Eds, has the situation changed with Coutinho regarding leaving if we don't get champions league? Looks out of reach from a league perspective this year. It would be sad to see him go. I know Barcelona previously had interest, not sure that they need him. It would not be an easy task to replace the influence he has on the team.

ManahawkinRed

{Ed002's Note - The club are aware of what Coutinho told three international team mates and are also aware that both Porto and Bayern Munich watched Coutinho on May 10 last year. It is also correct that Barcelona have had Coutinho watched on at least a couple of occasions this season but with Arda Turan playing in a similar position and Alen Halilovic returning from loan in the summer I am not sure the he will be a priority for them. Right now I would expect him to stay but if Liverpool do look to another first pick attacking midfield player then space needs to be found in the squad.}

1.) 23 Mar 2016 17:08:14
Would you take Gotze over him ed?

{Ed002's Note - Where does Goetze come in to any of this?}

2.) 23 Mar 2016 19:22:38
He doesnt, was just after your opinion mate that's all. A what if i suppose.

3.) 23 Mar 2016 20:30:00
Thanks, Ed2! Much appreciated. I prefer Coutinho over Gotze LFC. I think the difference in our team when Coutinho is on form is immense.

4.) 23 Mar 2016 20:49:09
Ed, say hypothetically Porto were interested would they really be able to afford him?

I didn't think Portuguese clubs had that sort of money.

{Ed002's Note - Yes they could.}

5.) 24 Mar 2016 02:07:36
coutinho can join texeira in china and hope a offer like 60mil comes from china. will bite the hand off and use 20 mil to buy new reus, new aubameyangs, kagawas, hummelses.

6.) 24 Mar 2016 07:54:22
I'd be very disappointed losing Coutinho to a team like Porto. Its hard to keep players from that small group of clubs that realistically can compete at the very top level but to lose him to a club that really does little more than make up numbers when it comes to the CL. wouldn't be happy.

7.) 24 Mar 2016 14:05:10
leekuanyew,

is there no pleasing you, Couthino is one of our best players if not our best player, but you would sell him for a player who might take a season to get used to the prem a bit like firmino, also the players you mentioned might not do well in the prem just because they are good in germany does not mean they will be good in the prem just look at the likes of other big names who have come to the prem and could not cut it here, or took a season to get used to it, so it would mean we would struggle for another season, couths is settled and playing really well, plus imagine where we would be in the league if you took out his goals and assists this season, beside him and firmino there's no goals coming from any were else in the team but hey it won't matter as long as we get a big named player, what your not seeing is the big teams that are looking at couthino which means to them he is a big name player where you think he is not a big name player, look at leicester they don't have any big name players but they are at the top of the prem and look like they will win it, man city with all their big names won't win the prem so just because you want players who have reached the top in a different country does not mean they will make it big here or help us win anything,

Have we been linked with any wingers? Seems to be our biggest need at this point, I assume Klopp wants to bring some width into the team.

ManahawkinRed

{Ed002's Note - Winger:

Clearly Liverpool have been looking in particular at wingers with their scouting and that in itself may sound the death knell for Markovic. With Ibe, Ojo and Canos on the books in addition to several players like Milner, Origi and even Lallana and Firmino who are comfortable in those positions - and youngsters like Kent, it seems some sort of reshuffle will be necessary. Liverpool don’t seem to have honed in on one target but they are certainly looking.

Interest in Anderlecht's Dennis Praet has run hold and cold for a while and the likes of Ajax, Everton, Southampton, Hoffenheim and Dynamo Moscow have moved on in the past year. Both Sevilla and Valencia had offers rejected in the summer whilst Aston Villa were also being kept informed by Anderlecht of any approaches for the player, but there is no way the player will want to move there and they won't have that sort of money to spend on one player. Juventus were represented at a couple of games but were, I understand, unconvinced by the player - but I suspect interest will continue knowing that his value might well tumble as his contract is running down. Fiorentina has had several meetings with representatives of the player and Anderlecht - and were seemingly getting to the point where an agreement over a January transfer could be reached but interest in another player has given them an unexpected twist to deal with and they are now out of the picture. Arsenal has again looked at him in recent weeks, once they knew that there could be a January bid from elsewhere, but I am not aware of them taking it any further just yet. I understand that Liverpool are again interested in the Praet, and it is a player Klipperty would like. Praet may well provide more versatility than others as he has the ability to play as a winger as well as an attacking midfield player. Borussia Dortmund has also been showing recent interest.

Georges-Kevin N'Koudou of Marseille - perhaps a youngster for the summer for one of the many clubs who have looked at him - including Crystal Palace, Valerncia, Southampton, West Ham, Liverpool and Manchester United. Marseille would certainly be open to a very high and over the odds offer.

Manchester City, Atletico, Spurs and Valencia have all previously declared an interest in Gokhan Tore with Atletico having made two offers to take him as a replacement for Arda Turan in the summer. I would think any Manchester City bid is dependent on David Silva moving on and that has gone for now. Valencia will probably not now follow up on their interest. Spurs interest remains. Additionally, Besiktas has said that Arsenal has again watched the player. However, they have said that they are not looking to sell him over the winter window but are open to further discussions over making an agreement for a summer move to Atletico Madrid - and further discussions are scheduled but Atletico accept that the summer is a more likely time for a move but are also aware good performances at the Euros will boost his price - hence they would like to agree the framework for a deal now. Besiktas have not been approached by West Ham United with any offer to take Tore back to London. but have admitted that Everton, Liverpool and Arsenal (again) have watched the player before the holidays.

PSG may well be less willing to let Moura move as he has now settled better in France - but it took a very long time. An attempt was made to strike a deal for Lucas Moura to make a return to Sao Paulo on loan in January 2015, but PSG pulled the plug as discussions dragged on. Juventus had declared interest if he becomes available but baulked at the €40M asking price they were given. Spurs and Liverpool did manage to scout him recently, although he has been starting from the bench a lot this season. Whilst his agent has spoken to Arsenal about him, the player himself is now keen to stay in Paris, and having settled, PSG will likely support that. As such, I suspect a summer move to be unlikely.

Partizan Belgrade's Andrija Zivkovic has been of sustained interest to Atletico Madrid and Chelsea with Real Madrid, Valencia, Liverpool, Manchester City, Arsenal, Spurs, Benfica and Cagliari all watching the player. Chelsea were looking to sign Zivkovic in the summer and send him on loan, and Real Madrid has made similar advances that were also rebuffed. But it is Atletico who were probably best placed to complete a January deal - but could not get by complex ownership issues involving Pini Zahivi needing to be resolved first. One to watch for the summer.

According to his father, Liverpool, Celtic and Munich 1860 are interested in Dinamo Zagreb's Davor Lovren, brother to Dejan. He plays in the reserve team and I have no idea how much, if any, interest Liverpool have in him. He would be one for the future.

Ajax will look to keep Anwar El Ghazi from interested parties for perhaps one or two years. Bayern Munich, Milan, Liverpool, Manchester United, Leicester, Atletico and Chelsea have all declared an interest. The player has said he wants to play for Real Madrid. Chelsea were to put an offer on the table in the summer and would have been willing to leave him with Ajax for up to two years. However a third party advisor to Chelsea blocked any move at that time citing the player as still being inconsistent and wanting longer to consider whether or not Chelsea should progress a move for the player who he thinks could "disappear" very easily at a higher level, and particularly in England - this was the same person who said Depay was not ready this summer. Arsenal have now had him watched in a match against Vitesse Arnhem - whether that will manifest itself as interest or not is unclear right now. Milan, who had a January bid rejected, will use income from El Shaarawy to explore again if a deal can be done and have appointed a third party to act on their behalf.

Deportivo's Lucas Perez has been performing well this season and has been watched by Arsenal, CSKA Moscow, Liverpool and Valencia. However, this season has been a peak in an otherwise pretty average journeyman career. I suspect the English sides will see sense.

Odd's Rafik Zekhnini is a player that van Gaal tried to take to Manchester United in the summer whilst PSV, Dortmund and, I understand, Liverpool have all been taking a look at him this season.}

1.) 22 Mar 2016 14:15:54
Thanks, Ed002! Lot's of names on the books and being linked, interesting to see what will happen in the summer. Apart from the obvious signings of Reus, Gundogan, and Aubemayang signing.

2.) 22 Mar 2016 17:44:39
If we are looking at wingers then wouldn't Benteke be a good option up front next season?

{Ed001's Note - why? Is he going to suddenly develop a work ethic?}

3.) 22 Mar 2016 18:58:38
Funster

All Benteke needs is service from wide areas and you ask him to play as a wide player? 😳😳.

{Ed001's Note - you really need to read that again.}

4.) 22 Mar 2016 19:16:34
Ooouchh. My bad mate. Read the other way. Thought someone wanted him to play as a winger ha ha 😂😂.

5.) 22 Mar 2016 19:26:11
Harry = open mouth, insert foot!

6.) 22 Mar 2016 22:09:12
Benteke as a winger Yeeeep that's were we've gone wrong why didn't klopp think of that.

7.) 23 Mar 2016 00:33:02
I love how notwithstanding Benteke's utter futility this season, including showing he has the work ethic, awareness, and skill to succeed in Klopp's system-- this "myth" about Benteke still persists. that somehow, if only he gets "proper service" from "wide areas", then voila, all of a sudden

I'm sorry but playing wide wingers and throwing cross into the box at a target man is boring, useless football worthy of Pulis and WestBrom but not LFC. And it is certainly light years removed from Klopp's preferred style of football.

Move Benteke on in the summer if we have an offer. It's best for us, but also for him. He was not built for this team or system and would do better elsewhere.

8.) 23 Mar 2016 00:30:23
Whose looking at Inaki Williams? He will be the next big player.
Shame Chelsea ruined Cuadrado - he was managed very badly and would've been the ideal man on the right.

9.) 25 Mar 2016 15:40:21
Noticed Leroy Sane is not on the winger list, is he out of our price range? What do you make of him? Read he is lazy when pressing and tracking back and his bad passing been killing his team attacks. Just a case of teenager having his head turned? Or red flags to be worried about?

{Ed002's Note - He was looked at and that was the end of it. Schalke rejected bids from Spurs and Stoke for Leroy Sane in the summer of 2015. A number of clubs from across Europe have had the player watched in the first and reserve sides towards the end of last season and at the start of this - including Manchester United, Barcelona, Sunderland, Manchester City, Arsenal, Real Madrid, Liverpool, Bayer Leverkusen, PSG, West Ham and RBL. Do not discount a bid from Manchester City in the summer after an approach was pushed back in January - where they were loathe to meet the potential asking price, even though they were willing to make a very significant offer. Now Manchester City know that a bid from Barcelona is imminent and that will be immediately followed by a bid from Real Madrid as the three clubs battle over a summer move. As to whether he is ready just yet, no, probably not. There is the potential to yet again see a great talent squashed (at least for a year or two).}

Being from the U. S. we didn't get many football games on TV growing up. One of the first matches I watched was Liverpool's champions league win over AC Milan, and then the next year the FA cup win over West Ham. Just took a little dive into the past to watch those highlights. Absolutely ridiculous games. We won a champions league final with Traore as a LB, he makes Moreno look like a superstar, some of the worse positioning I've ever seen. On the West Ham game, that goal by Gerrard is still one of the most incredible goals I've ever seen, absolute rope, unbelievable. Cemented Liverpool as my team and Gerrard as my favorite player. What are the most memorable matches for you guys and girls?

ManahawkinRed

1.) 05 Mar 2019 21:44:43
Beating Dortmund at Anfield was one to remember. That match had everything.

2.) 05 Mar 2019 22:11:44
Istanbul, for me. We weren't even the best team on Merseyside that season but we won the big one.
I remember Djimi Traore standing on the ball at the beginning of the second half, 3 nil down, and nearly letting them in for a fourth.
A Manc I was sat in the pub with
was laughing at me shouting at Traore and lapping it all up.
He wasn't laughing later! To be fair, he bought me and a mate a big four pint jug of ale when we were getting the trophy to celebrate with.
Fabulous night.

3.) 05 Mar 2019 22:36:35
Liverpool 2 Leeds 1 it was our first FA Cup win.

Saw it in black and white on TV.

Liverpool and it’s supporters were just fantastic.

Header from St John and Sir Roger scored.

Gerry Byrne played on with a broken collarbone as no subs were allowed then.

Bill Shankly led the club to that win and the rest as they say is history.

4.) 05 Mar 2019 23:01:30
I started watching football in 2006 world cup as a 10 year old. My first ever 90 mins was Spain vs Tunisia and Torres scored 2 so he was an instant hit with me. Imagine my excitement when we signed him 1 year later. anyway as you can tell from the dates I just missed both Istanbul and the 06 fa cup.

I haven't missed a game since, charity shield vs Chelsea, Riise runs 70 yes to score. Opening league game 1-1 away at Sheffield Fowler pen. We had a great run to the CL final that year, staying up past bedtime to beat Chelsea on penalties with Rafa praying on the floor crossed legs. Never been happier than beating Barcelona at the nou camp who in my young eyes were the worlds best. Ronaldinho, Deco, Zambrotta, Thuram. Funnily enough that season the club site gave an option to email the players. For whatever reason I chose Alonso as the target to tell my transfer plans, in that email I asked him to tell Rafa to buy Downing and Milner, up and coming young English wingers. Anyway I've gone right off on one, I already feel old at 22. Love this stupid game of football.

5.) 05 Mar 2019 23:37:55
Newcastle 4-3. Either one.

6.) 05 Mar 2019 23:40:58
Istanbul is high up there obviously. but the 1989 fa cup final had a special spirit about it that is hard to forget even after 30 years . the game was n't bad, but what was special is the crowd, both blues and reds, there was some amazing unity and family feeling that day at Wembley.

7.) 06 Mar 2019 04:58:48
4-1 at OT. One of Rafa’s best games. 4-4 Arsenal and 4-4 Chelsea. FA cup against West Ham, in fact most of the games in 2008/ 09. Love watching those 😄.

8.) 06 Mar 2019 06:39:29
Rome in 77.

9.) 06 Mar 2019 07:11:20
Aah 77 Hugh, keegan tearing Bertie Vogts a new one, terry macs channel runs, Phil Neal’s composure, Barry Davies’ commentary “IT’S TOMMY SMITH! ” after his headed goal. good times!

QF against st etienne that year set the tone for me though.

10.) 06 Mar 2019 07:44:52
Probably Istanbul to be honest even though there have been so many, including memorable defeats (Arsenal 1989).
Istanbul was incredible. At half time we were drowning out the Milan fans and as they rolled out their “forza Milan” flag it made us sing louder 😀
3-0 down it seemed impossible we could come back but at 3-3 it seemed impossible we would lose.
Goal line clearances, players cramping up, Dudek’s wobbly legs.
We beat AC Milan with Maldini, Nesta, Stam, Pirlo, Kaka, Seedorf, Shevchenko, Crespo
and we had Dudek, Traore, Smicer, Baros and Cisse.

They had conceded something like 2 goals since Christmas and we were 3-0 down at half time!
Our name was definitely on the cup that year, it felt like our 12th man was old Crazyhorse himself RIP.

11.) 06 Mar 2019 08:40:29
LFC 4 - Newcastle 3 - the Collymore game. Also that night in Rome penalty shootout v Roma. + the 1st leg v Roma last year. Beating Man City last year in the league. Dortmund with the Lovren winner. Just so many great emotional games. Worst ones FA cup final loss to Wimbledon and Arsenal defeat 2-0 last game of the season Michael Thomas goal in the last minute. Both games stopped us winning the Double. 🙁.

12.) 06 Mar 2019 12:51:41
similar story here in NZ and I didn't have the pay tv that had premier league in the late 90s. first game I proper got up for was the Owen final in '01. my mate was a gunner too so that was fun walking into class that morning!

04 Jan 2019 19:25:59
Did people think the challenge on Salah by Kompany was a red card? To be honest, I was questioning whether or not it was even a foul when I first saw it. Watching replays I think the yellow card was fair. It was rash, but he got the ball and made minimal contact. Curious to see what people think.

ManahawkinRed

{Ed025's Note - i think your summary is correct MR, a bit worse than a yellow maybe but certainly not a red mate..

1.) 04 Jan 2019 19:39:31
It was very similar to Virgil's tackle on Sane in the first game against them. Both got yellow and I think that's fair.

2.) 04 Jan 2019 19:54:51
I think it was a yellow too, game was full of fine margins and if it was a red don’t think many would of argued either. Our luck ran out yesterday as on another day, he gets sent off mane/ salah score and sane shot hits the post. It’s why we love the game but that decision definitely wasn’t a clear cut red card imo.

3.) 04 Jan 2019 20:01:44
Completely agreed. The chips just didn't fall our way yesterday and based on some of the ones that have this year (Origi vs. Everton to be specific), I think it was a fair result. We'll string together some more results and the positivity will come back.

{Ed025's Note - i think so too mate..

4.) 04 Jan 2019 20:07:31
We made last nights game not an absolute must win with our steady first half of the season.

It was a strong yellow but a yellow.

{Ed025's Note - yes robbie..

5.) 04 Jan 2019 20:09:02
Clear red. As red as they come. Poor tackle, poor decision, poor show. High, dangerous, wreckless and was the last man. Ref either guessed or bottled it.

{Ed025's Note - nah mate, take off the red glasses and have a look again, no intent, got the ball and not last man..yellow all day..

6.) 04 Jan 2019 20:14:21
It was our first EPL loss yesterday vs the Champions on their turf. We still have a 4 point gap over them.

Not even City in their run away to being Champions last season went unbeaten and by the looks of things they are bound to drop more points this season. Defensively they have been found out recently.

They cannot afford to drop more points, they will.

7.) 04 Jan 2019 20:38:56
Come on ed25 he did not get the ball. I’m not saying whether I think it was red or not he wasn’t sent off so we have to live with that but you can’t just make stuff up!
Salah got to the ball and poked it into Kompany’s body as he jumped in. His foot was nowhere near the ball and had Salah’s leg been planted it could’ve been very serious.
Poor, poor tackle and well worthy of a red card but the ref gave yellow so we move on.

{Ed025's Note - he did get the ball bobby it ended up in between his legs mate, he got a little piece of salah as well so a yellow was the correct call..

8.) 04 Jan 2019 21:03:44
I think the sane and Henderson incident was worse than the Konkani challenge. Sane was checked by gini but stayed on his feet, took a further two steps then lunges into the challenge with both feet off the floor and studs showing.
The ref pulled it back and booked gini for it but from why I saw that hardly affected sane but it made his terrible challenge seem “accidental”.

9.) 04 Jan 2019 21:01:06
It was only a yellow, but come on Ed, take off the blue tinted glasses, he got more than ‘a little piece of Salah’ he got him with his studs up. It was reckless and dangerous, despite getting the ball.

{Ed025's Note - if he got him the way you are describing it KK salah would be a cripple mate, he was up and running within 10 seconds so yes a little piece was what he got, i know it hurts when your team gets beat, but making up stories will not change that im afraid..

10.) 04 Jan 2019 21:20:02
Tackle was a yellow because of follow through and his studs up. It should have been a red because no way Stones would have caught Salah so last man.

{Ed025's Note - not actually true mate..but damn fine guess..

11.) 04 Jan 2019 21:29:36
For me it was surely a red card. We are talking milliseconds between Salah getting a very bad injury because Kompany wasnt in control of the tackle. A player doesn't need and shouldn't need to have a broken leg or a season ending injury before a red card is shown. It was reckless therefore it's a red.

{Ed025's Note - and if my auntie had balls he would be my uncle irish, it never happened so stop making up stories, yellow card...correct call mate..

12.) 04 Jan 2019 21:56:13
Borderline call really I reckon by the letter of the law maybe he should have seen red as he was off the ground not in full control but no issue with it being yellow. If VVD made that challenge and was sent off we would all be moaning about how harsh it was
If you had the same incident with ten different refs you would probably see 5 reds and five yellows.

13.) 04 Jan 2019 22:17:27
Jones Red, the VVD comparison is so flawed that I don't know where to even begin. VVD did not elevate off the ground and catch Mertens in mid air like Kompany did. VVD slid got to the ball first, cleared it and his momentum caught Mertens. What is VVVD supposed to do there when he can't stop his momentum? That is called "incidental contact" and that is NEVER a red card.

As for people saying Kompany got the ball, that is patently false. The only reason Kompany made ANY contact with the ball is cos Salah touched the ball (trying to nick it) against Kompany's backside while Kompany was on the ground while trying to avoid his challenge. If people think that is the same as "him getting the ball" then they need to go watch the play again as I just did.

In addition, I think Kompany should have been sent off cos apart from it being a bad, reckless challenge, he wiped out a potential goal-scoring opportunity which by law, is a red card. If you agree that the tackle is a foul BUT not a red then he should be sent off for the latter infraction of potentially wiping out a goal-scoring opportunity, right? Just my opinion.

{Ed002's Note - This "Liverpool can do no wrong" and "it is everybody else who is at fault" is getting very, very tedious and embarrassing.}

14.) 04 Jan 2019 22:27:29
Watch it again Ed Kompany’s foot is nowhere near the ball and Salah gets a toe to the ball and hits it against Kompany’s body.
His foot is already making contact with Salah by this point. I’m not saying it was red but get the ball he did not. The ball hit him but not anywhere near his lunging, knee high, out of control foot.
Salah saw it coming and tried to hurdle it which probably saved Kompany a red card and himself a double leg break.

{Ed002's Note - Tedious, boring and embarrassing.}

15.) 04 Jan 2019 22:33:21
Red it was closer to halfway line than the goal so nosey was it a defiant goal scoring oppertunity we are starting to really get silly over this now! He got a yellow let's suck it up and move onto the next game.

16.) 04 Jan 2019 22:34:53
Not a sending off for you then Ed002?

{Ed002's Note - It was, but the rest of the world gets over this stuff.}

17.) 05 Jan 2019 00:49:59
The rules are constantly evolving.

If your tackle six deemed out of control then it’s a straight red.

18.) 05 Jan 2019 02:04:42
Another may have seen and called it differently, its how it goes.

19.) 05 Jan 2019 10:01:50
Exactly Faith. It probably was a red and Kompany got away with a similar one against Burnley. Maybe it’s because, as Souness said he’s ‘not that type of player’.
Anyway it’s irrelivant, complaining about it won’t change a thing so we move on 4pts clear at the top.

20.) 04 Jan 2019 22:54:28
Sorry Ed002 but what's wrong with debating the pivotal incidents in a crucial match? Its not about moving on or looking for excuses. The decision was made, the game has finished but there's still room for discussion.
Yellow card in my books but id be interested to know how the whether it would be a red under the newer guidelines.

{Ed002's Note - It is the same thing over and over again - how hard done by Liverpool are. It is not debating. It is tedious and boring.}

21.) 05 Jan 2019 13:17:31
Spot on, RedLorryRdLorry. It is all about debating the issues at hand and nothing more. Some LFC fans say it was not a red, some say it was. That's fine cos that is what debate should be about. It has nothing to do with "The world is against LFC" or any of that stuff. I think it is a healthy debate and people are free to agree and disagree. YNWA!

{Ed002's Note - And the grass was too long.}

22.) 05 Jan 2019 20:14:00
You said that, Ed02. I didn't.

23.) 05 Jan 2019 22:44:09
Dear me a remember the days you would of been lucky just to get a free kick for that kind of tackle, needless to say the molbys and vinnie jones of the world would probably not made a crearer in football these days. Bunch of softies rolling about as tho they been shot lol.

In all honesty tho it wouldn't of surprised me if he had been sent of in this day and age but a yellow was a fair outcome, we got beat of a team as good as ours we suck it up and move on we still have a 4 point lead so in all honesty in a great place, ad rather be Liverpool now than Man city.
Wolves is up next in the fa cup, we go win that then we have a kind run of fixtures we just need to capitalise on them and in a months time the gap may just well be back or above 7 points. YNWA.

24.) 05 Jan 2019 23:36:44
Kompany was a red all day long!

26 Sep 2018 04:07:10
I just watched the highlights of our champs league run last year. Easy to forget how shaky our defense and finishing looked early on in the group stages. Pretty amazing to see how much we've improved from then to now, totally buzzing about our potential this year and looking forward to see what this team can do.

ManahawkinRed

1.) 26 Sep 2018 05:56:17
It's crazy really isn't it Manahawinred how quickly Klopp turned it around by buying Robbo, VVD, putting in Trent and more recently giving Gomez his chance. Not to mention bringing in Alisson. Before that lineup we were leaking in goals far too much so credit has to go to Klopp and the club for addressing the biggest issue we had.

Speaking of defences, Ed1 what team in the premier league would you say currently has the best defence? it's a hard one for me but I'm trying to think of one better than ours and I can't! but you watch more then me so it'd be interesting to hear your views mate.

Somebody tried telling me Man City had the best defence the other day lol I'm still convinced he was just trying to wind me up! Ederson and the defenders can't handle pressure at all and this has been shown every single time a team attacks them! which is why I wish to god more teams would attack them more. It's their biggest weakness and needs exploiting more.

{Ed001's Note - the figures suggest Liverpool's is the best in the league over the last few months. Watching the teams play, I can't think of a better one to argue with the figures over. Certainly not City, who are bloody hopeless defensively, it is just that teams do not get enough of the ball to test out the defence as a rule.}

2.) 26 Sep 2018 07:15:52
Cheers Ed, always good to have your opinion mate!

{Ed001's Note - it has been a long time since we had such a solid defence.}

3.) 26 Sep 2018 08:17:50
"A good offense is the best defense" this statement really epitomizes Mancity if you just replace good with extremely good.

4.) 26 Sep 2018 08:23:30
It’s the best defence in the league since we lost to spurs last season Ed.

5.) 26 Sep 2018 08:26:07
It would have to be between us and Spurs for me but I think we edge it. Spurs haven’t been as solid since Sanchez came in and Toby has been injured/ trying to escape Levy’s London Dungeon.

6.) 26 Sep 2018 11:48:41
The last benchmark defense for the premier league was definitely Conte's team in its first season.

We need to keep doing it consistently for a period of time and I am so hopefully that we will.

This team and coach really needs to and deserves to win trophies and hopefully we will!

7.) 26 Sep 2018 14:09:44
That's such a good point about city. They see so much of the ball their defence isn't tested enough. Kompany was a beast for them but he has struggled with injury way too much and is not the same player as 3/ 4 years ago.

We like to keep the ball too though and are wicked on the break. I really fancy us at the weekend.

Random thought but just saw the video on LFC Facebook of Dirk Kuyt hat trick against manu. I really loved Kuyt, he worked his heart out every game and what he lacked for in ability he made up for in heart. Eds and posters, what did you think of him?

ManahawkinRed

1.) 19 Aug 2018 14:36:06
A very very average footballer.

2.) 19 Aug 2018 14:44:59
He was decent. But him being a regularly starter says a lot of the quality we had in our team at the time.

3.) 19 Aug 2018 15:06:11
Reminded me of Craig Johnston. Maybe not the greatest footballer ever, but his commitment and effort more than made up for that.

4.) 19 Aug 2018 15:07:04
Agree he wasn't the best but he always gave his all for the team.

5.) 19 Aug 2018 15:11:55
I would love to have a Prime Dirk Kuyt in our team now, he always popped up with goals. The man scored over 70 goals for us and was never really an out an out striker. He'd be perfect as cover for Firmino or any of the front 3, would be perfect for Klopp's system!

6.) 19 Aug 2018 15:33:14
In any team you need at least one player who just joins stuff up and keeps the team and the ball moving. KD did that for us the whole time. I’m sorry, but if you could t see that about his play then that’s your ignorance. He also had energy to burn and he used every ounce of it to help the team. He also happened to be a genuinely nice guy.

7.) 19 Aug 2018 16:00:04
Average is very very harsh. He was a decent player that tried really hard and deserves better than that.

8.) 19 Aug 2018 16:28:53
World class attitude was played on left wing and he was a striker.

9.) 19 Aug 2018 18:45:48
Hat Trick against Man Utd in the league.
Double Penalty against Everton in the league.
112th Minute Equaliser against Arsenal from the spot.
88th minute winner against Man Utd in the FA Cup.
Scored in the Champions League final against Milan.
Scored in the League Cup final against Cardiff.
Won the Semi Final Shootout against Chelsea with his penalty.

I love Dirk Kuyt. He was a brilliant player. Lovely person and always gave 100% excellent role model for younger players. It is an insult to call him Average, he was a brilliant player for us.

{Ed025's Note - lovely person and always gave 100% is correct, to say he was a brilliant player is way over the top imho mate..

10.) 19 Aug 2018 21:05:22
Skill wise, Kuyt was an average footballer. HOWEVER, he played in EVERY football final in the game (FA Cup, CL, WC, EFL) and to that, you have to credit the man. He was a warrior, courageous and played with commitment, determination and above all, bravery. Kuyt NEVER hid in games and was ALL about the team and if anyone deserved a hatrick (however way you can get it) vs Utd, it was him.

{Ed025's Note - i agree with all that brover..

11.) 19 Aug 2018 21:35:21
As I recall DK came to us as a decent striker. we turned him into an average winger. At the same time ronalso went to Man u as an average winger and they turned him into a fantastic striker. Says a lot for GH.

12.) 19 Aug 2018 22:43:47
There's a reason he's my banner (sigil? Little photo thing by my name) loved him not because he was a great player but because he gave everything for the club.

13.) 20 Aug 2018 00:40:01
I think you’ve got your timings wrong there Langland.

Rafa signed Kuyt, nothing to do with GH.

14.) 20 Aug 2018 09:10:34
The sort of player that every team with skillful stars needs to not be a pushover - he committed, fought, challenged and made everyone around him a better player by doing so. There is a reason he was still starting for the Netherlands even when they had to create spots for him, and he was still scoring in a decent league right up till the end (hattrick for Feyenoord in his final game to clinch the title aged 37). He might never have had the ability of his companions like Torres and Robben, but I don't think he was carried for a single game in his life.

15.) 20 Aug 2018 19:13:34
To the contrary, Hijkle. Kuyt carried others. Example? The hapless Aquilani.

23 Jul 2018 15:25:49
Really looking forward to the next 5 weeks of constant posts of us being linked to players. We aren't signing anymore apart from maybe some youth and I'm okay with that.

ManahawkinRed

1.) 23 Jul 2018 15:42:33
Yes manahawkinred. Keita is going to be sensational. I don't actually see where fekir would play. I'd rather two defence minded cms one great attacking mid than two attacking miss and one defensive minds. Considering the 3 attacking players up top.

2.) 23 Jul 2018 15:44:36
The transfer window closes in just over 2 weeks.

3.) 23 Jul 2018 16:11:37
We're an attacking team, so I don't want 2 of our midfielders to be holding players - Fabinho is more than enough for that role.

4.) 23 Jul 2018 16:43:27
It's a squad game. We are playing Marathon not sprint.

5.) 23 Jul 2018 18:02:36
Hey Kramer
Just because the window shuts doesn't mean that we won't be linked with other players.

6.) 23 Jul 2018 18:15:40
Spot on, Stg. One game at a time and go from there. What ever happens, stay clear-eyes and stick to the plan. s for the midfield, Naby in the 10 with Hendo ahead of Fab, would be tasty for me as well.

7.) 23 Jul 2018 21:11:02
I think first choice midfield is keita hendo and fab. That's got quite a defensive feel but with talent too.

8.) 24 Jul 2018 03:44:30
Robbie, I think that's what we need, and what we've seen from Keita he definitely isn't shy to burst into the open space when it's there for him or make some great runs forward to open up space. The defensive midfield will allow our front 3 focus on attack and pressuring the back 4. Should be fun to watch.

Hessle, no one lol. We aren't making any squad additions until the summer, which will likely be dictated by players being sold.

I'm just enjoying watching us play honestly, not getting the trophies I've wanted but some of the best football I've seen us play in a long time. Typically disagree with ED002's opinions, but respect his knowledge and his ability to deal with constant abuse.

I've learned that on these issues, we just wait for ED002 to tell us what they actually mean because the posters get it wrong 98% of the time.

Ron is typically a positive guy, but he's right. If you lose 3-0, your gameplan and gameplay are far from perfect or right. Don't think the team selection was right, mane had a field day down the left but had minimal support centrally with wiji as the false 9. Defense wasn't up to par, and finishing was poor.

I support the reds through anything but let's take off the red tinted glasses and stop acting like that result is anything worth celebrating or praising.

With that being said, we have the talent and fight to make a game out of it in the second leg, with Firmino back we could very well put Barcelona under a lot of pressure and make things interesting. I believe that this team can do it.

I only started watching in 2004, so for me it has to be Gerrard. Absolutely adored him and modelled my own game off of him. Closely followed by Andri Voronin.

In the U. S. at youth level up to age 12 (At least in NJ), they aren't allowed to head the ball. It's an indirect free kick for the other team if they do. Maybe the one thing the U. S. is doing that's better than the rest of the world.

Pointless to compare, so many variables. What if City advance far in the champs league? Are they going to continue to field there strongest team in the premier league with the possibility of winning a trophy that has eluded them for this long?

What if we lose to Bayern? What if we advance? What if Aguero gets injured? What if Salah gets injured?

I'm enjoying the ride, but I have a good feeling about this year.
