Do we have any interest in a creative defensive midfielder? I feel if we continue to play with 3 number 10s behind a lone striker we need service to them. Lucas, Henderson and can whilst solid players do not supply enough quality.
What I'd give for a young Alonso in that position now.

kopitetrevor

{Ed002's Note - I am not entirely sure what a "creative defensive midfielder" is Trevor. One who paints or does needlework? Clearly the club are looking to bring in Grujic - young and won't be around to next season at best - does he fit the bill?}

1.) 31 Dec 2015 12:21:36
Ideally, someone who is more technical than Can and doesn't give the ball away.

He's young, but surely there are players available who can create more from a deeper position.

The lad has a great future, but still needs nurturing and I suspect he will step up next season.

2.) 31 Dec 2015 13:23:23
If we where to get rid of Lucas and Allen then I'd expect a quality midfielder to come in. Whether that's grujic (not sold on him at all at the moment) or another that is proven quality, like a wanyama for example, I don't know. But I don't see it happening in January.

{Ed002's Note - Liverpool has no interest in Wanyama.

3.) 31 Dec 2015 16:06:26
Can is improving IMO.

4.) 31 Dec 2015 17:05:39
Who is better than can, 21, and attainable? Not many in my eyes.

{Ed001's Note - if people think Wanyama is proven quality, then you are fighting a losing battle! Can is already a better player than him. Wanyama can't pass.}

5.) 31 Dec 2015 19:42:28
Wanyama is average at best and as slow as a slug. If people want him so much, they can start their own club and buy him.

6.) 01 Jan 2016 16:53:16
Can is improving but not good enough yet.

Dodgy at times.

Any surprises in the tour party to the US?
I haven't seen the squad we are taking yet.
Which youngsters are going?

kopitetrevor

1.) 20 Jul 2016 19:07:01
The reason you haven't seen the squad is because it hasn't been announced yet.

Slightly worried about tonight's referee, apparently he has awarded 76 yellow cards and 6 reds in his last 10 games, either he can't control a game or he's been been officiating some very physical matches.
It could finish with 16 men on the pitch if he continues issuing cards at this rate.

kopitetrevor

1.) 10 Mar 2016 15:38:43
the last thing Liverpool vs utd needs is a card happy ref, kt he sounds like one of these refs who takes every infringement seriously no matter what and feels every offence is worthy of a card, I do hope if he is dishing out red ones its to the team playing in white.

Don't understand why Allen is on the bench this evening yet Can, Henderson and Milner are starting, before he had his knock Allen played his best few games for a long time.
Can, Henderson and Milner have played 3 games in a week now, with them 3 there is a lack of creativity, Allen would add some creativity, I feel Origi will be feeding off scraps this evening. hope I'm wrong.

1.) 02 Mar 2016 19:51:02
I reckon you'll be right. can hendo and milner together add the same qualities. there is not craft or guile which we need to connect the mids to our attacking 3.

2.) 02 Mar 2016 21:03:51
im glad milner has proved you wrong it was an excellent goal, but i think the reason they are playing is because they have the fitness levels to play 3 games in a week, that's what i think if they are fit enough then don't change them there will be time for them to have a rest soon enough.

3.) 02 Mar 2016 21:18:13
I stand corrected, Milners best game in a red shirt?

4.) 02 Mar 2016 21:23:06
Lol. Milner and lallana have a goal and an assist each. Great to see sterling inaffective and benched as well :)

I have a conspiracy theory.
When premiership teams like Liverpool, the mancs etc play a first leg away in Europe against inferior opposition would they contemplate not winning by 2 or 3 goals for fear of playing in front of a half empty stadium during the 2nd leg.
I've often felt players do not put in a full shift in such games and occasionally wondered if teams are under instruction not to finish off the tie in the first leg.
Both Liverpool and the mancs will be assured a full house for the return leg now.

1.) 19 Feb 2016 09:09:15
Ye sure, this is why we didn't score yesterday.

2.) 19 Feb 2016 09:11:31
Absolutely no chance.

3.) 19 Feb 2016 09:13:17
Disagree. We have a cup final on Sunday and the last thing we want is another 120 mts at Anfield and more. Should have dispatched the game yesterday giving the senior players some rest in the second leg and games for the youngsters.
Now we have two crucial games in the span of 48 hours.

{Ed001's Note - we were never going to 'dispatch' the game yesterday.}

4.) 19 Feb 2016 10:07:46
With our defense at times this season even if we had won 3/ 4-0 if we conceded an early goal at anfield it would still be nervous!

5.) 19 Feb 2016 11:03:53
I think and hope Trevor is getting into the spirit of banter and joking about his theory, he's not daft 😄.
Old Trafford and Anfield would not be half empty at all and he knows it. 😉.

Klopp got it spot on with selection this evening in my opinion.
We have played so many games this season with a small squad causing injuries.
If we had played senior players tonight on a dreadful looking pitch the likelihood would be further injuries.
By playing the youngsters we have given the senior players more recovery time before 2 big league games, we are still in the competition and I expect a young team to finish the job off on a decent playing surface at anfield. Can you imagine the uproar if he had brought lallana or Lucas on during the last half hour and either of them had suffered muscle injuries.
With regards to the players today, really hard to judge on a poor surface so it's hard to judge the flair players like tex, however I will say he hasn't impressed me as much as I'd hoped when he's played for the senior team so far, maybe a bit unfair when he's had a static forward line to create for.

I would have preferred to see more of ojo than Kent but other than that liked the team selection. The most I can take from that performance is that bogdan stays well clear of the first team.

Surely the club would take it upon themselves from now on to test players weekly as the consequences are huge. Imagine qualifying for the champions league only to find a 2nd player fails a test.
I heard a representative of one of the official drug testing bodies a couple of days ago say that a test could be done by the club for a cost of only £30 per person, surely worth it.

Too lazy, we've had our fair share of lazy strikers over the past couple of seasons.

Whilst Bruce was wrong to criticize on national radio, to suggest he is not a legend of the club is rediculous.
He won the league championship on numerous occasions, European cup, fa cup and league cup.
Regarding the allegations thrown at him I had the privelage some years ago of playing football alongside one of my heroes from that era, when I asked about BG and the rumours he told me that whilst he was eccentric he took his job very serious, was a winner and explained " if Brucie was throwing games for us and we still won everything, just how good were we".
Neither he or any of his former teammates he had discussions with thought that BG was anything other than fully committed to LFC.

I agree, SG shouldn't come back right now he will still have too much influence on the team.
Let JK rebuild then in a few years when SG has retired from playing if he wants to return then we can offer him some kind of role .

kopitetrevor

{Ed002's Note - Quite frankly, if he returns to England and gets registered as a player I would expect at least one FA charge to follow given the discussions of several weeks ago and the stupidity of some of the content of his book.

The club will be aware of this.}

I'm not trying to make klopp look bad but we have to be realistic.we can not spend as much on wages and players as the mancs, Chelsea, arsenal or city and sadly the best players will demand the most money. we along with perhaps spurs are the next couple of teams with spending power so if you are judging it like that we will likely finish 5th/6th most seasons. Rodgers got us to 2nd last year, I don't think Klopp will improve us enough to finish 2nd with the current budget we have.
Our transfer policy is buy young so we can sell at a profit, I don't think klopp has worked with this policy before.

Overrated, scores some wonderful goals but he's lazy and certainly not a player klopp would want up front, he couldn't press a pair of trousers.

Great performance, thought Fermino, Lovren, Milner and Can stood out.
Also thought Clyne had one of his best games for us and Lallana was excellent too. the difference in our movement up front when lallana and formino play is incredible.

Bruce for me.
Playing behind Hansen and Lawrenson, both centre backs were excellent, lawrenson with pace and Hansen with composure and his ability to read the game. their weakness (if any) was in the air. Bruce used to command his area like no other keeper, yes he was prone to an error but compare that to his dominance in the box allowing his defense to play a high line is much underrated.

I agree with you Benny totally.
This is not a Liverpool issue it's a premier league issue, if we want to compete in anyway unfortunately we will only end up having to pay more.
I remember paying £1.50 every week as a young teenager queuing up alongside the kop wall sandwiched in by the horses.
Unfortunately those days are long gone, I hate the way it costs me almost £100 to take me and my lad to my club, but I also understand I can't complain too much because I want us to do so well, because I want us to do well I know we have to pay stupid wages to players, rediculous fees to agents and large transfer fees for half decent players . I also know if we don't do this we will become a mid table team each season (not too far away) and we will complain some more. We can't compete with the mancs match day revenue, the billionaire owners at city and Chelsea so I will pay the extra few quid I can't afford to support my team, for those that can't or don't want to just please don't walk out on Liverpool ever. stay in the ground longer if you must but don't leave early.

kopitetrevor

{Ed001's Note - but we don't need higher ticket prices to compete, we need better work on transfers.}
