Really sad news about Jack Carlton this morning. Great memories of some big wins for his Ireland team between euro 88 and USA 94.

A sad day indeed. A great innings and it seems he brought a lot of joy to an incredible amount of people. Some achievement. Another one who was overlooked for a thoroughly deserved knighthood.

2.) 11 Jul 2020 13:05:09
Very much so, great player too.
Beloved in England and Ireland, which is not easy to do.
Ed001 did a cracking piece on him last year, which is worth looking up.

{Ed001's Note - this one? He is one of my heroes is Jack Charlton, larger than life character who will be much missed.}

3.) 11 Jul 2020 14:54:29
Itaila 90 my God the whole country was in a drunken stupor, great memories all thanks to Big Jack RIP.

4.) 11 Jul 2020 15:32:33
Sad that the 2 brothers ended up not speaking to each other Ed001. Hopefully they had the opportunity to sort their differences before Jack's death.
He certainly changed the Republic of Ireland's fortunes. Top footballer also. RIP.

{Ed001's Note - they sorted it out a while back mate.}

5.) 11 Jul 2020 17:22:30
That's good.

Anyone seen the Maradona film? It doesn’t shed any new light but I was trying to explain to my wife that he lived such a wild lifestyle at the peak of his powers but was still easily the best player in the world. The defending in Italy at the time was both frighteningly brilliant and shockingly nasty. Imagine how good he could have been if it wasn’t for his off the field lifestyle.

1.) 20 Apr 2020 11:55:35
Very true he was a magician, just imagine him on the luscious grass of anfield . He like george best got chopped too death plus they played on farm yards for pitches at times .

2.) 20 Apr 2020 14:56:58
Messi and Ronaldo are not fit to even carry Don Diego's toilet bag to the DR. In this era, Diego would run games in his flip-flops and stroll thru games, he was that great. none of the stars of today would have survived the brutality that Claudio Gentile handed out to Diego in the 1982 WC and STILL, Diego bossed games for fun near thru out his career.

The guy was named the god of football for a reason. Anyone saying either Messi or Ronaldo is the GOAT's, is just showing his/ her age and showing how wet behind the ears he/ she is. El Diez, Forever.

3.) 20 Apr 2020 17:53:07
Johan Cruyff for me.

4.) 20 Apr 2020 21:34:18
I don’t get this Messi not fit to tie Maradona laces nonsense. Different eras. Pros and cons for both. Maradona was a flawed genius. Messi is a genius without the same type of flaws.

I’ve been lucky enough to see both live. Both get fouled constantly. Both run games on own. But less of the Messi bashing because I can assure you he’s breath taking to watch and his finishing is unnerving. He gets fouled and fouled and rarely complains. And his goals tally is remarkable.

Both are greats but Messi has edge for me. Ronaldo not in same league as ex team mate Beckham admitted.

Ps Maradona movie a good watch.

5.) 20 Apr 2020 21:50:32
Good shout, Juicer.

6.) 21 Apr 2020 05:07:46
lol if you think Messi rarely complains you prob need to watch more of his games.

{Ed001's Note - and if he thinks the fouls on Messi are anything like the fouls the likes of Maradona had to endure then he has no idea about the game at all.}

7.) 21 Apr 2020 09:22:01
Messi plays on bowling greens with low-contact rules applied by refs. Both the balls and the boots now are lightweight and are 20 years advanced by technology and design.
I would put Leo in the second tier of greatest ever players along with Cruyff, Best, Chubby Ronaldo, Zidane, etc. there's only two players arguing about being the G.O.A.T. and i never watched Pele so, for me, it is Diego Maradona.

8.) 21 Apr 2020 16:15:33
1jj, "Both get fouled constantly". That is a sick joke. Messi gets fouled. Diego got absolutely brutalized and assaulted on the pitch, end of. If that is your stance then you clearly NEVER watched Diego play cos if you did, you would never have made such a statement. I invite you to go and watch that WC 1982 game between Italy and Argentina where the infamous Claudio Gentile (Italian defender) followed Diego everywhere he went and assaulted him near every time.

Diego complained incessantly to the ref but the ref let it go. Finally, Diego had had enuff of being assaulted and kicked Gentile in the gonads and got sent off. And I have not even mentioned what Goikotchea (The Butcher of Bilbao) did to Diego when he first arrived at Barca. Neither will I even mention the brutal treatment the Italian defenders put him thru all thru his Serie A career.

N btw, nobody is bashing Messi. No one said he was crap so enuff with all that. We are just saying he is not in Diego's league and had Diego played in this era with the same level of protection from the establishment and refs, he would make Messi look like a joke.

Ed01 said it best, "if he thinks the fouls on Messi are anything like the fouls the likes of Maradona had to endure then he has no idea about the game at all. "

{Ed001's Note - it was vicious in Maradona's day. Nowadays they get much better protection, as they should have done then.}

9.) 21 Apr 2020 20:15:11
I've watched Pele, Maradona and the current generation play. There's a clear gulf between Pele, Maradona and Cruyff, and the rest. With Pele being the best ever. Maradona is very close to Pele, in my opinion; if only he had paid more attention to a healthier and more "stable" lifestyle. He could have achieved more and perhaps even overtaken Pele.

Hi all. I'm currently working from home and I work nights. I am really annoyed at how many people who are ignoring the lock down laws. Between 4-5 this morning I counted 9 people walk past my house. Some dressed in pyjamas so were obviously not going to work. Then some walk past with blue bags so obviously had to catch the offy before it closes at 5. After the amount of deaths and confirmed cases shot up yesterday I really hope people start taking this situation more seriously.

Bazzybum

{Ed002's Note - At present folks can still leave the house to take some exercise (I suspect that might change at some point) - and there is no dress code.}

1.) 28 Mar 2020 14:32:10
Give it a week and we will all be confined to barracks 😐.

A few of my friends have been discussing where the league can be won. Whilst it’s amazing to be having this discussion after not winning the league for so long, my thoughts are I’d prefer to win it at home just so that more people can be there to witness it. How about other people’s preference?

Bazzybum

1.) 07 Feb 2020 03:45:00
To win it at Goodison park would be awesome obviously.
However I expect the home game vs crystal palace to be the match that confirms the long wait is finally over.
What a atmosphere a packed Anfield would bring.
I cannot wait for it to happen.

2.) 07 Feb 2020 04:29:21
At home.

3.) 07 Feb 2020 06:49:18
I just hope (if) we win it, it’s not one of those annoying watching man city lose on tv matches. All I want is that final whistle moment.

4.) 07 Feb 2020 06:58:54
Just win it!

5.) 07 Feb 2020 08:51:52
Aoe - spot on. The way the fixtures are set up it could well be decided before or after we are on the pitch. With a potential FA cup game replacing a league fixture who knows when it could be.

My personal preference would be to win it at City. Just to rub their nose in it it that little bit more.

6.) 07 Feb 2020 10:31:56
I'd like to do it in Manchester. Rubs both manc teams up the wrong way. City obviously, but shows how insignificant utd have become.

But its true, we haven't won it yet. Its highly highly likely. I just wish we weren't banking it just yet.

7.) 07 Feb 2020 10:42:01
Does not really matter as to where but more so when it is going g to happen apart from the moon falling on top of earth wherever its won it will be impossible to obtain a ticket more chance of Everton getting into the champions league.

8.) 07 Feb 2020 11:08:40
Win it and don't let up until the 49 game record is beaten also. Yeah, I'm greedy. That's life.

9.) 07 Feb 2020 11:30:08
ArAy. If you’re going to be greedy then surely Invincible Centurions is the target.

10.) 07 Feb 2020 13:31:54
Oh god i dunno what I'll do at that whistle!

11.) 07 Feb 2020 14:23:35
For me, just win it anywhere, haha.

12.) 07 Feb 2020 15:26:13
Invincibles is the name ofcthe Arsenal team that although unbeaten were not really a great team. Liverpool are an incredible team so if they do go undefeated they should be called the Incredible Unbeatables.

13.) 07 Feb 2020 16:35:28
The whole dynamic of the modern Liverpool fan will change the day we win it. There is a certain romance to being nearly men. I'm not sure how I'm going to react but I suspect I'm going to become really big headed. And then we have to worry about retaining it.

14.) 07 Feb 2020 18:18:25
Ra, the 49 game record is going to be beaten before we become win the league undefeated. We're already on 42 and there's 13 league games to go ;-)

15.) 07 Feb 2020 18:19:14
I don't want us to win it at Goodison Park. I'd much rather it is won at home.

If it was finalised away to Everton, I fear that it could end up being remembered for all of the wrong reasons, as there'd no doubt be a lot of trouble, and nothing should be allowed to taint what an amazing achievement this season has been for the club.

16.) 08 Feb 2020 04:08:54
I don't give a toss about winning it at goodison or the etihad just so we can be taunting and rubbing their nose in it? For me i want to see anfield packed with 50000 reds proudly blasting YNWA arm in arm full of teary eyes for the first time as league champions in 30 years and to see the players and staff party infront of the bouncing kop.

If you'd rather win it away from anfield with a small group of supporters in a rival stadium then I think you're not enjoying this league success for 100% the right things. Yes bragging rights is nice over rivals but for me it's far back in my thoughts when I dream of how this magic will unfold.

Adrian’s cult status reminds me of Erik Meijer and the relationship he had with some Liverpool fans. He was the type of player who celebrated winning a throw in in the opposition half almost as much as a goal and you can see that Adrian is enjoying his time at the club as much as Mad Erik did. He’s done an excellent job and if he does leave then will be fondly remembered.

Yes definitely. He may have left in difficult circumstances but there is no doubt he’s been outstanding in the main. I know he has off patches but he would challenge Mane and Salah. Also except for standing up for one of his team mates I have been very impressed with his views on racism and how humble and knowledgeable he has been on the abuse that some players have received.

United won everything that season but I don’t think it was their greatest team. We should have knocked them out in round 4 of the fa cup but a never foul free kick then a defensive collapse cost us. I think Dwight Yorke as a challenge for Firminho would be interesting. He’s the only one though. Just because I don’t think many of the players they had then would suit our current style.

GK Allison
CB Hansen
CB Virgil
RB Nicol
LB Robertson
CM Souness
CM Alonso
CM Gerrard
CF Barnes
CF Rush
CF Fowler

I let sentiment get the better of me and put Robbie I’m ahead of Rush but I still think he would be prolific playing in that team.

John Barnes used to nutmeg the cones in training.

Robbiesline I think he looks boss in fits and spurts but doesn’t do it for 90 minutes. If you look at Mane he’s at it none stop for the whole game whereas Shaq just seems to want the ball where he can do damage. He’s obviously talented though and in my opinion was a good signing.
