Hi Ed001,

From the look of recent matches, what is your take as regards the like of Curtis Jones, Ramsey and co against staking a claim next season. Is it better they get more matches under their belt away from the club and then come back to prove their worth?
Your analysis will be much appreciated and who do you think aside the young Spaniard that can break into the first 11 next season.

{Ed001's Note - if the squad is trimmed down as it should be, they would be better off staying. If not they will need to go on loan to get a chance of a run of games. For me I am not sure any are ready other than Doak, but a few months is a long time at youth level as they can grow so much. Also you only really know if they are ready by throwing them in and seeing.}

Agree with Ed's comment here. It would be hard to believe but our first team squad is actually much bigger than City's. It doesn't seem that way because City have 16/ 17 good quality outfield players and then some kids. Whereas we have a first XI and then kids, but in between is an endless pile of dross contributing nothing.

2.) 05 Apr 2023 13:05:04
Personally Doak should be getting some game time now
Up the pool.

Hello Van Dijk,

You are very brave to use that poster name with regard to his current drop in form, i admire your fortitude.

Was that Joneses audition last night that for me he failed, i once had high hopes for him my present view is he needs to be culled also during the summer rebuild as he has reached his level and has no more talent available to improve, besides having umpteen chances in the past when not injured which was sadly frequently, along with numerous others!

Isn't football a funny game we have not won any of our last four games, and Everton have not lost any of their last four games.

Hi Eds,

I think it is becoming obvious that we need a reshuffling. Especially the front three. Luis diaz will kick on from next season and I have a good feeling about the young lad Fabio. I think it is time to inject in some new blood in the middle of the pack, Tchouameni should be bought regardless of price, he has the potential to become one of the best midfielder in the future. Then there's Mane who have been linked with Bayern. I think we should take the cash coming in as much as we can get and go for either a gnabry or bowen type of player. We need unpredictability as we had when Salah just arrived.
TAA needs to work on his positional play as most times Konate was doing his bid, and he wasn't that effective with his crosses in the final third.
Looking forward to pre-season, with Elliot fully integrated and Fabio.

I don't see how people are blaming Trent so much. Okay, he didn't cover himself in glory for the goal, byt generally he had a good defensive game. I rather felt that both their big chances (the offside goal, and the actual one) came from robbo's end when he was high. People need to realise this is how our full backs play, and they will get exposed sometimes.
On the other hand, Trent looked the most likely attacker to make something happen. He was the only one getting into good positions and making those threatening passes.
And calm down people. Playing all 63 games in a season and coming as close as possible to the quadruple is no mean feat. People saying we need to change, just because we lost the final is almost laughable. Every team needs to evolve but that doesn't mean you rip up the template that served you so well in the whole season.
Up the reds!

2.) 29 May 2022 07:20:24
I didn’t blame Trent for the goal nor Robbo. Robbo went to press and they played thru it and VVD goes on the cover. Pretty simple stuff cos we do that all the time. IMO, Trent was playing the offside line cos that’s the way he is coached to do it. Viny came thru from deep and was onside by centimeters. On another day, he is offside. Those are the margins.

That said, we created the chances to outright win the gale despite Carlo doing a Lampard but Courtois played a blinder and had a ton of luck as well. Their whole team got lucky cos they were dire to watch. Just my take.

3.) 29 May 2022 08:07:31
Trent should have looked over his shoulder and always be aware of what’s behind him. Basic defending. Loss was more down to the strikers not firing though than the defence.

4.) 29 May 2022 08:19:49
Our finishing stunk the place out. Shooting straight at or too close to Courtois made him look world class.
Mo’s revenge comment will come back to haunt. He should have buried the chance where Courtois was out of position and racing across goal but he bottled it. A braver forward would have scored and taken the hit à la Diaz at Brighton.
Thiago didn’t stick his head out when any contact would have made it a goal.
Hendo struck it beautifully but about 7 yards wide.
Keita wtf was that.
Why cannot Trent shoot from distance and not keep the ball down and then cross and not beat the first man. Mind boggling. Our delivery was inconsistent last night.
Felt like it was a match made for Firmino and it showed when he came in. I feel the first half would have been so much different with him on the pitch.
I think mental tiredness crept in during the latter stages. When are we going to learn not to clumsily touch/ lean/ foul a player in the last 10 minutes? We consistently do it in tight matches. I know it’s tension but that is schoolboy stuff and so frustrating.
Hard defeat to take because Madrid were ripe for the taking.

Hi Eds,

I will like to ask what do you guys think of Taremi of Porto? Do you think he will suit klopp's system? And what position can he pickup if bought?
Looking forward to a spectacular Champions League night tomorrow regardless of 'No Fans'.

Van Dijk

{Ed001's Note - never seen him play, sorry.}

1.) 14 Apr 2021 07:43:07
Hey, what’s up, Virgil. How is your recovery going? Will you play again this season? What’s your fav color? Oh my gosh, I have so many questions to ask you. Pls, send me a signed LFC shirt with your name on the back? Pretty-please?

2.) 14 Apr 2021 18:51:46
He’s about 28. No value there atall. He’s just not very good. Scored a good goal the other night which is probably why you mentioned him, but yeah, a couple of levels below even shaqiri.

Hi Ed001,

I would like to ask, what do you think about the youngster Homes who will be available on a free transfer. Do you think he is someone capable of being moulded into something unique like others at Liverpool?
Also based on the current financial constraints, has their being any update of transfers in and out or is just about waiting for the season to end before we see a possible move.
YNWA Champions of England, Europe, World!

Van Dijk

{Ed001's Note - I am sorry I have no idea what you are talking about. I guess it must be an autocorrect issue or something, because I don't know who 'youngster Homes' is.}

1.) 29 Jun 2020 12:05:28
He means Gomes from Man U.

2.) 29 Jun 2020 12:02:51
I think he means Angel Gomes from United.

{Ed001's Note - oh ok yeah that makes sense. No interest from us that I am aware of, but I don't see him as suited to us anyway.}

3.) 29 Jun 2020 14:57:52
With the ridiculous prices nowadays I prefer we buy young and let klopp and the coaches nurture them. I'd hate to see anyone come in and stop Brewster, Elliott and Jones's progress.

Hi Ed01,

I would like to ask, is there someone that isn't linked to is, that we could be targeting? What do you think of the Atlanta team in Italy. Is there any player that can improve or add quality to to our current crop? Do you feel any of Mane or Salah, will be fine by summer?
Thanks in advance ed

YNWA.

Van Dijk

{Ed001's Note - 1. How can I answer that? I don't know who is being linked to us and who isn't. I don't look at stuff to know, but it always seemed like everyone in the world was being linked by someone to us so I very much doubt there is anyone that isn't linked to us, let alone that we could be targeting.

2. Very good team, I said a long time back Everton should have hired Gasperini and I still think that is the route they should have gone down each time since. He is getting the most out of that squad. That Gosens always impresses me when I get to watch him.

3. Will be fine? I am not sure what you are asking there sorry. If you mean sold, I would doubt it, they are at their peak so would cost an enormous fee. Who could afford them that wants them? Zidane would love to sign Mane, but it is unlikely he will still be in charge at Madrid by the summer.}

1.) 01 Mar 2020 21:05:46
Ed02, I fully agree with you on Gasperini killing it with Atalanta right now. He is adept at getting the best out of players at modest clubs cos he was in charge of Genoa back in the day and they were just as good. Thiago Motta re-made his name there before joining Inter with Jose.

I do wonder whether the main reason he has not gotten a better job was that his reputation flopped massively after the failed at Inter when he got hired off the back of his heroics at Genoa. Now, it could be that he failed cos Inter has been a basket case for a decade since Mou left them and was not given time BUT that is just my view.

{Ed001's Note - I don't know whether to be insulted or not that you called me Ed002!?!}

2.) 02 Mar 2020 07:13:06
I totally agree ed1 that guy Gosens looks to be a really good player but that whole Atalanta side plays well most of the time regardless of who is playingbin the team and who they are playing against.

Also you say it is unlikely Zidane will still be in charge of Real Madrid by the summer so may I who are they looking at and more importantly why are they looking at maybe getting rid of him seeing that they are top of the league. I do know they haven't been at their best but the side is still almost the same as 2_3 yrs ago with most of their new signings constantly getting injured.

Cheers
Have a good day.

{Ed001's Note - I am not sure who will be replacing him, it is more of a personality clash than anything that is the issue, though it doesn't help that the football is dire to watch under Zidane and he is in danger of going out of the Champions League. Madrid managers get judged on European performances, not really La Liga. Zidane would not be the first to win the league and lose his job because he didn't win the Champions League.}

Are we looking for an established midfielder like Saul/ Bissouma or an potential top player in the game in years to come like Camavinga?
What do you think?

YNWA.

Van Dijk

{Ed002's Note - Camavinga is not moving to Liverpool. Liverpool cannot afford Bissouma without taking on considerable debt and Saul's wages would be an issue.}

Could we be looking to making a move on him during the summer transfer window and who do you think he can usurp in the team or is it just a case of increasing the squad depth?

Van Dijk

{Ed002's Note - I cannot sensibly predict the timing of transfers. There will be interest in Liverpool players in the summer - Real Madrid may look to Sadio Mane for example and perhaps he would provide a suitable replacement if he were to leave. But my expectation is that Liverpool will look to hang on to their three primary attacking players and perhaps refine the depth - and the problem with the higher-end or higher-cost players is that they want to be in the starting line-up. Certainly Barcelona will have him available for sale or possibly trade in the summer.}

I feel this season will be really tough and the mistake have been made. Many unavailable, injury prone and aged players in the team.
Mancity replaced what they let go off, we bought a solution without the necessary equipment to utilise it.
Klopp is also to take the blame with his reluctance not to get atleast two midfielders and a utility player in.
We are in a battle for top four as it stands and this is just October. We are not even sure of sealing a game. There's a need to go back to the basis which means defending and klopp should change that formation.
We don't have the right players for it anymore.

I have a feeling that if liverpool as a Club or Klopp wanted a midfielder, they would have gotten someone in now, all they are doing is to play along until the transfer deadline is gone and then they will come out and say they tried their best but they couldn't bring anyone in before the deadline. Consolation: Players who are injured are now returning to full fitness and ready to go.
Klopp is never a deadline day person when it comes to player transfer.
I guess we have rounded off, our signings with what we have in and maybe Philipps might push to go back on loan.

Thanks for your response Ed01.
What do you think of Hwang-Hee chan of Salzburg. It seems Klopp love some other players in that squad.
What do you think of him as a player and will he fit our system.
Is he any different to what we already have?

{Ed001's Note - lots of pace but absolutely no end product and not good enough technique for my liking.}

I couldn't agree more with your take on the game. It might seem difficult from a point but for the return leg to be in front of the fans, is the best time to react. We were the better side all through and yet tasted defeat. We need to continue to push and let's see what the end of the season holds. Regardless of the end, this is a BIG STEP forward for the club and we are two to three players short of matching MAN CITY.

couldn't agree more Para-red. We need to be at our full support in recent years to spur us to the FINAL. Is it doable yes, can we overcome three goals yes, We need to be at full voice, just like the first leg against Man City last season's quarter final. I have never experienced such an atmosphere before. it is WOW.
