Question for eds (if you have the time) and reds.

This season we were a third tier team in the champions league (I think) which seems weird seeing as we made the final.

When will it be decided what tier Liverpool will be in next season? Will winning or not winning the league make a difference, and what other factors are considered?

Robbiesline

{Ed002's Note - Winning league or CL will be pot 1 - else pot 2 or 3 depending on ranking and who else qualifies.}

1.) 05 Feb 2019 07:30:57
The pot you go in is based on European performance over the last 5 years I believe? But if you win the league or champions league you automatically go in pot 1. We were on the cusp of pot 2/ 3 this year so at a guess I think if we beat Bayern that will probably bump us up into pot 2 but a lot has to do with who qualifies.

No word of a lie, I saw timo werner near wlva rd. In a grey mazzarati. God knows why. Reckon he will be a liverpool player next year.

Robbiesline

1.) 02 Feb 2019 20:40:09
Or Everton?

2.) 02 Feb 2019 20:43:47
Think he was supposed to go to Blackpool.

3.) 03 Feb 2019 10:29:48
Timo was in a grey Walter Mazzarri? Got nothing against it, but I didn’t know Walter had gone grey already. But if he is signing, then it’s good to know he’s enjoying the sights and attractions of Liverpool already. 👍.

4.) 03 Feb 2019 18:50:01
‘God knows why’ 😂😂.

Hi ed02 (or anyone, eds or reds)

Do we still have interest in the young full back from Bristol City?

Robbiesline

{Ed002's Note - There is nothing new.}

1.) 10 Jan 2019 10:13:36
i very much doubt they would sell him mid season! potentially one for the summer but i imagine most big clubs would be looking at him, having a very good season!

2.) 10 Jan 2019 10:18:17
Lloyd Kelly could be a very smart purchase, he’s a big, quick, mobile, a good defender and a good footballer (he dominates players who are a lot older than him) . He can also cover left back comfortably as well as centre back. To my mind he looks like he has the ability to step up, the same way Rob Jones did.

3.) 10 Jan 2019 10:41:52
Id take another rob jones alright!

Someone asked a question the other day about possible front 3s. I think I went for A, torres suarez and fowler. It got me thinking about torres, so I watched his 81 Liverpool goals. I absolutely loved torres at Liverpool and I think we'd have won the league if he had stayed fit. Shame (for us) that he went to that world Cup when he wasn't fully recovered but can't slate him for winning a world Cup.

But what a finisher the lad was. I remember his debut, Terry was screaming in his face and he stood up to him, then of course, scored the winner. I think suarez was more tenacious and fowler probably the more natural player, but torres was some finisher. Could score from anywhere and made it look easy. I think a torres in his prime would walk into any team in the world. Absolute class act.

Robbiesline

1.) 08 Feb 2020 23:09:20
Fowler was the best finisher. Natural born goalscorer.

2.) 09 Feb 2020 00:16:17
Fowler had damn near everything in his locker. Aside from his ability to stick in the net, his movement, passing and link up play were outstanding when he was at his peak. Easily could've been a modern false 9 as well as the lethal outright striker he was. It's absolutely criminal that Houllier didn't get Owen to play off him properly.

Also youtube algorithms had me watching highlights from a few games from around 1998 - 1999 lately and I forgot what a beast Patrik Berger was on his day. Could just stroll through opposition players.

3.) 09 Feb 2020 09:14:53
Was a big fan of Berger back then. I was about 10 when he signed and he instantly became one of my favourite players.

4.) 09 Feb 2020 15:27:37
I loved berger too. Always liked smicer too but he didn't get as many games as he could have. I'm not taking away from fowlers footballing genius, I'm just saying what a finisher torres was, outstanding. Scored from 25 yards as easy as most score fromm 12 1/ 2 yards.
I don't think I've been as heart broken about a player leaving Liverpool. Was gutted when alonso left and Micheal Owen and Robbie fowler. I didn't know torres had effed his knee up and 50mil then was crazy money.

5.) 09 Feb 2020 19:00:46
Liverpool have been blessed with phenomenal goalscorers in my lifetime. Starting with Rush, Aldridge, Fowler, Owen, Torres, Suarez, Salah.

6.) 09 Feb 2020 19:44:51
As reds fans we've been on a roller coaster this last 30 years. Good Times and bad, good managers and bad. But we've always had top notch strikers. You could probably add coutinio to that list. Played as a forward for most of his anfield career. Heskey wasn't bad either, cisse, Luis garcia.

08 Feb 2020 14:00:44
Watched Julie Flaherty on football focus. Really moving interview. Brave girl and tough player. Took some courage I imagine.

I'm all for the winter break. I really am. But I'm already missing the footy. 2 weeks with out it is going to be weird.

Robbiesline

1.) 06 Feb 2020 13:24:38
Get a job lad 🥴😂.

2.) 06 Feb 2020 14:01:35
Yeah it's daft mate.

3.) 06 Feb 2020 14:48:06
I can't be the only one? The first time we've had a break like this. It's got to feel odd to others? Right?

4.) 06 Feb 2020 15:28:08
2 weeks between Liverpool games is nothing unusual, it’s just like an international break and they happen multiple times per year.

5.) 06 Feb 2020 15:49:36
I remember my mate swearing that around February, the players were at their peak performance wise and every match was a potential cracker. Around this time every year, I always watch as many matches as I can. Not going to say he’s totally wrong or else it’s the power of suggestion. Either way, I’m worried we’ll be sluggish next match.

6.) 06 Feb 2020 16:28:54
We just played 2 days ago, Robbie.

7.) 06 Feb 2020 17:06:11
I know, I know. But this is the best season I've watched my team play. I want to see the boys play every 4 days! At least with the international breaks there is England games, Scotland games, Ireland. And although the passion is nowhere near the same, it's still someone to cheer for.

Absence makes the heart grow fonder, the next game is going to be buzzing. It's just going to take a bit of getting used to is all. But suits us fine. We have the best team and it'll be excellent to have them refreshed.

8.) 06 Feb 2020 18:37:49
OP, so what do you do during the two week break for int'l games cos it is virtually the same thing with the winter break we have now as in, no club football?

9.) 06 Feb 2020 19:16:22
There are still premier league games this weekend.

10.) 06 Feb 2020 19:16:45
Erm, watch International games Red meister. I don't feel anywhere near the same passion for England or Scotland as I do for Liverpool (is that wrong) but I still want to see them win. I'd be absolutely made up if England won a major tournament. With hendo and sterling, gomez and kane, trent, maybe they will.

And yes we have these international breaks but not in February. At least in the off season we have transfer rumours and international footy to look forward to.

I can't stop humming - we know you're going to believe us - we're going to win the league. Imagine we played 3 games on the next 2 weeks, we'd be 3 games from the title. Touching distance. Like I said I'm glad we're having the break. Just going to miss watching the best team in the world every weekend.

11.) 06 Feb 2020 20:20:39
Robbie, I actually watch international football too so we agree on that. Personally, I'm not arsed about such breaks cos I believe in waiting during this period cos it will only get me more fired up to watch them play next week. Meanwhile, I will enjoy watching other league games in other European leagues this week which I also enjoy.

12.) 07 Feb 2020 09:05:49
Good tip RM, I should watch more of the European leagues. Often people are talking about players from German league or French league and I have to admit, I often have little to contribute as I know nothing of the player.
What's the best league to watch, for the spectacle? La liga?

Anyone else think Aoc's recent performances have been too notch. He's such a threat. Everyone thinks of salah and firmino, mane when thinking of Liverpool danger men but oxlade Chamberlain nearly always gets a goal or an assist. He's the type of player who gets you goals against stubborn defenses, from outside the box. And counter attacking goals coz his pace and finishing are top notch. He's been so unlucky with injury. He was one of the first names on the team sheet before he was injured at roma. I've always liked him and was really pleased when we signed him. Mane is a big miss but the ox is more than decent there.

Robbiesline

1.) 02 Feb 2020 04:15:59
He’s been excellent. He tends to lose possession more than Gini or Hendo (his first touch and passing can be a little loose), but he adds a drive and goal scoring threat from midfield that we need.

2.) 02 Feb 2020 07:13:56
He definitely has a sweet right foot.

3.) 02 Feb 2020 10:15:59
An OX of a player.

29 Jan 2020 03:06:01
Listen, let's not make too much of a big deal out of it. We have to stick by our team and manager. We are in such a good place, let's trust the youngsters. They've proved they can give a good account of themselves. We are always saying our youngster should get more game time. Now they have the chance we are saying its wrong. And as wirral wonder has said, they need THEIR coach there.

No disrespect intended but it is only shrewsbury at home. We'd be playing a second team no matter what.

Let's not rock the boat. Other will try so let's stick together and back our manager and our young starlets. I for one am looking forward to seeing elliot, Jones and Williams again. Decent players who should see off shrewsbury.

Robbiesline

1.) 29 Jan 2020 06:30:39
Are Elliot, Jones and Williams going to play? They are part of the first team lately. Klopp said noone from the first team squad will be involved?

2.) 29 Jan 2020 07:36:22
yes they will play they aren't senior players. The problems will be cb's and gk we don't have kids good enough to play those positions. Elsewhere on the pitch we will be just fine. Although we don't have a cf.

3.) 29 Jan 2020 08:34:54
Might be informative to look at the squad selected against Aston Villa 👍.

4.) 29 Jan 2020 09:43:17
I'm all for giving the youngsters more game time, but they need some experience alongside them. We have not had an FA Cup run for years, so playing a second team of youngsters and senior players who have not played in months was the right thing to do and the same team should play the replay.
Matip, Lovren, Fabinho, Minamino and keita need matches as they've been out for ages. I appreciate we don't know what happens behind the scenes but when a club has a squad of 25 players they should use it.

We should'nt be fooled by the Everton game and think a whole team of kids will beat Shrewsbury, they may well do but Shrewsbury with a team full of experienced pros could turn Liverpool over.

5.) 29 Jan 2020 09:58:06
My guess at the line up, time for some of the boys to become men and those with a * I feel can deliver from what I have seen

GK - Caoimhin Kelleher*
RB - Neco Williams *
CB - Ki-Jana Hoever *
CB - Sepp van den Berg*
LB - Yasser Larouci *
MF - Curtis Jones*
MF - Pedro Chirivella*
MF - Luis Longstaff
FW - Harvey Elliot*
FW - Joe Hardy
FW - Jack Bearne

I would love it for the kids to get a win, my prediction is 3-2 let them play football and express and enjoy themselves. Hopefully the Anfield crowd can bring the noise!

6.) 29 Jan 2020 13:46:16
KingCarlos I agree with the starred players bar VDB. The guy is not good enough or at least he some way from first team football.

7.) 29 Jan 2020 14:32:46
That team would concede too many. VDB is someway off atm, and the keeper.

8.) 29 Jan 2020 18:27:29
Vdb is a decent cb. He is clearly lacking confidence but a good performance is just what he needs.

Salah isn't getting a Hollywood move based on last night's performance. He's brilliant, don't get me wrong, but Madrid, Barcelona or juve won't take him imo.

Dembeles unvieling said it all i think. The kid couldn't even do one keep up when they announced him. He looked like the kid in the playground who couldn't kick a ball. i've rarely seen a pro footballer (even semi pro) who couldn't dazzle me with keep ups and tricks. I don't doubt dembele could. But he has so much pressure on him and was sold too soon. A kid thrown into the snakepit that is the Barcelona dressing room.

They, and he, would've been better off had they not signed him. There is a message there if you have the wit to see it.

I believe him when he says that. He was a red for years. We developed him into one of the best players in the world. It has been said that he regrets leaving Liverpool and i believe that too.

It won't be the only motivation behind him snubbing utd, much more likely is the state that utd are in right now. But i believe that liverpool are part of the reason.

Dodgy theory: coutinio, through his agent, generates interest in a utd move. Snubs them at the last minute because he still has love for liverpool. Paving the way for pipco's return.

{Ed025's Note - he is better suited to accrington or fleetwood imo, but if the guy is happy to sit on the bench for the next few years then all power to him i say..

Arsenal bang on about it coz they've never won the European cup. We've won it 6 times. Another would be great but this team has already delivered that goal.

I just want the success to continue. I really don't care if we lose a match or two, as long as we win the league. It isn't done yet. Anything else is just confetti.

I don't think losing a match is going to throw us off course. We have lost games in the ucl and still continued winning in the league. We have a relentless attitude, that will probably see us break the record for league points total.

And have you noticed, vegans are always telling people they're vegan.

I can understand it in principle but as ed025 says, people enjoy buying useless stuff that they're convinced they can't live without. Stuff that is made in China, shipped halfway round the world in big tankers. Driven over continents and countries in big trucks.

I'm sure there are vegans who are more vigilant when it comes to their carbon footprint. And some of that stuff is pretty nice.

Robbiesline

{Ed025's Note - im all for carbon footprints robbie, i just dont like peoples individual life choices rammed down my throat mate, we have incisors for a reason...to eat meat, and i have never read anything in the bible about vegan fish at the last supper.. :)

It works. We used to do it when I played Sunday league. If you have a proper cf (like firmino, looks like a boxer up close) anything can happen.
We are comfortable in defence, our shape is solid and extremely hard to break through. And like people have said, our quick and skillful wingers feed off of 2nd balls. And our athletic midfield can win the ball back and fight for 2nd balls.
And it's mot just hoofed. It's usually vvd or hendo and they aim for either mane or salah.

I think the Burnley striker who played yesterday could offer something. He held the ball up well and ran their defence ragged. It was only two performances, but he looks decent. He's not going to break into our team but if we had a to be of injuries I reckon he could score for us.
