Really interesting piece in the independent yesterday claiming that Segura, Barca's general manager made it his personal mission to sign Couts after FSG embarrassed him. They offered him the job of Dof only for Rodgers to say he wouldn't work with one. Segura turned up for his first day and was told by Rodgers. After trying to contact FSG he couldn't get in touch and resigned on the spot. Just shows and insight again into how amateur we are in terms of being a business. Any eds got any more info on this?

{Ed002's Note - It is unimportant.}

No one cares what Segura or BR have to say about things concerning LFC. They are both part of our history and should stay there.

Fair enough haha cheers ed.

I think if the Couts rumour is true then he's gone. Klopp has shown he doesn't take this sort of behaviour. To have this leak come out 30 minutes after the manager has stated in his press conference the player is not for sale, after the owners have released their statement is shocking. He's made the club, Klopp and the fans who came out to voice their support. Very naive in my opinion. If it's a lie then even more reason to keep hold of him and stick one to Barca.

Hey Eds, can I just ask how players like Richarlison get a work permit to play for Watford when he doesn't have that many international caps and players like Allan can't. Is it simply Allan hasn't played enough first team games? I know there is a points based system but it seems a bit wishy washy.

WirralRed

{Ed002's Note - It is indeed a surprise as other sides walked away from him because of the work permit situation - but Watford need to make a special case.}

1.) 08 Aug 2017 18:06:55
Mad considering they can't even get one of the stars of u20 world cup penaranda for Venezuela a work permit who is more highly thought of.

Hey Eds, been a while since I posted. I was just watching a few videos of potential liverpool targets and it got me thinking about how managers decide of players, specifically at Liverpool. I understand scouts will be working alongside coaching staff to target players in key areas etc, but take Luan for example (who is hard to go and watch play for the manager) would the discussions between the scouts and Jurgen Klopp revolve around stats? Or will they have their own clips of him? etc. It would just interest me to know how those conversations go.

Cheers as always!

WirralRed

{Ed002's Note - He will be watched by scouts - for many years Liverpool had a South American scout on a full time basis but he has now gone.}

1.) 26 May 2017 11:45:25
Thanks for the quick reply Ed, but what will his report to the coaching staff be like? A few pages about him, some general notes and his stats? or will it be a lot more in-depth about his playing style, the type of players he needs around him etc?

{Ed001's Note - it really depends on the scout. Though clubs are now moving towards a single-style for all scouting reports which the FA now use as the basis of their scouting qualifications. You base it on four areas which have totally gone out of my head even though I have my level 1. I think, off the top of my head, it was technical, tactical, social and something else, but I might be wrong. Sorry my mind has gone completely blank on this.

It is more based on how he plays and how he acts than stats. Stats are for the analysts to consider, scouts look at the player himself.}

2.) 26 May 2017 12:27:19
Nothing to do with YouTube videos then? That would rule out 95% of the scouts on this site hahaha.

3.) 26 May 2017 14:50:58
Thank you for that reply Ed001! I think I'll have to look into it, seems quite interesting (to a degree) . Be interested to know what makes a good scout, whether is a natural eye for a player. Obviously some clubs seem to be better at it that others!

{Ed001's Note - you can get your level 1 in scouting on the FA's website for free mate.}

4.) 26 May 2017 15:44:01
Natural eye always is ane always will be.

You need the degree to get the job but the eye to make anything with it.

Thats why the majority on here all ask for rubbish players to be signed because they don't have a clue wbag an actual good player is.

Love and hate watching games like that, was standing for the last 20 minutes but that's why we love football! Really enjoying watching a commanding Liverpool play again. Something negative I did see just because of ed001's comments about it last week is minoglet putting defenders under pressure from his awful passing. Yes they're the ones giving it away but they shouldn't be receiving it when they do. He hasn't been playing poorly but I think if Karius comes in and proves to be a steady GK it could really change how our back 4 play.

WirralRed

1.) 17 Sep 2016 03:36:31
He did it again all game. Mingo just doesn't survey the pitch or his defenders before passing to them hence, they seem surprised when they receive the ball because there are players on top of them already.

Ed002. I just want to know who within the club sanctioned these flights for VDV and meetings? Surely, if as you say other clubs view us badly, the owners need to put in an action plan? An internal enquiry needs to happen into why this is allowed to happen within the club and how to change our image to other clubs. If Klopp is a culprit, (although I am a big fan of his) he needs to be cautioned by the club and prevented from acting this way again.

I see you criticising the club a lot but haven't offered any solutions? What can be done? I think this is a much bigger issue which could likely affect our transfer dealings for the next few years if clubs don't want to deal with us.

I understand Michael Edwards has been put in place, but he is not a solution to the wider problem. We need to start acting professionally otherwise that is what is going to keep us falling behind in coming years, not a lack of money.

WirralRed

{Ed002's Note - I am not going to get in to details like that but when asked Quite a while back I suggested a six point plan that gave proposed solutions to resolve a number of issues, but certainly the club must now look to end any illegal activity conducted by club representatives or the manager. By all means talk with agents but get out of this situation that has already resulted in one ban.}

"Midtable Wage Structure" Are you serious? Our wage bill is around £200 million. That is in the top 10 of world football. Juventus have a wage bill of £181 million, Atletico Madrid £86 million and Spurs £120 million. You should really start doing your research before you start spouting rubbish. The fact is we have been mugged off in the past with high wages, agent fee's etc. The club needs to get this under control.

Like has been said previously by others, I don't want a high wage culture at the club where every player is looking over their shoulder at how much their team mates are getting paid. Pay competitively but not stupidly.

I understand they're not the players he wants but I'm hard pushed to think of better players we could sign than firmino and coutinho in their positions given our 8th place finish and lack of champions league football. With no one knowing who's coming or going that can't be good for the mentality of the squad? You could have a stormer of a preseason and start to the season but you're all off if the right price comes in?

You're making me worried Ed001! I feel as though if Allen, Lucas, Markovic, Milner and/ or Lallana left I'd be happier with the current business. Why is everyone up for sale ed? Seems another season of transition ahead. I feel a lot more confident this season but it seems like every year we make the same mistakes.

WirralRed

{Ed001's Note - because they are not the players Klopp wants.}

I understand the club behaves irresponsibly. It makes me think slightly differently about klopp so thanks for bringing it up Ed002, but you don’t half sound like a miserable old man these days. Been on this site for about 6 years now an this is maybe my second post. I felt I had to write something because your contempt for Klopp and Liverpool is getting really boring. I know you have to deal with idiot fans all day everyday but you’re the editor and this is a banter page. You don’t have to constantly remind us how awful our club is all the time and how shimmy we are financially when we’re finally in a decent position for the first time in however long. Cheers for all the hard work Ed002 but maybe give yourself a break now and again. Not sure if this will get posted but I had to say something to you pal. The internet is full of idiots let them be water off a ducks back.

WirralRed

{Ed002's Note - I have contempt for all cheats. If you don't like the truth perhaps you need to find somewhere else - the Fat Kid from Bolton is still seen as the best source of Liverpool transfer information by many of the people here.}

I personally think Meyer is the type of midfielder that would be a great option. I think between Klopp and Buvac they would be able to mould him into a great versatile CM, Number 6 to swap with Henderson or push forward to play a CAM role. Sadly from what is being reported in Germany and now here, he is going to Arsenal today. Obviously it is purely guess work for me to suggest the type of player he'd become under Klopp, but at 22 and with his range of positions, I think he could grow with keita and form a good partnership. Considering Can will most probably leave and Milner over the hill by next season.

Is the club that are in for Allison PSG Ed? By you saying dependent on another club I'm assuming their position/ spending power would make them the players preferred destination? I know you haven't sat down and had a coffee with him to ask like. or maybe you have. Flat White kind of man, Latte or?

WirralRed

{Ed002's Note - Yes, PSG do have an interest and poentially Real Madid may do if things don't go their way in the summer.}

So would you add any one Ed001, if Coutinho did leave. I. e. A Striker, CAM, CM or do you believe we should focus on defence as we have enough creativity and fire power? I think we do need to strengthen our defence but I think if Couts leaves we will be seriously missing something in our attack that will be hard to replace. Most goals scored from outside the box since he's been in the prem, that's hard to replace in tough games.

WirralRed

{Ed001's Note - I would add a midfielder, we will need to defo if Can does not sign a new contract.}
