Just want to start a thread on AOC.

I can't make up my mind on him. not exactly mouthwatering signing.

He does strike me as someone who with the right encouragement from Klopp could develop well.

I just feel in the last few seasons he has been wasteful with little end product, the very old flash of brilliance.

So as you can see Iv basically gone around in circles and said nothing, hence why I am interested to see some opinions.

Cheers lads.

Do you know where you want to play him? Coz in 6 years Wenger had no clue of his position!

2.) 30 Aug 2017 06:13:27
I have to admit that I had doubts about the Mane and Wijnaldum signings last year, but they turned out to be important players for us. I hope the same happens for Oxlade.

3.) 30 Aug 2017 06:59:47
Difference between Wijnaldum, Mane and Ox is that Mane and Wijnaldum are actually good footballers, Ox is not a very good footballer. Very very average at best. Would you be happy if Coutinho goes and we bring Ox in rather than Lemar? I know I wouldn't.

4.) 30 Aug 2017 07:32:13
Jeez, Mr Dennis, you certainly like to emphasise your point. Every post in the past month regarding AOC has a negative comment from you underneath. I prefer to give the lad a chance rather than hammering him before he's kicked a ball for us.
He has power, pace and potential plus he has age on his side. Best of all, he wants to play for us. Give the lad a break.

5.) 30 Aug 2017 07:38:10
My take on Ox - he needs a lot of work, he is way behind where he should be in his development.
LFC is not the place for him to catch up as he will struggle to get regular game time.
We have plenty of equally talented players already here who we could develop.

6.) 30 Aug 2017 07:40:49
He'd improve the backup levels but like most I'd struggle to see him adding competition for starting places.

7.) 30 Aug 2017 08:06:04
Voronins left foot, a large part of the reason we never actually win trophies is that we always settle for second best instead of buying actual quality. Oxlade is the equivalent of us going for Downing when Mata was also available. You say he had power and pace, but you miss out out the most critical things, skill, intelligence and decision making, which he doesn't have. You can't sudddenly teach these things at his age, he's as good as he is going to ever get and he's certainly not worth £40m when we have other priorities, such as a commanding centre half and the Coutinho sized hole in the squad that we will imminently have.

8.) 30 Aug 2017 10:01:40
Agree with Ron, at his age he isn't yet good enough to justify spending the time developing him. But would also disagree with Mr Dennis about ability to develop. Pace and strength are things you can only develop so much from the natural level, you can't make a slow person quick no matter how much you work on it. You can take someone with a decent level of ability and improve their skills by a higher factor than their speed. So he has the room to improve the question would be why hasn't he so far? Is that entirely down to Wenger or is he not working on it or is there an underlying reason? As has been said about some players already at LFC the hardest thing to fix is mental side. You can have someone with natural pace and teach them to have great skills but if they can't perform under pressure at speed because their brain can't do it hen that it never going to change. If LFC sign AOC then I'd hope that isn't the reason he hasn't developed further, there are already too many players at the club who struggle with the mental side of the top level of EPL expectations.

Interesting stuff lads.

It seems he may well join us, if he comes I will support him of course but I am hoping this deal doesn't go through personally.

For me, Van Diijk is key, anyone else is a luxury at this stage.

To be honest I am happy the clock is ticking down on the transfer Window. I was so excited this summer but at this stage I am sick of it.

Looking forward to the game tomorrow, I expect our front 3 to go berserk tomorrow and give Palace some serious problems.

The middle 3 (assuming Gigi, Emre, Henderson) NEED to put in a performance, they need to dominate this game and set a marker for what teams can expect coming to Anfield this season.

The back 4, Excited to watch TAA, can see us scoring from a corner with his delivery. Moreno, has been decent recently so let's see if he can show some consistency.

CB's, under serious scrutiny let's hope they can handle Benteke.

First thing I am noting tomorrow is how we pick up players and defend Corners.

Win or learn boys, Win or learn.

I'll save you some time, we won't pick up their players from corners and apparently we are incapable of "winning or learning" when it comes to this particular point. We haven't been able to defend properly since Rafa left really.

Iv had one moan on here about our defending set pieces last night so il try to be positive-ish today

TAA, I believe he deserves a run of games now to try and nail down his position over Clyne. I want to asses his defending a bit more but going forward he offers more of a threat, in particular I liked how he really whipped in those corners. Almost had a couple of goals from them.

Salah, I think he's exactly what we needed. Probably the least accomplished in terms of technique, comparing to players like firmino but he is always trying to make runs in behind, whether from deep or via quick passing around the box. I think we will score a lot of goals this season. Hoping Salah improves his composure as he settles in though, probably could have had a hat trick.

Trying to find positives about the middle 3. going to leave that one there.

Finally, Dom Solanke was sharp in pre season, was brillant in the summer for England, Origi looked woeful in the Aviva Stadium, missed couple of sitters and the ball was bouncing of his shins anytime it was knocked up to him, he needs to improve his control. I would personally like to see him ahead of Origi in the pecking order.

Of course it is important to have tall physical defenders for set pieces, but there is no excuse, for not concentrating, not communicating and most importantly, not attacking the ball!

How tall is Lucas? Anytime I watched him fill in at CB last season he won way more headers than he was entitled to! Because he was brave and determined to get his head on the ball OR disrupt his opponent.

Its not rocket Science, just be brave and attack the football when it comes into the box, Im sick of our players making half hearted efforts, You can literally see them waiting around for somebody else to make the header.

Going to the game on Tuesday, hoping for a big performance.

I just posted about this! I think for me it's a combination of small players playing small. If you get my drift? Lucas played big ya know? If only Gini, hendo, lallana etc had lucas' attitude when attacking the ball in the box aye? Unfortunately at set piece time we only have listen and matip.

Having said that. we don't concede at every asset piece, so I think it's just a matter of working with the group, finding what does work and continue to reinforces that so it becomes a habit.

2.) 13 Aug 2017 03:51:58
We very rarely win headers anywhere on the pitch especially yesterday!

3.) 13 Aug 2017 07:57:32
Spot on OP anf Faith. Our boys simply lack bottle in heading situations. Look at Wiji on the third goal. It looked like he docked on the header instead of showing grit and making sure he made enuff contact with the ball. He just went in half-heartedly. Faioth, I agree with Lucas. The guy was brilliant in the air as he is old school. A true warrior. last season, he shut out Harry Kane and won almost every header vs him when we beat Spurs at home. He plays big and our players even the tall ones, play small. No leadership, no communication, no determination to fight for aerial balls. Heck, we don't even jump for these balls so how are we supposed to compete?

Living one hour away from Hoffenheim for the last year. Delighted with the draw, should be my first chance to watch Liverpool live for 3 years!

Seen my fair share of Bundesliga games last season, Dortmund, Frankfurt, Mainz, Leipzig, but nothing better than watching the reds!

Cant wait.

Cant drop any of them, they will need to wait there chance for a dip in form/ cup game/ injury.

3 Midfield players were excellent and deserve their spot in the team.

Henderson is probably most vulnerable as of now but you can see him improving every game.

OP is spot on. You simply cannot drop any of the players based on that performance. We were magnificent and the football was a joy to watch. Players will have dips in form over a long tough season, and if we are serious about challenging in all competitions it would be great to have ferocious competition across all positions.

You can actually see now Clyne, TAA are going to have to up their gam e again because Gomez staked a claim today. Robertson is bringing the best out of Moreno.

If Coutinho stays I can't see him walking back into a starting Spot.

I believe 2/ 3 more signings in the obvious positions and we are really well equipped for this year.

Feeling positive.

What an overreaction, We are talking about a tackle in a game of football. These things happen regularly, often read of ex pros talking about training ground bust ups.
I accept that you can't condone it, nor do I MK, but really to say you would not support him in a Liverpool tackle is borderline pathetic.

I enjoy reading your opinions MK, usually agree but have to say this is a ridiculous overreaction.

Alles gute.
