Hi guys, question for ed2 if possible.

I know the latest Asensio superbid thing has already been debunked. My question is more about the previous transfer windows.

I can remember you saying that he was one to be potentially looked at last year etc. Just wondered if it ever went so far as an actual bid/ negotiations with player/ club at any point?

Sorry if this was already answered.

All the best, and thanks so much for your time.

Smallsy1984

{Ed002's Note - Marco Asensio was the subject of interest from Arsenal who were looking at one time to replace Sanchez with him, Liverpool who saw him as an option to Brandt, Monaco as part of any deal for Mbappe and Juventus amongst others. Others included PSG and Manchester United who made tentative enquiries but were told the players was not interested in them - so it ended there. Interersted sides were told he is was not for sale and Real were unwilling to have discussions with clubs about the player although they did enter in to discussion with another English side that went nowhere at the time. There great fear is that they could yte be tested by Barcelona looking to pay his release clause - in which case it would be down to the player to decide if he would be open to a move to Barcelona or not.}

1.) 27 Jun 2018 11:48:02
hey ed002 if i may ask if lfc were to be looking at asensio do you think we have the financial power to complete the transfer.

{Ed002's Note - If Salah were sold, sure.}

2.) 27 Jun 2018 13:30:36
i meant to ask without selling any of out star players and that includes salah as well. hope i am clear.

3.) 27 Jun 2018 17:13:56
Eds,

How flush are Liverpool? I realise VVD etc last winter and the summer transfers but we did sell couts for a healthy fee. I read that Klopps overall spend is £0. £158m is ridiculous but would we be able to offer mega money for players that warrant it if needed? Or is the salah response due to positions/ playing time etc.

Cheers.

{Ed002's Note - you need to really put asidethoughts of money. The Coutinho money is being paid in instalments. Forget what Waro tells you about the owners not investing - they are maxed out for FFP. Liverpool are well placed financially but are spending a debt has been rising.}

4.) 27 Jun 2018 17:25:21
Bobby, I think Ed002’s response can be interpreted as Liverpool do not have the financial firepower to sign Asensio without selling anyone.

5.) 27 Jun 2018 18:03:28
He's knows but got to keep you guessing ;)

6.) 28 Jun 2018 07:25:48
No. He said Liverpool do have the money but couldn't just spend that sort of money without breaking the rules. If 100m can be recouped from selling our 3 unwanted forwards and other players, then we can do what we want.

7.) 28 Jun 2018 10:01:37
£100M? who are you planning on selling for that? i doubt we will get more than £10million per player.

A rare type of question for ed002.

Who do you think is the no. 1 Goalkeeper in the World right now? Interested to hear your individual opinion on something rather than asking about transfers.

Smallsy1984

{Ed002's Note - It is very difficult to compare players at all and it is harder still where goalkeepers are playing for successful sides with strong defences as opposed to a goalkeeper who is playing for a struggling side and defence. In the Premier League the likes of Alisson and Ederson have been standing out - but right now they are playing with leading sides. It is not unlike Iker Casillas when he was at Real Madrid, Gianluigi Buffon at Juventus or Manuael Neuer at Bayer Munich a few years ago - they are all very good goalkeepers but each playing at the leading clubs. Who is to say that any of the up and coming goalkeepers like Ahmadou Dia of l'OM or Martín Silva of Libertad are not already the best in the world but we just don't know it yet? Millinarios' Wuilker Farinez is attracting the attention of leading European sides and Andrii Lunin is already shaping up for what is expected to be a good career after being plucked from the relative obscurity of Zorya Luhansk by Real Madrid. But I would have to probably say that consistent performer Jan Oblak (who was Klopp's pick for Liverpool) of Atletico Madrid might have the edge still.}

1.) 13 Feb 2020 10:01:17
Wow, excellent response Ed002. As much as i hate to say it, with him being a Man Utd player, but I think Dean Henderson will go far. He should be England's starting keeper in the Euros and beyond.

{Ed002's Note - A lot is expected of Dean Henderson as you say.}

2.) 13 Feb 2020 10:18:01
Glad klopp got our number keepe now as for me he is better imo than Oblak
We have won a champions league with our current keeper and could possibly win a league title someday 😂
Salah was klopp second or third choice so hopefully so is Werner lol 😂.

{Ed002's Note - Salah was fourth choice and it needed a hard sell by the scouting staff.}

3.) 13 Feb 2020 12:45:38
If I were utd, I’d cash in on De gea and put my faith in Henderson.

4.) 13 Feb 2020 13:08:15
As would I, LFC Hopeful. The trouble MUFC will have is offloading such a high-earning player. No one will go anywhere near those wages for someone barely in the top 5 of his position.

5.) 13 Feb 2020 19:09:30
Henderson has been amazing. Yes utd player but I like him. Been much better than de gea.

6.) 13 Feb 2020 23:40:54
Haven't seen enough of oblak, but Ali is so good. I don't know how he holds onto half the balls he does. He's the best for me.

7.) 14 Feb 2020 16:40:37
I think that’s the thing with Allison, I meant to ask Ed 1 a couple of months ago actually if there had been a change in the way our keepers are being coached. I felt when allison first came in he was pushing shots out, just like the previous 2 keepers had been, but the last few months has been a noticeable difference where by he’s holding on to most shots. It makes one hell of a difference to the way we defend and must be great for the defence not trying to scramble rebounds all the time. Previously it felt like fairly average shots were turned into dangerous situations from the way the sacs were being made.

Question for Ed002 if possible. Its unrelated to Liverpool in a direct way, but indirectly affects us. feel free to move etc.

What do you make of the Mourinho to Tottenham move? Do you think its an astute bit of business by Levy? or a bit of a shot in the dark?

Thanks, all the best all eds and readers.

Smallsy1984

{Ed002's Note - It became apparent it was going to happen when I was in Cologne early last week. The issue at the time was to do with compensation for MP and his team and throwing the the compensation package for him moving elsewhere out of the window. His (MP) feeling was the time was right so that eased the financial situation a reasonable amount. JM has agreed a deal based on achievement - so a decent package and then bonuses for a., b., c. etc.. He, with the right people around him is the best there is. He commands respect is approachable and will provide a medium short to medium term fix for Spurs. I cannot say enough about good he really is - but, the situation at Spurs is different from many sides and it is rather an edgy relationship is is likely to have with a very hands on owner at Spurs. He is also someone who stays close to players that he has had before. And there are many less attractive players who no exactly what he wants - an don’t be concerned if there is an odd by or two. The relationship with Levy would be the risk. It is a good question, thanks.}

1.) 26 Nov 2019 15:40:56
FFS. He's been back in the game as a manager a week and already I'm sick of hearing about the "Recycled one" am I the only one?

2.) 26 Nov 2019 23:18:14
Besides his connection to other clubs, I like Mourinho. I hope he does well for spurs except for when he plays us.

Just watched the highlights from the Dortmund game. I know as fans we can quickly forget things and easily get wrapped up in negativity but what a night that was. It was almost as if you could sense the comeback after it hit 3-2. I know its not been smooth sailing under Klopp but whatever your opinion on him as a manager, since he came in we've had some insanely entertaining matches and played some absolutely amazing football!

I personally can't wait for the next few years.

Smallsy if those fans had given up, thrown their toys out of their prams and left the stadium while the team and manager were staring down the barrel of defeat, that outcome does not happen. I always say it. Supporting your team thru thick and thin, is not for the faint-hearted or the mentally weak or for the petulant, spoiled brat. It takes bravery and courage to stare down the barrel of defeat and support your team thru thick and thin and never give up on them EVEN under the heaviest feeling of maddening frustration.

I will always respect those fans in Istanbul who never waivered, never blinked when we were 3-0 down and facing going 5-0 down. They sang their lungs out all game in hope that our boys could somehow do it and THEY DID IT. I love this club and regardless of my frustrations, I will never turn my back on it. Red Till I'm Dead!

Alot of us obviously ask for the opinions of Ed002 and Ed001 when it comes to transfers and views etc so I thought for a different perspective I'd like to hear ED025's thoughts on the squad for a change. Where do you think we fall short/ need to strengthen etc. And imagine if you were lucky enough to support the red side of the city what would you like to see happen in the summer? I've been reading behind the scenes for a long time and I do enjoy your input. Even if you are the enemy :)

Smallsy1984

{Ed025's Note - im not the enemy smallsy just a football fan with a different perspective, the problems with liverpool for me is all about the defence, matip is the only one i would keep out of your back 4 as lovren, klavan and de-clyne are awful, milner i would keep as a utility squad player and migs even though he has been very good lately needs upgrading as hes not a long term answer, you also need a goal scorer as origi is poor and sturridge is an incredibly talented waste of space, someone like lukaku would win you the title with the talent you have in midfield and the chances you create, another wide man would be good but not imperative and i think you have the best manager in the league which helps, the problem is that you dont have the money to fix all this in one go and it will take another couple of seasons for liverpool to be realistic contenders mate but good luck anyway..

1.) 27 Apr 2017 10:39:46
Back 5 is a necessity rather than a luxury. Matip could be actually a third choice CB. We need pure class at the back else's we will continue to ship in record number of goals .

Our Full backs are useless and only Klopp knows why he persists with either two.
We have no decent CM. All jack of all trades and spade of none players playing all over the modified making up numbers. End of the day everyone lool up to Coutinho to drop deep and start an attack.
Up front Firmino is class but won't score bough goals for all the little skills he shows up to win the title.

Hate to say but we need more than 6 players all will walk into our first team.

Had Arsenal and UTD were not terrible we would be just above Everton.

2.) 27 Apr 2017 10:41:06
i tend to agree with most of that apart from not needing another wide man. Someone who can play on the left and provide assists goals would make our attack more balanced.

But sadly you are right about our defence, its shocking at times. But i have high hopes for gomez coming through next season so he could be a real boon if he continues his recovery. I would be stoked if we could get a lacazette but sadly we don't have the funds or probaby even the interest. We seem to only buy potential rather than the finished article.

It will be an interesting summer depending on whether the players hold their nerve and get top 4.

3.) 27 Apr 2017 10:33:05
origi is still quite young and although he has been woeful for a lot of the season has still scored goals, also lukaku, like many of our players, only turn up when the rest of the team is playing well and will not get stuck in in difficult situations.

4.) 27 Apr 2017 10:56:20
Great assessment that. A 20+ a season goal scorer with our current squad would certainly put us close to winning the title.

5.) 27 Apr 2017 11:19:27
Origi is an enigma for me - he will, on occasion, look unplayable and i'll think 'wow we've got some talent on our hands here' and then for the next 7 games he'll do sod all and get dominated by the opposition, create little and just fade.

I think next season is a crucial season for him - he hasn't shown all that much improvement from last season (in fact you could argue that he has regressed slightly as, at the end of last season, he was really improving and contributing to the team) - he needs to step up in a big way next season, if he doesn't I can see him being replaced.

Will he step up? Very difficult to know given his form this season - if he finds consistency, and the confidence that brings, then he could take off. If not he might find himself moving on.

6.) 27 Apr 2017 13:32:34
Agree with seano on Origi, although he is young and relatively inexperienced I do feel he isn't the long term first choice answer so much as a really good back up.

A 20+ goal scorer may have papered over the defensive cracks (chasms? ) but that might mean the defence wouldn't get sorted. Agree with Ed25 only Matip should be playing there next season if the ambition is to improve but unless the scouting has massively changed the money isn't there to achieve that. Only TAA seems to offer a available internally upgrade and how long before the fans would turn on him?

7.) 27 Apr 2017 16:16:27
I agree with most of that, Studge i just wish could get a game and get some goals going but it's looking unlikely that will happen much again.

Origi i like but hasn't been that good recently, but his hold up play is pretty good overall.

The only thing i disagree with is 20 a season striker. Although I would love one i don't think it's as important as made out just because we are the highing scoring prem team so it seems we can grab enough goals but ship too many in at the back. That said who knows if we had a striker in top form we might be doing even better in terms of scoring! But just at the back we look like we need a lot of work.

8.) 27 Apr 2017 17:41:26
Origi needs to be supported, he is young, still learning his way in life and his position at top level.
He has been off his game a bit more but youngsters usually struggle for consistency. He gives us a good option as a striker, different to others. The question of will he realise his potential only time will tell, but he needs to be supported to keep his confidence while we find out.

9.) 27 Apr 2017 08:10:24
Ed025 showing you have your head screwed on again. Have to agree re the back 5, though I'm not sure about Milner past this season. I also agree about a goalscorer, but am somewhat optimistic that Ings can do a job if he gets to fitness. Ah, what I wouldn't give for Suarez to come back : (.

{Ed025's Note - suarez was excellent burkey and almost single handedly won you the league, ings is certainly a grafter mate but i think you may need a bit more quality than him if you are to challenge for top honours..

10.) 27 Apr 2017 08:44:39
Interesting Ed25. I don't agree on Lukaku or players in similar mould, but I do agree on the idea that the team might be lacking that finishing edge. Others shouted on the likes of Woodburn and Wilson, in few years time, maybe they are the answer. On the short term, Origi and Sturridge seem not enough. Thanks Ed25.

{Ed025's Note - no problem haizan, i just feel that with the likes of couts, firminho, lallana and mane providing the ammunition that romelu would score a shed load of goals mate..

11.) 27 Apr 2017 10:15:15
A very good honest response talking sense! And I don't class you the enemy, Man Utd take that title for me!

{Ed025's Note - im not the enemy welsh, just a straight talking scouser who at times may have a bluish tint in my eye mate.. :)

Question for ED001.

Been reading the site for a fair old time now. cheers for all the effort you put in, I seem to spend half my life on here.

A few years back I vaguely remember Son-heung-min being touted as an option I think during Rodgers era before Spurs snapped him up. My question is a) were we anywhere near to actually putting pen to paper and b) do you agree that he would be/ have been a great fit in our current system?

All the best mate.

Smallsy1984

{Ed001's Note - not really mate, we looked at him but never got near to signing him sadly. Most of the links seemed to originate from me really wanting us to sign him, even though we so rarely sign the players I would choose for us. I think he would have been a great signing for us, though he might have got hounded out of the club by the fans after his first season, as he did not start well for Spurs. Shows the value of patience.....}

1.) 16 Apr 2017 09:16:05
Ed01 i remember speaking to jan molby on lfctv asked him we should sign at the time his big tip was Son higjly rated.

{Ed001's Note - Jan is not really in the know, and would not have been allowed to reveal anything on the in-house channel even if he had known something. Shame, I would have loved him.}

2.) 16 Apr 2017 09:48:16
Thought you guys said it was between firmino and son and we went for son first only to be told he wasnr for sale.

Then he went at the ebd of the summer.

3.) 16 Apr 2017 09:49:29
Sorry maybe used the wrong word- tip- opinion- he said son was one who hed like to see come to lfc- amongst others from bundasliga. Id spoken to him previouslyand he wanted suarez at that time. Another he said would suit lfc then was erikson.

4.) 16 Apr 2017 11:28:27
this day and age its really hard to be patient though. if karius is our no 1 next season, the moment he makes 1 or 2 mistakes that cost us points, everyone will be calling for his head again.

Just want to clarify something ed002.

When referring to the Liverpool front 3 and how its implausible for our front 3 to be dropped and Timo being a rotation player. how can Chelsea be interested in replacing a player that's had a couple of starts and a few sub appearances this season? In Giroud? And that being a plausible solution.

Smallsy1984

{Ed002's Note - Chelsea have a need to maintain the status quo of three strikers - it is not about appearances or rotation. You are suggesting just adding players - which is a whole different thing. I am surprised that you find that difficult to understand.}

“If it was the price stopping us looking at him again we'd have moved for him this summer when he went to Spain for €20M”

The 20m is irrelevant. To us it would more likely to have been 35m. That’s if Lyon even entertained the idea of doing business with us after pulling out last time round. Should we need an AM next season and he has an outstanding season with Betis. what’s to say we wouldn’t declare interest again? It’s only really age that’s against him, but he’s only 25/ 26 I think.

You’re basically saying “I think I’ll believe Fekir as it’s straight from the horses mouth”. His words probably hold as much water as Harry Kane saying “I’ve never dived in my life”. Players and managers rarely give the full picture when speaking to the press/ public.

Little Naby. how is it so hard for you to grasp? The price was a sticking point in the 2018 transfer window. A year later clearly our transfer targets will have changed, especially after a season in which we were one point from winning the Prem and then winning the CL.

Also you do realise prices are massively inflated to prem teams, especially the top 6?. Just because Betis paid that, doesn't mean the fee would be anywhere near the same if it were us buying the player.

I don’t understand what people aren’t getting here. The city model of having high profile ‘marquee’ players on the bench is all well and good, but they’re clearly having trouble keeping the likes of Mahrez/ Sane/ Gundogan happy and keep the harmony within the squad.

Some of our best buys have been players with a high level of potential but maybe haven’t quite reached that top echelon yet. Just look at Robertson. Klopp is obviously excellent at getting the players to take that next step and keeping the group hungry and ready for the challenge. The progress has been superb, why change the ethos that’s worked so well?

Thanks and good luck.

RedWolf, you've nailed it for me there.

If we miss out on the title, fair play. Best team won. But to say we bottled it? Jesus.

It could end up finishing as it is now. 1 point in it. how can that constitute bottling it? We've hardly crippled under pressure if that happens. Just one team has had one less fortunate result than the other. Sh** happens mate.
