I don't understand the criticism on henderson. I believe he can be a great anchorman for us. Ha have the ebergy and the passing range, it juat that he have a very average partner in midfield at the moment. Lalana and wijnaldum did'nt offer anything going forward. I see our beat midfield is can-grujic and henderson. With the energy and strength of can and grujic marauding forward, and henderaon to stabilise thw defence.

I'd put Can at the back and Hendo/ Grujic further forward but agree with the sentiment. Llalana or Wijnaldum i see as attacking players, either most advanced of the midfield 3 or in the attacking mids of a 4-2-3-1, but certainly not together in a midfield 3 with only Hendo behind them, they leave him too exposed.

2.) 23 Aug 2016 04:55:15
Henderson has no great passing range. His passes are mainly to either Clyne or Milner. One of the reason we heavily relies on Coutinho to pick the player.

{Ed001's Note - rubbish, you clearly haven't watched him play if you think that is all he does. The same lies were always spouted of Lucas, even though he always went for a pass forward if it was on. Hendo has often hit 40 yard crossfield passes to a man in space, the problem was against Burnley that no one was in space and no one was giving any movement to pass to.}

Ok this I have read a lot that Henderson to help the defense. He cannot help the defense because he is not cut for it. His positional awareness leaves a lot to be desired for that role. Henderson's best position is up the midfield suppoting attacks. he is not a holding midfielder. That role should be played by Stewart or Lucas, especially when we are playing a three man midfield, one of the three has to be stewart/ lucas. we are playing too many players out of position and hence the burnley defeat. milner at lb. hendo at defensive sort of mid. wijni and lallana in the mid . sturidge out on right of attack. migs in goal :) . Way too many players out of position. Just because they are good players to see on team sheet doesn't mean they will perform out of position. even if they could perform they would need ample time to adapt to that role. I don't understand this though when we have specialist players. my midfield would be can stewart and hendo/ grujic. Wijnaldum and lallana don't have the balance in their game to control the midfiield . They either loose way too many balls or dwell on the ball way too much and are often caught in possession as we have seen in the two games. obviously with time they can adapt their game but that doesn't make sense when you have out and out midfielders on bench.

{Ed001's Note - his positional awareness is exactly what makes him suited to the role. The issue lies with the rest of the team having none.}

4.) 23 Aug 2016 05:31:42
He's weak defensively and in the positions he takes up, both when the team is with the ball and without. All things that are necessary to be an effective anchorman. He can do a job no doubt but our defence will always be vulnerable with him central. It's not a slat it's just how i read it, some players don't have every quality in to their game.

{Ed001's Note - except the one thing he does well, and is why he was chosen to play the role, is because he takes up the right positions.}

5.) 23 Aug 2016 07:14:16
Squad player at best.

6.) 23 Aug 2016 07:16:15
I ll happily disagree there Ed01. If you go back and heck out third goal against Arsenal. Henderson had the ball to pick Clyne instead he passed it back to Lovren playing the safe route. Lovren picked Firmino in the space and Firmino set up Clyne.
Henderson for me plays the safe option, I don't think he takes the risk in picking up players ahead.

2 years ago This man was the best B2B player in the league and we all looked at him as the next possible Vidal and 2 years later he is more like a poor man's Carrick.
His biggest strength is his engine and pressing. Instead of playing him high up we really shoning him to a deeper role for what? Should have bought a holding player and partnered him with Henderson.
We have ruined a hard working player precisely playing him out of his comfort zone for reasons none are aware.
He should have occupied the role currently by Wijnaldum.

My thoughts.

{Ed001's Note - wow one example. One example that led to a goal as well, yet you are criticising the choice. Shows how ridiculous your criticism is really doesn't it? I think there is little point in having this conversation if that is how you think. You would have been crying like a little bitch every single game during the Paisley years if you are going to criticise a player for a pass that keeps possession. It would help if you ever bothered to watch Vidal if you think Hendo's game at any point in his career resembled Vidal's it is clear you haven't seen him play. Though, considering you watch Henderson regularly and have no idea what he does, I suppose I shouldn't be surprised about ridiculous comparisons.}

7.) 23 Aug 2016 07:55:19
Apprently it's all because Can did not replace Lucas for which he was bought in the first place. The club thought to bring a big strong man in the middle. But he turned out to be a indisciplined midfielder who needs a disciplined player alongside him.

8.) 23 Aug 2016 08:30:01
Problem is ed you complain about shoehorning players.

Do you not think hendo is better than lallana with were lallana is currently playing?

I like hendo anywhere in midfield but he is the best at b2b, the best game I saw from him was Cardiff at Christmas in the 2nd season. He was phenomenal. Spraying passing, pressing, tackling. I just believe we should have Stewart, wij and hendo in the middle.

{Ed001's Note - that is not the point, I am not saying that he should be playing that role, we have Stewart and Lucas who should play the role. I am saying that all these people getting on his back are missing the point. It is the players around him dragging him down that are the issue. We have an utterly inept back 5, that somehow he is being expected to cover for all of them. I mean look at the second goal against Burnley, where the hell was Klavan? Why was Lovren missing? Where was Milner? Why was Clyne not telling Lovren to get over and help Hendo? Then there is Lallana and Wijnaldum alongside him, who offer nothing going forward and nothing defensively. Yet everyone is on the back of the one player who is actually doing his job. Hendo is suffering from the exact same problem Lucas had, being overrun because he is the only one there.

Also going forward, he has the same issue the attacking players have, no movement to pick out. Against Burnley there was no space, but that was made worse by advancing the fullbacks early and showing no patience with shots. Nothing to pass to forward, so why do people complain he was passing sideways and backwards?}

9.) 23 Aug 2016 08:30:05
ed i still believe stewart and lucas would do a better role than hendo for a defensive midfielder. hendo can play better up the midfield teeing uo forwards and runners. one of hendo's best quality is he is always available to receive the ball and also he can press and win the ball. i still doubt his defensive abilities plus his best talents are really not displayed. however i would say ed 001 is correct in saying lallana and wijni pairing with him is rather not best to judge.

{Ed001's Note - I agree, but that is not the point, his positioning is fine, he is being let down by the team around him. One man can't defend on his own, yet for Burnley's second goal that is what happened. He held up the forward so others could get back but still got no help. That is exactly what he should have done. So what happened to the help? Why did Clyne not come narrow so Lovren could cover? Where was Milner and Klavan? There are eleven players there not working together at all, yet somehow one of our better players has become the scapegoat, while the real guilty parties are being absolved of blame.}

10.) 23 Aug 2016 09:21:52
Henderson was outstanding against Spurs at WHL when we trashed them 5-0. He set up Suarez for the first goal and scored the second one himself.
I will probably go on for a strike to play him higher up. He is what we missed higher up the pitch. His constant pressing, He links the midfield to attack.
Release the shackle of holding role from Henderson and he will score plenty going forward.

{Ed001's Note - which is why I failed to understand the signing of Wijnaldum when we already had a much better player in Henderson for the role he plays.}

11.) 23 Aug 2016 10:07:20
Exactly My dear Ed01. Wijnaldum is another version of Henderson which the club never needed. Over the top what role would Grujic play here? He looks another solid talent who could play higher up.

{Ed001's Note - a worse version of Hendo. Grujic looks top class, he needs to play ahead of a midfield pair.}

12.) 23 Aug 2016 11:14:47
Totally agree with ED001 9' Grujic, he looks top quality. We need to see more of him as I think he will definitely improve our midfield no end!

13.) 23 Aug 2016 16:00:57
Ed what do you think of a Can, Hendo, grujic midfield three? I think that would be a major improvement.

{Ed001's Note - it could hardly be worse than having Lallana and Wijnaldum in there! Neither of those two are any good in the role they are being asked to play.}

14.) 24 Aug 2016 17:22:27
Ed speaks the truth. The hendo haters couldn`t be bothered to watch him actually play as they are so focused on way to bash him. On Burnley`s first goal, I haven`t seen anyone bash clyne for passing the ball to the opponent with his eyes open. haven`s heard anyone beat up on Wiji and Lallana or even Studge for sleep walking thru the whole game nor has anyone slated Klopp for not making changes early in the game when it was clear that we were in trouble. No One! All we hear is Hendo this or Hendo that because that`s all the haters can think about.

Those who dislike him and are always on his back are those who were hoping BR would get rid of him but the boy refused to leave and established himself. The boy does his job on the pitch and he gets no help because all the other players are playing crap but get next to no grief for their useless performances. I said it from the get go that Wijnaldum was not needed and Lallana needed to be sold but Klopp knew best so if they screw up, it`s his cross to bear. Grujic and or Can need to play and Wij and Lallana need to be benched. origin up top with Firmino and Matip needs to step in for Klavan (who I like but lacks pace) or Lovren who is still erratic. We have a good team but the players need to be put in positions to succeed and right now, Klopp isn`t doing that.

Look like mahrez will be playing on the right side while salah playing more centrally. Firmino will be the creativity needed in midfield thought not as good as coutinho in opening though defence but the front three of mane, salah and mahrez could be very exciting with their skill set.
