Mane out for six weeks.

1.) 03 Apr 2017 22:48:22
Results aren't expected until tomorrow. Nice try though.

2.) 03 Apr 2017 23:06:38
Take it you're on the medical team seeing as he's not had his scan yet. anyway maybe put TAA in his position as he's pretty pacey wouldn't upset the team dynamic too much. Hopefully Manè is back sooner.

3.) 03 Apr 2017 23:22:08
Not good news. Luckily Coutinho seems to be getting back to his best and LFC have hit some form too. We need to get on with it.

4.) 03 Apr 2017 23:29:39
Mane had a scan yesterday. Swelling could not provide definite answer as such fears are that he will be out of commission for >6 weeks; devastating for our top 4 ambitions.

5.) 04 Apr 2017 00:06:54
Praying for a speedy recovery. He was massively missed during the AFCON.

6.) 04 Apr 2017 01:53:34
lol just insert some dude who is pacey and the team dynamic won't be upset too much. #fifalogic.

7.) 04 Apr 2017 14:05:51
We haven't won a game when he hasn't started so this could be a tricky time. I don't see anyone else in the squad who can step up and give us what he brings.

8.) 04 Apr 2017 23:05:48
We're going through some staffing change and the most common thing people say is "oh they'll be big shoes to fill". I'm like maaaan c'mon, we got to bring in someone new to do their best at what they are good at and my job is to set the conditions so they can be successful. If we just want to bring someone in to try and be Mane then its no wonder we have suffered without him. Klopp will have to tinker and adjust the tactics and the established players will have to adjust on the pitch accordingly. If they constantly look up field hoping for a flying senegalese bullet in disguise as origi or TAA or woodburn, then we can expect a hard time. Play to people's strengths man!

I was supposed to be there but had to cancel because my wife is ill.
What a performance.
Yes Spartak we're awful but every time this season we've trounced a team I've thought "we won won but they were awful". It can't be a coincidence. We destroy Southampton, then they destroy Everton next game. We are making teams look awful.
Who knows where we'd be in the league if Mane hadn't been sent off against City.
Imagine if we had Hyppia! We'd be walking everything.
Great performance and roll on Sunday!

{Ed0333's Note - Hope your wife feels better mate

1.) 07 Dec 2017 01:17:26
Liverpool made them look awful. We don't just pounce on mistakes, we force them from our opposition. Spartak are not a poor team, they have some real talent there but our fab four are too good, better to watch than city a lot of the time. I was impressed with klavan again and really impressed with alberto. He cried at being substituted and that has endeared him to myself, good lad, love his desire and commitment. I swear I thought I saw Emre Can thinking, after the 7th, I could be making a huge mistake walking away from this group.

I thought Gini was fantastic, without Hendo, he stitched the play up nicely with Emre but he has that ability to keep the ball under pressure and find the right pass too. Great player. I'd like to see gomes in that cb role more often, why not? .

People can't keep saying that we only won 7 0 because the opposition were kak, it's the second team we have done it to in the UCL, the elite tournament in the world really. We are doing everyone with big scores, we have to because these days at 3 0 it feels like 1 0 and we could cave at any moment. Defence were class tonight though, Klavan does seem to be growing as a player, finding a bit of confidence and form at the right time, well played.

one very happy red.

2.) 07 Dec 2017 08:31:39
Superred, I like your assessment esp. of the defence cos Klavan like it or not, is getting it done at CB. He is not a world beater and none asks him to be. He is physical, committed and strong in the challenge. The whole back 5 were solid last night and that can only bode well for their confidence.

Also, we simply can't win with some people. We tonk a team in a high pressure game 7-0, they say we only beat them cos they are poor which is patently false cos Spartak are Russian champs. and stomped on Sevilla 5-1. We don't beat them and they say we are crap. Can't lie with 'em, can't live w/ o 'em. On to Everton.

Hi Eds, sorry to ask another question about Van Dijk but considering the business we've done with Southampton in the past couple of years why did it turn into such a mess?
We've signed Clyne, Lovren, Lallana etc. Surely we had a good relationship with them?
Apologies if you've already answered this and double apologies if you decide not to answer.
Love your work.

{Ed001's Note - because we have not built up a good relationship with them, quite the opposite as we have been heavyhanded and forceful. VVD isn't the first player to cause friction between the two, in fact the only amicable deal was the Ricky Lambert one.}

1.) 29 Aug 2017 14:12:47
Wow! Did not know that.
So if it was already bad then Klopp has made it much worse.
Thanks for the reply.

2.) 29 Aug 2017 14:14:16
So the club thinks just because we have bullied them in the past and it didn't matter then we can continue to bully them.
I hope that some real lessons have been learned this year regarding transfers, although as it still seems likely we will still buy VVD and Keita is signing The club might just think "oh well, we got what we wanted, business as usual"

23 Apr 2017 19:34:37
How we lost that game i don't know.
Under no pressure at all from Palace.
It just beggars belief.
Two Lovren mistakes (doing his best impression of Klavan) and we get punished for both mistakes.
Just imagine if we had a half decent defence!
We'd have walked the Premier League this season!

1.) 23 Apr 2017 19:46:09
Not just defence though. The attack was pretty toothless when it came to final ball and getting into positions to exploit and midfield gave the ball away a lot. Overall it was a poor performance. That could and should have been 2-2 at worst and really 3-2 or 4-2 was viable. Plenty if possession just inability to get the final ball in when Palace were playing more openly and inability to break them down when they were more defensive. Even with 7 mins extra it never seemed like a shot on target was coming never mind a goal.

2.) 23 Apr 2017 21:35:30
Erm can was at fault on one of them.

Shouls of stayed with benteke on corner.

3.) 23 Apr 2017 21:52:31
That was my BIGGEST frustration. CP were of NO danger to us BUT yet aging, no desire, guile and poor-decision making in the final third, killed us again. One shot on target in a must win game at home, is pathetic and a joke. We just screwed ourselves out of 3 points today and we have no one else to blame but ourselves. However, NOTHING will be decided until the end of the season and top 4 is going to go down to the last game. What I hope for is that we are in control of our own destiny by the time that day comes.

4.) 24 Apr 2017 01:14:31
Zonal marking if your nannmoves to another players zone he takes him so lovren was at fault. True can shouldve done more but once benteke moved lovren should take benteke lovren looked at him then ball watched under 12s mistakes!

5.) 24 Apr 2017 06:53:59
It seemed to be more than just a zonal marking problem. No common sense and no communication. The first line which would have had the 6 yard bix all dropped deep when their widest man dropped deep. That may be the idea to keep a line, if so it isn't a great one. As soon as that happened that goal became possible. Can saw Bentwke's run and clearly thought about acting then stopped. The problem is clearly Lovren didn't realise the run hapoened so he didn't adjust and Can didn't see that just staying in his zone was wrong so he didn't adjust. Zonal marking isn't about just stand in the same place and thinking players, the type the team doesn't have, wouldn't have all dropped deeper like sheep and wouldn't have decided that's not my zone so not my job. That emphasised all the problems in one move, lack of thought and lack of leadership and strength to step out of line and say I need to do something different here.

06 Apr 2017 13:26:36
Considering Everton's recent form
I'd have taken 4 points from the Bournemouth and Everton games.
It is slightly worrying threadbare the squad seems.
I'd love to see him try Grujic and Woodburn.
And no more of this back five.
Why Alexander Arnold (good enough to replace mane in the derby) was not brought on instead of Matip I'll never know.
Do you think the wound from 4-3 has not healed and he was desperate to cling onto the lead?

1.) 06 Apr 2017 13:47:05
Flidby, that is my issue. Cots had to come off cos he was sick. Can't blame Klopp there. But I just feel putting Matip on that early sent a signal sayin to B'mouth that "We will no longer attack you" and could have sent on TAA for example. BUT I see why Klopp did it cos he wanted to protect the full backs cos Ryan Fraser had just come on and we all know the pace he possesses. I do not fault Klopp's thinking cos I understand it. My problem is that all in all regardless of the changes, players individually HACE to be accountable in critical game situations and Klavan bottled it and did not even challenge King for the goal at the 86th min. Can't blame Klopp for that, can you? We take the point, one more point over City and we move on.

2.) 06 Apr 2017 14:23:31
N Red, yes we move on, but first and second place is now gone, Man City have an easy run, these injuries, small quality squad, iffy subs, its now 3rd 4th and 5th place we are fighting for .

3.) 06 Apr 2017 14:56:45
Red, I agree that 2nd may be gone cos Spurs are showing no signs of slowing down. But 3rd and 4th are up for grabs. City have an easier run in BUT they still have to play and compete in these games like we do. Also on the bright side, REGARDLESS of all our issues since Jan, we are still 3rd and have gotten 11 from the past 15 points on show. itcould easily have been 15 out of 15 BUT football doesn't always work out that way, does it? . We keep going and focus on us and us alone cos if we win all our games, we will get CL footie. Arsenal have tougher games than us so they won't win all their games and Utd? No chance. It's up to us and us alone, IMO. We go again!

4.) 06 Apr 2017 15:06:53
Got to blame Klopp a little.
Ed01 is right. If Matip is fit enough for the bench then he plays.
Doesn't make any sense bringing him on at 60 minutes.
Yes Coutinho was sick but bring someone on who'll be an attacking threat.
The possession stats at 60 minutes for the second half were 80-20 in our favour.
We were in complete control.
By bringing on Matip it showed he doesn't trust Klavan and Lovren.
If that's the case then bring one of them off.
But I love Klopp and he's a breath of fresh air.
He took responsibility which is so rare for managers.
Thank God we haven't got Koeman who was "proud" of Everton's performance at the weekend!
It's just a shame we couldn't see the game out.
Considering how awful we were in January it's a miracle we're in third.
Just imagine if we'd have had an even half decent january?
We'd still be going to 1st.

5.) 06 Apr 2017 17:19:07
I couldn't catch the game live, but I too was shocked when I saw Matip on the bench, I'd love to know the thinking there as Ed001 said if he was fit enough for the bench he was fit enough to start.

I haven't seen enough of the game to comment on the tactical tweaks he made to the team.

6.) 06 Apr 2017 17:38:41
a good offence is a good defence. when we start relying on just our defence, then its obvious we are just inviting trouble. klavan was a joke.

7.) 06 Apr 2017 18:25:47
Wiseryan, Klopp took your own advice and we got exposed and lost this same game 4-3 and Klopp was laughtered for not shutting up shop. he has been shutting up shop ever since and we have goteen wins vs Burnley, Boro, Stoke, Everton, City Arsenal and Spurs. So the one time that it did not work, you are now saying he should have done the same thing he got slaughtered for. Hindsight is pointless here. he tried what had been working and it didn't due to individual errors, that's it. Hopefully, this is an isolated situation and we can improve vs Stoke.

8.) 06 Apr 2017 18:26:19
Flidby, It's easy to blame Klopp on the face of it w/ o knowing the thinking and reasons behind the decisions he made, which are more than valid. He is an honorable man so will take responsibility cos he knows how football management works.

I was as shocked as you when Matip first, did not start and second, came on that early. That was until I read his post game comments and tho I don't agree with Matip being the player to come on, I understand the reasons why he picked him to come on (and it had nothing to do with Lovren nor Klavan) . He made a judgement call on Matip not to start and that was a good call. Had Matip started and made a mistake or got injured more, many would be slating Klopp for playing him. See how that works? Damned if you do, damned if you don't. That's the life of a manager.

As Ed said, the change did NOT alter our way of playing as B'mouth didn't have a sniff for 21 mins after Matip came on. It was due to an individual error on Klavan's part that caused the goal. Surely, you can't blame Klopp for this error or is he going to come on the pitch to defend for him? Players have to take responsibility sometimes and be accountable. On we go to Stoke, my friend.

9.) 06 Apr 2017 19:27:36
I think Stewart on the bench would have given Klopp an option to bring on a central midfielder. where as he didn't trust anyone on the bench to do a job defensively.

10.) 06 Apr 2017 19:42:16
We go again, but its still strange, when winning at home 2 1
having something like 80/ 20 possession that when an attacking player comes off, do you put on a centre half .

11.) 07 Apr 2017 09:21:25
Klopps tactics worked. Matip came on obviously our attacking game was not as good then but Bournemouth had no real opportunities. Can't fault them having a throw in, in our half that happens, it was defended quite well by lovren as well but no matter what your tactics if you're big strong cb loses completely where the ball is in the 6 yard box and then gets turned without putting in a tackle then what can you do? You can't account for that as if klavan does his job the ball is cleared we win 2-1 and klopps done a great job.

12.) 07 Apr 2017 16:14:07
Spot on, Shanek BUT you know, if hindsight was the requirement for being a genius, there would be no imbeciles in this world.

05 Apr 2017 16:07:36
I'm such a big fan of Grujic. I can see him becoming a mainstay of our midfield for years to come.
Question for the Eds,
As Grujic has been injured for most of the season does that mean his work permit is safe?
Also how do the authorities monitor this? If someone was bought wasn't ready for the first team but needed to play for work permit reasons what stops a team from just saying that he's injured?

{Ed002's Note - When he has been fit Klopp has not played him - but it is rare for WPs to be withdrawn.}

1.) 05 Apr 2017 17:01:32
If I remember grujic said we se the best of him next season.

It's going to be another bonkers season.
And on the plus side, Mane (if we don't appeal) will miss 3 games that are against weaker opposition.
