Ed2 earlier today on Euro page you listed us along with arsenal inter and juve as keen on mendy but haven't really seen him mentioned on here. I thought city were nailed on for him? . Is he an option if Robertson can't be done as you suggested we would now turn to him.

Updaduff

{Ed002's Note - Try the search engine.}

1.) 01 Jun 2017 02:32:03
Sessegnon, Tymon, Mendy, Robertson, Perreira were among the full backs LFC were looking at and had decided to go for Sessegnon but it didn't work out and they have decided to go for Robertson. Mendy was looked at but probably the price has put them off, and while I am in agreement with people who think LFC need to spend big to just keep up with the big guns, spending close to 50 million on Mendy is ridiculous and I am happy we are moving on from him.

2.) 01 Jun 2017 06:30:31
Why is it "ridiculous"?
Shouldn't we be looking at players to take club to next level? If, say, Mendy, VVD and Lemar (maybe for a combined £150m) be deemed to be such players, why would it be "ridiculous" to spend such money on each of them?

I suppose you believe there's some "cheaper" option elsewhere.
Isn't this sort of mentality the reason why Liverpool has consistently failed to hit next level? Instead of of bringing in 1 or 2 true, game-changing players, we opt for 4 or 5 more cause they "economical".

Haven't we had a high turnover of such players? The so called safe, economical spends?

No doubt Mendy would significantly address and bolster an area of HUGE weakness. Even he if was the ONLY signing made. we'd be majorly improved.

Yet it would be "ridiculous" paying £50m of that what it takes to get him.
If club deems him worthy at £50m or whatever, why is it a problem for fans?

If the club could and indeed signed Mbappe (£110m), Laporte (£70m) and Mendy (£70m), some will actually STILL be moaning.
"Too much for one player". "Too much for a defender". Even if these are signings that transform the team and take us next level.
They'd rather buy "six decent" players for that money.

Unbelievable.

3.) 01 Jun 2017 06:55:24
Way to go to bankrupt the club!

4.) 01 Jun 2017 06:55:42
What is unbelievable is the suggestion of spending £250m in one transfer window. Liverpool will also not be buying six decent players at £41m each for that money either.

Liverpool simply will not be able to afford £250m in one window along with entering the wage bill into the realms of no return. We already have one of the highest wage bills in the league with our current squad.

This is not Football Manager.

5.) 01 Jun 2017 08:42:32
"What is unbelievable is the suggestion of spending £250m in one transfer window. Liverpool will also not be buying six decent players at £41m each for that money either. "

Utter nonsense.
Where in that post do I suggest that Liverpool can/ cannot afford to spend 250m in one window?

Now lad. very slowly. read. and do so to UNDERSTAND. perhaps with a little less of the condescension.

I have no idea what Liverpool's plans are and what extent they willing to go or not go to follow thru with them. hence the "ifs" and "coulds" in my post. Hypothetical.

And frankly, you haven't the faintest clue either.
Liverpool may or may not pay £50m for 1 player this window.

Frankly, that was not the point.
The point was IF Liverpool deem Mendy worth £50m/ £70m and willing to pay, why would it be "ridiculous" to do so?

Because you "fans" say so? Because Max says so?

Liverpool likely won't spend £250m. just as it's highly unlikey-to-certain we won't be signing Mbappe, Mendy and Laporte.

6.) 01 Jun 2017 08:53:54
Some of you live in a fantasy world. Or have we managed to land ourselves some 'oil money' in the hours I have been asleep?
I agree that we need to spend the big bucks to keep up with city, Chelsea and united but we just don't have that money available to us. Therefore, astute buys and, importantly, world class coaching, will be what we need to set us apart from the rest.

7.) 01 Jun 2017 09:01:30
I'm slightly confused as to why everyone thinks Mendy is the solution we need he is being touted as being a very good player but has only has one decent season this year, and its not like Monaco don't leak goals they just outscore everyone usually thanks to there front line, He has only really come on this season but is he worth a 50 million pop? City can do that and then not care if he fails they can sell him on and buy the next fantasy signing, as a club Liverpool need to be signing players that are the right fit and have the right attitude for us I will back whoever comes through that door I do believe again next year the winner of the league will be a surprise again.

8.) 01 Jun 2017 10:40:06
Why is everyone so hung up on the cost of a player. The club won't pay more than they can afford. Money invested into transfers is for the club to worry about not is fans. Let's just back who we sign regardless of their transfer fee.

9.) 01 Jun 2017 10:49:46
It is ridiculous because they're not worth that much.

10.) 01 Jun 2017 12:03:09
Exactly Jackored.

End of the day, our opinions here have zero significance. If clube says fine with Keita at. £50m. that'll be that.

Leave those who handle the money to worry about it and suppor.

11.) 01 Jun 2017 12:06:15
Although I agree that the fees are ridiculous and completely way out of hand now that is the way the market seems to be going this summer at least anyway. Every player has their price and the only way that a player becomes 'worth' that amount is when the buying club and selling club agree on that price.

12.) 01 Jun 2017 13:03:09
Can't we just let people have their opinions - it's what football is about. You can argue a point in contrast, but there is no need for the attacks guys!

Hi ed01 if your around please tell me we will not be signing the ox. I know ed02 will say typical Liverpool fan slating potential signings but to me he is the epitome of what is wrong with English players and arsenals current crisis. He is part of a team which has downed tools for there manager whose achievements are up there with the best. This is exactly what I fear from creeping into our side as we lack the big driven character s needed to take us to the next step. Clubs are rewarding young English players and taking the hunger from dem by putting them on huge contracts when they haven't achieved anything eg lingard at united.

Updaduff

{Ed001's Note - I don't know of any interest in him, this is just paper talk as he is being linked with all and sundry due to not being good enough to hold down a place in that Arsenal side.}

1.) 13 Apr 2017 10:37:40
I think he would be a good signing, he's got versatility, pace and he has ran more than any other arsenal player this season if klopp can get him working like a Trojan I'd take ox, 35 million is abit daft though i give you that.

2.) 13 Apr 2017 17:42:53
Pace? He's not as quick as Mane and he's got little in the way intelligence on the ball and runs into blind alleys. Running around a lot and achieving nothing but injuries is great at Arsenal but not wanted here.

Hi ed01 would love your opinion on why we seem to price our unwanted players out of moves when we want rid of them . Am talking bout the likes of moreno sakho markovic who we don't want but in Moreno's case we want more for him than we will be willing to pay for his replacement Robertson. It makes no sense to me other than we seem to think we can bully clubs like Leipzig and saints into buying on our terms. In my view they are dead right looking for top dollar for keita and vvd as they are the best players at these clubs. I would expect no different if someone wanted couts or firmino but not our unwanted. We are messing up careers by sending them on stop off tours of Europe evry summer. If we want our targets pay the money or move on. Also lots of reports surfacing about Robertson but are we just settling for him as surely we could have had this negotiated already out of all our targets I would assume he would have been sorted quickly or have we offered a ridiculous low bid as usual.

Updaduff

{Ed001's Note - because we are a poorly run club still recovering from a lengthy period of mismanagement.}

1.) 29 Jun 2017 15:29:10
Is wanting the best price for players which are essentially club assets a bad thing? It would be shrewd business to try and recoup as much money for them as possible regardless of whether they are considered part of the future of the club.

{Ed001's Note - if we got the best price, it would, but we don't, so it is not.}

2.) 29 Jun 2017 15:45:05
Get rid take what we can and move on.

3.) 29 Jun 2017 21:43:42
I thought we did quite well last year with sales. Are we pricing players out of moves this year or just biding a little time. The window isn't even open.

18 Jun 2017 19:55:48
Hi ed01 or 02. Different sort of question and would appreciate your insight. Given the leaking of the vvd story in the media I was wondering how many people or at what level would know information regarding transfers. The players are they in the know. Sports science or admin or is it from higher up that information gets leaked. And if so I presume the club be unhappy about this or do they freely leak certain stuff to keep fans onside. The echo from months back seemed to know all our first choice targets. I saw vvd Sarah and Keita mentioned that didn't feature on sharkapods. Now obviously they could be guessing but coincidence. You both have your sources so you obviously know what goes on. Not wanting to know your sources are but interested in the level of knowledge that's out there. Also will the club be spending all there time working on the salah deal at present or would other negotiations be going on with other clubs for other targets.

Updaduff

{Ed002's Note - I have explained about Keita. Salah was not first choice and van Dijk was a surprise given what Klopp had previously said. Discussions with clubs go on all of the time. Agents are generally open to discussing players with people they know, particularly if you buy them a drink.}

1.) 19 Jun 2017 17:40:41
Fancy a drink ed002? 😍.

08 Jun 2017 08:11:00
Ed01 thank u for sharing what u know about the vvd deal. My question is this just the start of it. Just before the end of the season klopp made a statement saying how they had really positive talks with players / agents over transfers and how interested they were in the project. At the time it didn't sit well with me based on what happened last summer zielinski we were accused of tapping up along with goetze. This feels like arrogance to me. Do u think we have tapped up other players this summer. Is it why we have stepped back from salah. Also the arrogance spreads to people like carra and other itks on twitter who claim that every club does this. Is it commonplace are we just unlucky naive or not savvy enough that we keep being caught. Finally as soon as I saw the headline the other nite saying we had one the race for vvd I sniffed trouble. Southampton were never mentioned. It almost seemed like an out of contract player. The media really did disrespect there place in all this and I have every sympathy for the way they have been dismissed. So called fans up on arms over what they did to protect the integrity of there club. Imagine the reaction if it was coutinho and barca.

Updaduff

{Ed001's Note - yes I do feel we have done this with others this summer, I know for a fact that we have done it in the recent past.

It is less commonplace than it was, due to it being more difficult to hide these days. It does still go on, but that is really irrelevant to a club the size of Liverpool. We have the pull to convince players to join us without needing to be sneaky and underhand.}

1.) 08 Jun 2017 09:24:56
To be fair ed.

Going against city, united and chelsea for moneh terms is hard.

But if we can afford a player then get the bid accepted then convince him.

{Ed001's Note - but money is not the issue. If it is was then we would lose anyway.}

03 Jun 2017 09:41:45
Hi ed1 just wanted to know broadly speaking is this where we are in your opinion with regards transfers at moment. Rb - not close to anything at present. Cb - Vvd wants us, we want him something looks like it can be agreed with player but Southampton would look for convincing and a large transfer fee to sell. Lb - we wanted sess and mendy but look to have missed out on both for a variety of reasons. Tymon Robertson or both are of interest. Cm - keita is wanted but player and club need convincing so unlikely. Ox is being reported by many itks as close to done. I presume if we get ox it means no keita as essentially they play same favoured position and are similar style. Wing - salah looks like a deal could be done which leaves a striker possibly to be signed. I would be really happy with salah vvd and keita but all three will break our transfer record currently and the one major weaknesss we have is full backs and the lack of right sided links worries me as does the fact that I think again we will look to spend big on other parts of the team but refuse to pay the going rate for a decent left back. Isn't this what happened with chilwell last year. We wouldn't pay the asking price as it wasn't deemed worthy for a young full back.

Updaduff

{Ed001's Note - that sums it up fairly well mate.}

1.) 03 Jun 2017 10:25:39
If we can get Salah, VVD and Pereira (who can also play LB) I'd be very happy.

Solanke is enough for me at striker assuming Sturridge stays, and anyone else in midfield would be a pure bonus (especially given bringing in Salah means a Coutinho could drop deeper) .

If we went for someone in midfield though, I would rather it was a more defensive midfielder as both Hendo and Can can play further forward if required.

2.) 03 Jun 2017 11:28:12
Hendo shouldn't play further forward, he is good in the holding role, fit, strong, good passing range and defensive capabilities - his attacking game isn't as good anyway - lallana offers the pressing game that hendo would bring, with a little more trickery.

Ed25 bit of banter for ya. U have been on here a bit warning us to be worried about how you lot are going to overtake us etc due to the millions you have and you seem like an optimistic guy with Walsh and kidnap giving you hope but my word I would be worried by some of the rumours. Seems to be interest in Martino as a back up. Not going to move u forward in my view and u have after Trent the next best right back of that age in Kenny. Keeper wise Hart will not improve you . Pickford maybe slightly. Cb Williams and jag too slow funes mori no good. U ain't getting koulibaly or van dijk. Centre mid is where u guys are strong as I like guyue Davies and scnide. Barkley and lukaku look like going and although I don't believe either is world class they are best u have. Rooney will not come to sit on the bench and he's not top six standard any more. Deeney? . My point is it's going to be difficult to attract players to improve you enough without cl and all the teams above will strengthen as well. Plus if you lose lukakus goals you need someone to come in and hit the ground running. thoughts please.

Updaduff

{Ed025's Note - you make some good points updaduff but i never said it would be easy, what we do have is the building blocks in place to become successful, we have a proven DOF in steve walsh and a top manager in koeman who are backed by a billionaire owner in the form of farhad moshiri who all have the same goal to make everton great again, now i realize that FFP means this wont be achieved in one fell swoop and that the bigger players will be looking for CL football but its up to us to convince them to buy into this project, we have some great young players coming through as well and that bodes well for the future so all i can say is be afraid..be very afraid there is a sleeping giant being awoken in this city mate.. :)

1.) 29 May 2017 10:05:17
Personally hope Everton do really well. I'd rather Liverpool and Everton be in the top 4 than plastics from London.

Everton have a lot of good young players. Holgate, Davies, Lookman and Calvert-Lewin are a few good examples. Add that to Gueye and Williams who provide a bit of steel at the heart of the team, Coleman and Baines who are still one of the best sets of full/ wing backs in the league, and I think they have a good platform to challenge to break into the top 6 club this coming season.

Lukaku and Barkley are, in my opinion, vastly over rated. Lukaku is a flat track bully who just inflates his statistics with hoards of goals against weak teams. He will never win you a title because he goes missing in big games. Barkley is just massively over rated. He is always lucky to stay on the pitch when I see him play, thinks he is better than he is, and has very little to his game other than a good set piece/ final pass. He is a poor mans Ozil/ Fabregas. He never tries to turn a game in his teams favour because he expects others to do that for him. The difference is he is nowhere near as gifted as them, and he also loses his head when he gets isolated and starts trying to hurt people.

Everton have better players in their title winning u23's than Barkley, and for the money Lukaku will rake in he won't be hard to replace with a more complete player.

It will be tough to get into the top 6 now, but Everton are the only club with a chance of doing i and I hope they do.

{Ed025's Note - cheers MK, i reckon your right on ross but the goal tally from rom will make him very hard to replace, saying that over the years liverpool over the years have dealt with losing irreplaceable players like keegan, rush, torres and suarez and still moved on so it can be done mate..

2.) 29 May 2017 10:30:53
Well i have to say i hope they falter. Reality is that its hard enough to get into top 4 spots and the plastics from London or the teams from Manchester are not going to fade any time soon. So it might be a nice wee fantasy to have Liverpool and Everton ruling the roost like way back in the 80's but fact is it will make it more difficult for LFC if Everton ever do get their act together.

3.) 29 May 2017 10:34:12
Exactly Ed, strikers are generally one of the easiest positions to change. There are exceptions where it can take a few years to recover, but in general I'd rather lose my striker than my midfield general or my centre back rock.

Everyone lost their heads when we lost Owen, Torres and then Suarez. Yet last time I checked we were one of the top scoring teams last year because we have shuffled the pack and put in players who link up well and share the load. We had a dip the immediate seasons after Torres and Suarez but with all due respect to Lukaku, he is not in their league.

I genuinely could not tell you who Evertons first choice wide players were last season though. Koeman clearly didn't trust the senior players in his squad. However I think Lookman is ready now, and if you use the Lukaku money to get in a more complete striker and a decent wide forward to replace Mirallas, you will be a better overall team, even if their is nobody to score 25 goals on their own.

I'm with you mate. Exciting times ahead for Everton. Hopefully you can improve enough to go from being the second best team in Liverpool, to being the second best team in England ;)

{Ed025's Note - it would be great to get back to the heady days of the 80,s MK when this city ruled the domestic football scene mate..

4.) 29 May 2017 11:17:59
See what you're saying Rover, but if we focus on our own game we are good enough regardless.

5.) 29 May 2017 12:11:19
I think it's ironic that the FFP rules actually make it harder for teams to compete with the top clubs. Before they were introduced a club could get themselves a rich owner and dream of actually challenging for major honours - Chelsea the perfect example - and the required signings for such a challenge. Now, because of FFP, the clubs at the top making the most money are protected from this phenomenon which means only those clubs making a ton of money (clubs who are successful, in the CL - in the UK clubs who have already been benefiting from Sky money and CL money for many, many years) can offer the wages top players demand. I think it's sad that FFP is actually widening the gap rather than closing it - I understand why FFP was introduced but I honestly don't think it is actually help close the gap between the rich and the rest.

{Ed001's Note - why is it ironic? They were brought in to protect the top club's from exactly that sort of thing happening.}

6.) 29 May 2017 15:53:27
Haha so ffp protects top clubs from being challenged, but somehow they themselves find ways to circumnavigate the rules. Life is so fair. 😊.

7.) 29 May 2017 15:34:26
Ed025 personally I think everyone could do worse than look at iheanacho if you did get Rooney potentially I could see that as a decent partnership quite frankly do you have a preference out of possibilities to replace Barkley/ lukaku.

{Ed025's Note - i like iheanacho shane but im not sure he could do the job of a lone CF mate, my personal preference is for arnautovic of stoke who i feel with better service would do very well, i am indifferent about ross and dont mind one way or the other if he stays or goes as i think he is overrated, i would like sigurdsson myself and i know we are interested in him..

8.) 30 May 2017 14:07:39
The only thing I'd like to see with that crowd is relegation MK, but maybe living elsewhere gives you a different outlook, you don't have to live with them, worst fans in the league by a country mile.

Hi ed01 what do u think of Pickford for gk and Keane as cb would they have the charachtaristics we need. I would be shocked if we didn't add a cb considering our ongoing problems. I think Lucas and sakho will leave and Gomez should be allowed to leave on loan to the championship where he can play regularly as a first choice and develop. This would then relegate klavan to 4th choice and allow the other 2 to rotate with the extra games. Would love us to add that destroyer to our midfield as currently the players we have are very energetic but none of them are agressive. Ndidi and Kante are 2 best in Prem and keita looks good but unattainable as he scores goals as well.

Updaduff

{Ed001's Note - in the future Pickford, yes, but right now he does not look ready to me. He still makes too many silly mistakes, he is not the greatest at organising or with the ball at his feet. What he is, mainly, is an excellent shotstopper.

Keane is ok, but he plays on the right side and is very similar to Matip, when we require a left sided defender who is more aggressive.

What makes you claim Ndidi is one of the best in the Prem? He has played ten league games since joining in January, it is far too soon to judge him.}
