of bigger fish than arsenal out there, he may have left that summer. I'm just giving my observation that from the game time I've seen he looks like Suarez did during that period. I imagine a big part of it too is Coutinho possibly battling the emotions of staying or going!?

27 Jul 2017 10:52:46
Coutinho is going nowhere. If sigurdsson is worth 50 million, or Barkley with 1 year on his contract is worth 40 million plus then Coutinho has got to demand a world record fee, and even then he should not be sold because there is no one out there to replace him that we can get! FSG OUT.

{Ed001's Note - FSG out because a player might want to leave? God this is moronic. Grow up.}
