Good morning Ed2, there's talk that Liverpool were open to swapping Nunez with Felix but didn't happen due to Felix wanting Barcelona. Is this something you can substantiate or is it just more lazy journalism. I personally think Nunez is a real handful for defenders and he is going to be a star. Don't get all the negativity around him am glad we have got him. Thanks in advance Ed.

Barr6998

{Ed002's Note - I don't think Liverpool made any such approach to Atletico.}

1.) 06 Sep 2023 11:38:59
Nunez will have a good season, I suspect he will be involved in over 25 goals this season quite easily.

2.) 06 Sep 2023 11:54:50
Can’t see any reason why we’d do something like that, feels like terrible clickbait journalism to me.

3.) 06 Sep 2023 12:16:18
Thank you for your reply Ed.

{Ed002's Note - You are welcome.}

4.) 06 Sep 2023 12:34:15
Fabrizio mentioned this morning that the Liverpool coaches and board view Darwin as 'untouchable'. I'm not saying we should believe everything he says, but there would be no benefit to him making that up. It's hardly click generating.

For me Felix plays a similar role to Gakpo, but Gakpo is a much better player. The idea of Joao Felix is better than the actual product, he's all style no substance.

5.) 06 Sep 2023 19:52:40
I love Nunez, he might miss the occasional chance but so did Owen back in the day. What they have in common is that they keep getting into the positions. So long as Nunez keeps doing that, I think he’s going to be an absolute beast. I love how much he puts the opposition defence on the back foot and scare the life out of them.

6.) 06 Sep 2023 22:31:24
Name one swap deal done by Liverpool in recent times.

7.) 07 Sep 2023 05:15:07
Nunez is absolutely untouchable. we don't have another player like him in the squad.

8.) 07 Sep 2023 07:20:15
Everybody has a price. Nobody’s untouchable.

9.) 08 Sep 2023 15:56:21
Love the Kid, Darwin Nunez is a really good player, causes all sort of problems for other teams.

let down by injuries, red card early last season, and Klopp bringing him on during friendlies when have the first team has been substitued and expecting goals from the lad

I hope he gets a good run and starts a whole load more games to build up his confidence.

Morning ED 02, hope your well and thank you for all the information you constantly provide. Just a question in relation to Nat Philips going on loan to Celtic. Klopp had intimated no more departures. The main players at centre back can be a tad injury prone and I'm just nervous we could end up in the same situation as a couple of seasons ago when Fabinho had to go back there. Is there a chance of a CB coming in at last minute or Klopp is going to give the youngster Quansah a chance. Saw him play for Bristol Rovers at Morecambe last season and he was excellent. Thanks again.

Barr6998

{Ed002's Note - You are right to be worried given what Klopp said and being the final opportunity to add a CB. Quansah may get a chance. It also makes the loan of the left-footed Billy Koumetio look questionable. The problem with adding another is that both Williams and van der Berg are also out on loan so the club could end up overloaded next year. For me, Liverpool should have addressed the CB position earlier and looked to Van der Ver who seemed ideal.}

1.) 01 Sep 2023 10:03:24
Agree re Van de Ven - looks exactly what we needed.

2.) 01 Sep 2023 10:11:28
Klopp has said WE CANT! when asked another adding another cb!

3.) 01 Sep 2023 10:09:21
We re already creaking with CB situation few weeks in. They have to do something today.

Like you say Ed, no way should this have been put on the back burner but we are where we are.

Crossing everything that we have a good CB suprise in store today.

4.) 01 Sep 2023 12:25:47
We have learned nothing from 20/ 21, it seems. As per last season's debacle, this is ALL on Jurgen Klopp.

At the very least we should have kept Sepp VDB as Gomez, Matip and Ibou being injured at the same time is inevitable.

5.) 01 Sep 2023 13:51:40
Hay dub red: He said "we can't" sign a CB just for the weekend. Surely trying to minimize the issue and deflect the question.

6.) 01 Sep 2023 20:51:00
Thanks for your reply Ed ?.

Reading all the remarks that Chelsea have paid over the top for both players. They have done what they had to do to secure them. So looking ahead to the next couple of weeks do we really think that we are not going to have to stump up for players to come in, based on how the farcical events have turned out? To make low offers for Lavia and then offer 10 million over the original price (if this is fact) is ridiculous. Anyway, that's done it's the knock on effect moving forwards I want to make the point on. Clubs around Europe will have taken note of this and no doubt added a few pound signs to players LFC may be interested in. It's clear new players are needed in certain positions and I would imagine the club may, not be panicking, but concerned. The result? going to have to pay over the top for players, just my opinion. Let's see what the rest of the transfer window brings.

Barr6998

1.) 15 Aug 2023 09:03:54
Chelsea have now sorted their midfield for a good ten years. we are light years behind them in succession planning.

2.) 15 Aug 2023 09:13:15
Barr, you make solid points esp in your first paragraph. Personally after we couldn’t get Caicedo, we should have quite simply left it there and not even bothered with Lavia anymore. Going back to him showed desperation and that is a PR red flag right there. Think about it. Someone chased you fir weeks to employ you and you were ready to jump at the chance but you couldn’t agree a package cos they didn’t think you were worth it.

Then they go offer a higher package to someone else, it fails and then they come back to you with the deal you wanted. You would tell them to go fly a kite as well cos you’re going to fell they never wanted you to start with, just like Lavia does. Hopefully the club will learn from this episode.

Now to the future, we will have to overpay for whoever we want to get now at DM and at CB cos we have shown that we have money burning a hole in our pockets right now, as you have said. Over to the club to get it done.

I really can't believe the negative hype around Darwin Nunez from the media and some so called experts. He arrived to join the squad just in time to fly out to Thailand for the Man Utd game. Plays a small part in that game and the Palace game and he's being written off as a failure already with very little pre season behind him! I can understand it by rival fans as they desperately want him to be a failure but people who should know better are going to be left with a considerable amount of egg on their faces.

Barr6998

1.) 18 Jul 2022 22:50:10
Not worth reading or thinking about those pointless opinion. I believe the term is clickbait here.

2.) 18 Jul 2022 23:01:18
It is nearly impossible to not be a success in this Liverpool side besides Naby or through injury. These people should know this by now, if Nunez can’t perform under Klopp and with these players I would be amazed. They are all just hoping it so more than basing it on anything substantial. I think we will blow everyone away this coming season and continue to dumbfound, amaze and upset people/ pundits.

3.) 18 Jul 2022 23:16:56
It happens, and will continue to happen because people forget what they've just read a few minutes ago because of the sheer bombardment of "noise" out there from morning to night. I doubt anyone even knows what the concept of "egg on the face" is anymore. Nobody feels answerable to anyone anymore.

Welcome to the digital age. Where everyone with a data line or access (with a keyboard or a mic) also has a voice that they use to project absolutely anything. Andy Warhol was right in saying "Everyone will be famous for 15 minutes". But he was wrong in thinking it was once in a lifetime. It's virtually every day that you can seek fame now, and it's working for so many people.

4.) 18 Jul 2022 23:27:08
Nobody takes preseason too seriously if that's the case we should just hand over the Premier league trophy to utd.

5.) 19 Jul 2022 00:21:25
Our fans will be doing the same if Haaland goes 3 games without scoring. There will be articles popping up everywhere because news corporations know Utd and Liverpool fans will read anything against City.

6.) 19 Jul 2022 04:48:12
If he’d buried those chances then our people would be talking about him like he’s Suarez. General rule of thumb is to try not get too high or low with anything Liverpool related, it’s better for the blood pressure lol.

7.) 19 Jul 2022 06:03:06
On the grand scheme of things does it really matter what other fans or pundits think.

We as LFC fans always have an opinion on other teams signings and we regularly give it big fish in a small pond or give some some banter.

In recent weeks we’ve given it to Chelsea for signing Sterling and Koulibaly and some have even suggested Haaland will flop but it’s just part and parcel of football.

We can’t always give it and then play the victim when we have it back.

{Ed014's Note - because if you do you’ll be like United fans and you defo don’t want that.

8.) 19 Jul 2022 07:51:17
Not arsed about what other fans say about “insert LFC player here”. Nor do I care if other clubs’ signings flop or not. Focus on yourself, your players and your club. If you do that, nothing else should matter.

9.) 19 Jul 2022 09:51:58
Nunez might not even feature that much early in the season, as we know Klopp likes to bed players in. he might score 2 goals before Christmas, then go on a run and score 20. Success or failure can only be deemed after an event has happened.

10.) 19 Jul 2022 10:29:52
This ridiculous noise is the result of two things:- Firstly, United missing out on the player to their (traditionally) biggest rival, Liverpool. Secondly, Liverpool breaking their model and signing a player for £70m+ without selling a big name to fund it. Those two things are boiling the proverbial. And we love to see it!

On Darwin. For me, he's a project. He will score goals but he has some refining of his game to do. The good news is, he's a South American streetfighter and is surrounded by great pros (including fellow South Americans), coaches and a world class training environment. As long as he can avoid serious injuries, there's no reason he cannot evolve into one the best forwards in the game.

11.) 19 Jul 2022 10:44:26
FlyPelicanFly we did sell mane isn't he a big name?

12.) 19 Jul 2022 11:08:58
C0ffan - agree that he is technically a big name (and legend) that was sold, although maybe not for a fee we'd ordinarily value him at due to age and contract length. But you're right.

13.) 19 Jul 2022 11:35:19
I love it when other fans do stuff like this - it’s mostly them just showing they are worried because they suspect the player is good. Everybody outside of Liverpool fans would want to play down how good he is. In the same way everybody outside of Man City would want to play down how good Harland. Ishtar be and in the same way that everybody outside Man United fans plays down how good Maguire is. Well perhaps not the last one as Harry is abysmal but you get what I mean?

People don’t want other clubs’ players to be good. It’s always been the case and always will. It has no real bearing on what the player is actually capable of doing.

14.) 19 Jul 2022 12:21:09
Now Ed014 you know we are not allowed to talk or think about U"*+#d otherwise Stand will be onto us again mate?.

{Ed014's Note - and it will show you’re worried about them, apparently ??

I’ve just read Martial is like a new signing, I can already see them as Champions! ?‍♂️?

15.) 19 Jul 2022 16:11:11
He is a unnecessarily expensive signing though. We did not need a striker as such.

16.) 19 Jul 2022 16:33:35
Spot on, West Derby Wanderer. If your rivals ain't talking about you nor do not fear you, you're not relevant. We should see them squirming at what Nunes or LFC could do this season, as a compliment. I guess the rest of us are easily triggered into falling for rival fans' tweets.

17.) 20 Jul 2022 16:38:44
All the media hype is about how good Haaland will be but jury is out on Nunez. Both prolific at their previous clubs last season. Similar players in that they both like to run in behind. City and us will both have to adjust the way we play. Only time will tell what ends up happening w both but from the looks of Nunez so far, he's quick, powerful, physical, has a good shot, is getting into good positions and is working hard. No guarantees for either of them but given time I'm sure both will add viewing value to the PL. Just hope Nunez comes out on top.

Hello fellow posters and supporters of the F A CUP WINNERS 2022! Oh and the Carabeo cup and UCL finalists. Get in, CRIKEY I LOVE THIS CLUB. The league, realistically it's City's but I live in hope (yes I'm greedy after years of Zilch, Nada, Nothing prior to Jurgen's arrival)
Now with all the success comes comparisons of teams gone by, is this the best LFC team ever? How does it compare to the teams of the 70's, 80's etc etc. I have supported the team since the 1970's and experienced the highs and lows. My thoughts are how do you actually compare the teams of today against the teams of the older era's?
The game has evolved in such a way that the current players have to be athletes. Compare that to the many years ago and this was not always the case. I remember watching Alan Hansen on many an occasion gracefully skipping upfield from the back in conditions that Joel M probably would not relish! . Some players smoked, alcohol was more prevalent in the earlier days but since the introduction of sports science and modern technology, including supreme playing surfaces in the current day overall quality has improved imo.
So what's my point you may ask. I tend not to compare the successful teams of the earlier years against the current successes. You could argue that players were more skilful years ago due to the pitches not being of todays standards etc etc.
For me personally it comes down to enjoyment. How much do I enjoy supporting and watching my club competing. I have to say I enjoy the current successes as much as I enjoyed the early successes. I honestly can't compare the teams due to the massive changes in the game. Throughout the years players have given me outrages enjoyment, one of my favourites being David "super sub" Fairclough remember him folks? I always enjoy LFC but it's just that some times are better than others. AND BY HECK IM going to ENJOY THESE TIMES! I've no doubt in years to come there will be comparisons against the current incredible group of players, manager, back room staff etc. My take on it will be, should I live to a ripe old age lol, I can't COMPARE BUT BLOODY HELL I ENJOYED THE RIDE! UCL here we come 👍.

What a great achievement 3rd place is all things considered. My apologies if I have missed something Eds, in relation to Gini, his comments at the end of the game regarding "was hoping to play for the club for many more years" coupled with Klopp's praise of him suggest there has not been a breakdown in relations. Is he moving on because a solution to a new contract could not be found? Or is he just seeking a new challenge? Either way good luck to him in the future and I'm sure his stint at the club is much appreciated by many.

Barr6998

{Ed0666's Note - I think he wanted a better contract than LFC were willing to give him

1.) 23 May 2021 20:29:24
Deffo seems like a money issue which is a shame considering naby is on more money and never fit. Maybe if we find a buyer for some of the players we want to move on ASAP then we could offer him money to stay. Although I'd like to see what gruijic can do in this midfield.

2.) 23 May 2021 20:49:30
I think it was the length of contract offered? Can any of the ex’s shed any light on what is the problem?

{Ed0666's Note - length of contract and wages I think. Who cares he’s off and let’s wish him the best of luck and remember the good times which there were gazillions

3.) 23 May 2021 21:16:22
absolutely Ed, good luck to him. thank him for his service.

{Ed0666's Note - 👍

4.) 23 May 2021 21:36:26
I hope everyone who said Wijnaldum had downed tools has the balls to admit they were wrong about him. The pre match comments from Klopp, the fact that he picked him almost every game and the love he got from his teammates shows how appreciated he is within the club.

5.) 23 May 2021 22:13:36
Oh my god, are we still going to go over this?

I don’t need to read the match programme to know if Wijnaldum downed tools or not. Klopp isn’t going to slag him off on his final game for Liverpool. He deserves the applause and a good send off, which he got, but how does the manager and players being grown ups and ending on a positive note negate the fact that he hasn’t played properly in months.

I don’t need Klopp or the players to tell me what i’ve been watching since Christmas, I can use my own two eyes. I think it’s more indicative of the character of Klopp and the players that they were as lovely as they were. Gini didn’t seem too bothered and then proceeded to basically bait and slag the club off in the post match interview.

Made it sound as if he’d been the victim of a huge scandal, ‘the fans deserve to know my story’ give me a break. You wanted a better than contract than what you were worth and then cried and sulked about it when all anyone else wanted was to end on a high note.

I thank Gini for his service but it is to move on i’m afraid.

6.) 23 May 2021 22:19:49
I wouldn't say downed tools but he can sometimes be totally ineffective and linger too much. There are better midfielders out there that can do an equal if not better job for us BUT he has fully earned my respect because he didn't leave like a **** like some other players.

{Ed0666's Note - please tell me a better midfielder in the role Gini Gini does for us better than Gini when he plays his absolute best?

7.) 23 May 2021 21:50:39
You only need to watch the game back today and compare Thiago's performance with Wijnaldum's. One was always showing for the ball, the other was always positioned behind a CP player so that the pass wasn't on. Even when young Rhys Williams was struggling to play out from the back, the nearest player to him (and captain of the team no less) was nowhere to be seen to help him out. If that doesn't demonstrate to you that he has downed tools, I'm not sure what will. I admit that I am no master tactician and that I only noticed this because I was looking for it, after Ed001's recent analyses, but it's true.

8.) 23 May 2021 23:53:13
Let’s not go overboard on Gini. Fabs, Hendo have been far better. And in Zhini is a legend so are 100 others.

19 May 2021 17:10:50
Two wins and Champions league football next year. In my opinion that is a massive achievement considering the trials and tribulations of the season. Horrendous injury list in vital areas, especially at the back has affected form/ performances without doubt. I said it months ago when he first came in Philips has been outstanding and played to his strengths. As proud as I was of the team for their achievements over recent seasons, I will be equally proud come the end of the season, even if champions league is not achieved. The players have given their all, in general, and to be battling for CL qualification in spite of the injuries is a great effort. Let's hope the boys finish the job. Congratulations to Man City for a superb season and to Leicester for winning the FA cup. Now to position myself on the edge of the settee! 🤞🤞.

I’ve been a supporter since 1970 Barry and have witnessed the years of domestic and European domination and then for that glory to end and then watch as Utd took over. Fair play, they played great football, were good to watch (hell that hurt just typing it! ) and deserved their success. So the last few years has been brilliant, not only the success, but also the high tempo, energetic and devastating brand of football Klopp has instilled into the team. It has been obvious for all to see that all the squad was loving playing for the team and that the players were a close knit bunch. And that’s why I am super confident that things will turn around. The Leicester result was not a poor overall performance, it was a poor last 20 minutes, City didn’t dominate us and again, a period in the game cost us as a result of mistakes. I believe we will go on a little run, which will in turn boost confidence.

Top post Greeny mate. It hurt like hell seeing Utd be so successful but success they thoroughly deserved due to your style of attacking football and never say die attitude, hence the reason for so many winners in “Fergie time” lol. I see the same mentality with the current Liverpool team who just don’t know when we are beat. Let’s see what tomorrow brings 😬😬😥.

I really don’t care who it is. We beat Bayern away from home and Barcelona at home after being 3-0 down. We have lost only 1 game in the league all season. Confidence is sky high and growing. Let’s do this!
