Looks like a vacancy for Gerrard has opened up at Kirkby in September!

Not sure why we have to use "time on the treatment table" as excuse to rest the players, who have clearly had most game time. The next four games are the obvious ones to use our squad, to freshen up players for the run in. Clyne is clearly not in our future plans, Klopp must see Fabinho, Milner and Hoever as enough cover across the back.

Sam5

1.) 15 Jan 2019 16:21:36
Certainly doesn't see Hoever as enough cover he's too young and weak. Camacho could be the last resort in that position.

2.) 15 Jan 2019 18:12:17
Seosamh? Did you watch him in the Wolves game? There's plenty of words I could use to describe him. "Weak" is not one of them.

Also, against any winger with anything about them, I'd sooner have Hoever there than Camacho. Camacho played there for his ability going forward. He's a winger, not a defender.

3.) 15 Jan 2019 19:40:30
EpicPotato, I watched him vs Wolves and YES, Hoever is weak now cos he will be going against players that are bigger, stronger and fitter than he is as a 16 yr old. Don't let one perf. (where the bar was pretty low for him) fool you and don't let your enthusiasm get the best of you. I mean, you ask if we saw him vs Wolves? Did you see what Jimenez did to him?

Camacho has played 2 years with the U23's and played with the first team at RB dring preseason. That may not be a high bar BUT it sure is a lot more experience than Hoever has. Let the kid develop and we will see what happens.

If we are not looking to sell Moreno, Milner, Klavan and Sturridge. Will they be offered new contracts? Surely we can't afford to keep losing players out of contract.

Sam5

1.) 24 Jul 2018 22:49:57
You can only sell what other people want, signing them to new contracts would only increase the financial strain.

Letting their contracts run out at least gets them off the wage bill.

2.) 24 Jul 2018 22:57:25
Didn’t the Ed’s say Sturridge would be sold if someone would pay his wages? Why would we keep them longer, pay another signing fee, when the could just be here for another 3-4 years picking up wages and hardly playing.

3.) 25 Jul 2018 05:26:14
The money we would get for the mentioned players would be minimal as it is, so keep them for another year as the cost of giving them new contracts or signing replacements would be much higher. Let Klavan and Co walk away for free next season coz we have academy players like Lewis, Woodburn, Wilson who will take their place next season anyways.

4.) 25 Jul 2018 10:52:50
Put it this way, using studge as an example, he gets just under 3.5mil a year apparently

So, would you rather
A) let him cost just shy of 3.5mil in wages if we fail to sell him noe, then releasing him on a free.

B) offer a new contract, extend for another year, pay several mil in agent fees, signing on fee, and all the other fees ed2 has taught us about.
And if we still can’t sell him over the 2 years, for even 10mil then he will cost another nearly 3.5mil in wages and still potentially leave for free

Although I have no idea how much the club wants for him so just said 10mil because I can’t see anybody paying anymore unless he stays fit for a long period of time.

With Fabinho not being allocated a squad number as of yet, would that indicate he is waiting for the number 2 shirt to become available?

Sam5

1.) 02 Jul 2018 23:26:37
2+2=7.

2.) 02 Jul 2018 23:45:24
Maybe he doesn't want any number?

3.) 03 Jul 2018 02:10:42
Him not being assigned a number is definitely intriguing. There will be a reason for it. Someone is leaving whose number he wants. Clyne of course maybe lallana? I wonder.

4.) 03 Jul 2018 07:40:01
Can a player just not be reassigned a number rather than be sold? I’m sure I’ve seen that happen before at other clubs?

{Ed001's Note - yes they can and often do change their number between seasons. I know of one lad who actually paid for new shirts for all the people who had bought a new one with his name and number on the back just before he changed it.}

5.) 03 Jul 2018 08:13:11
Didn't sakho do exactly that Ed when he changed from 17 to 3 when we bought Klavan. I seem to recall something about him offering to buy fans new shirts to replace the sakho 17 ones.

{Ed001's Note - he may well have done. It has happened more than once.}

6.) 03 Jul 2018 08:34:57
Lord Bendtner did when he changed his number to 52 at Arsenal.

{Ed001's Note - only because no one had bought his...}

7.) 03 Jul 2018 03:07:38
Shouldn’t it be easy enough to find out who the club considers ‘for sale’ eds? Would they wait for enquiries from interested clubs? Wouldn’t it be easier to put a list on the club website? ;)

8.) 03 Jul 2018 17:24:26
Or maybe Real Madrid are going to hijack this deal too?

09 Mar 2018 07:32:36
If reported correctly that Can is holding out for Real Madrid then my suspicion was right, although I suspected City. If he thinks he's better than us and will play in a team like Real, Barca, City then good luck in your next career step warning the bench. Would like to see him stay but we have better on the way.

Sam5

1.) 09 Mar 2018 08:02:38
Real Madrid? Haha, that's new. He will get as much game time there in the end as Solanke is getting here. I seriously hope he is not that deluded.

2.) 09 Mar 2018 08:03:45
He wouldn't make their benches. But looking at Juve he will make their first 11. He won't be good enough for our first 11 next season either. Keita is much better that Can in all aspects of the game.

3.) 09 Mar 2018 08:47:58
Ye what a idiot wanting to play for real madrid. Seripualy tho, this bashing of players who wanna play elsewhere is just petty.

4.) 09 Mar 2018 09:07:51
There is no bashing, just a realistic view of a player overrating himself beyond belief! I like Emre Can and want him to stay but if he or you think he has the quality and consistency to be a regular starter for Real Madrid then i suggest watching him a bit closer before you just put down other posters views because they are more accurate than yours. We have players who have the quality to play for the biggest teams in the world, i just think Emre is not one of them. Even if he signs a new deal and stays for life, he will have some serious improving to do before i change my opinion on him being of the highest caliber of player that is all!

5.) 09 Mar 2018 09:09:52
come on guys are we really going to hit out on a player who dons the Liverpool shirt for wanting to play for RM, its 1 thing to be angry about him leaving but its another to question the guys quality. Kroos Casemiro Matoe maybe Can might just suprise us all. Remember its Kloop who suggested his not that chuffed with Can and with how we been treating him of late it makes sense why he might want to leave.

6.) 09 Mar 2018 09:16:46
Real Madrid? Seems very difficult. Whom would he displace? Casemiro? Kroos? Kovacic? Maybe Ceballos, at best.

7.) 09 Mar 2018 09:25:18
Faithworks - be realistic. He might want to play for these teams so might you but if he is not at the required level he can't. There is not a hope in hell he will make a Real Madrid first 15 next season. He does not have the required technique. He is leaving Liverpool because Klopp won't guarantee him first team football.

It is called honesty.

{Ed001's Note - he has better technique than Casemiro and a much better work ethic and mobility than Kroos. I think people overestimate Madrid's midfield, it is not that good.}

8.) 09 Mar 2018 09:26:32
I'm trying to figure out what's going on from Can's perspective. I'm assuming he's already received a number of offers, the fact that he hasn't signed one surely means that he's waiting for better ones.

However, if he was as in demand as the rumours suggest he is why has a good enough offer not come in yet? Surely Juve or whoever would want his signature asap rather than risk another club getting him. That suggests the market doesn't rate him as highly as he rates himself and no one's too fussed whether they get him or not.

If any of that is true that would mean that Can's in no man's land. He wants to leave but nowhere he wants to go wants him. That leaves him two options, come back to us cap in hand and accept whatever offer we've made or take a step down to a mid tier club.

Of course I could just be massively over thinking this.

9.) 09 Mar 2018 09:39:35
They will buy in the summer. Can would get no where near Real Madrid's first 11 next season. I think you are slightly over estimating Can's technique, work ethic and positional play. He falls short in all those areas for me.

{Ed001's Note - maybe he does, but so do all of their current midfield. They are not struggling because of Zidane, though he is not good enough yet tactically to cover for their weaknesses, they are struggling because they lack quality other than in forward areas. Ronaldo can only do so much on his own to make them competitive.}

10.) 09 Mar 2018 09:48:01
Are people really watching madrid? they have a poor midfield? ask any madrid fan and he will tell you
Toni kroos- one dimensional can be easily kept quiet and is not an enforcer
Kovacic- best player but does not get his chances and when he does if often out of position on the left
modric- might end up in jail. getting old lost his legs
cabellos- good player can be a pivot linking attack to defence but not an maestro, not at madrid level
Casemiro- scores goals, good at tackling, wayward in possesion, always on a yellow.
llorente- casemiro type but cleverer, doesn't often need to tackle reads the game well but not at real madrid level
Marco asensio- great player but only when attacking, best player in attacking third, cannot influence games from a deeper role
Isco- good at everything but not best at anything. and just like asensio can't influence games from a deeper role.

none of the real madrid mids can win an aerial ball!

Emre can - walks into real madrid midfield. he is a presence, he can run bullishly past players, can defend and tackle, can win defensive headers. is more disciplined and score a worldly.

11.) 09 Mar 2018 09:50:58
I get that point. But think they will improve in the summer. Who has got the best midfield in Europe? Must be City or Bayern.

12.) 09 Mar 2018 09:55:36
You are judging a player based on klopp’s System! Real doesn’t play high press “run morning to evening” football!

Or if you think he can’t control a ball then that’s another argument. He is leaving coz Klopp doesn’t think he press enough like others on and off the ball. It has nothing to do with his technical abilities.

If you play Can in a 4 man midfiled narrow and compact then he is a brilliant footballer! We don’t play that way some teams does and he would fit in with those teams!

13.) 09 Mar 2018 10:04:39
Not saying he would or wudnt get into real Madrid’s team or not but I am a firm believer that the majority, and I stress the word majority, don’t go to clubs and expect to sit on the bench. Maybe for one season while u bed in but in general when players move to a club it’s because they fell they have the quality to cement a place for themselves. Look at Delph going to city, Solanke coming to us, Lorente going to Spurs, Drinkwater going to Chelsea. You have to understand the quality these players are at are out of this world! I used to play kick about with a semi pro and let me tell u he was so good it was difficult to image how much better a player could honestly get! I know that’s a different thing altogether but what I’m saying is these players have put their whole lives into playing football, from such a young age and dedicated hours upon hours of practice, it wouldn’t be right if they didn’t feel like they could displace anyone in a starting XI given a bit more work and a bit more development! That’s how they are brought up and they know how good they are!

On another note I think can is a fantastic player who is only going to get better and I don’t want to lose him. And looking at real Madrid’s midfield I have to agree with the ed and say it isn’t as good as people are making out, it’s also had injury problems and some players are getting older in t, not saying they are interested in can but it would make sense for them to be after a few players to bolster that squad!

14.) 09 Mar 2018 10:16:18
Whatever he decides to do i wish him good luck, will never forget the worldie vs Watford from last season. But i think he has a lot of improving to do and i hope he does it. The best game i've seen him play for us was vs. Man City this season and that is the only game since he has been here he hit that particular level in my humble opinion.

15.) 09 Mar 2018 10:26:28
Real Madrid would be a step down for him :)

16.) 09 Mar 2018 10:34:06
Wherever he goes I hope he chooses wisely to give him the best chance of game time and a chance to progress and fulfil his potential, he’s a nice fella and has been a good professional whilst here, good luck to him.

17.) 09 Mar 2018 10:42:49
Fair point Dar, sometime you have to step down a level to get regular playing time ;)

18.) 09 Mar 2018 11:16:52
Jak,

You are overlooking the fact that if you play a player’s strength then he would certainly boss! Can will look good if you pay to his strength. Dare I say Matic would look like a spearing under Klopp high press football.
A lot of the names you mentioned are bang average footballers why they are struggling.
Can does not lack in quality. It’s not like he is a Wanyama or Wellbeck! Except City and Liverpool he would play in most other teams!

19.) 09 Mar 2018 11:46:41
Baby driver I don’t know if u mentioned my name by mistake but your response has absolutely nothing to do with the point I was making? I’m going to assume u misread what I said or didn’t understand it.

20.) 09 Mar 2018 12:03:30
If Can is leaving once his contract expires then wherever he goes he does so with my support.
The lad may not be of the highest quality but he has been a dedicated professional at LFC and has also played whilst injured.

Good luck Emre YNWA 👍.

21.) 09 Mar 2018 13:36:21
He might not set the world alight but there is a reason he played in the teams he has so far, for the mere fact that we still wish to keep him speaks volumes. All this might be subjective but should he feel he can try his luck there why not? i for 1 think he can try his luck against those.

22.) 09 Mar 2018 13:43:53
That is a good point Ron. He did play a large part of the season injured and did his best, you can't say that about too many players now.

23.) 09 Mar 2018 17:35:28
I’m with you ed. I think this Madrid team would be far from the worst draw we could get next round.

24.) 09 Mar 2018 19:27:16
The gap between liverpool and Madrid is not as big as some of you imagine. Yeah they are better but it's not ridiculous to think that some of our top players could play in that Madrid team.

25.) 09 Mar 2018 19:41:51
To me its petty and small minded. Small minded in that the analysis is laced with bias thoughts of Can lol he has all the attributes to be a top midfielder at any club. Maybe he needs to be in a team that is more disciplined than ours to bring that out of him? I can see him being really good at real madrid.

With one yr left on his contract why couldn’t we have agreed to terminate his contract and let him join them on a free.

Don't players put in a transfer request if they want to leave a club? Surely this proves money is a huge factor as he would stand to lose his share of the transfer fee? Or is he just spineless.

Borini lives in fantasy world. He'd only be interested in a move to Barcelona, Munich or Madrid. Unfortunatly I think he'll be here until his contract runs down.

Sounds good to me 2 in, 3 out. Hopefully Seville buy aspas. I'm sure there will be a taker for Lambert (ings aerial ability more than happy with). Persuade Borini to finally move on.
