Had a good chat with a few friends recently about the centre backs we've had over the recent years, obvious names stand out, the likes of Carra and big Sami, but what are people's opinions on Danny Agger? Obviously a career plagued by injuries but I thought as a ball playing defender he was quality, a bit like Kompany in a way, a real class defender who will be remembered for the games he missed rather than the games he played.

Never forget his goals though, the fracker against West Ham and of course the semi final against Chelsea

Look forward to your opinions and here's to 3 massively vital 3 points tomorrow.

I loved Agger, so smart and vocal, he was Squirtle's brain. Not to mention his loyalty to LFC, just a pity we couldn't manage his injuries better, seems to be a theme with us.

{Ed001's Note - to be fair, carrying Skrtel all those years will have done some serious damage to his back.}

2.) 06 May 2017 19:25:18
So unlucky with injuries. I always thought he was going to be the closest thing we had to jockey.

3.) 06 May 2017 21:04:07
Loved him, a good footballer and very brave. A true warrior! Left too soon in my opinion, I blame Brendan. Could do with him now.

4.) 06 May 2017 21:05:51
Wasn't suggesting he could still be playing for us now mind, just saying he'd be good in our current side.

5.) 06 May 2017 22:37:10
Better than lovren and would still do a job for us now in the odd games like klavan even with his broken knees. Shame he was so fragile, was replaced by sturridge who took up the fragile mantle. Its funny there is always one, kewell being the most fragile that i can remember.

6.) 07 May 2017 00:18:09
Agger never got over his injuries after he left us. Great player but he left at the right time.

7.) 07 May 2017 03:26:50
Also, never seen him turn down a kid's request for an autograph or pic. One of my favourite players of the past 20 years.

This isn't taking the p**s but I seriously hope people who were saying Ibe should be starting over Lallana have realised they were wrong. Granted, I'm a big Lallana fan but Ibe has a lot, and I mean a lot of learning to do before he even gets to our level, Ojo looks the more mature at the minute, maybe it's a confidence thing I don't know.

He's young and will improve but I'm certainly not Ibes biggest fan, and with him and Moreno down the left we're in for trouble.

I don't mean this in a disrespectful way but if you can't see what Lallana brings to the team by now, then you can't be watching us that closely. The ground he covers is up there with Hendo, his touch is up there with Couts and I really think he has become a definite starter since the turn of the year.

He does definitely need to add goals to his game, but like for England the other night, he seems to be the assist for the assist if that makes sense.

Not saying he's more important than coutinho or Hendo but under Klopp he's shown a new aggression about his game.

Thought Lovren was outstanding today, the goal you could argue was a touch of class from a very good striker, although he could've done better.

Sturridge is without a doubt the best striker we've got, but does anyone else think we're a better team with coutinho, Firmino and Lallana upfront?

All just my opinion, hope to hear yours.

Up the Reds and onto Dortmund now.

Was at match and thought lallana played well. His pressing was outstanding and forced an outstanding save from loris! Added to that his close control allows us to keep possession brilliantly and get out of tight spaces. Also made a few good runs that just weren't spotted. You mentioned possibly having firmino ahead of sturridge, our best performance was the front three and lallana contributed to that.

One thing though which i found annoying was Sturridge today. His barely pressed at all which limits the effect the work rate of others can have. Added to that doesn't put pressure or put up a fight when ball is played long to him, just look what a difference origi had because he did this. Has class which he showed with the assist but should score that header or the one on one (though personally thought he should have cut it back to lallana) .

Lovren made a mistake but probably drops countless goals recovering from sakhos obsession with setting up Spurs counters!

Think we have a great framework for our team but Klopp might have to be a bit ruthless with our current squad as have a lot of good players but to win need to find the weakest links and remove them.

2.) 02 Apr 2016 20:53:06
Spot on lac.

3.) 02 Apr 2016 20:54:28
"coutinho, Firmino and Lallana upfront" it can, but they're all similar type players, some obviously better than others. i think they need pace and power. most teams will be happy defending against them, and they are useless against teams that sit back as we have seen this season. can, hendo, continho, firmino, sturridge, origi would be a fantastic all out attack. not a line up i would start with in most games but would always go for this at the 60 min mark if we needed it.

4.) 02 Apr 2016 21:23:44
I can see what he brings but what he doesn't bring is more of a concern i. e. Goals and assists.

5.) 02 Apr 2016 21:29:25
Lallana doesn't t score enough goals and always plays as if he is on his own on the pitch. He is too talented to not be scoring as much as Couts and Firmino do. He holds on to the ball too long and never releases it in rhythm, instead makes his Cruyff turns and the chance for a counter is gone. The prob is that when he just plays one touch football, he is lethal like we saw with his assists and goals vs City, Utd and Norwich. He needs to just play that way because with his energy and fitness, he is able to press and run all day.

6.) 02 Apr 2016 22:15:17
Only Milner and coutinho has more assists in the team and he made a run who move the CB for the goal today.

7.) 02 Apr 2016 23:46:59
Lallana at the moment is playing very, very well when he is in the game but still drifts in and out.
If he could stay in the thick of things for 90 minutes he would be a really quality attacking midfielder. Work rate and natural talent both there.

8.) 02 Apr 2016 23:48:24
It's like saying no-one has stopped more shots than Migs.
That's because that's his job in the team.

9.) 03 Apr 2016 04:08:04
I think there are better players who can bring more to Liverpool playing where Lallana plays, and I would have no problems selling him.

21 May 2015 22:39:01
I think a lot of people on here really expect too much from our youngsters. Honestly I can't see many, if any actually making regular starting players, I hope I'm wrong I really do but players like rossiter who imo will never be a regular for Liverpool.
Again, I hope I'm wrong and the likes of flanno can make for good cases (ibe signed from Wycombe, sterling qpr etc)

Realistically who do we expect to make the squad by this time next year?

JordDodz

1.) 21 May 2015 23:44:59
Another blanket statement. Just because the manager doesn't believe in them does not mean they don't have chance. Maybe if we saw them in the first team game play, we would b able to form a better opinion with our eyes instead of making comments that lack any logic behind them. We've seen Sterling, Ibe, Flanno, Tex, Kelly and Rossiter play and have done fairly or very well depending so if there are those, then there are others as well.

2.) 22 May 2015 00:03:56
Every year we hype players up and become separated from reality!

My personal expectancy is with

Brannigan, o'hanlon, Phillips, dhanda, chirivella, Williams (but even there maybe one will make it as a prem player)

Plenty of others but the wide players have a tough path with the age of the first team and none are really standInG out as exceptional.

I don't hold much hope for rossiter although will love it as he is a scouser, but for his frame he doesn't possess anything that is going to help him avoid that being a probleM With him being a cm. Spearing 2.0. Just not got it all, will be a good mid prem player though :) same feelings with Sinclair, fast but not fast enough to play on the shoulder and strong but not.strong enough to act as a giroud/Drogba. Again got it all but not enough! These two have a lot of developing to do but fingers crossed for them and us!

The scout who brought madger, chirivella & canos to the club, holds very high hopes for the 3 of them. Especially chirivella who he says English football would need a 100 of him to change our culture as he possesses everything a cm needs! Valencia were also very upset to lose him as they believed he was there best talent from the.academy in ten years!

3.) 22 May 2015 00:10:29
I think you're right in that we expect too much and youngsters need to be integrated carefully or risk their confidence, however there are a lot like Sinclaire, Ojo, Chirivella, Branagan, Rossiter etc. that have the potential if handled properly (ie. 30mins here and there etc. ).

Thants not saying we can lose Gerrard and Sterling etc. and just go to the definitely need top players to compete at the highest level and to set the benchmark for youngsters to learn from.

4.) 22 May 2015 01:41:24
What ever happened to that young welsh kid that got an international cap

5.) 22 May 2015 12:20:47
We have plenty of players who can make the grade it depends on how they are integrated. With regard to rossiter being too small, its complete nonsense. Claude makelele was small in stature but was one of the best midfielders in the world in his time. i'm not saying rossiter will be world class but he has the ability and temperament to be an excellent player.

Ojo shows promise as does sinclair and there are others that could make the grade with the right guidance. Something rodgers is too inexperienced to be able to do ala harry kane at tottenham. Despite the impending relaxation on ffp lfc cannot spend £100m every transfer window to satisfy peoples need for a new team every season so we have to start imbedding some of the youngsters into the squad sooner rather than later.

I can't believe what people are saying about Depay, yes he will more than likely choose Man Utd over Liverpool because, well, who wouldn't right now? Not to mention Van Persie, Blind and Van Gaal already there. He's an absolutely wonderful footballer, he's as good as, if not better than sterling and if sterling does leave he should be a priority. I can't remember the last wide player we had who brought goals to the team? Last season sterling was at his best in the number 10 role.
Milner would also be a great signing on a free, he's been city's best player this season and whilst he'd warrant 100k a week it's still worth it.
I do think our absolute priority should be someone like lacazette though, not saying him exactly, but someone with a proven goal scoring record becaus without a partner I don't think Sturridge would score 15 never mind 20, he needs a strike partner.

JordDodz

1.) 25 Apr 2015 20:53:37
He's better than sterling !! Has the delivery and shooting . Sterling can't cross the road or shoot outside the box barring the Norwich game last year . Either way I think he's off to Utd . Agent snapping pics of its training ground etc yesterday whilst en route to meeting . Ayre. Ayer head

2.) 25 Apr 2015 21:46:36
I absolutely think Sturridge could hit those numbers. the problem is getting him fit! A striker the priority come summer absolutely.

3.) 25 Apr 2015 22:41:04
Sturridge is mentally weak. He refuses to play unless 100% fit and places more importance on finishing his career healthy than making sacrifices for it. If he takes a knock on the pitch he asks to come off. Compare that with Henderson who plays with injuries even needing pain-killing injections at times.

4.) 25 Apr 2015 22:42:01
And it isn't even a physical game anymore.

5.) 26 Apr 2015 06:56:14
Ridiculous REdLenin Sturridge has picked up needless injuries/exacerbated needless injuries because he has been rushed back quicker than he ever should have been - first with England and then with us. Some players, like Henderson, rarely get injured and seem to have the genetic look of not picking up injuries easily. Others have a worse time of it, like Sturridge. I think it's so harsh to question his commitment because he is cautious about his injuries - actually I think its plain stupid - that "playing through the pain barrier" nonsense is what will, more likely than not, compound and complicate pre-existing injury problems. I would prefer any player, when feeling a niggle, to do the sensible thing and leave the pitch. What good is Sturridge playing through the pain barrier for one game only to then be injured for 2 months afterwards? Insane logic.

6.) 26 Apr 2015 08:32:44
I think it unfair to say Sturridge is only bench quality. he has proven in the PL, with Chelsea and with us, that he is a top striker that pretty much every team in the PL would like to have.

I don't know about Sturridge being mentally weak, but BR hinted as much some time back but since it was BR, I wouldn't believe it.

7.) 26 Apr 2015 11:04:42
Seano - he is mentally weak. He refuses to play if even slightly injured. In a line-up where you only play one out-and-out striker (4-3-3, 4,2,3,1 etc) you need a far better and physically/mentally tougher striker than him - in the formations we play he is subs bench material. If he isn't fit enough to play 80% of the games as a minimum, then he isn't good enough. And if he was so good at Chelsea they wouldn't have been so eager to sell him - especially to a club that sees itself as a rival. Personally I think they only sold him to us as an act of revenge for ripping them off over Torres.

He's the most over rated player in Europe since Hulk left, far better options out there if coutinho leaves.

Why do people think our youth players are destined for greatness? The majority won't play more than a handfull of games, I can't remember the last player to come through the ranks and be a first team regular. Could argue Sterling but we bought him at 16 I believe?

I really do like Hendo but I would swap him for Dier without a moments hesitation. If you really watch Dier play midfield he's a class act, and given Hendo's injury record he would be far more reliable and could even cover at the back.

Well yeah because Pogba has been as important to Utd as gerrard has for us.

Yeah, I loved how he marked Benteke out the game last week too.
