There is now report from spain that Ancelotti contacted LFC about the manager job rather than vice versa, FDB admits without shame that he wants the job and all the informal messages from Klopp's friends indicatedahe is interested as well. People here often wonders why would top managers want to come to Liverpool. I agree it is a bit surprising but apperantly the name LFC still mean soemthing to top managers.

There are now also some reports in Italy (the Italian publication Calciomercatoweb) that LFC approached Ancelotti's representatives. I have to say it all doesn't sound very concrete and in any case, even if true, doesn't sound short term thing. I will believe it when I see it.

Hi Eds, if we do bring Torres back as more and more papers report do you think it will be instead of Baloteli?

fanobip

{Ed001's Note - as far as I am aware, the papers report lies...}

Eds we are a week before the begining of a one month (i.e. not very long) window. I assume by now the club executives have to know at least who are we willing to release and for how much(?)

Would it be reasonable to assume that from the guys who are in the rotation we are willing to sell Lucas (I reckon it will in the region of 10M?) and Baloteli if we can get something that is not too far from what we paid for him?Anyone else? And any of those who are not in the rotation (Borini, Susu etc) all are for sale if anyone is willing to pay something for them?

Also I assume that our number-one target in terms of buying is an affordable but proven keeper, and a striker if we sell Baloteli, but nothing else unless an unbeliveable bargain comes at our door?

As a side note I said already in the summer that Yedlin for 5-6 million was a fantastic deal for Spurs and I think it will prove to be a great signing now that we can start play for them.

fanobip

{Ed002's Note - This has all been done to death, but to refresh memories: Lucas' representatives are already talking with Inter Milan about a move. I have no idea if it will happen in January. The financially expectations Liverpool have for Balotelli are well beyond what anyone will pay. Borini wants to stay and what interest there is would likely only be for a loan. Suso will be talking to other clubs about the packages they will be offering him for a summer move. The goalkeepers the club has been looking to are, aside from John Ruddy, those who would be available when there contracts expire in the summer or a player who is already out of contract.}

Hi eds
Can you try and explain why has the Moreno deal got stuck after being for so long imminent? Is it the fee or (as I suspect) the player not that keen to come? Or maybe his club was never in it seriously (in that case why has the negotation went for so long) - also is this now officially dead or are we conisdering raising our offer?
Also, same questions for Bony (surely he would prefer us to Spurs with CL football and even without - so it must be the fee?) is this one dead and burried for us?

fanobip

{Ed002's Note - I explained last weekend what Liverpool's most recent offer was. Maybe they will go back with another variation. I also explained previously why Chelsea stepped back from the deal they agreed. I don't want to keep going over the same thing.}

Congrats to Liverpool and everyone here, I wasn't here for long time (moved to facebook) but thought I would just come back to say what nice end fo season it was. Now let's hope Ajax can do the job. YNWA.

Brilliant result and brilliant performanced yesterdsy across the board. Big shout out particularly to our defence yesterday. My only criticism is Matip who was amazing otherwise, in Costa's goal. In particular him sliding with his hands behind the back in order not to hit the ball with his hands. I was always very much against this hands behind the back of defenders. Not sure who started it but it really limits the movement. I hope Klopp tell him and the others to drop it. I prefer thevsmall risk of hand ball.

What a signing Joel Matip was. It's no wonder Schalke did their utmost to keep him.
Commanding, assured, composed. and he seems to have adjusted to the speed of the Premier League really quickly. Every player makes mistakes occasionally, but if he continues to play like he is, we've got a great CB for many years to come. He's still only young.
And it's great news that he doesn't seem to want to go to the African Nations Cup in January.
Great signing from Klopp.

Very good performance, very good result, great four goals. There are still a lot of things to work on. I still think we can and should be even more clinical, and us playing from the back makes me nervous every time we have the ball in our half. Not a criticism, actually a reason for optimism if we have still a lot to work on and we come out from the game with 4:1.

Just one personal request to Klopp - don't start Sturridge on the bench next game. I know he didn't score today and should have twice, but he still gets to these positions and will surely score them next time. He also gave a fantastic assist to Firmino's first and great pass to Wijdn' who assisted Lallana. And Firmino and mane gets much more freedom when he is on the pitch.

I admit I was one of the Lallana on the bench guys because everything he did until this week was so non clinical but the clinical penny has dropped somehow.

Studge actually played the way Klopp wants and was pressing and moving them around very effectively. He didn't have to drop deep to pick up the ball. I've always said that if Studge plays the way Klopp wants, he will start because he, Firmino and Mane looked a mighty tasty trio today.

I may not get this right, but do we play Barcelona on Sat at home and then fly to Germany and play there the next day? And all this a week before our first game of the season? Assuming we play a strong team against Barcelona I assume it will be mainlythe academy kids against the Germans?

1.) 03 Aug 2016 11:11:45
We'll have 2 diff squads, one that will travel while the other remains. Should be interesting.

2.) 03 Aug 2016 11:53:07
Barcelona to Germany is like an hours flight I'm sure the team will manage. They must spend more traveling to some away games on a coach in England.

3.) 03 Aug 2016 14:01:08
Two teams will be used, just like Wigan used two teams against us and Utd this pre-season.

4.) 03 Aug 2016 14:42:17
Thought the Barcelona game was at Wembley, not at home . and its on Sky, so I hope we put in a good performance, not expecting to win, not with you know who in goal and at Left Back, but a good solid team effort, and just hope that one of our strikers score, always like to see them bang one in, also think they need a goal too before we meet the Gunners .

I wonder what Ed002 has to say about that - if I remember correctly he is big fan of the guy and thought he would have been our number 1 target last year.

why keeping Manquillo? One of our worst signings and at least we can send him back to his club

Great to see United sinking again. City are a league of their own though. I don't see anyone getting even close to them.

In any case I would prefer them in the top 4 over any of the Manchesters, Chelsea and Arsenal, as long as we get 6 points against them. But very early days.

Yes, I also think Henderson is likely to get an early red card.

A bit of a myth. Someone found a streak of games he played in with better results then before but it didn't last for that long. He played in most of the last 10 games in 2014-2015 season when we were really poor including those 5 goals we conceded from Stoke if i remember correctly. Not his fault necessarily but there arrcalso limits to how much he could claim sole owenership of our wins.

fanobip

{Ed001's Note - it is not a myth nor is it a 'streak of games', it was over his entire Liverpool career. Not as much of an improvement as Xabi Alonso, who has made a major improvement to each team he played for.}
