Move for Luan tonight / tomorrow.

Agree2 Disagree19

He's the only player I've ever watched on YouTube who doesn't look very good! Perhaps he'll be a world beater!

11 Aug 2017 01:40:46
should be looking to improve the back 4 imo. probably the worst of the top 6 clubs maybe more.

11 Aug 2017 07:40:15
Canada_red I don't think our defence is that bad. There is quality there. Just too many mistakes.
Look at Leicester when they won the league, absolutely solid at the back, individually they aren't Worldies.

How much of the problem is klopp and the way we play leaving us exsposed so often?

11 Aug 2017 08:04:08
Our defence struggles massively from set pieces, individual errors and rash decision making. The majority of the games we lost last season we dominated and then conceded with the opposition scoring with very limited possession or chances, whilst we huffed and puffed at the other end. This problem stems back before Klopp and personally I think until we change the personnel who have been playing there it will likely continue.

11 Aug 2017 08:17:28
Ourdefence is shocking at set pieces an a team like man United will expose us this season due to the height in their squad.

11 Aug 2017 08:41:49
To be honest, I've only seen him on the odd occasion, he looks more suited to Italian league or Spanish league football. Great touch, good football brain but seems slow moving and lazy to me. Might be worth a go if reasonably priced. Has anyone heard anything more concrete on this?

11 Aug 2017 08:43:23
Whilst I would agree that our system often leaves the defence exposed, some of the individual errors have just been inexcusable. Klopp can't gameplan for mindlessness.

11 Aug 2017 08:54:22
No question that's been an issue Barrmun and think the team is very aware. towards the latter part of last season we saw Klopp take a far more balanced approach which paid dividends in defence. What it doesn't fully explain however is why we're so poor at defending set pieces, how terrified we are of pace, and how weak we were in the air at times.

Think this year will be better and hopefully Matip stays fit, but still some question to be answered over how quickly Andy settles, whether TAA can grow into a starting role (Clyne is part of the problem IMO) and if we have any injuries at CB how Gomez can step up to provide cover.

That's a lot of reliance on three young players even if very talented. would like to see at least one more top quality defender brought in.

11 Aug 2017 09:05:16
Agree with ings watched him on you tube and it was lowlights not high lights, can't see how he is the next Ronaldinho more like Ronald Mcdonald.

11 Aug 2017 09:33:52
Are we in for another Brazilian to appease Coutinho. Anyone know if their childhood friends. After all we've just lost Lucas who was close to him.

11 Aug 2017 01:20:57
Doesn't he have 3rd party ownership? wouldn't that cause a whole lot of messing around as I think it is against the rules over here. Do the Eds know if the option would be there to buy out the 3rd party owner to? I won't ask about cost because I know you don't like to talk money but it has to be quite expensive.

{Ed002's Note - Yes it would have to be resolved before any transfer to England - Inter has been trying to find a solution.}

BBC South American football correspondent reckons Luan is very very good footballer. Make of that what you want.

11 Aug 2017 10:31:03
@mrShankly - Tim Vickery is a highly regarded journalist and I myself have read a number of articles by him. It is not a guarantee that Luan is a good player - but Vickery is definitely somebody whose opinion carries some weight: he is certainly a better writer as well as a more knowledgable journalist than most at the BBC.

11 Aug 2017 10:48:46
so a BBC correspondent reckons he's a good footballer. Gerrard houllier reckoned bruno cheyrou was a world beater need i say more.

11 Aug 2017 11:13:26
I told a number of people how average Luan is and got mocked. funny how all of a sudden people are thinking the same. He is not good enough for our squad full stop. Kent, solanke, lallana sturridge are all brilliant back ups and better players. I don't believe for a second that klopp is interested in Luan. In more positive news I am absolutely delighted with FSG's statement on coutinho. They deserve some praise after so many 'fans' have called for their head on here.

11 Aug 2017 12:35:05
Luan is average, at best.

11 Aug 2017 13:15:59
So Redsteve, Josh and BingoRed how much have you seen of Luan? Have you watched him regularly over the course of a season (or seasons in Vickery's case)? Or have you browsed a few youtube videos and drawn conclusions from them? Tim Vickery is based in Brazil and a regular commentator on the Brazilian league, it's players, etc etc but your opinions somehow carry more weight? I have no idea about the quality of Luan but I know whose opinion I value more on the player.
