Hi all
A quick question for Ed002 if I may.
I have been reading through about the prospect of the league being null and void this season due to the coronavirus.
If it were to be cancelled, and no team to be made champions, religated or promoted.
Who would qualify for the top four teams to go through to the champions league? As these four teams would need to make the numbers up to accommodate the competition going ahead.
Common sense would say the top four teams as they stand in the league.
But is that fair on the teams that are close behind with a chance of making the top four?
Given the revenue the competition presents for the teams involved!
As always, appreciate your time and opinion.

Tris79

{Ed002's Note - There has been no discussion about relegation. If a line were drawn across now then Liverpool, Manchester City, Leicester would go into the CL. The following three teams would go in to the Europa League if the Premier League were to be cancelled.}

1.) 13 Mar 2020 23:18:48
Ed002 why only 3 teams into the CL. Or was it a mistype and you missed Chelsea out.

{Ed002's Note - Yes - I erred, Chelsea will go in as well.}

2.) 14 Mar 2020 00:00:50
If this season is void then all the clubs should be forced to start the next season with the exact same squad (barring retirements) as they started the 2019/ 20 season so as to keep the playing field exactly the same.

3.) 14 Mar 2020 09:41:39
Johnnyr1970, I have no idea what that means. Pls, elaborate.

4.) 14 Mar 2020 12:12:32
I meant that no teams should be allowed to make transfers so that the squads are exactly the same at the start of the 2020/ 21 season as they were when the 2019/ 20 season ended. I was a bit drunk when I wrote it to be fair but I liked it!

Thinking about it now, it would never be allowed. For me they should void the Euros, CL and Europa leagues and get the national leagues done in a short space of time once this situation improves. The national leagues are football's 'bread and butter' and we should try and complete those seasons above all other competitions - there'll be endless legal nonsense if we don't about who won league, who gets relegated, who gets promoted, who gets top 4 spot, etc, etc, etc.

{Ed002's Note - What "legal nonsense" are you talking about. Who would be making a claim against who?}

5.) 14 Mar 2020 18:34:16
So you don't think that whoever is currently top of the championship won't try to sue the PL as they won't get promoted?

A question for ED001 please if your free
Steve Nicol was a brilliant player in his day.
But I can't stand him as a pundit.
He seems to have an opinion on everything and imo, talks nonsense.
What's your opinion of him?

Tris79

{Ed001's Note - brilliant player but he is just not very bright and has little insight. I have watched a little of him as a pundit in the past and it just made me cringe.}

1.) 19 Jun 2019 01:29:43
He makes Craig Burley look half smart.

2.) 19 Jun 2019 11:14:16
Make Alan Smith sound like Big Ron.

3.) 19 Jun 2019 14:43:03
He's just so pompous and full of himself when he talks. As if what he has to say is the final word.

06 Mar 2019 18:29:50
A question for Ed001 if your around
I think, barring a miracle, that 1st and 2nd place in the league with go between us and City.
Who do you fancy to finish 3rd and 4th come the end of the season?

Tris79

{Ed001's Note - probably Spurs and Man Utd.}

1.) 06 Mar 2019 20:53:17
I think so too, Ed01. I think Arsenal and Chelsea will fall short.

2.) 06 Mar 2019 21:17:09
I’m going with spurs and arsenal.

3.) 06 Mar 2019 21:33:26
Me too jones.

4.) 06 Mar 2019 22:11:14
I think Unt might finish third the way things are going, I’m not sure I’ve ever seen a turnaround like it. 10 players out tonight and they beat PSG in Paris.

5.) 06 Mar 2019 22:19:44
United are showing the impact of belief, confidence and momentum. Ole has instilled in them a never say die attitude that wasn’t there under mou maybe we can take a leaf out of their book for the remaining games.

6.) 06 Mar 2019 22:21:14
I think they should be drug tested!, what happened to the great side mourinho had 😯.

{Ed025's Note - they got a manager and some self belief mate..

7.) 06 Mar 2019 22:23:49
Ole will have a brilliant end to the season, keep the job, then be sacked 10 games in. Seen it all before.

8.) 06 Mar 2019 22:28:57
I know it's a hugely unpopular thing to say but it was nice to see United win tonight. Great night for them and British football.

{Ed025's Note - well said mate..

9.) 06 Mar 2019 22:31:35
Great result tonight, Dortmund, PSG, Madrid and Bayern all going out in the round of 16.

PSG absolutely gifted that game, I think they need to investigate match fixing.
All 3 Man Utd goals were given away. When has Buffon made an error like that? How was that penalty awarded after VAR?

Definite match fixing tonight.

{Ed025's Note - your bigger than that ron, bit of credit where its due needed i think mate, was it match fixing when liverpool came back from 3-0 down to win the CL against milan?...no just a great win in the face of adversity..

10.) 06 Mar 2019 22:39:44
No the biggest change there is mike phelan, he is the man United way and ole is just the positive front on it being positive In the media an basically respecting the players, it's a pure collective effort every single player fighting for each other . When we had the chance too really make a statement in terms of our title intentions we never stood up and made it really count with the games against man city Leicester westham, i envy spirit like what man united have displayed since mourinho was sacked I have watched most of there games and they have been amazing from front too back . I hope us reds grow a pair an don't play with the fooking handbrake on that's what frustrates the most!

11.) 06 Mar 2019 22:42:18
We need to win next week, Unt, spurs, Ajax and Porto through knocking out Real, Dortmund, PSG and Roma could be wide open this year.

12.) 06 Mar 2019 22:43:09
I think we will be the only English team out Ron. your post is an example of the simple minded Liverpool fan that embarrasses the rest of us.

13.) 06 Mar 2019 23:05:11
Ok some of you didn’t get the joke. Do you REALLY think I suspected match fixing? Come on lads 🤔

I was commenting on the nature of their goals and we all know PSG have a history of gifting matches at this stage of the season.
I’d give ManU credit if they were the better team but they really weren’t and I thought the penalty decision was ridiculous. I’d be interested in Benny’s opinion of it.

14.) 07 Mar 2019 00:44:39
Think Ron is very much toungue in cheek guys. Psg very very much want to win the CL. Lucky win no doubt.

15.) 07 Mar 2019 01:16:19
I think fair play to utd. I picture it as if it was us in that situ. But really im amazed cause i was just going to say that it is Mike Phelan behind this and that when going gets tough Ole will get fired after 10 games next season. But he is genuine nice guy and just getting to watch class of 92 with salford these guys live and breathe football. Come on Liverpool let's believe this is our year. that's only way.

16.) 07 Mar 2019 01:28:30
Look they did win and im happy that they won as it knocked a top team out but they were damn lucky you can't say they weren't.

17.) 07 Mar 2019 01:30:18
Utd will make it. They have tried different managers and different styles but ole has brought back that winning mentality that fergie instilled.

I don't care what happens underneath us but it may be more interesting next season with utd.

But ask yourself this; how many players would you swap for ours? Not many, maybe one.

18.) 07 Mar 2019 06:29:13
If you watch the defenders eyes as he spun around he knew exactly what he was doing. Definite penalty Anyway come June we won’t have to debate as the greyness in the rule will be removed.

Through gritted teeth, fair play to Man U and shame on PSG for that performance.

19.) 07 Mar 2019 08:09:50
Gents, I don't think Phelan is behind all the tactical changes we have seen, or getting far more out of players than we have seen. I think he's nailed on for the job, inget the Di Matteo comparisons but I think he'll be just fine.

20.) 07 Mar 2019 10:49:43
I got it Ron. I though your post was funny.

21.) 07 Mar 2019 11:17:28
I like your loyalty AJH but I'm just not convinced OGS is a top class manager. Maybe he'll prove me wrong. I think the simple fact is that Utd have a decent group of players who were being terribly managed by JM - I reckon most of us could get that team into the top 4. It's when OGS gets given cash to spend will be when the problems start, Utd is not a club to be learning your trade at and he hasn't been hugely successful anywhere else.

22.) 07 Mar 2019 15:20:58
I will save my judgement for when OGS is given the job cos right now, he is in a win-win for him. If he fails now, he gets credit for giving it a good go. If he succeeds then, he gets the credit and rightfully so. If he gets the job full time, then we will see if he is a top class manager cos then, it will be his team and his tactics, worked on during preseason. There will be nothing else for him to rely on if things go south. Let's wait and see.

23.) 07 Mar 2019 19:20:21
As long as mike phelan is number 2 man United will be back with a bang if they mess round with this set up it will be there downfall, the formula they have found has everyone on side fans manager squad and it's dynamite fair play, brilliant decision making.

24.) 07 Mar 2019 23:53:07
Why do I have a horrible feeling Manc blue prem and Manc red CL that would be the worst.

A question for the edds if I may,
Now that the main stand has been completed.
Are there plans to press ahead with the second phase of the Anfield road end expansion?
Love this site and appreciate all the time and effort from all the edds.
Also a shout out to all of the regular posters, You lads also make this site what it is.

Tris79

{Ed002's Note - Nominally yes but it will only happen when plans are approved and growth is assured. Financially, it is not a winner.}

1.) 07 Mar 2019 23:06:01
Outlining permission was granted a while ago and they have until September to submit detailed plans. I have heard mixed messages from FSG as they said it’s not financially viable a while back and had a back handed dig at the fans around the time of the walkout but Peter Moore said last year that they are working on it, although the original design might change and they have to start the planning application over again.
Seems to me it might be a while away before the expansion happens if it ever does. I for one hope it’s does as it should help fans get tickets although the expansion of the main stand hasn’t really changed much regarding ease of getting hands on tickets, although this has coincided with and upturn in performance and results.

We never seem to batter utd and always show them way too much respect.

Beating Dortmund at Anfield was one to remember. That match had everything.
