It's seems like the media might be slowly changing their minds about Karius, same with the fans too.
I'm sure as hard as players try to ignore the media and the fans it's pretty hard not to. Hopefully this increasing support will give him a boost of confidence and improve him as a player. I also hope he continues to avoid making a big mistake in the near future just because, frustratingly, I think that could swing everyone against him again.

He's certainly playing better than I expected him to. The biggest compliment I can give him is that I no longer feel a new keeper is essential this summer.

2.) 06 Mar 2018 17:20:30
Let's keep things in perspective. Karius has had a good run of games helped by a more settled back four. VVD has given some needed calm and balance at the back. A new gk in the Summer is absolutely our biggest priority.

3.) 06 Mar 2018 17:37:49
Happy Karius getting run off games and listen there is nothing more than all us Liverpool fans want and wish for us too be proved wrong by a player with there performances, lately Karius has been playing well as has back 4 in all honesty so hopefully may this continue! Only player in back 4 I feel has been little suspect is Matip hope he can raise his game in coming weeks but I as I’m sure many at this moment agree back 4 off Karius, TAA, Lovren, VVD, Robin picks itself at this moment.

4.) 06 Mar 2018 19:42:15
His real test will be when he let's a goal in that costs us points. We know how fickle the media and some fans are.

Look how much they are raving about us as a team now. A few months ago we were nowhere near good enough and almost all pundits asked to pick the finishing top 4 ruled Liverpool out 1st.

I was wondering what people's opinions were of Jack Butland (preferably someone who's seen him play regularly)?

Second question, would you be happy to have him at Liverpool (I guess that largely ties in to any answer to the first) .

I Honestly don't think Jack Butland is the answer to anything, unless the question is which GK should we avoid?! I've seen him flap at crosses just like Mignolet, let's weak shots past him like Mignolet and because he is English will cost around 3.5 times more than what he is actually worth! And did i mention he is very injury prone for a GK? If we sign him a lot of people will get a shock of just how average he has become after all the injuries. I remember when we were signing Mignolet i wanted us to stay well clear, and Butland is in the same boat for me. We should go for a real nr.1 Handanovic, Alisson, even both Burnley keepers (Heaton and Pope) are better than Butland.

2.) 16 Jan 2018 10:16:35
Average goal keeper. I have no idea why he is rated so highly. He is weak on crosses, his handling is atrocious, his decision making is comical, and he always tries to make his saves look spectacular so he concedes too many corners and is never set to launch a quick break. He is the reason why Stoke are the worst team in Europe at conceding set pieces, because he constantly gives them away cheaply and then flaps at them afterwards. I'll admit that he is very good at making the flying saves, and he is also very vocal. His kicking is also decent to be fair. He is in no way, shape, or form an upgrade on Karius though.

If we are looking at keepers within the Premier league then i see it as this;

De Gea - world class. Best in the league. No chance.

Ederson - over rated. Good kicker and sweeper keeper but poor in other areas. No chance anyway.

Lloris - most complete keeper in the league, in that he is good at everything. However he makes a lot of mistakes. I'm not sure he would be realistic as PSG and Real Madrid might seriously consider him.

Courtois - best in the league in terms of handling and commanding his area, but has other weaknesses particularly on stopping low shots. Another Real Madrid might want.

Cech - best organiser in the league, but losing his agility and reflexes. No point in signing him unless it is to be as the experienced back up.

Pickford - decent young keeper, but very dodgy on crosses and too ambitious in his distribution at times which has cost Everton some cheap goals. Very vocal though. Everton to sell to us? No chance.

Pope - the best keeper in the league outside of Courtois, De Gea and Lloris. Great on crosses, vocal, great shot stopper, decent off his line although Burnley sit deep, good kicking. Unspectacular but very reliable and a good all rounder.

Hart, Forster, Foster etc - Hahahaha

Personally I'd look beyond the Premier League, but if we want a player from within it, i can't look past Nick Pope. Already lives in the North West, still young, and is a realistic target.

3.) 16 Jan 2018 10:26:21
Havent seen much of him at stoke but I went to a lot of games when he was at Birmingham and he looked as though he was destined for the top. Hope his injuries don't get in his way as he had a few now. I wouldn't mind him as I think he still maybe has potential to get even better.

4.) 16 Jan 2018 10:37:56
Pope will be second choice at Burnley when Heaton is back fit and no body has mentioned him. Made his England breakthrough. Good keeper. To be honest I would look at Handanovic (the younger) very good and attainable I would expect. Alisson seems to be flavor of the month at the moment. I am guessing PSG will fight hard for him.

5.) 16 Jan 2018 11:03:48
If Burnley drop Pope for Heaton, when he's back fit, Sean Dyche will severely drop in my estimation. Heaton is weak with crosses and his kicking. Don't get me wrong, Heaton was a good keeper but he's been injured a long time, and Pope has performed better than Heaton ever has in his career. Dyche doesn't strike me as a weak minded fool though, like most managers. If he thinks Pope is better, he will stick with him. He'd be mad not to after the season he's having. He was very good in his last year at Charlton as well, a club at which he actually played with Joe Gomez. Why on earth would you drop a younger, better player just to pander to one of your favourites? Dyche is better than that.

Poor since his injury.

GKs often struggle to come back from long injury lay offs.
Rated him highly before injury.

Hi eds happy new year to everyone involved on the site (one of my resolutions is to get more involved in the discussions on here as I've been a regular visitor for years now, just very very rarely post)

Was just wondering if anyone could shed some light on how Woodburn is being seen to be progressing this year. I'm hoping the reason he isn't playing much is just because the first team are playing well and we have much more depth this year going forward. Thank you greatly!

joe.l

{Ed001's Note - you have answered your own question. The strength in depth has increased which is why he is not featuring as much, though he did make the bench yesterday.}

1.) 02 Jan 2018 12:28:52
Ed 01 are they still looking at the option of loaning him out this window.

{Ed001's Note - if the right team is an option for him then yes.}

2.) 02 Jan 2018 12:30:52
Thanks for the swift reply. I’d figured as much just wondered if the reason could have been that he wasn’t progressing as much as hoped.

{Ed001's Note - no mate, he is still doing well, which is why he was the one on the bench, rather than someone else.}

3.) 02 Jan 2018 12:49:30
Got a bright future that lad, can't wait to see more of him. Speaking of youngsters, does anybody know how Ojo is getting on?

4.) 02 Jan 2018 13:17:31
That's the reason I asked Salah. Hopefully having a few more first team options now will be good though and will mean there is less pressure on him personally when he does play. Hopefully people don't expect him to play like Zidane as soon as he breaks into the team.

I think you’re all missing the point. It’s up to Mignolet where he chooses to go. If he decides to go to Barcelona that’s up to him and all you’re doing is second guessing his reasons why. He’ll have his own reason for going to the team he does (if he does leave), there’s no way we can know for sure what they are.

Shaqiri is clearly an incredibly talented footballer. Big concerns over his personality and willingness to put the team before himself. However, I'm fully behind Klopp if he thinks he can get him working for the team.
Does seem a strange one though as Klopp often highlights how important the personality of a signing is each time we sign a new player.

Anonymush, Meyer has been playing deeper this season and has apparently excelled in that position. So he could be that contingency in case Henderson was out or allow Henderson to move slightly further forward alongside Keita!

Rabiot is a Liverpool fan too.

"I would love to play in the Premier League, not necessarily one club in particular, even though I was very fond of Liverpool when I was young, "

Personally I wouldn’t change Karius, Lovren or Van Dijk. I think they can probably manage all three games and it would be good for them to start developing that relationship. At full back if Clyne and Moreno are fit I’d bring them both in, Trent and Robbo probably need a rest. Henderson should play in midfield as he won’t play the 2nd leg and id play him with Wijnaldum and Milner. With the view to playing Can Ox and Milner in the 2nd leg. Then up top id be tempted to rest two of the front three and play Solanke, Ings and Mane?

Unlucky for Ings that Firmino is so good. He deserved a goal in the 10 minutes he was on against Watford. I also hope he gets some more game time at some point, he works so hard and looks like he has some quality about him.

Agree with WelshScouse Ed. The articles you write are easily amongst the best I read.

{Ed001's Note - thank you very much joe. I really do appreciate that.}
