Ed001, I want your opinion about the former Bolton and Nigerian player, J. J Okocha. Do you rate him? and do you feel he was underrated during his playing time? Was very surprise he never won the African player of the year at least once. And if you could have him as a LFC player, would you like him on the team?
Cheers for your time.

{Ed001's Note - he never won African player of the year? I never knew that, I had assumed he did at some point. He was an excellent player, very skilful and made Bolton under Sam watchable, which took some doing.

As a Liverpool player I am not so sure, during the Hodgson or Souness era yes, but he was not at the level of our best players.}

Ed01 as someone who knew and watched Jay Jay Okocha (So good, they named him twice", Martin Tyler) from beginning to end of his career, I can tell you that he is a living legend in Nigeria as part of the the Golden Generation of the Negerian teams in the 90's. His sheer brilliance, talent and raw skill did not warrant the type of club career (Frankfurt, Fernebache, Bolton) one with such talent deserved. Jay Jay did sign for PSG as the record signing in French league history in 1998.

Also, Okocha played in an era where there was a lot of racism in the way big European clubs recruited African players as they were already considered inferior to their counterparts w/ o sometimes even looking deeper and evaluating them. Ronaldinho who played with Okocha at PSG still revers him till this day as the best player he has ever seen.

George Weah suffered the same issue in France but was able to rise above that by working on his game tirelessly and arguably redefining the CF position (the first CF to drop deep and pick up the ball and run at a defence with pace, power and superb dribbling ability) and sign for the great AC Milan after Marco Van Basten retired (arguably the best CF to ever play the game) . He is revered at Milan till this day.

Had the likes of Jay Jay and and Weah played in this era of overrated dross, they would be ridiculing all these poor defenders alive for fun cos Weah went against legends like Nesta, Carnavaro, Maldini, Baresi and the like.

{Ed001's Note - I know he was good, but I think you overrate him, as he was lacking in the discipline needed to follow the kind of instructions players get nowadays. Allardyce changed the way they play to allow him to just have freedom. Skill is great, but you have to have the mentality to use it to its fullest and he was not top rank in that regard, unlike Weah. A lot of what Okocha did (in a way similar to Ronaldinho in that regards) was ineffective and was more for the sake of it than because it was needed. Reminds me of White Men Can't Jump, that quote about wanting to look good first, win second. Okocha was one of those for me.}

You are correct about his lack of discipline and that may be one of the reasons why he did not have a more fruitful club career. That much, I must admit. He was a crowd pleaser and that does not fly in European football esp. in this area of micro management. Good convo, Ed.

{Ed001's Note - cheers Bing.}

Ed001.Do you still expect coutinho to leave today considering we could not get the lemar deal over the line?

akinwalexykopite

{Ed001's Note - I don't know mate, it now seems unlikely that he would go as we haven't replaced him but it is in Klopp's hands. He is the one that will make the decision. In my opinion I don't think he will let him go without a replacement. It is his decision, so I can't say for sure, only he will know for sure.}

1.) 01 Sep 2017 08:08:27
I want Cou out like the next guy as well but it would be dumb to sell him w/ o a replacement and I don't think Klopp will be dumb enough to do that except he thinks we can cope without him. I hope we keep him cos we simply don't know how we will cope w/ o him BUT we know what we get from him when he plays. We shall see.

2.) 01 Sep 2017 10:21:28
Out of interest is there any suggestion that what happens with him will impact on Firminho?

{Ed001's Note - no, don't worry.}

Ed001, want to know, if truly sanchez does not want to join Liverpool, we would have ended our interest by now and not be locked in negotiations with his agent. Thanks

{Ed001's Note - no one knows if he wants to join or even if we are willing to accept him in part exchange anyway.}

Ed, can you give your personal view on betrand and do you think he will fit in the way we play. for me, I won't judge him until I see how he does in a red shirt. first time poster but a long time reader. cheers

akinwalexykopite

{Ed002's Note - He is a decent player well thought of within the game. He has played for England at all levels and is well thought of by Rodgers.}

Oh Mane…we just sold Shaqiri, that is a non-HG spot opened and I don’t think we will be registering Karius. So a spot to register isn’t a problem, it’s all about financial package for signing.

Should we consider Arda turan, Rafinha and Gomes or the three for Coutinho Kewell Aussies? We can't just go to a team and dump players we don't need for their key player.

It's always a long summer for LFC fans because we tend to believe every rumour we hear or read about from the media.

Yeah…take off Bruno and Pogba from Manchester United midfield and what happen?
Guess it’s only a one way thing… only Liverpool can have two of their first team midfielders out.
