Hey Ed's/ Reds

A few sites reporting Liverpool interest in Leon Bailey a 23 year old Jamaican from Genk. The report I read mentions a loan back for the rest of the season would be likely as he had been considered a target the summer and not ready for the first team just yet. but due to interest from a couple of others this window (Bayern Lever and Roma) Liverpool would be prepared to bid 20m this window.

Firstly is there any interest from us?

Secondly does anyone know much about him can't say I do at all so any opinions welcome.

Thanks

JQLFC96

{Ed002's Note - Genk's Leon Bailey is continuing to attract the attention of a number of sides, particularly those from England who would like a deal before the opportunity for him become home grown disappear. He has previously opted to turn down Chelsea for Genk where he knew opportunities would be better. Bayer Leverkusen, Lille, Newcastle, Ajax, Roma, Crystal Palace, Manchester United and Napoli have all watched him recently and Napoli have had a couple of discussions with Genk with one of his representatives available to discuss the views of the player. Efforts are being made by a sports agency to ease out the representatives he has now and this has irked his father who plays an important part of the decision making process and is concerned the player could slip in to obscurity if he moves too early. Folks have asked about Everton and Liverpool interest but there seems to be nothing of note. Right now he is not ready for the EPL, so a loan would be likely if he were to move to England but I don't see any chance of a January move - perhaps one to ask about again in the summer.}

Seen him play live once against my hometown club in the europa league this season, he's direct, extremely quick and his footwork is mesmerising. His end product is lacking but at only 19 this can easily be improved. Also his passing is underrated, he's quite a technical player which can easily be overshadowed due to his obvious physical attributes.

2.) 19 Jan 2017 22:25:28
Thanks Ed and apologies I used the serch function after I posted. My bad

1.) 23 Nov 2016 19:43:10
We could buy him and loan him back for a season.
He is no better than we already have.

2.) 24 Nov 2016 17:56:13
If he is no better than we already have why buy him at all?

So read a couple of sites today saying that Klipperty is looking to bring in Kevin volland this summer. I was wondering if the eds have heard anything about this. Both reports seem to suggest that he has a release clause in his contract of £14.5m which seems very low for a player of his quality.

Have to say I would love to see him come to Liverpool hI'm and Firminio looked lethal together last year. I know we are overstocked with players at the moment and any interest would be subject to making room first.

JQLFC96

{Ed001's Note - I know nothing of release clauses just that he is a player Klopp identified as a player he would like checked out extensively, with a view to potentially attempting to sign him. That was one of the first names he put forward after joining.}

1.) 13 May 2016 21:01:29
Ed you've said you don't expect anything to happen with Volland this summer, is there is a particular reason for that such as Hoffenheim unwilling to sell?

2.) 13 May 2016 21:17:51
The naysayers won't be happy! A left footed right forward who cuts inside? Whisper it quietly mate.

3.) 14 May 2016 01:11:48
Is he better than what we've already got?

Not clear cut in my opinion, he doesn't exactly shine in the weaker slower Bundesliga. Looks a very limited player to me, I prefer Markovic to him.

4.) 14 May 2016 02:21:57
Ron he is currently much better than ibe and ojo who both need loans. Ibe to sort of get back on track and ojo to continue his development. Hopefully both go to PL clubs. If that is to happen we need a new winger (I think we need one regardless as we have none that are good enough) . Markovic and a new winger would be great additions going into the new season. And if that new winger is volland then I'd be pretty happy. Imagine who we would sign under Rogers.

5.) 14 May 2016 02:41:06
He doesn't even impress on YouTube and that's saying something!

6.) 14 May 2016 09:28:07
He reminds me of a quicker Kuyt, not a bad thing. Once we have bought a top world class GK, CB and LB, we sell all that want/ need to be sold then we can look at this and see what cash we have.

7.) 14 May 2016 09:48:30
Kevin Volland can play left wing, right wing and striker. He is pretty good at all of them. It seems he is a player Klopp is very much interested in going by the Ed's comments regarding Klopp wanting him watched extensively. Would be a good signing IMO.

8.) 14 May 2016 10:13:22
Did a bit of YouTube scouting (I know)
But as I was watching him I was wondering do we have any players currently here who do what he does? And no I don't think we do.
He is defo a winger for starters who can play both sides,
But unlike anyone we have he's someone who actually either gets himself or the ball into the opposition box very quickly and his balls are a lot more accurate than say Morenos or millers, we seem so slow in attacking sometimes, this guy would be great in the counter attack and high press.
In one video, his first goal was an absolute peach of a free kick so hopefully he's a good free kick taker as well, something we are also sadly missing, if he can take corner kicks as well then that's another bonus as I don't think I have seen many beat the first man since the days of Kenny.
His stats on the video where played 30, scored 9 and assisted 6 if I remember right? I can't see Ibe or Ojo scoring that next season, (in future yes) .
Ibe and Ojo don't seem ready at all for me, after watching this fella it's obvious we either need him or a similar type player as that type of player is a dimension we severely lack right now, Ojo could be his understudy and eventual replacement.
One thing I did think was, Origi especially would shine playing alongside volland, origis pace, power, positioning and explosive runs would give volland something to aim for all game.
Maybe if we had Volland on the left wing providing width and forward runs Moreno and smith might stay in position at left back and actually defend? But maybe that's wishful thinking haha.

9.) 14 May 2016 10:41:18
How do you guys think Ibe and Ojo will become ready? By shipping them out on loan or persevering with their development by playing in the LFC first team at the appropriate time? If we see players that are only marginally better than our youngsters (Ibe and Ojo are 20 years old or younger) how can they get better? Volland has several more experience of top league first team level than they do, so naturally he might be better today.

10.) 14 May 2016 10:54:50
In regards to Ibe and Ojo getting ready then I don't know really, but in my opinion looking in from the outside I would say Ibe needs a loan to get out the spotlight here at Liverpool and get more gametime so he can concentrate on his game.
Ojo, like I said I would have as backup/ understudy to volland or similar as he will get gametime and top class coaching from Klopp, I'm not sure a loan would be in his or the clubs best interests, unlike Ibe.

11.) 14 May 2016 12:59:23
The concern is that if the reserve leagues are now as weak as everyone says they are then loans are the only way to bridge the gap between 16-18 year olds coming out of academy and first team. But then the loans have to be relevant, i. e. right level, playing the right style or else they go off, play lots of games but still have to learn to step up to the level and play the way the manager wants. Ibe may be a symptom of the bigger problem we have. He has ability but has hit that gap between too good for age group but not ready for regular first team. At which point he stagnates, others like Wisdom have done the same. We keep talking about the talent in the academy and the potential is there but unless a way can be found to bridge that gap then we will just be producing players who leave at 18-21 to play elsewhere, usually at a lower level.

12.) 15 May 2016 00:58:27
In regards to Kevin Volland.

I think Volland is exactly the type of player Klopp is looking for i. e. If a young Dirk Kuyt was still in our team he would be a key player for Klopp and Volland is in a similar vein, however with a bit more in his locker than Kuyt had in terms of technical ability and speed.

As evidenced by Klopp playing Firmino as a false 9 away against Villarreal and at several other times, it would appear that depending on opposition Klopp likes to use a defensive forward or false 9 option, Volland would suit this position very well. As previously stated Volland can also play on either wing making him very adaptable just like Kuyt. I think Volland would be primarily used as a false 9 striker in away fixtures against low-mid table opponents where we have struggled this season, with Sturridge primarily being saved for the bigger games, Europe (if we make UCL) and at home, or coming off the bench as an impact player against weaker teams if needed. If Sturridge is not satisfied with this role then I think Klopp will look to move him on and don't be surprised if a bid for Gonzalo Higuain was put forward if we make the UCL. Otherwise Klopp might plump for Alexandre Lacazette to fill the void.

In terms of our forward options Volland would complement what we currently have and no doubt we will offload Benteke for about GBP25m which is close to what Hoffenheim will probably ask for. Volland also was very well suited playing with Firmino at Hoffenheim and it would be great to see that partnership flourish again at Anfield.

If we went into next season with Sturridge, Origi, Volland, and Ings as our strikers we would not struggle for goals.

13 Mar 2016 23:38:58
Lacazatte rumors popping up again eds, do you think he would be a realistic option?

JQLFC96

{Ed002's Note - Liverpool has not shown interest and is overrun with strikers.}

1.) 14 Mar 2016 15:22:07
Ed, you keep saying we are overrun but we are also going to lose some strikers in the summer for sure and replace them hopefully

We're not talking about Lacazatte signing this week ready for the next game. The clear out is going to happen isn't it?

{Ed002's Note - The forwards I would expect to see leave are two on loan and one at the end of his contract - leaving the club overrun with five still. The club need three or four front line forwards and that is it. I am not aware of any efforts being made to move on Sturridge, Firmino, Benteke, Ings or Origi at this time.}

2.) 15 Mar 2016 21:21:42
Thats Sinclair end of contract and ballotelli and yesil going out on loan right ed?

{Ed002's Note - Yes.}

26 Jul 2017 16:48:54
People need to chill. The only "sources" being mentioned are sources close to Barcalona. This is an obvious attempt to unsettle the player. Coutinho has said nothing publically about leaving and has said quite the opposite actually, regardless of these hear say conversations ed02 has been talking about for over a year now 🙈. Maybe they happened maybe they didn't regardless the fact is it's hearsay.

Philip Coutinho is not irreplaceable smashing player but by no means irreplaceable. Would hate to see him go obviously, but if we sign Keita I doubt we will notice he has gone. We have smashing options in the middle of the park and in the attacking third even without Phil.

JQLFC96

{Ed002's Note - They did happen. It is not hearsay.}

1.) 26 Jul 2017 17:17:10
The look on his face after his goal, and after the game against Leicester, looked like the face of a man who was leaving. It is only his loyalty to Liverpool keeping him here, nothing else. Obviously I hope he stays - probably more important than any other signings - but to me it looked like his mind was already made up.

But fingers crossed he stays!

2.) 26 Jul 2017 17:27:43
Nick it's preseason mate.

3.) 26 Jul 2017 17:33:44
I have been known to talk about playing for Barcelona Ed. Doesn't mean I ever will ;-)

4.) 26 Jul 2017 17:33:59
Oh no they didn't.

5.) 26 Jul 2017 18:07:23
Not irreplaceable!, So who could replace him with then that we could sign?

6.) 26 Jul 2017 18:43:38
If he prefers to play for another club before LFC, then let him off,

As long as the clubs interests are looked after, good luck to the lad,

What will we do? Put him training on his own? Or like Sakho with U23s,

100 mill. And move on.

Klopp only wants players who choose 1st to come to play for us.

7.) 26 Jul 2017 18:48:16
Ed02, hearsay is when something somebody may have said is repeated by another person. Therefore it's hearsay. May be true but you repeating it is hearsay.

{Ed002's Note - You have zero knowledge of this matter nor of what has happened nor of who was present.}

8.) 26 Jul 2017 18:51:17
Plenty. I don't want him to go, obviously. But if he goes, he won't be directly replaced. He's being shoe-horned into Klopp's formation and he's doing a great job. If we had to replace him, it wouldn't be for someone to be shoe-horned in but a natural in a position.

9.) 26 Jul 2017 19:39:27
Epic, how do you know he's being shoe-horned into Klopp's system? Did he tell you that? Stop with the projection, please as none of us know what Klopp is doing tactically. Couts is perfect for our system wither out wide on the left or from deep midfield. That is not shoe-horning. That is tactics.

And to those saying he is not irreplaceable, I ask you, who should we get that can have the exact type of influence creatively, that he currently has now at the club in the short term? Keita will not do that so again, who would that be?

10.) 26 Jul 2017 22:30:54
Woodburn.

11.) 27 Jul 2017 00:54:37
You're right ed002, it's not heresay, it's heresy!

Hey Eds/ Reds

With us breaking a record and playing for a 29th (I think it said) time on TV in Britain this season would that mean we will get the most TV money this year or is it not as simple as that?

Just wondering especially considering the vast amount of money it is these days.

So hailstones by your own description of Phil being a snake would you agree with buying another couple of snakes in VVD an Keita? Buy snakes get snakes if that's the logic.
I can't agree that any are "snakes". Players should be allowed move if they want to move. Phil wants to go let him go, same with VVD and Keita although if both arrive at Liverpool see how long they stay before doing the exact same when someone better comes along. Loyalty in football is dead from a player perspective and rightly So, clubs are employers and players employees. I'd leave my job in heartbeat if a better offer came along am I a snake? I think most people would be if that was the case.
Granted from a club/ fan perspective timing is wrong but in fairness Phil didn't dictate that.

Having seen your name here in a while Dagenham Red always good to hear from you.

To be honest when the teams were announced I was scratching my head as to why Wenger didn't start both Lacazette and Klosanic (sp) who have both looked like good buys. Sanchez should never have started and like us you guys are in need of a CB.

Hope it works out for yous and Wenger gets it right hopefully a signing or two and hold on to Sanchez for the season. Would hate to see it end bad for Wenger he has done a lot for English football not just Arsenal so i would liken to see him go on his own terms. The fans getting on his back this early can't help.

Best of luck for the season you are welcome here by most I'm sure anytime.
