Navas is impressive so far. Are we looking to sign him or was that just a rumor?

j4stone

{Ed002's Note - Levante goalkeeper Keylor Navas is an option for Napoli and Atletico Madrid. Additionally, Marseille, Wigan and Everton have shown interest in the player in recent months, but the strong interest from Milan has now gone. I am aware that Liverpool had the player watched earlier in the year, but a move to simply sit on the bench at Liverpool is not at all likely - he would want commitments about playing time. Levante would like to keep him but it might be difficult.}

Mata is obviously not happy. Has Liverpool shown any interest? Why not make a bid?

I thought Newcastle deserved the win. Can was a big miss for us, in my opinion. Once we learn how to grind out and win games like this watch out.

okay, this is going to upset some people, but here it goes. I'm more interested in what the Eds think. I do agree that Lallana COULD (emphasis on could) become a superstar under this system. I do agree that the fans need to lower expectations for this season. Top 4 this year? I'm not so sure. Maybe next year. Klopp is brilliant and I believe will become as close to a legend as one can become these days. Football has changed. The days of a manager working his entire career at a club are over. Klopp will leave after his contract is up more than likely. This is a rebuild and this is going to be a process. Some hard decisions are going to have to be made. I do agree with those who say that Sturridge should be sold. He is unreliable. I don't agree that we use that money for immediate return in January. I also agree that we should cash in on Coutinho while we can. I, personally, believe Lallana will be much more effective under Klopp's system. Sell whomever we can afford to sell now and use those funds to buy one or two impact players during the summer. In order to become a more balanced and competitive club we have to build and develop the youth system and suppliment with purchases here and there. It should be up to the manager to determine who those purchases should be. If we blow our load (sorry) on one player, for example, Reus, fine, but understand that any reinforcements have to come from the youth system. What we need right now is continuity. The past two years we have thrown away money mindlesssly at players we really didn't need and essentially have had brand new teams. These days of instant gratification have adversely affected the way the club should do business. I do believe that we can once again become the giants of European football that we once were, but it will take patience and there has to be a process. I have to believe that Klopp laid out a 4 year plan to the owners showeing how to get Liverpool back to the top (he alluded to that when he said that in 4 years we would have a title) . However, to the fans that think it will happen this year is naive and unfair. We can do this without buying the most expensive players in Europe. It isn't about buying the best players in the world, it is about finding the right players for the system, something Rodgers couldn't figure out.

Ye selling our two best players is surely the best way to go forwad. I am amazed of people who want to get rid of Coutinho. Other than Suarez we weren't able to bring a decent players in the last 5 year maybe more. Even players that were good in other teams can't find their best form with us. We sold our best player in the last two summers and see where it got us. Couts and Sturridge are the only two players in our forward game who are both very good and suits our style. Your fantasy about Lallana is nice but has nothing to be based on. He is ok but in his age he will not suddenly become a top player just because Klopp is around. If we can get 25 games from Sturridge a season in all competitions I am happy with that. Benteke as a first striker and he plays when he is fit. Who will buy him anyway?

And I hate this word cash in. We are not here for the business but to win games. Chelsea, City Arsenal don;t cash in on players. They keep them and win.

2.) 24 Oct 2015 21:38:21
I agree with what you are saying in principle mate. We all need to be patient and realise that a new system takes time to implement. I have to say I actually thought our squad was stronger than it actually is. The last few weeks have shown how far away we are. a couple of injuries and we look toothless but with benteke back and studge soon we should see a difference. Give the team time and don't expect miracles lads. People always want instant gratification but it's a process. I think the problem is that us fans have been waiting so long. YNWA.

3.) 24 Oct 2015 22:03:48
Not sure selling 2 of our best players (coutinho and studge) is the way to get success.

4.) 24 Oct 2015 22:22:07
If klopp can get the big money signings to gell we could compete with anyone. A fluid attacking trio of firminho, couts and lallana all scoring 10 to 15 plus 20 goals from benteke and the occasionally fit sturridge between them. That's a title challenging side. If one of those 3 can't contribute at least 10 goals a season then i think we should sell them because we won't ever score enough goals to be where we want to be.

5.) 25 Oct 2015 00:02:12
Eds, any of you, would you please give your opinion on my post and tell me where I may be going wrong? I really believe that Rodgers bought in a panic and didn't really think about what we really needed to suppliment and make the team better. I beleive he bought for buying sake without a plan or strategy and ended up screwing himself; he bought without thinking of the big picture instead of maybe saving back some money for what we really needed and using some from the under 21, to fill in where we needed. Where am I going wrong? I appreciate the feedback.

Lallana has a great first touch and fantastic skill but I think he is 2 yards too slow at the moment.

7.) 25 Oct 2015 07:41:41
Agree with Bod.

8.) 25 Oct 2015 07:57:01
Lallana does an awful lot of running. That's great, but at the end of the day, you have to play to your strengths. And running speed is not his strength.

Perhaps Klopp could change him to a Silva type of player - one who relies on technique, intelligent movement and releasing the ball quickly to runners. Letting the ball do the work. I think Lallana has the ability to learn that kind of role.

9.) 25 Oct 2015 11:04:13
Haven't we learnt that selling our best players and replacing them hasn't worked at all yet - sorry but lallana isn't near coutinho in terms of that ability and why would you sell someone younger who is better and has ability to be a great? Lallana works hard and could be good but he slows the game down unfortunately - speed kills and if you want 3 or 4 touches before letting that killer pass go then that killer pass becomes 10 times more difficult.

10.) 25 Oct 2015 13:23:50
Spot on, Cialbray!

I know Ed 002 will rail me, but I wonder what Ed001 will think. there is no one who will convince me that Carra should not be involved in the club in some capacity be it an advisor, assistant, whatever. Why in the world the club would look to Bob Bradley for advice is beyond me. Why not talk to someone who lives and breathes Liverpool? This one quote today from Carra speaks volumes to me. "At this moment the owners of the football club's track record in making decisions for Liverpool Football Club over the last two or three years has not been good enough. It's miles off." I completely understand getting another opinion from Bradley, but it is people like Carra who know what it takes to be successful at LFC. Henry mentioned that no one has ever spoken to Carra about LFC. For the life of me I can't understand why. This man spent his entire career at LFC and played under Rodgers. Who better to talk to for advice than he? Please tell me where am I wrong? I'm not being cynical with my last question, I'm serious. Why am I wrong? Get Carra, KK, Fowler, Rush, Barnes together and figure out what it takes to get LFC back on track as the best club in the world.

Benteke's finish was pure class. Imagine how many he would have had today if he were match fit. Ojo is going to be a star.

1.) 02 Aug 2015 18:26:09
Sensational goal but why do you think he is not match fit? He has been training all summer. Ojo has a long way to go, I cannot see based on what you can say he will be a star. His goal was pure luck. I have to say Markovich looked a bit lost. I cannot eblieve we paid 20M for him. He needs to be loaned I think.

2.) 02 Aug 2015 18:38:43
I totally agree with Markovic, he is talented but he has looked lost, i think after last season just made him devoid on confidence hasn't settled as well, i don't know what he's like in training or anything in terms of attitude but i think a loan would suit him.

If he were sold in January, I wouldn't buy anyone until the summer and give some of the youngsters a run. We have a lot of untapped talent.

I thought Lallana played well too, but for me it was Can. Amazing what putting players in the correct position will do for their confidence and contribution to the game.
