Absolutely baffled by the Wijnaldum and Klavan news. Wijnaldum is nothing more than average, goes missing far too often and plays for himself rather than the team. Then there's Klavan. Where is the logic in letting Kolo go to then spend 4m on a 30 year old to sit on the bench?

Gandhi-Floss

1.) 17 Jul 2016 23:06:46
Yep, two players not worth £30m combined. Neither good enough. Sorry message to the up and coming doing well preseason. Do not need another attacking midfielder, unless Coutinho is still going and another two.

2.) 17 Jul 2016 23:14:28
Jeez why are people whinging the guy klavan has played over 100 internationals and was solid against us in Europe both legs would you rather skrtel? Toure come on? These are the reasons our defence was atrocious last year because of these types of players we need this shake up with experience and arieal ability and to rid the team of the mental instability that spread through the team last year.
So many people saying GW is a bad move I don't agree like I said before I think he will be a big hit but I guess we will have to see on that one.

3.) 17 Jul 2016 23:29:49
Klavan I know nothing about and have no opinion to offer. But Wijndum is a huge waste of money and would be gutted if we wasted money on him.

4.) 17 Jul 2016 23:40:06
Actually our defence was poor because it was in front of a hopeless goalkeeper and featured two full backs hopeless at defending. Kolo actually had a very strong season and was arguably our best player in the EL final. Just doesn't make sense to get rid of him, with all his Premier league experience and bring in a 30 year old with none.

5.) 17 Jul 2016 23:57:40
Lucky digit I would definitely have preferred keeping kolo. Kolo is far more established than this guy and have played basically his whole career in the premier league. Last season after we where down to the bare bones in CB he was one of our better players. Never seen this guy klavan but it's just all a bit odd. Just very odd decisions in the transfer market and I've said this pretty much all summer and I've been slated by some of the posters and you know who. Now the evidence is right in there face.

6.) 18 Jul 2016 00:29:41
Kolo toure has 6 years on him toure is well past his best would prob do a job in Scotland. He has addressed the goalkeeper and looks like he's looking at different full back options. But getting your knickers in a twist over a player who is a direct replacement for skrtel he knows well from Germany and is prob on half the wages with more international experience is just nit picking.

7.) 18 Jul 2016 05:43:44
Just read that Klavan can play at left back. If he really can, for 4mil, covering two areas, that seems like a good deal to me.

8.) 18 Jul 2016 14:10:54
Well, don`t know much about Klavan BUT he was more than solid against us in the EL game so I will trust Klopp on this one as he has known him from his time in Germany. Also, he can play LB too by all accounts hence, we have killed two birds with one stone. I loved Kolo and thought he was great last season when called upon but seriously, he`s 36 and not getting any younger. As for Wijnaldum, it is just clueless and I don`t think Klopp would want such an awful player who got dropped from a more than poor Newcastle team.

New rumours suggesting we will be making a move for Thomas Vermaelen in the summer. I hope not he's weak and injury prone, not what we need considering we struggle so much with set pieces!
Do you know of any truth with this ed002?

Gandhi-Floss

{Ed002's Note - Besiktas would like to take Barcelona's Thomas Vermaelen this summer but have concerns over his injuries. West Ham and AEK have watched Vermaelen but neither has taken it further. The player would like a return to England.}

1.) 27 Apr 2016 17:09:37
If we could find a way to keep him fit then he's a real quality and commanding CB. Was he injured a lot, or was it one bad long term injury?

{Ed002's Note - There are these pills you can get ...}

2.) 27 Apr 2016 17:29:25
Yeah sakho got some of them pills look what's happened to him.

3.) 27 Apr 2016 18:26:16
Don't besiktas want skrtel?

4.) 27 Apr 2016 18:45:16
Classic eds!

5.) 27 Apr 2016 20:32:04
I think it would need more than pills ed 😂😂😂😂.

Hello ed1, what alternatives to vvd would you personally like Liverpool to pursue? I haven't seen much of Manolas or Koulibailly so not sure if they're an upgrade on what we have. Romagnoli looks good though and he's left sided.

Gandhi-Floss

{Ed001's Note - I wouldn't. I would rather we bought full backs this season.}

1.) 04 Jul 2017 10:24:30
Spot on, Ed. VVD will not solve our glaring issues at FB and by the way, CB is not where we need the most upgrade. It is at both FB positions.

2.) 04 Jul 2017 11:07:46
didnt Ed (dont know how it was exactly) say that we didn't look into buying a CB just VVD? I think with matip, lovren, Klavan, Gomez our CB are allright.

3.) 04 Jul 2017 11:46:51
If it was up to me, I'd sign a new RB, LB and a CB.

4.) 04 Jul 2017 12:29:59
CB is our biggest problem by a mile, Matip is good but Lovren is not CL level and has been found out on so many occasions and our defensive problems will continue as long as he is first choice. Yes we need a new LB but how many goals last year can you say Milner was largely responsible for conceding? Compare that with Lovren and it's blatantly obvious that we need a new CB as our priority whatever the cost.

A natural left footed LB will help our offensive game hugely but going forward wasn't our biggest issue last year, conceding stupid goals due to basic defending errors was and as much as a new LB is important, a CB has to be the priority for me.

07 Jun 2017 11:54:21
Surely there's nothing in these Martins rumours, a right-footed right winger who will be more expensive than Salah and has a considerably worse goal return in a weaker league. I think the story originates from Sky so maybe they want some bets coming in!

Any chance of an updated premier league team of the season ed001?

Gandhi-Floss

{Ed001's Note - yes mate, I will do it in the close season.}

20 Mar 2017 12:39:14
What article is next for the world's best ed001? Need something to interest me during the international break mate!

Gandhi-Floss

{Ed001's Note - I don't know mate. I am open to suggestions now. I have been busy sorting out my visa up until now so haven't thought about it. I will probably do managers next.}

1.) 20 Mar 2017 13:45:17
You could write about Midfielders. That will open up plenty of brains on the site.

{Ed001's Note - need to do something as I hate international breaks!}

2.) 20 Mar 2017 15:42:47
Its a good thing you are past denial Harry!

3.) 20 Mar 2017 14:56:05
ed001 if you do pick managers could you do the best and also those that are overated? would love to read your thoughts on this subject, thanks mate.

{Ed001's Note - ok mate, I will add overrated in to the list too.}

4.) 20 Mar 2017 14:57:56
Hi Ed1,

I always wanted to know the level / standards of educations the players have in each of the top leagues - English, La Liga, German, France .

If there is an existing site, you can point to the site or you can take it as to do if interested.

I am trying to understand if basic / decent education has any link with tactical awareness and understanding of the game.

Spain and Germany are doing great at international levels and would be interesting to know if this has any relevance to the players being better educated.

Is it worth a topic?

Cheers.

{Ed001's Note - the academy players receive a very decent school level education. Man City, as an example, give a very expensive private education to their academy players, which attracted a number of their youth team lads.}

5.) 20 Mar 2017 16:17:52
thanks ed001 I look forward to reading that.

{Ed001's Note - I hope it lives up to expectations then in that case!}

6.) 20 Mar 2017 17:34:06
How about the dark world of S&M Ed?

{Ed001's Note - you would need Ed003 for that mate. Now the dark world of M&Ms and you have the right man!}

7.) 20 Mar 2017 18:43:21
So does it mean the professional footballers aren't much educated at all. I mean like a basic science degree or engineering or any masters' degree.

Always read that Frank Lampard had high IQ levels but not sure if he had basic degree to follow it up.

Cheers.

{Ed002's Note - Most professional footballers are dumb as a box of rocks. Some are brighter, some are very bright and can hold their own with grown ups and some are even good company socially. But generally, and particularly in England, dumb as a box of rocks.}

8.) 20 Mar 2017 19:57:01
Very scary to hear.

Is it just football like that or all other sports?

How can they understand the tactical awareness / technicalities if they are really so dumb?

Is this one of the reasons why England is behind in internal scene?

Does it mean Span/ German teams is better off with minimum/ higher level of literacy?

Cheers.

{Ed002's Note - (a) Footballers are towards the bottom of the scale of animal life - few other sports have dropped to such depths although a number of East Coast baseball players from Boston and New York are giving them a run or their money. Boxers and people who fight are also generally far from the brightest - otherwise they would chose not to earn a living being punched in the head all of the time. (b) If you demonstrate and shout the same thing often enough footballers will learn simple repetive tasks. (c) No, it has no impact on the abilities of England to fail or succeed at football. (d) No, it is irrelevant.}

9.) 20 Mar 2017 20:28:16
Haha deadly Ed.

10.) 20 Mar 2017 20:55:51
I know i'd appreciate a world's best central midfielders list. Other than that an article on the world's most overrated and underrated players of the past 10 years or so would be interesting!

11.) 20 Mar 2017 21:34:05
Lfc academy is paired with rainhill high school I believe, school I attended and is highly thought off. Most of which happened after I left but I believe the club pumped a fair chunk of change into the school also for devolopments onsite.

12.) 20 Mar 2017 23:20:30
I'd love to hear your thoughts on how well systems can be replicated across different parts of the world. for example, I saw someone laud the work that Zorc has done at Dortmund and identifying youngsters etc. but could Zorc do that in the prem league, given that there is so much more money in the premier league and how does that effect the kind of yougnsters that end up in the prem? If it was just about money, then surely the yougnsters at dortmund would have been snapped up by the bigger clubs who could pay more? or does dortmund pay crazy wages for their players?
any who, the article topic would be about how the dynamics of a country's culture and the culture of their league impact on the development of a football club's identity. cheers :)

{Ed002's Note - It is never as simple as shifting an entire structure to another league. Zorc fitted Dortmund and Monchi Seville. You cannot pick them up and throw them in to Stoke and expect miracles. One doesn't want to be cliched and say "horses for courses" but clubs need to build a purposeful structure that suits their needs - you throw Messi in to Manchester United and it is disruptive - as an example. You are to some extent correct in mentioning culture - it is a big deal and you can take some great players and managers and coaches and shift them to somewhere it rains, they have totally different food, there is a language issue etc., and it it won't work. Putting Monchi, Klopp and Firmino in China won't work at all - all decent at their jobs, but a paradigm shift from the comfort zone they are used to. In the premier league, Zorc could likely slip in of course.}

You told me to remind you about writing up a best cb's in the world article a couple of weeks ago ed001. Would be appreciated mate if you have the time.

Gandhi-Floss

{Ed001's Note - I will get started on it now.}

1.) 17 Feb 2017 10:30:53
Don't forget Sotirios Kyrgiakos!

2.) 17 Feb 2017 11:56:17
Is Titus bramble still playing.

3.) 17 Feb 2017 11:41:48
Coates overhead vs qpr. that's up there with the greek conans beard.

4.) 17 Feb 2017 13:02:27
Torbin Piechnik the other Danish legend.

5.) 17 Feb 2017 18:24:15
Forget any of the players mentioned. Anyone remember Mauricio Pellegrino?

6.) 17 Feb 2017 19:14:03
Max that was out of order😁.

7.) 17 Feb 2017 23:17:36
Glen Hysen, Kvarme, Ruddock, Babb, Traore . I could go on. 😎.

8.) 18 Feb 2017 00:06:24
The little odd one out is Glenn Hysen because he could actually play.

Surprises me slightly, he was the golden boy last year and from the clips I've seen I've been impressed. He'd add energy, ability and a physical presence. I once saw him send Hulk flying vs zenit!

I wondered why we'd go all out for VVD, Salah and possibly Keita but not Mendy, turns out he's one of two players ed001 wants. Thanks a lot ed.

Can the eds clarify when the busiest this site has ever been was and what signing/ news caused it? The vvd tapping up news caused it to be busier than I've seen in a long time, I also remember there being loads of posts when we sold Torres.

He can't predict outcomes like this, nobody can. Seems as though Saints discovered the tapping up through a leak within the club somewhere, which rightly annoyed them and effectively ended any chance of a deal. That's my understanding though I could be wrong, hopefully the eds can soon clarify.

Robertson is a worry, even if we do manage to sign a top centre back they will always look average if the fullbacks are Clyne and Roberston!
