Feels like the Virgil saga is moving forward. Heard om the Anfield wrap that we are currently in talk with Southampton. Today we got the article about Southampton need to sell before buying. The rumour is that they are close om signing Hoedt, and this part of the article in the daily echo from Southampton chairman two days ago. Krueger was asked whether Saints would even turn down a ludicrous offer if one came in and replied: “I will tell you one thing - over the years we have spoken I don't give definite answers where there isn't a definite. "

Hopefully the deal van be done, and he is worth the ludicrous sum we have to pay.

Ed002 has said there has been no contact between the clubs since our Statement withdrawing interest. Therefor we can not be in talks with them.

2.) 18 Aug 2017 17:51:08
Or maybe we are in talks with them, and Ed002 hasn't been made aware?

Time for positive thinking. Trent looked absolute quality, Henderson is back and Salah is a quality signing for a bargain fee. We will sign more players, and if we sell Coutinho we will receive a record breaking fee. Not like arsenal or Chelsea where the contracts run out. We can make a couple of signings and this can still be our year!

I know this is probably an exaggeration. But TAA was sending in some of the best corners I've seen from a red shirt in years!

2.) 14 Aug 2017 10:06:02
spot on, Oy. We have to rally and circle the wagons now as Hoffenhiem is the biggest game in our season right now. Forget Watford. Take the positives (and there were several) and learn QUICKLY from the negatives. We go again!

3.) 14 Aug 2017 10:38:29
Not sure 35mil can be classified as a 'bargain fee'.

4.) 14 Aug 2017 10:19:19
That isn't an exaggeration Faith, those crosses were of exceptional quality, they beat the first man and put the defence under pressure on another day someone gets on the end of them and its in the net. This is where our lack of height and aerial ability let's us down.

5.) 14 Aug 2017 11:07:15
Mr Dennis, height is not the issue, IMO. Actually, we had both our CB's get on the end of both of TAA's corners and one forced a save and another hit the post. On a good day, we score both and we win the game and no one would care if we conceded 2/ 3 goals even tho, it would still be a concern.

So much negativity these days on this page that I try to stay away. We won away against Stoke on the fist day. If that does not make you happy, why bother support a team.

I see two arguments again and again, One step forward two seasons ago, two steps back last season. Second argument is that he is not treating the players that the fans like correctly. Like Lucas, Gerrard and Ilori.

My argument for a second chance WITH optimism this season is that we played without attackers last season. We all know the style we and rogders like to play, and it involves attackers. We now have bought them. Why not give Rodgers the chance to replicate two seasons ago. I for once would gladly take the chance of failing, if we can get back to playing good football challenging for the league.

Second criticism is that Lucas is mistreated because he got promised playing time last christmas. GUYS! He actually got playing time, he even got playing time in the preseason. What Rodgers have decided is that he rather play Allen and Can than Lucas. Things have changed. Lucas now know his position, and he wants first team football and is looking for a new club. I struggle to see how that is bad management. For Ilori we still don't know how much he is going to play this season. I am sure he is not expecting to be a starter, and I am sure he will get chances. How can you already know how much he is going to play. Look at Can. Everyone said he is not going to play in the midfield this season. First game he got a chance.

Last thing is about the young players not getting a chance. I struggle to see how playing Ibe, Can and Gomez not getting a chance. Please give Rodgers a rest. He can actually be the guy brining us forward, and you cannot possible be sure that he is not. Same with players. You can either boo or sing. If you sing you can bring out the little extra. If you boo, shame on you.

I have no idea what style Rodgers likes to play, it's a bit of the problem with him. The only really consistent thing is passes back to the keeper.

2.) 15 Aug 2015 01:45:01
Also, Can, Gomez, and to an extent Ibe aren't the young players being referred to- it's the kids from our Academy not playing, largely because we keep buying the sorts of players you've mentioned on top of them blocking their progression.

3.) 15 Aug 2015 01:53:25
Still amazes me that there are still people out there not seeing Rodgers for what he is. The club cannot sustain his method of buying players without any plan of how to use them whilst overlooking the obvious positions where we are weak, especially when you bring in players that nobody else will touch with a barge poll like Ballotelli because the manager's ego thinks he can polish a turd that has no intention of taking the talent they have on to the pitch and repaying the Faith put in him. Sorry mate but Rodgers deserves the bullet for that decision alone.

4.) 15 Aug 2015 02:26:29
Gomez and can were never in our youth, that's the problem, there's a difference between playing young players, and developing our youth products.

5.) 15 Aug 2015 06:09:30
I am not a fan of Rodgers but i'm also not a hater i'm a fan of Liverpool fc and will follow and support who ever leads and whoever wears the red (damn as much as i hated Hodgson i still supported him and his wacky buys), but i like Oyvinds post and to a degree think he's right, as i think you cannot name a youth that has been stopped playing for Liverpool (not used/played by Rodgers because of his buys) that has went on and been a success anywhere else in the three years since he has taken over so maybe they aren't good enough, just because you came through the academy don't mean you deserve the right to play for the first team, it means if your good enough you should get first chance at the role and if you don't shine in the training, preseason etc you don't get the job.
So what i really want to say is stop the hating and bitching over the repeated same things its tiresome and support the club you are supposed to love.

6.) 15 Aug 2015 07:29:30
Yeah i agree with original post. Too much negativity here already after one game which we actually won. First game is about result not performance . I'm optimistic that with the change of backroom staff that we can get back to a free flowing attacking unit again. The signings this summer look good at least we have that focal point again which we badly missed last year.and we weren't going to find that in the academy . if any of the kids are good enough they will play you can't bring through 3 every year and hope to compete.

{Ed001's Note - this nonsense about 'if any are good enough they will play' is ridiculous. Flanno, who was more than good enough, has shown how difficult it is to get a chance. He needed an major injury crisis to get a run of games, and showed how young players can grow into the team when they get that chance. We will not see that happen again because we would have to have 30 players injured to have a space in the squad!}

Good post, Oyvind and some good replies. It's nice to see some calm and friendly posts with good balanced arguments. I'm in the camp of Oyvind, Superreds and Bruffio but can appreciate why Ed and others get so frustrated. I don't agree with all of the arguments against BR but like reading those that are positive arguments for why someone else would be better.

It's the extreme and petty ones that keep me away from the site often which are generated from people who have made up their minds that BR is wrong and have taken the route of picking any negative story to validate their points.

It'll be nice to have some refreshing posts about why specific other managers would do better for our club and what strengths they each bring, examples etc. rather than just trashing the current manager. At least that way we can all have a good think and debate about the subject rather than just argue about the knives being out.

I await the abuse. Chuckle!

Lallana's injury shows how much we need another midfielder. We have fivee games in a short period and we need to rotate our players. That mean that Can, Henderson, Gini, and Coutinho needs to stay fit or we actually have to play grujic, or milner. If we play milner in mid that leads to Moreno on left back. Ox makes a lot of sense to me. Both as a slot in for the three attackers, or for lallanas position.

If Liverpool or another club is paying the realease clause on deadline day, Villa will not have much time to find a replacement. Question is then if Villa is willing to sell sooner to a smaller fee to get more time to use the money wisely? I bellieve so and therefore the fee should be close to £30m.

It also seems like we are waiting for the Sterling deal to go through before finalising the deal.

If Sterling wants to be our best paid player he should do whatever he can to get as good as possible. I an sure ronaldo never drinks like that in a season, and that's why he is the best in the world. Rooney could probably be at the same level, but never was professional enough. Seems like sterling has the same attitude, with less talent.

Seems like fans, refs, player and media all have a split view of this red card. My take is that it's orange and some refs will give red card, and some don't. when it's given, there is no point in appealing since FA will always protect the ref if there isn't a huge mistake. This red card was debatable, but not a huge mistake.

A wider discussion is about three games ban for a red card is to harsh, in the same way that yellow is often too soft, and red is too hard. Could it be something in between. Orange card with 10 minutes on the sideline could bee an idea.

Oyvinds

{Ed002's Note - Anything to make it easier for Liverpool of course.}

Only thing that doesn't make sense with what ed002 says is that Coutinho signed a new contract. Why would he do that if he was so sure he wanted to go? And without release clauses. At the time he even saying: Stay here and they will end up building a statue in your honour. Go somewhere else, to Barcelona, to Bayern Munich, to Real Madrid, and you will be just another player.

For me that does not add up with a player that desperately wants to go to Barcelona.

Oyvinds

{Ed002's Note - Release clauses? What are you talking about?

I have heard that Information was leaked by Southampton that VvD had meet with Klopp in Blackpool. The information they had was a mail that was sent by a mistake to the wrong person, and then they got hold of it. Just a roumur, but seems plausible.

The issue how I see it is that the midfield is lacking a player than can find gaps and turn around under pressure. Instead we are playing the ball back to the defence and they have to play a long ball to firmino who is to small to win the duels. We lose the ball, and the midfield is too far away to counter press, and it's all a mess. So for the system to work we need Phil or lallana, and that will actually help defensively because when we lose possession we will be in better positions for counter pressing and the team will be more like an unit. Now the gaps are too big and our defenders have to face too many one on one situations.
