Do you guys remember back in 13/ 14 when LFC hired Dr Steve Peters as a mental coach? I got the impression he helped a lot of players sort their minds out and handle the pressure a lot better. After he quit the job i get the impression that for every year that goes by this problem is getting more and more vital again. I think for sure our goalkeepers and most of the backline could use a mental coach. But i don't have inside information, so i can't say for sure how this matter is dealt with in the staff. Can any of you Eds share some light on this?

Grobbelaar

{Ed001's Note - I don't actually know if there is anyone specific dealing with this area sorry.}

Coming from Grobelaar it’s a great question.

Personally while I think it’s a key aspect of the game, Klopp has done a great deal for the belief of the players simply by showing faith in them and acknowledging that mistakes are made and the answer is development and training, not always transfers. Also with a clearly defined style of play, it’s increasingly obvious they now trust the system and each other to execute.

The one remaining issue is defensively Aa.

2.) 17 Jan 2018 12:12:38
Sorry sent before finishing.

I think the defence is still the exception, especially when we’re at risk of giving away a lead as we’ve capitulated so many times before and that leaves scars, but with VVD in now, and Karius (and perhaps a top keeper in the summer) to improve communication and organisation, I feel we will get better there too. The sides certainly plays with a better balance between defence and attack which helps and slowly you can feel the defence panicking less and less often when under pressure IMO.

3.) 17 Jan 2018 12:47:40
The way Klopp jumps around the sideline sometimes I think they have a mental coach! But in a good way 😁.

4.) 17 Jan 2018 12:55:14
I actually was thinking this a little while back, it seemed like a pioneering move that really worked for us and I'm surprised we didn't seem to continue it and other clubs haven't really picked it up - especially with the slightly increased concerns about mental welfare in sports.

Today a new name popped up in the rumour mill. Alejandro Gomez, Atalanta. Do any of you eds or anybody else seen this guy playing? What i have read he has developed a lot last three years and so far this season he has been carrying Atalanta who are having a pretty good campaign so far. The rumour comes from Tuttosport so i don't know how much to put into it, but maybe he is the surprise player we got hints about Klopp looking at?

Grobbelaar

{Ed001's Note - I have seen a fair bit and he has stood out but he is by no means carrying Atalanta at all.}

1.) 10 Jan 2018 12:03:49
Okey cheers for the reply ed001! I have not seen him play myself so take your word for it. Looked at him a bit on youtube, seems to have a lot of pace and dribble skills. Like the kind of guy who whould be a real threat in counterattacks and like Coutinho could break trough organized defenses (wich LFC face often) . But yet again how much does a youtube video say. Aquilani looked absolute brilliant too.
You reckon Gomez is on the level of being a starting player at Liverpool? Compared with for instance Lallana or Oxlaide?

{Ed001's Note - I would say he is good enough, from what I have seen.}

2.) 10 Jan 2018 17:28:13
Blimey, they have around 45-50 players out on loan this season according to their Wiki page!

The Chelsea of Italy?!

Hi eds. Im hearing rumours about Barcelona wanting to sell Suarez. Do you know if there is any truth in that? And if so are Liverpool interested in bringing him back to Anfield?

Grobbelaar

{Ed002's Note - If you look on the European pages or the Barcelona page you will see I have explained for months about him being available in the summer. It is nothing to do with Liverpool.}

1.) 07 Jan 2018 17:17:34
I'd be trying to get him back. He's only 30 that is 2/ 3 years at the top. Probably more time than Salah will be at Liverpool but we'd have to get him now not summer.
It's very worrying how we sell our best players every single time, The owners will be loving all that money.

{Ed002's Note - The owners have just spent what will be around £90M on van Dijk and still there are idiots like you bitching at them.}

2.) 07 Jan 2018 17:47:24
🔔🔚 op.

3.) 07 Jan 2018 17:48:52
Not Grobbelaar sorry.

4.) 07 Jan 2018 18:02:08
Ed002 on one hand over and over again you rightly tell us the top players want to win things. But City and Utd over the last 5 years have spent £100m net on average per season. Liverpool after Courts sale have spent net around £15m max per season in the last 5 years.

Less than Everton
Less than Palace

So of course we want to buy some players. We will know if the owners want to win something by the end of the summer. Then maybe with a good team they can start to market the club properly.

{Ed002's Note - I am not sure why you use "net" and not "gross" figures - the owners have poured vast amounts of money in to the club - a club that was loosing £1M per weeek for the first three years of their ownership. I am well aware that there are fans like you who just want to see vast amounts of money spent and don't care if it is on the best players for the job - just as long as they are expensive. Distorting figures through the sales of the likes of Coutinho and Suarez is a feeble way that many Liverpool fans use to get at the owners. My suggestion for you Mark is to get on Twitter and tell those who have just committed to spend £90M on Tinkerbell quite how awful owners they are. Maybe you could threaten the owners wife, get down the stadium and daub abuse on it - there are plenty of ways to get your point across.}

5.) 07 Jan 2018 18:33:49
You saying things like threaten the owners wife does you no favours at all. (some would say for suggesting it you are as bad as the ones who have done it) . When the owners came in it was also their job to maximise revenue and they have failed at this.

When the owners sell they will make a £400m profit so I won't be feeling sorry for them anytime soon. It is very easy to commit to spend on VVD when the day after you know you are selling our most valuble player.

I am also more than happy to wait for the right players as long as they try to get them like VVD and Kieta.

{Ed002's Note - It is the Liverpool way - they fans have done that before - and daubed abuse on the stadium. I am not sure what you latest beef is that the owners have also failed to "maximise revenue"? I assume that you don't really understand how football finances work at all, nor the need for clubs to work within the structure of FFP.}

6.) 07 Jan 2018 19:13:21
Ed002 I don't know, I would never claim to know even 10% of what you know about non playing matters. I just see other clubs spending £100's millions more than us but we still have to try and compete. I just know how big a 6 months we have in front of us and we can't afford any more mistakes.

On the revenue side, I think they should have employed better quality personnel for a number of key roles at the club.

Thanks for your replies. (it is not the Liverpool way, all clubs have idiots that claim to be fans) .

{Ed002's Note - Use Gross transfer figures Mark. The club is now on a decent financial footing thanks to the owners. It should be appreciated.}

7.) 07 Jan 2018 19:30:35
ok boss

I wouldn't mind winning something as well.

{Ed002's Note - Lots of chances still.}

8.) 07 Jan 2018 20:00:07
Thanks for the responses, Ed02. You should also pop over to other fan sites and you won't believe the abuse the owners get nor the complete and abject stories people make up in their heads about the owners. Happy to be on this site where thanks to you Ed's we are well informed on what's going on behind the scenes and also, I love the fact that we don't discuss money on this forum cos trust me, it will be armaggedon, just like it is on these other fan sites.

{Ed002's Note - In most cases they shouldn't do.}

Im not that shore Lemar Will be a instant success. He Will probably need quite some time to adapt, considering his age, new country, PL, and the pressure coming with his pricetag. He already having problem living up to last years hype.

Cheers for the reply Ed, i appreciate the inside info on Achteberg, did not want to judge him without ever seen him in work. But his result everyone can see. I reckon Mignolet has gotten a bit better in air, maybe also a little better with his feets. But not good enough.
And thanks for helping me out with the language!
You are all doing a fantastic job. Keep it up!

Grobbelaar

{Ed001's Note - it is very difficult to criticise Achteberg too much as he is a nice guy and he is doing his best and working very hard on learning more about coaching goalkeepers. He did his A license (I think it was his A anyway) in the summer, for instance. He is not just saying he knows it all and refusing to look to improve on his work. Personally I feel the issue is that he should have been the junior coach to a senior gk coach who he could have worked with and learnt from. As it is, he has been thrown in at the deep end and is trying to learn on the job, with no one to learn off. Not easy for anyone. The club needs to give him more support.}

I also agree Liverpool are absolute fantastic at pressing good teams to mistakes and then take advantage of the mistakes. In that perspective we won't miss Coutinho that much, we got others who are better at pressing play. Makes me believe we can beat any team in CL even without Coutinho.

But the fact still remains we struggle against teams that park the bus. We got away with wins a couple more times this campaign do to getting first goal from a corner (Can) and a couple of times by individual brilliant efforts (Coutinho) that forced opposition to get out of the bus.
In this area i think Klopp still have a big challenge to overcome. Especially without Coutinho.

I agree that Karius should deserves more gametime before we judge him. But something that i worry a lot about, are the fact that i have noticed him standing on his heels when shots are being fired. Its a basic, and crucial, knowledge that a keeper should be on his front foot when a shoot is released. I don't know the exact english word for it, but he should also do a little bias (? ) jump to charge the muscles so he react as fast as possible. Either he can't handle the pressure and shokes ore the goalkeeper trainer is not doing his job. Because the Karius we signed did not have this bad habbit.

Grobbelaar

{Ed001's Note - I think the word you are looking for is bounce. It must be said that we know that Achteberg has not impressed for a long time, as none of the keepers have improved under him sadly. Nice guy who is still learning but he needs someone to help him.}

Klopp afterwards also reveiled that Emre was playing a bit sick. that's why they had to take him out in second half. that's a hell of an attitude from a player with outgoing contract, showing that he is a real professional! Giving it all for Liverpool!

I think Lovren made an error on last goal. looks like he tries to go forward to head the cross away and misses it totally. Just one of those errors he makes a bit to often. But otherwise he played well.

Grobbelaar

{Ed001's Note - it did end up with him ducking under the ball sadly. Gutted for the lad as he has dealt with so much crap in his personal life he deserves to succeed.}
