Ed002, I am curious about Barcelona's position being that they 'won't wait a year'.

Why is that? They clearly don't have another target?

Not questioning it, just doesn't make sense to me. If they want him, why won't they want him next year? All seems a little odd.

PC10YouWillBeMissed

{Ed002's Note - They need a replacement for Iniesta.}

1.) 11 Aug 2017 15:12:08
Iniesta is good to go another year, and will likely do so. They can wait, rather than using these threat tactics.

{Ed002's Note - That is not the plan and there are no "threat tactics" - it is embarrassing seeming these posts.}

2.) 11 Aug 2017 15:16:59
You're right, them saying "its now or never" is not strictly a threat, but to a player who they know is keen, it is a cynical attempt to have him pressurise his current club.
Regardless of 'Barca's plan', I am sure it was not in Liverpool's plan to sell him, and nor do they have to, so make Barcelona wait.

3.) 11 Aug 2017 15:21:37
It's about what we need . not them!

4.) 11 Aug 2017 15:25:51
Counts should be made to train with VVD.

5.) 11 Aug 2017 15:26:25
Look at it this way when we were after a LB would we have told Hull "It's ok lads hang on to him until you're ready we can manage another year without one"?

6.) 11 Aug 2017 15:39:43
I agree, pc is a fantastic player who is still going to be fantastic next year. It's not a threat but is going to make pc edgy for sure. The fact is that we have been on the other end of this with kieta and vvd and have lost out so why should we back down now?

We simply can't afford to lose him this year. However, having a player like pc not enthusiastic is a worry for me as when he is not on form he is pretty poor.

I think we should tell Barcelona "give us rakitic AND gomes plus forty/ fifty mil and he is yours. That way pc is happy, we have an exciting replacement in gomes and much needed added depth with rakitic.

I believe this would suit all parties and appease fans (like myself) who are calling for more signings. If you're reading klopp, I urge you to consider.

Eds sorry to bug you, do you think it's possible we could get two players in the deal?

{Ed001's Note - why would we want two players that are not good enough for them to replace a player who is? That's even if you forget about having to pay them taking up all the money received.}

7.) 11 Aug 2017 15:50:24
Give us inesta then aswell, id have him for 2 years 😉.

8.) 11 Aug 2017 15:53:17
Why do people think Rakitic is still a good player? It's like you haven't actually watched football for two years? His legs have gone and he's simply not up to it at the top level any more, he lacks the intelligence for his brain to take him where his legs can't. As for Gomes, I'm not convinced that he's good enough and thought Barcelona were mugs for paying so much for a player of the back of some ok-ish performances in the Euros.

9.) 11 Aug 2017 15:56:31
I am not looking forward to this season at all. I believe in Klopp and the players we have but we need more to take on all competitions and stay 4th. If Coutinho goes and no one comes in, I hope they make sorting out the way we go about transfers a priority.

10.) 11 Aug 2017 15:59:20
Oh yeah, keep forgetting about Barcelona players wages. Not being good enough for Barcelona doesn't make you a donkey by any means. And they must have something for Barcelona to sign them in the first place but the wages are a good point although Phil is on a fair bit and we have missed out on other players so we must have enough to cover a couple of high end signings?

Cheers for the feedback ed01. I guess I'm trying desperately to put a positive spin on the pipco saga.

{Ed001's Note - they buy crap too you know, though Rakitic was good when they got him, he is shot now and Gomes was a poor buy.}

11.) 11 Aug 2017 16:23:14
Barcelona know full well, as we all do, that prices for players are going through the roof. If Couthino has a good domestic season followed by a decent World Cup, his price will go up even further.

12.) 11 Aug 2017 16:55:24
Personally I wouldn't want any swap deal with Barcelona if we were to get the 100+ mil for Phil then I would invest in a top front man and ask firminho to drop back into his natural position.

13.) 11 Aug 2017 15:22:04
If their plan is to replace Iniesta like Ed002 is saying, then lfc should negotiate a deal to bring Iniesta plus cash. Iniesta can still offer us two years in pl?

{Ed002's Note - They would certainly be open to that but I don't know if the player would be interested.}

14.) 11 Aug 2017 15:24:43
Ok, so basically Iniesta is being phased out this season with Coutinho the heir to the throne (so to speak)?

Fair enough, cheers. I didn't realise that was the situation with Iniesta.

{Ed002's Note - Yes. Coutinho was not first choice but they want the replacement this summer.}

15.) 11 Aug 2017 15:24:46
Eds, I don't understand why Coutinho, like VVD, wants to sign a new 5 years contract when he already have an ambition to play for Barcelona since last year?

{Ed002's Note - He got a very good pay rise out of it.}

16.) 11 Aug 2017 18:36:11
I think that is a decent idea Al hassan. If they are SO desperate for iniesta replacement then we take iniesta. That would certainly ease liverpool fans loss of pc. Like ed says, would he want to join? I think at this stage in his career liverpool would be perfect for him.

I also like suggestion of selling pc (don't wanna sell him, but if we must) and using money for top forward. If this had been handled properly then we could have had lacazette. Bobby dropping back to 10. The problem is who? Who can we sign at this late stage? Luan? Good player but not good enough to be top man.

17.) 11 Aug 2017 19:22:43
'Couts should be made to train with VVD' yes pllease! At melwood preferably.

18.) 11 Aug 2017 20:06:09
The only 2 players worth a swap and Suarez and Messi and we know that isn't going to happen. Wouldn't want to take any of the other players, though that being said not at phils level but i do like Delefeou not really sure we need another winger though!

I've been extremely dubious all summer about our huge bids for players with seemingly nothing coming back in. Were we trying to do a Spurs when they knew Bale was going? I think so.

Now though, we're too late in the window, we didn't get our targets for all sorts of reasons, mainly total ineptitude by the club, and have ended up with no Keita, no VVD and Coutinho now trying to leave. However, as I say, it is so late in the window that our attempts are in vein and Coutinho simply has to stay (despite my username haha) .

HOWEVER.

Despite all that, let's PLEASE not forget the players we DO have and who DO want to play for us, and with great pride. The transfer window makes us all forget that and we have some really good players. We are in the Champions League this season and Salah looks to be an absolute star who suits the team, he's not just a name, you can see Klopp's thinking in bringing him in.

The season starts for us tomorrow, we have a season opener to win and then a crucial away leg of a Champions League qualifier vs Hoffenheim. We need to support the team. let's try and put Coutinho at the back of our minds for now, we have a team to support and if we snot Watford, who even cares quite frankly? If he does go, we get an absolute bag of cash and there's no way FSG won't sanction some deals, be it this summer of next, that money could bring in two absolutely fantastic players, you know, like VVD and Keita.

Coutinho may go, he may not, but save that for Wednesday. SUPPORT THE TEAM!

Ok, so, let's get to the bottom of this.

The club release strong statement saying he is not for sale for any price.

Shortly after Coutinho hands in a transfer request.

We knew that was coming, didn't we?

Literally can't be bothered with this anymore.

Ed02 has said the TR reports are false.

Good afternoon Eds,

Firstly, I am not questioning for a second the information you have provided about VVD, I take that as the truth and it's beyond embarrassing from Klopp, the club and all involved, as is our conduct with other transfers.

However, the question really is simple. Why haven't the media (i. e. tabloid newspapers etc. ) said anything about it at all? Is there a superinjuction?

Thanks

Rich.

PC10YouWillBeMissed

{Ed002's Note - I have no idea what the media have said and haven't said. There is certainly no "super injuction". Without doubt the Telegraph went some way to descibe the lengths the club went to to lie to an investigation, the try and persuade the parents of the child whose career they screwed to lie to the investigation and the ban the club are serving right now - and perhaps they alluded to why the club were so willing to accept the ban and not contest it?}

Ed002

More importantly, what has happened to that young lad? Has he been picked up by another club or has he gone back to his grassroots club or worse case scenario given up on football totally? Would genuinely like to know how that kid is getting on since then as all of this has obviously had a terrible effect on him and his family of course.

{Ed002's Note - He can't be. He is in a position whereby only a club that pays the full tuition fees of youngsters already (and there are only a couple) can get them out of this whole. Everton agreed to pay the transfer of registration fee which was small, but you cannot single out one player and make payments to the family to cover education unless you do it for all. The debts have mounted and the parents are stuck. They are looking to sue Liverpool to cover their debts but it leaves the kid in a weird netherland. I am surprised that the FA has not stepped in to make an exception to fix it for the boy, but they are stuck whilst the court case is unresolved, as are the Premier League who are awaiting the presentation of one particular item of evidence. I am sure in the end it will all be OK for the kid, but it will need the bending of a rule or two.}

2.) 08 Aug 2017 19:37:20
Thanks for the reply Ed, it's a very sensitive subject to which should never have happened to begin with, such a shame that Red Tape has to be taken into account by the Authorities and that lad is as you mentioned left in limbo.

I really hope this stops as there's a huge amount of young talent out there.

Interesting, thanks for sharing.

Do you reckon Klopp has been playing games? Basically saying to the media that he's not going in order to force FSG to back him by issuing that statement?
