I read a report on the papers section from SSN that we have made a bid for Cheryshev is this just nonsense ed?

Somerset Red

{Ed002's Note - Whilst it would make some sense I understand there has not been any bid submitted. Villareal and CSKA Moscow are still showing an interest in the player, although Villareal will only want a further loan.}

Does anyone rate him? Not seen him play so can't comment. 22 million seems a lot. I'd rather see ibe in the team personally.

Ed02 have the rules on players being registered changed from last season as the amount of players that have come in is pretty similar to the amount that have left. So I don't understand the issue I know we have had some return from loans but surely that gives us the flexibility to send others out on loan to even the numbers out?

{Ed002's Note - See previous answer.}

For me my mind was never fully made up on Sakho and having seen him in recent weeks he's been abysmal, even against Villa I witnessed him lose at least 3 headers to the likes of agbonlahor. He's been back from injury for long enough and his form is showing no signs of improving. He would be my choice to go and keep Skrtel, Lovren, Ilori, Gomez and Matip.

Why Skrtel out? In my opinion he's still our best defender. He took a lot of the blame for us being defensively poor and Sakho should have been starting over him but I'm yet to be impressed with Sakho. Skrtel and Moreno were deemed to be letting him down with their positional play but for me he's the weakest link at the moment. His timing is all over the place he made a couple of last ditch blocks last night but for the most part he was either mis timing headers or diving in. We would be better defensively with Skrtel. pretty much every manger we've had has chosen him over the others to start which in my opinion says a lot about the guy.

Somerset Red

{Ed001's Note - erm sorry, you seem to be forgetting that only Rodgers and Klopp have had the option of our current defenders to pick from, so 'pretty much every manager' actually means one guy, the Bodger. So what it says is absolutely nothing other than you are making things up to back a player you like.}

Oh ok I didn't realise that. Thanks. There must be some part of you that thinks it's not all doom and gloom. I've got visions of coutinho and Firminio terrorising defences, clyne bursting forward and Milner forming a great partnership hith Henderson and Sturidge staying fit and bagging 20. I can dream at least!

Fair comment and I agree about confidence but 9,10 and 11 were taken so what shirt was the likes of Ings or Origi realistically going to take?

Somerset Red

{Ed001's Note - there were numbers available when Ings came in that have since been taken mate.}

Milner and Firminio have taken numbers 7, 11 so the only players that have taken the higher numbers are largely unproven players who are likely to develop given time and then possibly take a new number if it works out for them. Not nesesarily a bad position given their age. I really hope we are not in as much of a mess as you say Ed! I'm trying to be optimistic about things and if we manage to get rid of few to reduce the squad numbers and wage bill then we may have an exciting young team who will be hungry for success.

Somerset Red

{Ed001's Note - I don't want a player to aim to take a number in the future, after fans have spent money on shirts, they should stick with the number they get first off. I want to see a striker have the confidence to say 9 is mine, not hide away from the pressure. Confidence is a huge part of goalscoring, if you don't have the confidence to take pens then hide away from an important number that is a problem.}

Don't really understand what your point is 87red, surely the point of this site is to be informed of players we are interested in by the eds then if we've never heard of them to check them out and form an opinion? How can you have an opinion if you've never seen or heard of a player. I'm married with a job and three kids so I don't play Fifa and I don't have the time to google random players so I can give an opinion before someone else just so I can brag about the fact that I commented on them first!

I can't disagree with anything that has been written about Lalana but at the same time I can't help but think when he was at Southampton he often played on the left side of a front three and seemed to score more frequently as he cut in on his right foot. I'd just like to maybe see him given an opportunity in that position to see if it helps him improve but on the other hand we have Coutinho!

Redohio do you not think a truly great centre half should go pretty much unnoticed. For me the best centre backs read the game well and do the basics very well 99% of the time. Which cannot be said of Sakho, as I've said before he does have qualities that I appreciate but he is no way a great centre back.
The reason his faults become highlighted are because of his unorthodox way in which he does things which look awkward and unnerving. The best example I can think of would be Alan Hansen not a monster in the tackle and not blessed with blistering pace but just went about his business largely unnoticed but without putting a foot wrong the majority of the time.

Once maybe but 3 times. Plus I was at the Augsburg game and you could see that Sakho did not give a big coommanding shout when stepping on to the ball that you would expect from a centre back.
