LFC Football whispers of the day:

Mignolet - Barcelona looking for no. 2 to Ter Stegen with Cillessen looking to move.

Karius - On Bayer Leverkusen shortlist to replace Bernd Leno

Origi - Besiktas, Valencia and Watford interested

Ojo - Middlesbrough interested

Ings - Palace and watford interested.

Porthos

1.) 01 Aug 2018 08:56:46
Everyone is interested but no one is buying.

2.) 01 Aug 2018 09:26:32
To be fair, The Red One, the top 3 'outs' are wanted (mainly) by teams who's transfer window is open until 31 August (or thereabouts) .

Most squads have only just got back together again, so I'd imagine a lot of managers what to review what they have before going into the transfer market.

I'd expect the next week to be rather busy!

3.) 01 Aug 2018 09:51:39
I hope you’re right Zeddicus, there’s a lot of dead wood dare I say Lallana as one (Go in hit me with the thumbs down people) 😉.

4.) 01 Aug 2018 09:57:43
I think you'll get the thumbs down for "dead wood" more so than for throwing Lallana into the mix!

We should have a bit of respect here, boys.

5.) 01 Aug 2018 11:04:57
I gave him the thumbs down for the Lallana comment personally.

6.) 01 Aug 2018 17:43:53
Same. I don’t see what people’s problem with Lallana is.

{Ed025's Note - he is slow, injury prone and goes missing in games for me westwood, a bit lightweight as well but besides that a very good player.. :)

7.) 01 Aug 2018 19:53:41
Surprised your bitters haven't put a bid in for him then ed025.

{Ed025's Note - we have enough prima-donnas marshy the last thing we need is another one mate, he should go on the scrap heap with the likes of ings, mignolet, karius, origi, ojo, grujic, clyne and moreno, sell the lot or swap them for a twix..

8.) 01 Aug 2018 20:04:56
I don't see a problem with using "dead wood". If you are reshaping or renovating a tree, the first thing you do is remove the three Ds. The wood which is dead, diseased or dying. That is how to strengthen the tree long term. It's not disrespectful, it's a metaphor. let's not paint it as anything more than that. This is how we all destroy abstract thinking, end up wearing grey, not saying anything other than what is written in the government approved manual and lose the will to live.

9.) 01 Aug 2018 23:12:17
Players are not “dead wood” though are they? They’re not dead, they still have a function. Dead wood doesn’t.
They are still useful to the squad, they can still play football.

“Fringe players” is more respectful.

Lallana is a very talented footballer 🤝.

{Ed0333's Note - No doubt Lalana has talent as a footballer but I agree with Ed’s 025 he’s on the outside looking in with the team where assembling and we should get rid while he is of value.

10.) 01 Aug 2018 23:20:51
Lallana is not dead wood. people have short memories of how good he was before his injury. out of sight out of mind. he's going to have a part to play this season and all you lot who think he's crap will eat your words.

{Ed0333's Note - I disagree I think he’s gonna fade away into obscurity

11.) 02 Aug 2018 00:52:12
Or you could just find a new metaphor and not make yourself out to be an ass when talking about OUR players.

12.) 01 Aug 2018 22:46:37
Those 9 you mention ed025 I reckon would still spank your lot!

{Ed025's Note - nah marshy, dont get me wrong we are not great but we are talking perennial underachievers here mate, of course you cant have all worldies in your squad but most of that lot need a new start...at accrington or somewhere..

13.) 02 Aug 2018 19:34:46
Or you could not just be an ass about metaphors you don't understand. It wasnt my metaphor anyway. It's all about what's useful to the tree, you can use the dead, diseased and dying branches if you like to hang off them or grow fruit, but they're likely to break under the pressure or not grow any fruit. It's a metaphor. Stop just getting offended on other peoples behalf about stuff none of you do gooder, keyboard warrior, personality vacuum numpties actually understand.

14.) 03 Aug 2018 07:16:35
Its all well and good saying get rid of these players, but what if our first teamers get injured? Let’s take Lallana and Moreno as examples. If we sell them and say Keita and Robertson get injured, what then? Will Milner return to LB or do people prefer Wiji coming in to Lallana? Neither players are world beaters by any stretch, but we need to remember that Lallana was one of the first names in the team sheet the year before last and was arguably England’s most important player at that time also. Also easy to forget that Moreno had vastly improved last year before he got injured and Robbo took his spot. So shall we get rid of these players who can come in and do a job when we have no-one to replace them with? Doesn’t make sense to me. We will want better than them in time certainly, but we should sell them when we have better players for our first 11 to replace the current first teamers (Robbo and Keita) who then drop to the bench in the place of the current squad cover players (Moreno and Lallana) . That’s how you build and improve. Besides all this said I can see Lallana especially having a bigger role than some may think this year, especially with Fekir unlikely and the Ox out. I look foward to seeing him back at his best and hope he proves the doubters wrong.

Ed002,
Does finishing second, third or fourth in premier league make a huge difference financially?

Porthos

{Ed002's Note - The Premier League prize money is made up of one fixed and two variable amounts, a fixed equal share of the overall pot which is fixed, merit based on position that drops about £2M per placing) and a fee based on matches the club featured in. These are rough figures as they are expected to be split up:

1. Fixed: £84.4; Merit £38.5
2. Fixed: £84.4; Merit £36.5
3. Fixed: £84.4; Merit £34.5
4. Fixed: £84.4; Merit £32.5
5. Fixed: £84.4; Merit £30.5

Match Fees are likely to be in the region of:

Manchester City - £34.5
Manchester United - £38.0
Liverpool - £31.0
Spurs - £31.0
Chelsea - £34.5

So Liverpool coming second would see prize money of something like £151M and with overseas television money (divided equally between all clubs) making an estimated £200M total. This will drop about £2M per place.}

1.) 21 Apr 2018 11:20:48
Cheers Ed002, your knowledge about anything football-related is unbelievably extensive.

So I guess there's a difference of about only £4M if we finish 2nd or 4th. That's not too bad, I thought the figure would be much higher.

That being said, finishing higher than 4th would be an improvement on last season (we're also on track to finishing with a higher points total) . Coupled with a semi-final appearance (at least) in the Champions League, it's a good time to be a Red!

{Ed002's Note - You are right, it is going well at the moment.}

2.) 21 Apr 2018 11:30:25
Not sure if this is right but I read CL TV money for BPL teams is split.

40% 1st

30% 2nd

20% 3rd

10% 4th

Hence Chelsea are likely to earn at least as much as us in total for the CL this season, could be bs mind you.

{Ed002's Note - It is nonsense. Try the search engine.}

3.) 21 Apr 2018 11:38:40
Ed002, you are a font of knowledge, sir.

{Ed002's Note - You are welcome.}

4.) 21 Apr 2018 12:28:39
Ed002 you are unreal and detrimental to this site. Don't wanna get too ass kissy but your insight is a breath of fresh air and provides a whole new aspect to finances in football, at least for me anyway. Thank you for what you do.

{Ed002's Note - So glad I can be detrimental. Thanks.}

5.) 21 Apr 2018 12:37:20
Thanks ed2 I didn’t realize there was only around £2M per place difference (haha 'only')

6.) 21 Apr 2018 13:17:38
DETRIMENTAL!?!? Ed002 I don’t think he meant bad by it but man that was an interesting compliment. I can’t stop laughing. Hope all is well for you and the Eds. Love this site.

{Ed002's Note - I know, don't worry.}

7.) 21 Apr 2018 15:20:03
Ed02 just wanted to know how is match fee derived. how come man utd has highest fee despite the fact that man city has played best football all season. thanks in advance.

{Ed002's Note - Television appearances. It is not based on the quality of performance but the number of games shown live. It is called a "facilities" fee. Last season LFC were fourth but had the higest facilities fee because they had one more game shown live than the Manchester clubs and Chelsea.}

8.) 21 Apr 2018 15:51:21
I assume he meant instrumental Ed002! 😂.

{Ed002's Note - It turned out he meant "ornamental".}

9.) 21 Apr 2018 16:06:42
I think temperamental is a more accurate description.

{Ed002's Note - Don't be judgmental.}

10.) 21 Apr 2018 17:05:37
I don’t mean to be sentimental but Ed’s contribution to this site is really quite monumental.

11.) 21 Apr 2018 17:22:08
Everyone's going mental.

{Ed001's Note - it is a fundamental quality.}

15 Apr 2018 09:42:57
Ed001, if you may tell us who are most underrated and overrated players in world football?
Thanks.

Porthos

{Ed001's Note - that is really difficult to say as it depends on how you judge their ratings.}

1.) 15 Apr 2018 10:21:00
surely kane can claim both those awards!

2.) 15 Apr 2018 10:25:52
Di Maria is robbing a living.

3.) 15 Apr 2018 10:32:49
I will have a go
over rated is Neymar underrated is Firminho.

{Ed001's Note - but by what mark are you going by? Is it ratings on FIFA? How they are seen by the media? Only every set of fans seem to have their own over and under rated players.}

4.) 15 Apr 2018 10:45:51
me personally Im going by what they bring to their club teams
neymar bring ego selfishness laziness (injury on his sister bday every season) whilst imo Firminno brings the complete opposite, barring his drink driving episode he has done himself very proud
There is an argument to say Firminho is the heart beat of this Liverpool side
Can anyone make that argument for Neymar at PSG?

5.) 15 Apr 2018 11:06:44
If I ignore LFC to try and avoid a bias (as Ed1 mentions) and focusing purely on the Prem, mine would be:

Underrated: Son - I would love to see him in a Red shirt. Whilst neutral fans clearly appreciate his ability, I think other teams in his squad means that he doesn't always get recognised as a massive threat by fans.

Overrated: Lukaku - No doubt he is a good finisher and very difficult to handle on his day. But is a passenger too often and far too lazy a player for me to be rated as highly as people say he is.

Obviously a very subjective discussion though, eh!

6.) 15 Apr 2018 12:00:00
Over rated, Pogba, he’s good but he’s not a world class player. Under rated, Robertson, how many times do you see him getting done by an opposing winger?

7.) 15 Apr 2018 12:00:00
Over rated, Pogba, he’s good but he’s not a world class player. Under rated, Robertson, how many times do you see him getting done by an opposing winger?

8.) 15 Apr 2018 12:38:52
Over rated - Pogba/ courtouis/ bale/ Ali/ hazard/
Under rated - bobby/ giroud/ Valencia/ Zaha.

9.) 15 Apr 2018 13:19:42
Pogba by a mile in my opinion is the most overrated footballer I've ever seen. Neymar is another. Just walk by him and he's diving. Coutinho would be a third for me.

Underrated Firmino.

02 Apr 2018 14:35:38
With all the anticipation regards to CL QF against Manchester City.
If you may tell us Ed 001 (As you know more of tactics) you expect us to tackle both the legs, with what lineups and with Everton in the midst?

Porthos

{Ed001's Note - there is no way of knowing as Klopp will be guided by sports scientists with regard to who is fit and fresh. I do expect Can and Lovren to play midweek, if both are fit enough.}

1.) 02 Apr 2018 15:26:44
Few big decisions to make especially in midfield Can in for Hendo as he seems to be struggling with fitness and do we with go with Ox. Silva didn’t start the league game in Jan did he? He is such a good player makes them tick and got a bad feeling Sterling is due a good performance at Anfield . and Sane is on fire
God I’ve morphed into Negativewalter .

2.) 02 Apr 2018 15:42:19
Squizza welcome to my world. Its fun warm and joyous.

3.) 02 Apr 2018 15:59:41
Well am absolutely crapping myself about Tuesday. I really like Trent he’s a good kid but has lots to learn. Am just worried about him getting singled out in the game. It will only take a few mistakes and we will be out the cup. He’s getting no help from who ever plays next to him. He must know silver and sane are going to be gunning for him the hole game. Am just praying klopp has come up with a game plan to counter this.

4.) 02 Apr 2018 16:16:51
I'm more worried about City on wed night Longthing. Tue night is a double bill of Emerdale Farm so no need to crap yourself over that mate.

5.) 02 Apr 2018 16:59:10
Screw it. We haven't been in a quarter final of the champions league in ages. I obviously desperately want to win but I'm going to enjoy the whole thing regardless.

6.) 02 Apr 2018 17:00:45
Trent and liverpool have to make sane defend, taa did it to Zaha in the 2nd half at Palace and all of a sudden palaces biggest threat is nullified.

{Ed025's Note - the thing is SS that city have multiple threats mate not just one..

7.) 02 Apr 2018 17:07:03
TAA needs to stay alert all game and needs support from his team mates rather than just left to get on with it, he’s going to be targeted more than anyone else against City.

8.) 02 Apr 2018 17:21:07
I was taking about the second leg on a Tuesday 😉😉😉
Only joking. I think we are all so desperate for Liverpool to go through to the next round.

9.) 02 Apr 2018 19:14:00
I think both Liverpool and City will win their home games, and it could go to goal difference, it really could be that close .

10.) 02 Apr 2018 19:38:29
Think I'd drop taa he had a mare against United an didn't look too good against palace. He's going g to be a very good player but these are important games an in my opinion a step to far for the lad.
If Clyne is fully fit I'd play him.

11.) 02 Apr 2018 19:55:05
Clyne are you kidding me! So he hasn’t played all year and you want him to play our biggest for about 10 years or so. 🙈🙈🙈.

12.) 02 Apr 2018 19:55:23
Truthhurts, so you wanna play a guy who has not kicked a ball for 9 months vs a true juggernaut in City in a CL QF instead of a guy who is actually fit, in rhythm and has been playing for the past few games? Thank heavens, you are not LFC manager. You may wanna jump on TAA for his mistakes all you want BUT that is a very myopic way of thinking. If you wanna be truly objective, you prolly wanna look at the calamity of errors that TAA's more senior mates made before the ball even got to him. See Ed01's game review for those facts. Defending is done as a team and that is how it should be analysed, IMO.

TAA did make his mistakes and is a worry BUT Gomez is out and Clyne is not ready to face a speed demon like Sane any more than TAA is right now. In fact, Clyne would not last 30 mins against him, fitness wise so I doubt Klopp will play him. What has to be done is to either play a back 3 (which is suicide as our back 3 will be going one on one vs their front 3) or we put a system in place to protect TAA and not leave him isolated, just like Milner does with Robbo on the left. That would be my way to go.

13.) 02 Apr 2018 19:05:23
I know Ed, it is going to be a big ask to get to the semi's. If you wanna win it then you have to best the best, I'm looking forward to it and hope we have a lead to defend in the 2nd leg.

14.) 03 Apr 2018 00:35:07
Also wouldn't be great for his confidence - here mate your dropped despite playing all season, for a player who hasn't player all season and wasn't great then anyway a!

15.) 03 Apr 2018 06:12:28
So where is all this Clyne love-in coming from?
Last time I remember the guy playing, he still couldn't defend or cross a ball. Stick with TAA coz I think the kid is going to play a blinder against Sane.

16.) 03 Apr 2018 10:01:07
Well that went down well. Just my opinion folks.

17.) 03 Apr 2018 14:13:34
I don't know myself, IB. I guess it is a simple case of absence makes the heart grow fonder or something like that.

18.) 03 Apr 2018 14:14:19
TH, your opinion is well-respected. I just have a different one which is backed by facts. That's all.

19.) 03 Apr 2018 15:33:32
BR I sincerely hope yr right mate but I've looked at TAA past couple games an his positioning still needs major work on I just hope he doesn't get caught out again.

29 Dec 2017 18:19:42
Liverpool closing in on Leon Goretzka!

Porthos

1.) 29 Dec 2017 18:50:53
Hope so.

2.) 29 Dec 2017 19:03:40
The term "closing in", What does it actually mean lol. Porthos im not doibting whst your saying mate but why do you say that?

3.) 29 Dec 2017 19:15:25
Quite a few people/ papers reporting this. Another for the summer if it did happen, would be a great deal if we did get him though!

4.) 29 Dec 2017 19:26:51
*Doubting what.

5.) 29 Dec 2017 19:47:09
Would be a great signing. Him and Keita could be our midfield for years with both very young at 23.

6.) 29 Dec 2017 19:47:57
Now a days "closing" seems to mean some people on twitter said it!

7.) 29 Dec 2017 20:18:50
I’m salivating at the thought of the fab 4 wreaking havoc with keita and goretzka behind them in the engine room. A quality keeper and I’ll just blow my beans.

8.) 29 Dec 2017 20:26:09
Cheers Jordz. Thinking of starting a Twittet account tbh🤔.

9.) 29 Dec 2017 20:41:09
Still nothing in the german media which is odd when liverpool is either closing in or agreed something in advance. So don't get too excited.

10.) 29 Dec 2017 21:30:56
People see things like 'reported in BILD' and assume as its a German paper it's true - it's just another tabloid trying to get attention.

{Ed002's Note - Did anyone actually bother reading the BILD item?}

11.) 29 Dec 2017 21:45:42
Bild is like the Metro by all accounts, the mother of all tabloids!
Having said that, the Telegraph reported City were closing in on a £60m deal for VVD.6 hours later, we’d agreed a fee with Southampton!

12.) 29 Dec 2017 22:22:36
I take it your not a reader of Build Ed002🤔.

{Ed002's Note - I rang one of my wives and she read it to me.}

13.) 29 Dec 2017 23:19:48
Argh I see. You have a German speaking wife lol.

{Ed002's Note - She is a polyglot.}

14.) 29 Dec 2017 23:34:35
PIncer movement?

13 Nov 2016 21:14:36
What is the role of DOF? and how can we expect Mr. Edwards assist Jurgen Klopp?

Ed002,

I used the search function but didn't find anything relevant.

Your insight would be appreciated.

{Ed002's Note - Typically they take responsibility for all of the teams in a pyramid structure, look after the scouting network and may be involved in negotiating the buying and selling of players.}

If these are the costs involved for a so called free transfer, then the amount Can must have cost to Juventus is beyond my imagination.

Let alone be for signing a player from certain club.

Porthos

{Ed002's Note - They don't have to pay all of these costs but ceratinly signing on fee, agent fee, legal fees relocation costs - but his wages are far lower than what is being asked by MM.}

Ed001, if my memory serves me correctly, didn't Kolo Toure once blamed grass for scoring ludicrous own goal?

These are my observations from West Ham-Chelsea game:
1. They kick off in very attacking fashion (very unusual as pointed out by Jamie on Monday Night Football), and they most of the time aerial pass on the left hand side (where there is presence of Hazard and Alonso) what I believe there target is to attack in first moments where opposition are caught unaware.

2. The focal point of there play is through Jorginho, who reminds me of Xabi Alonso. Helps the defence when under opposition attack and starts play when under possession.

3. Hazard is given free role in this Sarri's system, striker Giroud acts as target man and midfielder Kante's role in this system has changed to B2B instead of destroyer in previous managers system.

4. Alonso's main emphasis is on attack more, so most of their attack are from left side, while Aspi turns defence 2 into 3 while under possession.

How I believe that we should play against Chelsea:
1. I believe Sarri will make their players to play counter attack, rather than possession based attack against us. Which means Alonso won't be given licence to bomb forward.

2. Our strength is to recover ball asap and intelligent press, which will be fruitful against them.

3. Long balls will be a threat with Giroud on field and his ability to pass the ball to players alongside him (Pedro, Willian, Hazards, etc. ) which needs to be look out for.

4. When the backline and jorginho will be pressed they will make mistakes, but we should also be careful not to commit too many personnels forward as they are good on counter and have great individual talents.

5. Finally, we should convert the chances that we create.

SuperMane to score first.
