Could do with some perspective please gents, should we be worried about the poor pre season form?

NorthYorkshireRed

{Ed025's Note - absolutely not NYR, the front 3 have not played and they define the team and how they play, pre-season means absolutely nothing in terms of results mate its all about fitness and trying different options..

1.) 28 Jul 2019 22:29:55
Hi Ed025, value your opinion mate as always. Wanted to ask you do you think or no if we are still actively looking to bring anyone in mate please?

2.) 28 Jul 2019 22:36:21
virgil, out of interest - what would be the difference between the people responsible for transfer activity just doing their jobs and them actively looking to bring in anyone?

3.) 28 Jul 2019 22:37:15
Everton were crushed in the pre-season last season and had a respectable season. They should have drawn with us twice. Pre-season means nothing. Having said that, I am a little concerned with some of the goals we have allowed. Some were the fault of Mignolet, but most were because of poor marking. We'll see what happens this season.

4.) 28 Jul 2019 22:48:28
Stone, Mignolet is worth a two goal head start to the opponents. Today it was three. At this stage I’d sell him and let Lonergan be number two. Even Fatty Faulks, or Billy the Fish out of Viz. Just not Mignolet.

{Ed0333's Note - Andrea Bocelli would have saved at least two of those goals today. Simon Mignolet needs moving on.

5.) 28 Jul 2019 22:59:30
Stevie Wonder too Ed.

6.) 28 Jul 2019 23:16:02
I really don't see the panic here, we've lost a few preseason games and the season is over. People like to say the team rely on the front three too much, but that's three players. Chelsea last season relied so much on Hazard, Spurs are the same with Kane. More or less one player or bust.
My answer to that would be how many of the front three played the second leg against Barca.

One question for the Ed or any posters that have an idea, what is going wrong at Real Madrid, are the wheels totally off or will they spend their way out of trouble?

{Ed0333's Note - you’re always gonna have issues when men with gargantuan egos have pissing contests. I’m not sure Zidane’s resurrection will be so successful.

7.) 28 Jul 2019 23:34:58
yeah 6 times, they could literally sign me and I could do as well as Mignolet did today.

8.) 28 Jul 2019 23:43:40
Thanks for the reply Ed. Totally agree with u on Zidane probably ending on a sour note. But Madrid like United will be back, they're huge clubs, it's just a matter of how many hundreds of millions it takes to get them there.

9.) 28 Jul 2019 23:43:19
Am I worried out about the preseason results no, simply because we are without Salah, Bobby and Mane and not to mention Allison. Would I like more signings yes and no, someone like Sessegnon or in that mould that can cover left back and left forward would be perfect. No, because Ox is back and if Naby can rekindle his Bundesliga form those are two new signings. I think people are forgetting we finished a point behind City and won the Champions League with this current squad.

10.) 29 Jul 2019 00:49:19
Pre season results aside its more about getting lads upto pace trying different systems or different playere in different roles etc. The results aren't so worrying for me . What is worrying and this isn't a knee jerk reaction is, we got fortunate with are front 3 over the last 2 seasons with them being relatively injury free and not serving many if at all any suspensions. if we lose mane, bobby and even salah to a certain extent for any period of time this season we are going to be in a world of pain .
Brewster looks like he will develop into a player but its going to take time . big divock is not the answer, he's useful at times from the bench, but when he starts he always looks way out of his depth.

I know the noise coming out of the club is we are actively looking for a versatile AM who can play in the forward line of 3 if needed, but if we don't bring someone of better quality in than divock we struggle at times this year as i see all 3 of them forwards suffering from flat patches/ burn out and niggles this year.

11.) 28 Jul 2019 23:10:24
Ed you say the front three define us, but does that not highlight the need for cover? I think origi off the bench is great, he’s different and scores big goals. Ox wants to be and for me is more effective as a cm, and then shaqiri who I actually like as despite his unwillingness to defend much, does seem to just always produce a great ball once a game, which could be the difference between a draw and three points. However, shaq is more of an impact sub for me too.

{Ed025's Note - the thing for me firmane is that can any of the back up strikers be relied upon to perform for a length of time, yes origi is a good impact sub and brewster may have something about him but we are talking about a crucial time in liverpools history here mate, this is your best chance to win a premier league title ever and i just dont think you have enough in the tank if things go tits up on the injury front..

12.) 29 Jul 2019 07:54:10
Where’s that pie eating gk? Surely worth a punt.

13.) 29 Jul 2019 08:27:07
That’s what I meant ed, we need the cover for the above reasons!

14.) 29 Jul 2019 11:11:04
You’re spot on 25, I put up a post regarding pre season, the front three are not just the attacking outlet but they defend form the front, especially Bobby, watch him live, he stop closing down the ball. Our success in the 70’ and especially the 80’s was driven from the front. Rushey was brilliant at closing down from the front.

With regard to back up, I’m with you too, especially around the festive period, unless we send the kids out to Qatar I really don’t see how we’ll cope if the injuries kick in.

I could be totally wrong but judging on last years dip, I’m not so sure.

Danny Murphy showing his wisdom recently, replace Firmino with Ousemane Dembele what a joke.

NorthYorkshireRed

1.) 18 Jul 2019 16:50:04
And we will keep on being linked with Dembele. Barcelona are waiting to cash in. As Ed002 has explained many times, it ain't happening. Thank heavens as we do not need baggage.

2.) 18 Jul 2019 16:45:53
He’s as bad as Danny Mills or Steve Nicol. Utterly clueless the lot of them.

3.) 19 Jul 2019 00:58:39
I know Danny Murphy is not the brightest bulb in the room but the fact that he would have us replace Bobbie with Dembele shows that he literally has no idea where Bobbie plays. Good Grief!

4.) 19 Jul 2019 21:17:59
I swear the pundits on the edges, like murphy, who does a few motd2s, decide to say soomething controversial to get them in the news.
It has to be something that can't be proved, unlike "liverpool are no longer a big club" (thats leeds danny, not liverpool)

Ive always thought of dembele as a winger as opposed to a cf.

Imo Salahs goal against Everton was not as good as Bales against us so it's got me thinking, who else thinks they gave him that award because it was so close between him and Modric for Player of the Year? Gutted for him but I can see why Modric got it I guess. At least it went to someone other than Ronaldo and Messi.

NorthYorkshireRed

1.) 24 Sep 2018 21:27:38
The whole thing is a complete farce. Courtois was voted goalkeeper of the year yet wasn’t in the team of the year, Salah was on the top 3 shortlist for player of the year yet wasn’t in the team of the year. The whole thing is a big popularity contest and a bit of a joke really.

2.) 24 Sep 2018 21:51:39
Great goal but nowhere near the wow factor of Bale or Ronaldo. at the ebd of the day it comes down to winning trophies. If yous would have won the CL salah would have hands down won the award. Awesome player btw.

3.) 24 Sep 2018 21:54:31
I can't believe Salah is not in the FIFA team of the year, scandalous!

4.) 24 Sep 2018 21:58:51
Top 3 for player of the year but didn’t make team of the year? 👀🤷🏽‍♂️.

5.) 24 Sep 2018 22:02:40
So close between him and modric but he isn't in the team of the year?

6.) 24 Sep 2018 22:53:06
Salah’s goal against Everton wasn’t even Salah’s best goal last season. The 2nd goal against Spurs at Anfield was an unbelievable goal!
I’d still give it to Bale though just because it was in the CL final and what a finish.

7.) 24 Sep 2018 22:56:53
NYR, to answer your question that was my initial thought as well. But I am a bit cynical by nature.

8.) 24 Sep 2018 23:17:27
I wrote that before the team came out what a joke. So basically to get in the team you either have to play for Madrid or Barcelona or be very likely to sign to for one of them in the next summer window. Salah deserved the spot Hazard or Mbappe got easily.

9.) 25 Sep 2018 02:39:00
Isn't each award the result of different votes, available to different groups? So it's perfectly possible that these results could happen. They don't all have to corroborate each other.

Team of the season was voted for by players and managers.

I think that the goal of the season that Salah won was open to the public and obviously hi-jacked by LFC fans (I didn't see any campaign on social media though) .

10.) 25 Sep 2018 05:30:35
Riley McGree scored an outside the box scorpion kick and didn’t win it. be sure the check his goal out if you haven’t already lads.

11.) 25 Sep 2018 10:01:47
His goal against Watford was his best goal.

12.) 25 Sep 2018 14:28:38
OGIII. I was at the game and saw McGree's goal live. just mesmerising!

19 Aug 2018 13:05:36
We're always talking about strength in depth, just look at the city bench with KDB out injured!

NorthYorkshireRed

1.) 19 Aug 2018 15:34:50
Yeah. Good job KDB was out injured. Only 6:1 in his absence. We really do have our work cut out here, but it’s not impossible. Each game as it comes.

18 Jul 2018 19:49:30
Well that moved very quickly! Not really seen much of Allison so fingers crossed it's a good move for everybody. So which one do we sell out of Ward and Karius or do we think they are going to be festering with the rest of our bloated squad or the loan list.
Gutted for the Ox and for us. He'll be missed. Fingers crossed he makes a full recovery.

NorthYorkshireRed

1.) 18 Jul 2018 20:34:00
Apparently Allison has the potential to be world class, 1 season with our goalkeeping coaches and he should drop down to our usual standard of keeper ;0)

Good job he wasn’t vague about it, that could’ve harmed his credibility.

That’s confusing, why would it save them money on payments to us? Surely any money owed has to be honoured regardless of whether he is there or not? Or are we talking about add ons for appearances, etc?

NorthYorkshireRed

{Ed002's Note - We are talking about a large sum of money that would be due if he stayed, played and Barcelona were successful. I have explained the structure of the fee before. Sadly many of the fans don’t believe it.}

Llalana is definitely not one of our top 3. He slows play down with the amount of touches he has to take, he doesn’t offer enough of a goal threat and the lad can not stay fit. Technically decent but it wouldn’t affect the team if he were to seek first team opportunities elsewhere.

It always confuses me that window after window our asking price seems too high for Markovic and others. Just get rid, we’re still going to be paying wages regardless of a loan I assume so let them go and try and resurrect their careers.

Agree with Zeddicus on this one. Depending on the costs involved it could be a good move for a year. It wouldn’t just be the goalkeepers that would have something to learn from Buffons wealth of experience, the defence, attackers and on big games he has experience with pressure that many of the current squad have not experienced (although they may have an insight at the end of this month! )

£6mil does seem a lot for a child regardless of what he may become later in his career although I agree we should be fair an honourable when buying academy players from so called lesser clubs. I’m still disgusted over the whole Jay Spearing Bolton fiasco. We’re great on the pitch not so much with our conduct of it though.

NorthYorkshireRed

{Ed002's Note - Liverpool have pulled in a lot for the academy players they have let go - sort of the going rate. I would agree it has stated to get out of hand.}

I’ve never enjoyed reading such a sore topic more! I remember those years and signings so well. Every year on this site we had the same rumours Simao, Alves, Aguero, Villa, Silva, Dubai investment, etc only to be disappointed by these clowns.
Thanks for your efforts Ed must have been a painful research!

NorthYorkshireRed

{Ed001's Note - it was very painful.}

Not seen the video so don’t know what he has done but at 16 he can hardly be blamed for foolishness. I hope he will be well managed, advised and protected while he is with us. I dread to think what trouble most of us would have been in if we had been so heavily scrutinised when we were that age.

You’d have to say failure I think. Although a successful season by any standard there wouldn’t have been any improvements on last season and a step back if anything.
