I just wanted to post here, and pay my respects to Luca Vialli.

He was a huge player for Chelsea, but actually ended up being a friend of mine after working with him about ten years ago. I very nearly managed to convince him to guest edit a while back on transfer deadline day on the main football rumours website.

Ed002, he wasn't just a great footballer, he was an even greater man.

Vagus

{Ed002's Note - yes Vialli was a very nice guy.}

The tribute to him from Sampdoria was great!
Cashmere shirt; I love it!

2.) 06 Jan 2023 19:31:03
So sad to hear of Luca’s death…far too young to leave his loved ones.

{Ed025's Note - absolutely Tommy..

3.) 06 Jan 2023 19:43:52
Has something happened to him?

{Ed025's Note - he passed away aged 58 flash. Very sad..

4.) 06 Jan 2023 20:21:06
My missus dragged me along to a U2 concert at Earls Court (I loathe Bono, for what it’s worth) and Vialli was sat in the row in front of us with two very lovely looking ladies. I think he bagged himself a brace that evening. He came across as very friendly and chatted to anyone who stopped him.

An absolute legend, a huge loss and 58 is no age. Rest in peace.

5.) 06 Jan 2023 20:53:43
Ah that's horrendous news. Same age as me, brings a lot of perspective to things. I admired him as a player immensely, but I knew he was an extremely popular figure with all that knew him.
I've just seen Graeme Souness's response, that sums it up for me.
RIP Luca, ashinig light gone far too soon.

6.) 06 Jan 2023 21:05:29
RIP Gianluca. My favourite Chelsea manager. Always struck me as a gent.

{Ed002's Note - He was a lovely man.}

7.) 06 Jan 2023 23:11:54
VVVV I hope she let you have your way with her after making you sit through a U2 concert. Hell can't be as bad as that.

8.) 07 Jan 2023 01:10:46
VVVV's wife said to him "I'm going With Or Without You".

The Sampdoria shirt from Vialli's time is iconic. One of the best ever, for me.
Not a bad side either with some real characters. Vialli, Mancini, Lombardo and the defender whose name I can say but can't sell Viercho.
Souness and Trevor Francis played for them, too.

9.) 07 Jan 2023 01:21:05
Liam Brady and David Platt (not the one off of Coronation Street), too.
I forgot about Platt and he used to get on my nerves by embracing the Italian lifestyle too much; the pretentious git. I remember him giving an interview about pasta with his jumper over his shoulders like Ken Barlow (the one off of Coronation Street) .
Liam Brady liked chips and that's how we earned his nickname. He was some player, was Chippy Brady.

{Ed001's Note - when Souness joined Sampdoria, he replaced Liam Brady. The first time they faced each other in Italy, Brady was getting really nervous before the game as Souness kept looking at him and growling. They got out on the pitch and the first time Brady got the ball Souness went through him and booted him right up in the air. Then snarled something about how he was going to kill him. Brady was a bit confused what was wrong so he went and asked one of the other Samp players. Turned out that Souness had also taken Brady's house when he got there, but Brady had taken everything, including the lightbulbs and Souness had arrived at night and had to move in to the house in the pitch dark. According to Brady, he spent the rest of the game running away from Souness!}

I couldn't SPELL not sell Vierchowod. Thanks, Google.
Only short but he could shift.

Maybe I'm pushing the boat out, and he hasn't played any football this year, but I always thought Isco was a relable midfielder. Would he not be an option Ed?

£198.3m as of May 2021 - the last accounts published, and now nearly two 1.5 years old. Swiss Ramble breaks everything down here on Twitter

Accounts to June 2021 to June 2022 accounts will be published in March, which will see a significant increase in revenue due to the booking of the new shirt deal with Nike, and increased commercial revenue.

Doesn't mean we can spend like there's no tomorrow, but debt will be slightly lower as the cash position increased.

I don't mean to be one to correct you, Ed002:

{Ed002's Note - I have explained why. Liverpool did not have the money to do anything other than make staged payments. }

Liverpool could have increased the loan from the owners, or used the revolving credit facility didn't wish to deficit spend in financial year heavily impacted by disruption form C.V.. They were one of the only clubs not to deficit spend during the season, unlike Manchester City or even Chelsea.

They also won't this season after the full impact of C.V. hits in the second year of accounts affected by it. Add to that, the low initial fees of Jota and Thiago, and there's already a sizable cash outlay for this season.

Fans do need to understand, though, that all these contract renewals and first professional contracts cost money, and what the club has to spend will be impacted by the associated costs.

Renewed contracts are considered important for the likes of Alisson, Fabinho, Virgil van Dijk, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Andy Robertson and Mohamed Salah. Income received for broadcasting deffered to the following accounting period will help with this, but I'd suggest that these renewals are more important than transfers, to protect the value of these players.

Based on its last few financials financials, I would expect after the purchase of Konate, Liverpool probably has a transfer budget remaining of around £90m. Transfer budgets are never worked out on fees though, and include wages. agent costs, etc. The benefit Liverpool has here, is wages should reduce this season by around 10-12m, due to lesser performance incentives - meaning it can easily stick to both Premier League an FFP rules on wage increase limits.

One interesting stat, is the two seasons Liverpool spend bit on Wages and Transfers, they one trophies. Granted, the one before they came as close as one point from winning the league, but after spending just short of £30m last season (net), it didn't work out as well. Pay as you play, indeed.

I don't expect to see us spend £200m, and I'd be worried if we did, but I expect we have a little more than people think. Next season is when I expect us to spend.

Vagus

{Ed002's Note - You are missing the point. The club needs to work towards balancing the bookd and stop accumulating debt. You are making it up about transfer budgets.}

....

{Ed002's Note - We are not going to post your rubbish - you don’t seem keen on what Liverpool will be declaring in the accounts for Coutinho - and seemingly have zero grasp of the situation at the club at all.}

Ed002 - I' now highly confident that you don't know your eggs when it comes to Liverpool's finances. The intention isn't to buy the league - just to compete given better commercial performance, and consecutive champions league qualifications. Last year's figures, when released later this year show a large profit, in part due to the Coutinho sale, but also, a sizeable sale of players, bookable in that financial period.

The investment for this season is higher, but it's nowhere near the heights of City and Chelsea way back when. When accounting for inflation, Liverpool are nowhere near those two clubs in terms of outlay - and the debt is manageable, and not much higher than last seasons finances.

I seem to remember Chelsea buying the league a few years back, and since they stopped spending, they haven't amounted to much. Funny that.

Vagus

{Ed002's Note - You moronic posts about finances are embarrassing. Please tell me how much money will be shown in last years figures for the sale of Coutinho? Why do you keep mentioning other clubs who don't even appear in the list of the most debt ridden clubs - it is embarrassing. It think you will find Chelsea might have done OK in recent years - this sort of trash makes you look particularly stupid. Liverpool are the fifth most debt rifden club in World football from the latest figures submitted, and the growth rate is the second highest year on year.}
