Bradley is working his way back from injury but there's certainly a talent there. I really like him aswell.

There must be a way to create a wage cap like they have in the NHL where the clubs have a certain amount for wages.
If you want Haaland and Neymar you'd have to play a couple of 17 year olds to keep within the wagecap.
I think it would benefit the game of football since it would be harder to buy success.
I know the NHL is a closed league with no promotion or relegation but still. Maybe ed001 or ed002 have some knowledge or opinion about this. Has it ever been discussed among the rulers of the game?

Troweller

{Ed001's Note - La Liga have imposed a wage cap, so it is possible.}

1.) 08 Jun 2023 21:34:00
They introduced a wage cap in Rugby League back in the day. One of the clubs in the north west signed a player from Australia and paid him all they could within the salary cap. They paid his wife about three times as much for an administrative role that, funnily enough, hadn’t existed before her husband signed for the club.

Obviously, Rugby League is just a small game compared to Football but the model stands. It might be a cynical view, it might not but as soon as you apply a salary cap other ways of attracting players will rise up. Sadly, it the nature of the “game” nowadays.

2.) 08 Jun 2023 22:28:08
It’s the way of most sport tbh wdw3 it’s rife in the f1 also
It’s a great idea but I’m afraid I think teams will get crafty and it will be normal service.

3.) 09 Jun 2023 01:52:52
Yeah agree Dhfc. Have to say I’m not the biggest fan of Messi as a person (from what I’ve read as I’ve never met the fella in real life) but I love that he appears to have turned the Saudi’s offer of €400m a year down. I know he’s probably just dodging one pile of tainted cash for another pile but it’s just nice to see their ‘we can get anything we want whenever we want it’ approach taking a bit of a kick in the nads.

4.) 09 Jun 2023 06:58:31
WDW no doubt ManCity will create a sponsorship deal for the new players family pet as the match day mascot - £200m a year sounds about right after all the cost of living has really affected pedigree chum these days….

5.) 09 Jun 2023 13:37:14
Some clubs in the Australian NRL's salary caps are referred to as salary sombreros.

All the discussions of taking the knee being relevant or not just got an answer from Paris. Clearly as relevant as ever.

1.) 09 Dec 2020 15:10:13
how? the person identified someone by saying 'the black person. ' I cannot see how that's wrong unless you want the word black removed from the dictionary. This is an incredibly slippery slope.

{Ed001's Note - again another who doesn't understand. The reason why there are N words that should not be used is because they are used in a derogatory fashion. They have been used that way for hundreds of years now and a match official appointed by UEFA is instructed in these things. There is no excuse. None of this nonsense about it is a Romanian word is acceptable because the officials are expressly instructed to ONLY use English while officiating in European football. This kind of instance is exactly why they are to only use English.}

2.) 09 Dec 2020 15:48:47
Imagine if the official said a derogatory term used to describe a person's sexuality or religion. Some people seem to be stuck firmly locked in idiot closet racist mode.

3.) 09 Dec 2020 16:56:57
Ed001 I think that's the issue. In the press they aren't writing the term used and its being implied that the official said 'its the black guy' whereas its the N term that caused the offence.

4.) 09 Dec 2020 16:57:38
The romanian official spoke in his native language. The word, black in Romanian is very similar to the offensive word, but it is not the offensive word.

I must admit, I have not listened to it, but I did read John Barnes having his bit today and he is on the side of the official.

{Ed001's Note - again, how many times do I have to stress this, they are not allowed to converse in their native tongue while on European duty. They all speak excellent English and there was no need for him to use any word that could possibly cause offence.}

5.) 09 Dec 2020 17:08:07
Ed1 - I do understand your point, but there is room for a discussion to say that the man needs to understand how it sounds.

At the champs league final in Madrid, my mate Ahmed (a black or Egyptian heritage) and I were having a beer with a Romanian before the game and we ended up having the same conversation. starting from WTF did you just say to - ok - just be aware, here is what it sounds like to us, so please be very aware.

Id hope officials are more aware, but hoping they are is not the same as them being aware.

{Ed001's Note - that is a completely different situation. Utterly unrelated. This is a man who is under instruction to speak English and suddenly it is claimed he is using his own language when the word is seen to be offensive. He knows he should be speaking English, why change language for this word? He didn't struggle to find a word and say it while trying to come up with the correct English word, he just used that one word.

What John Barnes is saying is nonsense because he is completely forgetting that officials are under instruction to speak only English to avoid any kind of misunderstanding.}

6.) 09 Dec 2020 17:24:51
Your point is valid if it is one word that he spoke in Romanian, not the whole sentence. As I say, I have not seen the video, only read bits today.

{Ed001's Note - even if it is the sentence, he is not to speak in Romanian while officiating to avoid misunderstandings. He knew that but still swapped to Romanian. At best he was trying to be sneaky about what he was saying, when the point is that everyone is supposed to use one language for transparency reasons. Everyone then knows what is going on. Instead he chose, at best, to hide what he was saying from other people. So there is a problem there no matter what.}

7.) 09 Dec 2020 18:04:12
Funny how this apparent 'cultural misunderstanding' hasn't happened before despite Romanian officials having reffed Champions League, Europa League and Euro and QC qualifiers for years.

Coincidence, I'm sure.

8.) 11 Dec 2020 15:59:39
The real question, redhead100, is would the official have identified another player in such a way. If this official was prepared to use a players skin colour to identify him then do we have a recording of him using ‘white’ to identify a different player.
If not, then any other discussion is redundant in my opinion.
Black football players and of course the wider black community have been subject to this treatment now for centuries and if walking off of the field of play is what it takes to change this then so be it in my humble opinion. I would rather see real change on a very important topic that extends far beyond the confines of a football stadium.

Ignorance is no longer an excuse, we all have a world of information at our fingertips.

9.) 11 Dec 2020 16:47:58
You simply cannot be allowed to address people by their skin color esp. black people. The history behind using that word is one of bigotry, discrimination, stigmatization and denigration of their existence. This is not hard to grasp YET many succeed in being incapable of grasping a simple historic concept.

Come on lads a bit of perspective, it's the worst performance under klopp by a country mile but throwing at first Adrian and Gomez under the bus and now shifting to Firmino. Yes they are bad tonight but has anyone played well? The whole team are shyte tonight but it's the same team that completely dominated Chelsea and Arsenal. It's the same team that ended the 30 year misery. The way I see it Everton will be paying for this next round. Let's try to have some perspective and show Klopp and the team that YNWA is not just when everything is hunky dory but in bad times aswell.

I think I have to blame corona virus, since Thiago and Mane tested positive may be all player are still afraid or shocked.
I think corona has contributed a lot to this game.

{Ed025's Note - it was just a bad day at the office mate...simple..

2.) 04 Oct 2020 21:31:53
Mane played Gomez missed one Alison played!
U can’t defend that 2nite the back line don’t have confidence in Adrian he’s a liability!

3.) 04 Oct 2020 21:39:11
Exactly ed025. I had mine last Friday, should have stayed in bed. Wrong colour mortar, angle grinder broke, gearbox gave up in the van, granite cut wrong, just one thing after the other. Liverpool fc had their stinker today. Onwards and upwards lads.

{Ed025's Note - we all have them days troweller mate..

Hiya fellow reds. I'm a long time lurker from Sweden going to Anfield for the first time to see the spuds match. It's my 50th celebration so was wondering if anyone could point me in the direction of some reds pubs with good Guinness?
Thanks to the eds for a fantastic site.

Troweller

{Ed033's Note - Surely you must mean Norway :)

1.) 21 Mar 2019 05:23:38
When I visited, the Cavern Club was very good but I don't drink guiness so not sure if they served it. Most places in the UK do though so I suspect they will. It's a really unique bar and a must see for tourists in my opinion.

{Ed001's Note - Ed025 is the man for this question. He has an encyclopedic knowledge of drinks and which bars serve them.}

2.) 21 Mar 2019 06:25:01
Well he's been an Everton fan for 96 years to be fair. That's a long time to be drowning your sorrows.

{Ed001's Note - what did he do for the other 5000 years is what I want to know?}

3.) 21 Mar 2019 07:27:28
There is no such thing as a good Guinness anywhere on mainland Britain, you want that get a flight over to Dublin the ay after the game.

4.) 21 Mar 2019 07:37:43
I told me he still remembers where he was and what he was doing the day the comet wiped out the dinosaurs. Some things are just unforgettable.

{Ed001's Note - isn't that how he arrived on earth in the first place?}

5.) 21 Mar 2019 07:42:47
The Philarmonic is my favourite pub and the favourite of John Lennon's, by all accounts.

6.) 21 Mar 2019 10:27:28
So what actually is the difference between this mythical Irish Guinness and the stuff the rest of us are able to drink? Is it still Guinness original over there still while we now get the Guinness draught stuff? Or, is it simply Guinness folklore?

I went to the Netherlands last year and after hearing for years that it’s different Heineken that we get compared to theirs, I found out that is nonsense. Cynicism tells me that its the same with Guinness and that its nought but a clever ‘come to Ireland’ marketing ploy. If someone could elaborate that would be great.

7.) 21 Mar 2019 11:17:21
I thought all Guinness was now brewed in Dublin and shipped, thus getting rid of the "crap Guinness" label. I also traveled to the Guinness family home for work and met one of them (forget the name now) .

8.) 21 Mar 2019 12:54:00
Guinness doesn’t travel well. Guinness bought in Ireland will be better. I don’t think other beers are affected as much ( apparently! )

9.) 21 Mar 2019 13:24:03
Try grab a granny night down the grafton 😂, jokes side o’Neil’s is a good pub always a good atmosphere, anywhere on Matthew street or concert square are usually the best pubs.

10.) 21 Mar 2019 13:30:07
I like Peter Kavanagh’s.

11.) 21 Mar 2019 13:56:56
Ed001. You’re on form today with your comments. I look forward to Ed025’s comebacks.

{Ed025's Note - ED01 thinks i drink too much g1, but i dont really these days, after the first 10 pints i spill most of it down my shirt mate.. :)

Well written MK. I'm still on the fence with Gomez and Matip. You made good points but i'm still afraid of Matips fitness, will he be there when needed?
