We r linked to Danny Drinkwater? Know any thing eds? Ed 1 do you rate him?

SingaporeRed

{Ed001's Note - he is going to be linked to a hundred clubs over the summer, he has made it clear he is happy where he is. He is decent enough, but not really someone I would target, as I don't think he offers any improvement over Henderson, for instance. Now Kante, I would move heaven and earth to get him in a Liverpool shirt. Even if I am not 100% convinced he has the top quality on the ball, he protects the top quality and gives them the opportunity to use their quality.}

1.) 24 May 2016 05:55:46
He would cost a fortune surely Ed. He is class though, from what I've seen. Surprised more people haven't been linked to him. So many teams could do with kante in their team.

2.) 24 May 2016 06:52:05
20 mil release clause.

3.) 24 May 2016 07:08:32
I know this is the LFC page but going forward from your comments below, has anyone shown interest in Kante? Ridiculous player that must be very highly sought after last season.

{Ed001's Note - yes mate, the whole of Europe have. He is the one player that has not indicated a commitment to stay, so it could be very interesting with regards to him. He could well end up somewhere like Barca, Bayern or PSG. Then again they might convince him to give it until the January window and see where the club are.}

4.) 24 May 2016 07:35:44
Much appreciated Ed. we'll have to get BennyBaller to get a crowd fund sorted to buy him for Liverpool! Ha.

5.) 24 May 2016 10:07:50
Would love to see Kante with us but somehow I don't see it lol great player.

6.) 24 May 2016 06:45:36
Yeah 7 agree with Ed1. Having Kante is like having an extra player in the field of play.

Rumours of a 20mil release clause. That's a steal if it's true.

And surely he is perfect for pressing .

No links to us though .

7.) 24 May 2016 09:14:45
Would love Kante to join, although not holding my breath. Would be a great DM and the first pure DM we have had since Mascherano left, really take a lot of pressure of the midfield.

That and it is a crime not sign him with all the terrible they Kante, oh he Can type puns when passing between our midfield.

{Ed001's Note - he is not a DM, never has been a DM and never will be a 'pure DM'. No idea why this nonsense keeps getting said. He is an old-fashioned central midfielder. He is far more than a limited defensive midfielder.}

8.) 24 May 2016 11:08:31
I think it was Leicester's assistant manager that summed Kante up best. That they play Drinkwater in central midfield and Kante either side of him!

9.) 24 May 2016 11:54:55
Watched a French documentary on how LC found Kante. The guy is out of this world and most certainly not a DM.

10.) 24 May 2016 12:50:41
Out of this world and out of our league, sadly.

11.) 24 May 2016 15:04:00
Unfortunately, Man City, UTD and Chelsea are after Kante and I'm sure that they have a better chance than we do, IF we were after him, which I doubt very much. And I haven't even mentioned top Spanish clubs who would love to get their hands on this player.
It's really frustrating that we cannot compete most of the time!

12.) 24 May 2016 17:03:11
Centre midfield has been a huge problem for years and we keep going after the wrong players. Serously hope we don't consider Drinkwater, he's had one season where he only looked good because of Kante. Other than that he's been poor.

14 May 2016 08:50:09
Ed1, 2 questions for you, gaffer .

1. Who are the realistic transfer targets that are actually better than the players we have right now?

2 I'm curious what your links to the club are. Are u an ex-player? Former staff member? Brenda's Dentist? Rafa's goatee? :)
.

YNWA.

SingaporeRed

{Ed001's Note - 1. Just about any goalkeeper would be an improvement over Mignolet. I do agree on the other positions though, we really need to be careful to ensure we only buy the best we can find. Not sure there is much in the way of realistic options right now for that.

2. None of the above. Sorry, have to guess again!}

1.) 14 May 2016 10:34:51
My guess is a cousin of a former player or a family friend of one?

2.) 14 May 2016 12:11:56
he's Not the Messiah, he's a Very Naughty Boy.

3.) 14 May 2016 14:06:42
What would be your ideal summer regarding transfers ed?

Also was it waterboy?

{Ed001's Note - goalkeeper and left back.

Well, if I was not a staff member, then obviously not....}

4.) 14 May 2016 15:20:24
Hey ed, do you have any updates on how many offensive players we will be adding? I think there is space for a winger in the squad, and that only in case Marcovic is to be off-loaded; however, filtering out the press rumours (which would have you believe we are targetting 7 new offensive players for a 0-0-10 formation), I expect that two will join - Gotze and A. N. Other (Rafa Silva or Kevin Volland) . If that happens, I would be very curious whether we will be off-loading or rotating heavily next year. Squad is getting kind of full, can't see Ojo and Kent getting much of a chance next year.

Also, my bet is that your real name is Charles Xavier, and ed02 is Wolverine.

5.) 14 May 2016 18:39:44
I remember about 5 years ago Ed001 sort of gave me the impression that he knows the Carragher family quite well. Whether or not that's where his info comes from though, I don't know.

{Ed001's Note - I don't get it from them, which is why I have no issue mentioning them by name.}

6.) 14 May 2016 21:58:55
Yeah that's what I thought Ed001. Pretty cool that you know Carra though :)

{Ed001's Note - not these days, it has been a long time since I spoke to him, though my uncle still knows him well.}

Ed1, if you're around .

Harry Wilson has scored 19 and made 9 assists in his last 28 u23 games. And he's u23 captain, of cos.

But he hasn't been given a chance at first team level yet. If I'm not wrong, he's not even trained with the 1st team like some of the others.

Is he not rated highly by Klopp? Is he thought to have a future at the club?

Appreciate your input. :)

SingaporeRed

{Ed001's Note - he struggled with an early rise to fame, with a full cap etc, so he is being held back now to allow him to develop fully away from the glare of the spotlight. Next season I would expect him to move full time to the first team squad.}

1.) 11 Jan 2017 09:18:38
Understandable ed, but is this not a good time to give him an opportunity with Mane missing? Or is it that Ojo is rated a lot higher by Klopp?
Seen very little of wilson tbh but read that his form has been excellent wheras Ojo has been injured this season so seems odd that Ojo isfavoured. seems bit of a kick in the teeth for Harry Wilson

{Ed001's Note - it is not a kick in the teeth, he needed to grow up a bit after his breakthrough with Wales. Now he is being given the chance to do so and learn to play other systems. Ojo is different, he was brought in from outside, with expectations and promises, so he has to be treated differently. Wilson just needs to show patience and keep doing what he is doing and he will get a chance. This is about maturing and developing as a person now. How he handles this will decide how his career develops.}

3.) 11 Jan 2017 09:38:03
Okay ed, hopefully he can do that and break into the first team, cheers!

{Ed001's Note - fingers crossed, the lad has the talent, he just needs to prove he has the application to match now.}

4.) 11 Jan 2017 10:54:00
While we're on the subject of young players ed1, any idea what has happened with Brannagan at all? I thought he looked the part, but am worried he won't make it now. Has he failed to make the step up, or any attitude problems maybe?
I was hoping to see him against Plymouth last weekend, but then the optimist in me thought maybe Klopp didn't pick him because he will be loaned in Jan and he didn't want him to potentially cup-tied for his new team?
Any info at all; much appreciated.

{Ed001's Note - to be honest, I think he will be moved on in the summer, sadly, judging by what I am told. Shame as we could have done with his setpiece delivery this season!}

5.) 11 Jan 2017 11:23:50
Really? Gutted about that.
Do you know why at all ed?
He seemed to have pretty much everything needed to make the grade, in my opinion.
And, yes, he was excellent at set pieces too. Definitely something we could improve on.
What's your view on the player?

{Ed001's Note - I like him, but he just wasn't making the progress from what I was told. However, the reason we let so many go from the youth set up was to increase each player's chances. Every player in the U23 set up has a chance to make it, so he still has the second half of the season left to earn a spot for next season.}

6.) 11 Jan 2017 13:07:19
That's fair enough then, I suppose. Shame though, as I really thought this would be his breakthrough year.
Yeah, you're right, hopefully he can step it up and turn it around for himself before the end of the season.
I wonder if a loan move would have helped him at all? I know Wigan were mentioned as a possibility; perhaps more regular playing time here (or elsewhere) would have seem him improve to the level needed?
Thanks for your response anyway ed; always a pleasure gaining some insight from you. Appreciate it, and all the graft you put into this site. Thaks!

{Ed001's Note - I am not a fan of the loan system personally. It very rarely benefits the player in making their way at the parent club. It might have helped him, but I have my doubts as Wigan are a mess.

You are very welcome, though I will not be about so much for a while after tomorrow. I am going down to Torremolinos on Friday to meet up with Ed003 then flying to the UK on Saturday to spend a week visiting my daughter and my best mate, hopefully find time to see other family as well. Then I come back here just to pack my stuff to return home. Not the best timing as it is January, but I had to go back to sort out my visa before February.}

7.) 11 Jan 2017 13:33:12
No, I can totally understand that. I'm just torn between the idea of fighting for his place here and the opportunity to get some more game time elsewhere.
I guess it's the right call to not send him to Wigan though, if they're in such a dire state.
Good stuff; hope you enjoy the break and have a nice catch up with your family and stuff. Love the Reds, but family is definitely the most important thing in the world.
Sounds busy, but I'm sure it'll be worth all the hassle mate.
Enjoy and be safe on your travels.

8.) 11 Jan 2017 15:55:59
It's a tough business and it's clear with Can, Grujic and now it seems Ejaria to try break into a starting role he's fighting a tough battle.

Ed1,

Happy new year, boss!

I recently read Beale saying Sakho and Ilori were our starting CB for the u23. It strikes me as a bit odd when those 2 are not supposed to have futures at LFC.

Shouldn't the game time be given to players who may have a future? For their development and all?

Appreciate your thoughts on this. :)

SingaporeRed

{Ed001's Note - they needed to play to give scouts a chance to look at them etc. Though Beale also was pushing for Ilori to get a chance, as he believed he was growing into a quality defender. Now he has gone, it has probably changed though, as the new guy will be feeling his way in, rather than trying to push through players.}

1.) 04 Jan 2017 09:15:28
Thanks Ed. :)

{Ed001's Note - welcome Sing.}

2.) 04 Jan 2017 12:32:51
Massive shame losing Beale, I get why and good luck to him but he's brought through some quality young players.

Ed1, ince transfer window is closing and i'm getting bored of the negatuvity - change of topic here.

2 LFC signings that really got me excited in the past were Jari Litmanen and Fernando Morientes. I was just gobsmacked when they signed. They were like Championship Manager moments coming true in real life.

What are your thoughts why they didn't quite make it here?

Limanen especially - wanted so much for him to work out; him being a Pool fan and all .

SingaporeRed

1.) 28 Aug 2016 19:38:38
Jari Litmanen was a classy player in his day. I wish Liverpool would have signed him years before they did though.

2.) 28 Aug 2016 19:41:30
They might not have fully settled due to culture change, also the change of pace football is played here would have hit them hard.

{Ed001's Note - Litmanen settled but Ged didn't like his desire to have input in tactics etc. Houllier just wouldn't give him time on the pitch because of it. That was also why he decided not to complete the permanent signing of Nic Anelka.

Morientes never settled in, he was too slow and he thought he was better than he was. He wanted everything about him, to just be focused on him and that was never going to happen.}

3.) 28 Aug 2016 22:45:36
Some of the best performances iv ever seen at anfield have cane from Litmanen.

4.) 28 Aug 2016 23:12:54
Ah, ok, thanks for clearing that up Ed, shame about litmanen, the morientes ego thing must have been influenced by him joining from Real Madrid.

08 Aug 2016 05:56:27
Good to see Jay Spearing scored the winner for Bolton. :)

Any idea if they paid the 100k or did our club help in some way?

SingaporeRed

1.) 08 Aug 2016 13:57:50
Nope, we were bastereds about it so he sat on the bench for two months for no good reason.

2.) 08 Aug 2016 18:36:01
Pathetic conduct by the club especially, to one of its own. Dreadful!

Was it at Grimsby the other week when this guy got on to the pitch at half time to propose? And the whole stadium chanted 'you don't know what you're doing'? Lol

But congrats buddy. Happy for ya!

I'd try Lovren and Matip in the middle and Klavan on the left. He couldn't do worse than Moreno .

I'd be utterly shocked and dismayed.

I'd be ok if Kevin Stewart started though. Seems like he could make another step up.

A little bit like a McMahon, no?
